Chara-Ani has launched a brand new countdown website for the Langrisser series, teasing an upcoming reveal 15 days from now.
For anyone unfamiliar with the name, Langrisser is a tactical role-playing series developed by Masaya Games, which first appeared on the Mega Drive in 1991. Several releases have appeared since then, mostly on Mega Drive and Sega Saturn in the '90s, although Nintendo fans did get a taste of the action in 2015 when Langrisser Re:Incarnation Tensei arrived on Nintendo 3DS.
The new site suggests that something new will be shared on 23rd August, and if this accompanying trailer below is anything to go by, it certainly looks like we're about to get a brand new game. As you can see, the video cycles through games in the series, clearly hinting that 2018 is set to be the year for a new star. Famitsu has reportedly listed this new, mysterious title under "consoles", hopefully giving some weight to a possible release on Switch.
A mobile game has also very recently been released across Asia, with rumours suggesting a western version could well be on the cards soon, although this new announcement doesn't seem to be linked to the smartphone title. All signs here are pointing towards something new, so we'll have to keep an eye out when that fateful date comes around.
Have you played any games in the Langrisser series? Would you like to see a brand new entry arrive on Switch? Tell us below.

Admittedly I've never heard of this one, but all I can think of at the moment is all the long dead JRPG's I love that could come back like a zombie to walk amongst the Switch games.
I'm always up for some tactical RPG action. I'll keep a look out if there's a version Switch-bound.
Never heard about this series. Still if it gets announced it could be a nice addition to the switch library
I was utterly addicted to Warsong on the Genesis. First time ever experienced perma-death. Hope this is a reboot. For me that game was a fore runner to Fire Emblem.
The 2015 3DS download got a 3/10 from NintendoLife... I think I'll pass.
The battle animations from the 3ds version were god-awful. This series needs a major overhaul if I'm going to consider it for the switch
I've heard of the series couple of times before and it looks interesting. I really like strategy games. Not a long wait to see more of the game. I can decide then if it's something I want to play.
Just tried out Valkyria Chronicles demo today as well. That's another series I've known of for some time but never tried it out since they haven't been on a consoles I own. Great game so far. I'm excited to play the full game.
@GrailUK I don't know about forerunner since Fire Emblem came out first on NES a year earlier but they certainly took some inspiration from Famicom Wars and Fire Emblem.
I am highly disturbed by depiction of the person on the left. Is it a severely underage girl with all but her nipples covered? Either I am becoming old or Japanese media/games move in a direction that is more and more.
@Late Warsong beat Fire Emblem to the West by a considerable margin. So ye, fore runner this side of the globe easy
@GrailUK If we are talking about America, then yes. I think Europe got Fire Emblem for GBA before any Langrisser games. I could be wrong, though. Either way, it doesn't really matter all that much. I'm sure both series were inspired by each other in some way or another.
It could be an omnibus of all the games to date.
@Late Well, I imported Warsong O.< (I did say 'for me' in my original post lol).
@GrailUK Nice. I wish I were aware of the game back when I was little. Also, apparently missed the whole "for me" part.
@Late Hehe, it's ok. I appreciate FE came first (But my Japanese to this day is nowhere near good enough to play it lol!)
Didn't the 3DS outing not fare too well? I mean especially when compared to Fire Emblem, I think that one at least, paled in comparison. If memory serves me well didn't it have really stupid chibi-style fight scenes? If they get rid of that crap I think I'd be on board.
I wonder if what they're teasing is perhaps the older games along with a new one.... That'd be cool! I think the Sega days of Langrisser were much kinder!
Somehow this reminded me of Growlanser; now, there's an idea for a game on Switch.
Please let it be like Record of Grancrest War on PS4 and not another 2D pixelated crap fest.
This is what I call a good news.
The last Langrisser game for 3DS was garbage so I'm not hype for this series but hopefully it could surprise me.
@finalstan it should. The same artist/character designer moved onto Growlanser. Good catch noticing the similarities.
I played Warsong and a bit of the Saturn games, mostly part four with a translation. I really enjoyed the games and their beautiful presentation. I know the recent revival wasn't well received. I hope this, whatever it is, turns out better if it's new. If it's a compilation, I hope to see it translated.
@sdelfin I had no idea. I had to look at my Vita's download list to check the name of the game it reminded me off, played it years ago and remember loving it. Wayfarer of Time, awesome game.
The companie need do something like the series was in the snes. The 3ds version is not exactly a appreciated title.
@Hrimfaksi same here. It made me cringe that this sort of thing is at all publicly acceptable.
