@PuzzleMaster7 I've already escaped Mr. Nooks Wonga style grasp twice in my life time, no more I say! That fool Tortimer may be mayor but I will run this town and Nook would be wise to look out for 'accidents'.
I'm excited to see this sort of game on the Switch. I'd be interested to hear reports on how well this controls with the Joy-Cons. I already have this on my laptop so no need of it on the Switch but hopefully it will pave the way for further similar game releases.
Its a good selection and was easily the most impressive part of the Online part of the Direct. It's good to see such a variety that there is something for owners of the Classic NES to get excited about. The steady trickle of new games looks to keep things fresh as well.
It was to be expected but there are still very few details about the service and it launches next week. I wasn't expecting the direct to have a detailed blow of all the T&Cs but it just rehashed the broad headlines we already knew about. I've just been on the Nintendo UK website and there is nothing obvious to click on or no menu that takes you to a page with further details, I had to manually search for it.
I do think for £18 a year it is good value and the new NES titles look good. It's just disappointing to see this close to launch and we there are still areas of confusion.
Sad the first comment is about the Switch in a thread for a 3DS game, hope the bold indicates it was tongue in cheek.
Really looking forward to this as I never got a chance to play the original. I like that Nintendo are putting a lot of care into their ports and the addition of Bowser Jr.'s journey makes the package even more appealing. Shame about the delay for Europe I'm so used to universal (within a couple of days) release dates these days.
Seems odd this keeps happening games are now repeatedly coming out physically in the east and not it the west. It's not a title I'm interested in but I do feel sorry for all those who were excited only to be dashed hours later, I had the same reaction with Okami HD (luckily could get that physically on other platforms). Is the cost of publishing physically in the west really that much higher than in the east that it destroys the business case for many games?
@Bunkerneath Totally agree with you there. I love the dock design, I will get one day one if they release it separately. The joy cons however are plain and lazy (much like the Smash Pro).
It was a bit of a miss for me but that is partly due to the fact that all of the third party elements had been already announced. I do feel for Nintendo on this, they were right to hold the Direct and I fully respect them for doing so.
My main issue was all of the first party announcements bar one were platformers. Luigi's Mansion, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, Yoshi's Crafted World and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe all look to be great games but if like me you don't enjoy platformers getting 4 announced for next year means not a lot to look forward to first party wise on the horizon after Smash.
While it is a big announcement having played through Animal Crossing on the GameCube and Wii I have no desire to play Tom Nook's indentured servitude simulator in HD.
However it was great to see such good third party support for Nintendo. Particularly Civ VI and Cities Skyline would have made this direct shine but for the fact we already knew about them. Not Nintendo's fault at all but it is unfortunate that third parties couldn't wait for the delayed direct.
The online section was exactly what was expected just a rehash of the announcements already made. None of the details that people need to make an informed choice on the service. The selection of NES games did however look excellent and great to see some that us Classic owners don't already have.
Well that is a blast from the past was given one of these as a hand me down by my cousin in the mid 90s. I had no idea it was meant to be a bottling plant I always thought it was a cake factory with more candles being added to the cake before it was packaged up. A great little game it was so satisfying when you got into a good groove and had the brothers working in harmony.
These look amazing, particularly the MD Mk.I but at 16GB these are too small to even be useful in my phone. Shame as if they came in larger sizes I'd pick one up.
When the first rumours of Metroid Prime Trilogy HD for Switch surfaced it was easy to ignore them. Now however they have gained more and more traction they are becoming increasingly hard to write off. Of course I do know that this now means I will likely be disappointed tonight.
@ShadJV Agree with you on Phoenix Wright can't see any reason why he couldn't work considering some of the other characters that have been adapted for the series. I can see him having quite a reasonable move set and plenty of chances for some fun nods.
One I wish for but I really can't see working is Prof. Layton. His move set would be severely limited to 'out thinking' the opponent. His final smash however could be a puzzle that if you fail Layton takes the beating instead of the opponent, which would be a interesting way to mix things up.
Otherwise with Nintendo's working relationship with Ubisoft a rabbid would work pretty well as a fighter. They could be in their Mario guises for different players. Maybe make their attacks a bit unpredictable in execution like they are to add something different.
I take it as it's alongside the Online service it's 18th in NA but 19th over here in Euroland? Not that a day makes much of a difference.
I'm intrigued by the more controller icons rumour I thought the Switch had enough control options already! Does this mean we will see a NES/SNES adapter in the same fashion as the GameCube adapter to play the online classics with original controllers? Or even the Classic controllers with the Wii connectors? I can't see a huge market for such a setup as if you want to be that authentic you are likely going to play on original hardware. Others are simply going to stick to the Joy-Cons/Pro so it's an odd one.
Hopefully NoE can confirm the price of this in Europe sometime soon. The Korean price equates to about £71 and the Japanese price is about £68. Considering Joy-Cons on there own are £70 you are essentially getting a free game if we see similar pricing over here. I wasn't planning on picking up SMP but with such keen pricing and a family holiday later in the year this bundle could be just the ticket. Anyway good to see another region getting the bundle, surely NA can't be far behind in confirming it.
Nice the to see a proper limited edition item and not just a package. Shame the controller is quite so dull though seems oddly understated for Smash Bros.
This is what made Rare so great back in the day. They knew how broken Oddjob was balance wise but rather then take him away they allowed players to make there own choices instead of dictating to them. This freedom to play was what allowed a culture to grow around the companies games. We used to play the no Oddjob rule but it was hilarious when we went for a Oddjob allowed match and whoever could scroll the fastest was essentially the winner before a shot was even fired.
Well this is either interesting and something that may mean I end up buying Mario Party or pointless and unsurprisingly price is the deciding factor. Joy-con pairs are a little too pricey to feel good value but throw in a game for £20 or so extra and the bundle would start to make sense. Over this though and I can't see it wooing many over. I do like the fact its the Splatoon joy-cons. People will already have the red/blue so this adds two new colours to peoples setup. Different colour per player ala N64. Can see how it's incongruous to the Mario theme though.
Local multiplayer, interesting gameplay mechanic and colourful calaca style aesthetic make this a hit for me. £20 does seem a lot for the base game as is though, $20 seems closer to the mark. I may wait to see if there is a discount or if they add a few more maps.
@oji I'm with you on this. I understand why they are the size they are but they are far to small for comfortable gaming. The buttons are bad enough to so a d-pad would be even worse (thinking of the old Gamecube d-pad here). Luckily the pro controller exists.
This is an interesting device but it seems too limited to be a true answer for the problem it is trying to solve.
I'm not sure how fun it would be to control an RCT game without a mouse to control the placement of items. The touch screen in handheld could work but the screen seems a little too small to give a good overview. Still as this is modern Zomtari RCT I'll not be rushing out to get it unless they somehow manage to actually pull out a decent product.
@Anti-Matter whilst I agree with you on most of the games in the direct being dark what about Morphies Law? It's the most colourful game I've seen all year, and also a 3D indie.
First thing I have seen in this game I'm not a fan of. I was hoping they would keep it locked to the original 151. I'm not a big fan of all the extra mechanics like breeding, happiness and mega evolutions they brought in that needlessly complicate the collecting and evolving of Pokémon. Adding these extra evolutions may be only a small addition but it goes against the back to basics vibe the game had.
Was excited until I saw it was a Nindies only Direct. Not that I dislike them and they definitely need showcasing but was hoping this was going to be a wider ranging direct which included the new online service as well as details for a few games that have gone quite, as well as the Nindies.
@Blizzia I've had problems with pretty much every online store with regards to pre-orders at one time or another. Currently my Smash order sits with Nintendo themselves.
@HobbitGamer and @thesilverbrick thanks both for clearing that up for me makes sense now. They look pretty cool so I'm looking forward to trying them out.
I never played Smash 4 so can someone explain to me what these assist trophies are please? They seem to be some sort of half way house between an item and a fighter. Movement in the trailer looked very natural so do you control them or is it pure AI? If you control them what happens to your fighter in the meantime?
So pleased to see the N64 stages back and in their original forms. I know they probably aren't the most balanced or innovative or even good stages but they are what I cut my Smash teeth on back in the day.
I'm very impressed by the new stage morphing element should make for some interesting decisions and reactions at key moments. They seem to have pulled off the morph in a very smooth way where if it catches you out it's down to your skill not a cheap trick by the game.
@Indielink more than likely will do but this just opens up the possibility of cancelling one for another and not getting either! I've been stung by such issues before so I'm weary. It's just frustrating that Nintendo couldn't get their act together to sort this out before opening pre-orders.
Nice pair of echoes here, neither big enough for a full fighter but a nice option for fans of their respective series. I like there are subtle changes like the floaty nature of Dark Samus that reflects the differences and adds some variety. Just the sort of thing that added together will make Smash Ultimate fantastic.
I never played Smash 4 can someone in the know tell me if the echoes from that got amiibo or just the regular fighters? I'd love a Dark Samus amiibo but don't want to get my hopes up if it's not in the offing.
Nice of Nintendo to announce this when I ordered this exact package as separate pieces when pre-orders opened a while back. Hopefully they will upgrade such orders to the Limited edition otherwise it smacks of punishing those who were excited about the game early.
Not quite sure I get why this is news? Well done to the chap, it's always nice to complete a long term project but surely hundreds (if not thousands) of people have done this with their respective favourite franchises. It's a nice little personal triumph and a great little brag down the pub but on an international news site like NL it smacks of 'Cat Stuck in Tree in Parsons Green'.
The footage here looks very good, impressed how they have gotten the different movement types looking natural, it bodes well for the rest of the Pokedex. I feel sorry for poor old Electrode constantly rolling onto his face must leave him with a mouth full of dirt! Venusaur looks a little on the small side though but that could be my memory playing tricks on me.
@HobbitGamer I agree with you on the negativity it really was starting to wear thin but it does seem to have abated somewhat recently thankfully. It was getting to the point it seemed to be a crime to * shock horror * be excited for these games. The comments on this article seem to be mostly a lively debate about the merits (good and bad) of the content of the article not just bashing the game ignoring the article.
In British English at least previous words such as Loch Ness has established that the soft 's' sound requires the double s following the ne. It would be interesting to see if there is a difference in American English with more people using the soft 's' for the NES. Still every one I know goes for either hard 's' NES (not as hard as the 'z' sound others have been commenting on here) or as separate letters.
Team this up with the Sonic curry and you can have a Sega based meal. I seem to remember there was a Sonic cereal back in the day so add that plus carry your lunch in a Sega lunch box (think mine is still floating about up in the loft) and you can have a day of Sega sustenance!
@boatie I didn't say there was a benefit to the creator. I said by doing that I'm not committing crime. If someone wants to commit crime that's their choice but don't try and justify it when there is no justification.
I never understand how people think it is justified to defend criminal activity just because they seem to have some delusion they have a right to something that isn't theirs. There are plenty of things in this world I want some I can afford some I can't I don't believe it's my right to have everything I want.
Saying a game isn't available is utter bull as well. If I want a copy of Mr Classic Goes to Loopy Land on the NES then I can purchase both a NES and Mr Classic Goes to Loopy Land perfectly freely and legally second hand. Now if that happens to be more expensive then I can afford that does not give me carte blanche to commit crime.
Well it's a long time since I've seen an article about cheat codes. Nice to see someone still giving them some love. I remember back in the day if really stuck in a game sometimes a cheat would be a life saver (before you judge I was only a kid). Even better were cheat codes you had to unlock by being really good that would then do goofy stuff that allowed you to just fool about in the game.
Really hope this means we could be seeing a deBlob 3 sometime soon. The first two were some of my favourite games on the Wii and I remember having a blast with them. I don't really replay games so I'm not going to double dip on these unless there is a significant amount of new content.
Do you have to put money down for pre-orders in Germany? If so then I can see the logic behind this ruling. It stops companies either holding your money ransom or it disappearing if everything goes south. Many countries have rules about clear timescales for the fulfilment of paid goods and services which can then be used as actionable in small claims court and the like.
However every pre-order I have ever done (online and instore, in the UK) is essentially just putting your name on a list. It means you get regular updates and if you either loose interest, the item never comes out or the company folds you have lost nothing. I could see regulating against this type of pre-order as heavy handed.
Metroid is my all time favourite game series and a movie based on it has the potential to be amazing, after all a lot of it's inspiration is from a movie itself. There are a lot of hurdles though one is the muteness of Samus as the director in the article alludes too. We have a talking Samus and we all know how badly that went, short intro and outro monologues only please. The Metroid universe does lend itself to something cinematic and the director here seems to know more about Metroid than Sakamoto does making a movie!

Re: Multiple Cheat Codes For Sonic Mania Have Been Discovered
Well it's a long time since I've seen an article about cheat codes. Nice to see someone still giving them some love. I remember back in the day if really stuck in a game sometimes a cheat would be a life saver (before you judge I was only a kid). Even better were cheat codes you had to unlock by being really good that would then do goofy stuff that allowed you to just fool about in the game.
Re: de Blob 2 Due Out 28th August On Switch According To Nintendo Website Listing
Really hope this means we could be seeing a deBlob 3 sometime soon. The first two were some of my favourite games on the Wii and I remember having a blast with them. I don't really replay games so I'm not going to double dip on these unless there is a significant amount of new content.
Re: Head of Sonic Team Has Some Surprise Announcements To Share At This Year's Comic-Con
Is it too much to dream for a return of Sonic the Comic?!?
Re: Germany Bans Retailers From Listing Video Game Pre-Orders With Vague Release Dates
Re: Metal Gear Movie Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts Wants To Make A "Crazy" Metroid Movie
