They have the time to update this mobile game sooo frequently but cannot even be bothered to add a few new courses to the MK8 Deluxe. I had MK8 on Wii U and have all the DLC so I have had zero reason to buy deluxe. My friend keeps asking me to get it because we played a lot of MK8 together on Wii U but for just battle stages and an extra item box, it's not worth it.
Unfortunately, I have always preferred regular gamepads to these types of controllers as I have never been really comfortable playing fighting games in arcades as I am unable to do combos and all as I would on a home console so this is not for me. What I would really like for smash though, is a gamepad that can allow me combine buttons - specifically the two jump buttons (to short-hop).
@PanurgeJr @konbinilife I never argued that soccer isn't a valid term or that the word didn't originate from the UK. My issue was simply with calling American Football "real football". I don't even look at American Football as some sort of inferior "football". If I ever see an American talking about football, I always just assume they are talking about American Football. But as I said before, it is classless, ignorant, and frankly, insulting to then call it the "real football" when in reality the ball is hardly ever touched by the foot and it isn't even really a "ball" to begin with.
@biglittlejake So you imagine a sport where the ball is held in the hand 99.9% of the time to be the "real" football, right? It's the sort of classless remark that only an ignorant American who thinks America is the world would make
@Joriss it might actually not be the reason but it seems to me that some characters have very good combos that are really hard to block and hard to punish when blocked or moves with very little lag on block and yet their moves/combos deal a lot of damage while some other characters seem slow and have moves that can be easily blocked and punished. And then some of the game mechanics can seem really unfair sometimes.
I believe one of the reasons for taking out MK11 is that the game is very unbalanced - at least that is my major gripe with it. Really good game but the balance is terrible.
What about Mario and sonic at the Olympic games? I haven't played it (other than trying out the demo) but I would've thought it would be a better family game than some of the games mentioned here
@patbacknitro18 Oh really? Didn't know it was eventually ported to other consoles. I can imagine how it might have been difficult to recreate the feeling exactly on other consoles as the Wii U version made use of the Gamepad and it's second screen. The one on Wii U was a wonderful game to me
@Welshland I dunno... it's probably got to do with the unpopularity of the Wii U in general but Zombii U was one of the very best games I played on that console - and I played almost every major game on it. There were lots of really great exclusives on Wii U but Zombii U had one of the greatest impact on me after finishing it. Seems that very few people know about the game or gave it a chance...shame.
@sixrings Why? It doesn't seem to be that good. That was my most anticipated game heading towards the end of the year, but playing that demo made me feel that the games were quite shallow and I would lose interest in it quickly if I bought it.
It kind of annoys me seeing articles like these and I see that they almost always never talk about things which I feel are the most important reasons for any paid online service. First of all, if you are paying for it, it is perfectly reasonable to expect a decent online service! Not the kind of laggy crap you find in even huge AAA console-selling great games like Smash Ultimate. Secondly, the whole point of online gaming is actually engaging with people you meet online. How do you do that when there is no way to actually communicate with people you meet online?? And then to make matters worse, the only thing that seemed like a consolation which is the Online Game Invites, but no Nintendo games support it. But somehow every time you see articles like these or interviews with top Nintendo personalities, you never see them bring up these fundamental issues. To me, it's really annoying.
Why even bother releasing the game without online play? By the time they release the online update, many people who were interested in the game when it was new would have lost interest and many people who bought the games then would've stopped playing or be barely playing the game anymore too. So we can easily end up with very few people online which would not leave a positive impression on people.
@Gamecuber I had heard of Smash but never really played it until I got it for Wii U because my close friend (who had a playstation) was telling me to get it. I had tried the N64 one through an emulator not too long before and didn't like it but that probably had to do with the graphics as much as the gameplay. Anyway I got it for Wii U and we were always playing For Fun Co-op when he was around but even though it could be fun, it seemed too random and so I didn't really get into it that much. Stopped playing it for a long time even. And then like a year later, out of boredom mostly, I started trying it again but then thought to try For Glory which i had been running away from and that's where it clicked. Playing on flat level stages without random things happening or stages attacking you made such a huge difference to me and then I became a REALLY huge fan and have been playing it almost every day since. I only decided to buy a Switch when Smash Ultimate came out and even though I have quite a lot of games and many I haven't even started, Smash is by far my most played game on the Switch. Just a pity that the online (which is how I almost always play) has been quite a let down for me with Ultimate, compared to Smash Wii U anyway.
@Woomy_NNYes CTR is really good but unfortunately, for me anyway, it is badly let down by a few flaws such as terrible online play (it can take forever to find opponents) and lack of split screen online play. Sometimes it seem opponents are cheating online - you can have a really good race and end up finishing 25 - 30secs behind the winner. And I feel like there is a lack of variety as many of the characters have the exact same stats
Absolutely ridiculous that Nintendo released this feature and did not think that a game like Smash Ultimate should have had support for this from the day the feature was released. What's even worse is that NONE of their games support it! I remember there was an update for Smash just days before the System update that brought this feature so I thought it must come with the next Smash update but there's still no support for it in 6.0.
Well the street fighter 30th anniversary was, for me, a big let down. It was already bad enough that one of my favourite street fighter games (Alpha 2) did not have online support, but the whole 30th anniversary has without a doubt the absolute worst online gaming experience of all the games I have played online on switch. I have never played a game that was even nearly smooth or just ok. Every game I played online was terrible! And I have heard it's not very different for other platforms. If you only play locally and got friends around, I'd recommend it though
This achievement is kind of bittersweet for me...on the one hand, it is well deserved because I do think it is the best fighting game ever. I'm a HUGE street fighter fan (since street fighter II all the way to V including all the crossovers) and only started playing Smash in Smash 4 on Wii U but I already prefer Smash now. On the other hand, I feel achieving that record while the game has such terrible online features will make Nintendo feel people complaining are complaining for nothing and not do anything/much to fix the issues with the game.
@Sakisa Yes and no. Gameplay-wise, yes it's probably the best. I really enjoyed Smash 4. I had LOADS of games on Wii U, but it was by far my most played game there, and Smash Ultimate is much better than Smash 4 in all things except one that is extremely important (to me anyway)- playing online!
It's made me quite unhappy with the game. I spent almost all the hundreds upon hundreds of hours I put in Smash 4 playing online and it's the same with Smash Ultimate now. The difference is here most of that time has been spent waiting to find a match to play online. Sometimes spending 30-40mins just to find a match. Just ridiculous! Such a huge install base and it's taking forever to find a match?! And then some really poor gameplay choices like why can't you have local co-op in Battle arenas online?? You can find a nice arena in Battle Arena and once the host leaves, the room is shut down instead of making someone else there the new host. And what is the point of adding, as friends, people you played in the game when there's no way to invite them to a game. They now have Online Game Invites and none of their games support it. Not even Smash which would have benefitted massively from that. They add Online tourneys and then fill it up with bots! I'm sure Mortal Kombat 11 install base on Switch is nowhere near the number of Smash Ultimate players but I find people to play with online quite easily. Splatoon which is another Nintendo IP has very decent online gameplay. Smash Ultimate online gameplay is just terrible!
@Chunkboi79 I played 2 right after 1 because they came together on the Wii U and I can't honestly say I know/remember what the difference between them was (gameplay-wise)...very good games and I thoroughly enjoyed them but as they both have LOADS of action and their stories aren't the easiest to clearly understand, there isn't a whole lot of difference between them.
SFV or even Ultra SFIV would be great now but with talk like that, like they would somehow be doing Switch gamers a favour by releasing any of them, I'm already kind of losing interest
@BarefootBowser Maybe you never played Zombii U then. One of my favourite games on the Wii U and one of my favourite horror games. It used the Gamepad for stuff like that - holding up the Gamepad and moving it around to scan rooms and such.
@RasandeRose you got a down vote from someone and I don't know why. I was just about to type the same thing you said until I read your post. If there was a rating system in the eshop that was open only to people who purchased the game, every one would be able to search that too and some very old games which were highly rated would show up then too. Sometimes we get really great value in some game sales like the $3 for NBA 2k19 the other time which was an absolute steal, but most of the time, especially for all these games that go on sale for $1 or less, most of the time they are not even worth the space on your SD card. There are so many of these games that go for free or $1 on mobiles then they come to switch and then they are suddenly going for 5, 10, even $15! Ridiculous! Sometimes these games are listed as new or even on preorder and they are already on sale. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell that most of them are probably total crap
@xpownz Thanks. I've just checked it out on YouTube and it looks nice. Is it fun though? I do not normally care too much for these types of games (not even Mario Party) but it's nice to have something to play that's fun and will cause a few laughs when other people are around - especially those that don't usually play much games
Is this demo not coming to other regions? I am really interested in this game. Missed out on the one on Wii U because I heard they weren't very creative with it and it quickly got old, but I've recently been thinking of a party game I can get to play with my girlfriend (who is not really into games) and my friends when they come over. I've been considering getting Mario Party but comments about the boards being really short and very few and lack of decent online play coupled with the $60 price on the eshop makes me think I might regret it if I go ahead and buy it. Speaking of Party games, anyone got recommendations?
@MotionMan Exactly what I was about to type! Kyo Kusanagi would have been my No. 1 choice! but there are really SOoo many cool and iconic characters from KOF and SNK generally and Terry is definitely one of them so it's not too bad. Just don't really understand what the point of revealing him and then not showing his moves is about though
These special tournaments they have like every week are very boring to me. In fact, I hardly play the regular online tourneys anymore since I realised most of the 'people' I'm playing against are actually bots. And then reducing it to one stock just sealed it for me. Coupled with the fact that it seems that most people are either playing online tourney or just don't play Smash much anymore and Nintendo hasn't thought it necessary to add Online Game Invites support to Smash yet, so it takes SOoo long before I find people to play against online in quickplay so I am playing Smash less and less nowadays. And it's a real shame for me because much as I loved Smash 4 on my Wii U, Smash Ultimate gameplay is so much better but the online is a joke compared to Smash 4 where I never had any problems finding people to play against online in any of the modes (even co-op) yet Smash Ultimate which has probably sold more than twice what Smash 4 on Wii U and 3DS did combined, I can wait 30mins without finding a match and never find people to play against in Co-op
"If you don't already own a FIFA game on Switch and aren't bothered about having the latest kits and team rosters, just get last year's version on the cheap." Except that as ridiculously priced as FIFA 20 is, FIFA 19 is even more expensive at $60 on the eshop. Like seriously?? I did not get FIFA 19 and would like a FIFA game...no, sorry a proper football game (and Konami is too stupid to take advantage of the I'll feeling everyone has towards EA and their practices and release PES on Switch) so I just might get this
@Tantani I'm not saying they have done anything good. It's just that I believe that as people are all justly condemning them, they should equally be giving it to Konami for not taking advantage of the I'll feeling that everyone has towards EA. They are directly the reason why EA can deliver such subpar nonsense because Switch football fans don't have any reasonable options so EA has no competition
As annoyed as I am about FIFA 20 on Switch, I think I am going to get it for 2 reasons. The first reason is that I didn't get FIFA 19. I really should have when it was on sale for like $15 on the eshop but I wanted to wait for some announcement about FIFA 20 before deciding but by then the price had gone back to $60 and hasn't come anywhere close to $15 again since then. The second reason is Konami. I am not big fan of PES but I would gladly have bought their offering just to spite EA but no, even seeing EA deliver subpar FIFA games on Switch for years now, they have done nothing to take advantage of that so for their short sightedness, I think I can justify giving my money to EA this time
@Carck Can't remember but I used Xbox 360 controllers for fighting games and while I can technically do all moves, in the middle of a tense fight, I frequently end up missing moves or doing something I did not intend to do and it does not take a rocket scientist to tell that the floating D-Pad which can (for example) very easily change a 'forward' input into a 'diagonal up' input is the cause of that. Other highly rated third party controllers with floating D-Pads that I have used also have this problem but this is a problem that is basically non-existent on the PS4 controller (or any PS controller for that matter!).
@YagaMaki There is something that doesn't quite add up about Online Tourney...for me anyway. How is it possible that it is (like you said) almost always lag free and the slots ALWAYS fill up quickly no matter the time of day, yet in Quick Play, it can take ages for me to find opponents?
Very stupid change. Will no longer be playing this. It was already bad enough that in my region, there are only 8 players in Online Tourney as opposed to 64 players in other regions so it only takes 3 matches to win a tournament but now with 1 stock fights, I get no satisfaction even when I win. Nintendo likes to make some really absurd decisions sometimes. Like adding Online Game Invites and having basically no games that support it. I can understand keeping that from 3rd party game developers so the info doesn't leak before it's announced (actually I can't even understand that), but none of their first party games support it either. They just released a major update for Smash. Would it not have been common sense to wait till Online Game Invites was announced and then include it in the Smash update?
What I would really like is a way to invite your Switch friends to play a game with you online through the console. I would really like to have that in Smash Ultimate too.
I got NBA 2K19 when they had that ridiculous sale where it went for $2.99. I like the sport (basketball) very much but haven't really liked or played basketball games in a long while because they don't really give the same feeling I get from watching a game unlike football (soccer) games, which are very much like the real thing. I was pleasantly surprised with 2K19 but it's still not quite there...the terrible controls with annoyingly long delay between performing an action and it being executed just made it very difficult for me to get into it but otherwise I thought it was quite good. If they remove that nonsense in 2k20, I might be interested in that

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 9.0.1 Is Now Live
How about updating your games to actually start making use of the Online Game Invites feature you introduced??
Re: Review: FIFA 20 - A Shamelessly Cynical Attempt To Swindle Switch-Owning Footy Fans
I did not get FIFA 19 and would like a FIFA game...no, sorry a proper football game (and Konami is too stupid to take advantage of the I'll feeling everyone has towards EA and their practices and release PES on Switch) so I just might get this
Re: Metacritic Review-Bombers Strike Again With FIFA 20 On Switch
@Tantani I'm not saying they have done anything good. It's just that I believe that as people are all justly condemning them, they should equally be giving it to Konami for not taking advantage of the I'll feeling that everyone has towards EA. They are directly the reason why EA can deliver such subpar nonsense because Switch football fans don't have any reasonable options so EA has no competition
Re: Metacritic Review-Bombers Strike Again With FIFA 20 On Switch
As annoyed as I am about FIFA 20 on Switch, I think I am going to get it for 2 reasons.
The first reason is that I didn't get FIFA 19. I really should have when it was on sale for like $15 on the eshop but I wanted to wait for some announcement about FIFA 20 before deciding but by then the price had gone back to $60 and hasn't come anywhere close to $15 again since then.
The second reason is Konami. I am not big fan of PES but I would gladly have bought their offering just to spite EA but no, even seeing EA deliver subpar FIFA games on Switch for years now, they have done nothing to take advantage of that so for their short sightedness, I think I can justify giving my money to EA this time
Re: PowerA's Fusion Fightpad For Switch Has Been Inspired By The Sega Saturn Controller
Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate Players Aren't Happy With New Online Tournament Rules
@YagaMaki There is something that doesn't quite add up about Online Tourney...for me anyway. How is it possible that it is (like you said) almost always lag free and the slots ALWAYS fill up quickly no matter the time of day, yet in Quick Play, it can take ages for me to find opponents?
Re: PowerA's Fusion Fightpad For Switch Has Been Inspired By The Sega Saturn Controller
Floating D-Pads? No thanks. I can only imagine how frustrating it would be playing Street Fighter or KOF with that...and for $60 too!
Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate Players Aren't Happy With New Online Tournament Rules
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 9.0 Is On The Way, Will Add SNES Controller Support
What I would really like is a way to invite your Switch friends to play a game with you online through the console. I would really like to have that in Smash Ultimate too.
Re: Rumour: The Next DLC Fighter For Smash Bros. Ultimate Might Be Representing SNK
@JayJ Terry Board the mascot of SNK? King of fighters is their most popular game and Kyo Kusanagi is the main character there...
Re: NBA 2K20 Developer Is Dedicated To A Quality Switch Version
I got NBA 2K19 when they had that ridiculous sale where it went for $2.99. I like the sport (basketball) very much but haven't really liked or played basketball games in a long while because they don't really give the same feeling I get from watching a game unlike football (soccer) games, which are very much like the real thing. I was pleasantly surprised with 2K19 but it's still not quite there...the terrible controls with annoyingly long delay between performing an action and it being executed just made it very difficult for me to get into it but otherwise I thought it was quite good. If they remove that nonsense in 2k20, I might be interested in that
