Re: Random: Sakurai Breaks Down The Differences Between Famicom And NES Music

All the NES Castlevania games sound excellent, but I do think the FM version of Castlevania III has a much larger punch; which in turn immerses the player better (because the action is very methodical and punchy). The Famicom Simon’s Quest’s version of Bloody Tears is underwhelming; so in both cases, the FM channel adds a lot of depth to the NES wave generated channels

@MeloMan I have personally really been enjoying everything EGG Console in Switch so far (except Level 7 of Xanadu 😡), and Japanese only YS III wasn’t going to stop me.

I recommend a translation app like Google Lens or Cam Translator (you do have to subscribe, but you can just cancel after finishing the game). You just take a picture of the screen and it usually translates it very well.

@Kirgo You could so much better with a circular / radial menu, which is what I thought the new Zeldas would have benefited from. Though there would have to be a way to change radial menus on the fly, given all the things Link can pickup.

Scroll wheels are not that accurate in my experience.

Even a tiered scroll menu, ala, Metal Gear Solid would have worked better.

You don’t nee a physical wheel in either case

Re: What Is EGGCONSOLE? - Full Game List, PC-88, MSX2 On Nintendo Switch, Best Games To Start

@MeloMan Some of the EGG Console games have an English option toggle.

I have REALLY been enjoying Hydlide 3 (aka Super Hydlide). There is an option at the bottom of the menu to toggle English but the resulting Engrish is legendary here (in a really campy way). Hydlide series never took itself too seriously anyways. But the game has awesome CRPG elements in J-ARPG shell: Time-of-day advancement; carry weight limit; Weapon class gating and the need to eat meals every day. Also the music slaps!

I also finally played through most of Legacy of the Wizard finally, but am currently stuck.

I’ve also picked up the excellent Xak and the fun-to-challenge-your-fortitude, Xanadu (use rewind A LOT).

Next up: I have to pick up Wanderers from Ys, as the Genesis version is the game that originally got me into this incredible series. Can’t wait to hear Mieko Ishikawa’s soundtrack through the original PC-088 chip.

Thanks, Alana, for giving these overlooked gems a shoutout.

@Kiyata Originally I was really turned off by the overuse of exposition in tTYD’s dialogue; I wished a lot of the uninteresting characters would just shut up already. I totally understand why Miyamoto-san did not like the direction that particular aspect was taking. Paper Mario 64 has a much brisker pace to everything.

I still own the GameCube original but I never finished it because it wore me down like a bad anime that needs to go into nerdy detail about the stupidest aspects of its lore, just because it is written badly
