Re: The Switch Online Mobile App Just Received Another Incredibly Minor Update

Alztru

@Heavyarms55 good features you mentioned. I really only want direct chat (of course the friend list would be necessary for that to be useful so the both of them). I've had my Switch since last December after Smash came out. I was using a Windows Phone then. When I found out I couldn't invite friends to a game in Smash or chat with them on the Switch, I figured all that had been moved to the online app which isn't available on Windows Phone. I recently got an Android phone and thought I had done something wrong when I launched the Online app and it had next to nothing in it. It makes no sense how Nintendo can think this is acceptable. At this point I would even be happy with using preset commonly used phrases like the ones in Smash Ultimate online to invite people to play games on the Switch or the app

Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of June 2019

@shgamer So is Marvel Vs Capcom not a fighting game because they do ridiculous combos all over the place from ground to air and can call in support characters? Or Soul Caliber not a fighting game because you can be knocked off the stage even with full health? Or Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm not a fighting game because they have free (3D) movement? Etc. Smash is definitely a fighting game. Play 1 Vs 1 without items, on an Omega version of a stage (like most pros do) against an opponent at a similar level and tell me it's not very competitive. It's just that Smash is/can be a lot more than your regular fighting game. It can also be a party game.

Re: Check Out The New Features In The Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 4.0 Update

Really not interested in any of these changes. It seems Nintendo sometimes makes it a point to not listen to feedback but instead do whatever they want. How can it be that with all these updates, they haven't implemented a way to invite your friends to play Smash with you. It's ridiculous enough that you can't invite them anytime they are online (that's a general Switch problem) but to not be able to invite your friend to play with you even when you get a notification that he/she is playing Smash too makes absolutely no sense. Of course if you know the person, you can call or send a message with your phone or something, but if you have a friend who you added, say after a previous battle which you enjoyed, there is absolutely no way to invite them to a game!

Re: Review: Fantasy Strike - Taking The Fighting Genre Back To Basics

Alztru

@BionicDodo you must have never played Smash then lol Yeah I know you can jump with the joysticks in Smash but I always disable that so I don't accidentally (waste my) double jump when I did not intend to. Seriously though, it does seem weird for a traditional fighting game to have a jump button, especially if that's the only way to jump. I have a lot of other issues with the game though so regardless it's probably a pass for me.

Re: Review: Fantasy Strike - Taking The Fighting Genre Back To Basics

All these fine words in the review but the gameplay from videos look really bland and stiff, not to mention uninspired - they blatantly stole some moves from SF - that Grave character even has Ryu's 3 hit Shoryuken Super! And the rocky character has Zangief's moves! Fighting games are my favourite genre - got about 4 or 5 of them on Switch now (and about to get MK 11 - dunno why it hasn't been mentioned here but it's on sale for $45 now people!) But I can't see myself getting this

Re: Pre-Orders Open For 8BitDo's "Most Advanced Controller" Ever

Alztru

@Erchitu Really? I have heard some rumours that the issue has been corrected in newer controllers but I have not been able to substantiate that or seen how to tell which ones are the newer controllers so I'm afraid of taking the risk. Besides, a D-Pad that is good enough for Tetris 99 or a platformer might not be good enough for Street Fighter (and I mean for a proper street fighter player that does combos and all that). A D-Pad that's great for Street Fighter is great for anything you need a D-Pad for.

Re: Pre-Orders Open For 8BitDo's "Most Advanced Controller" Ever

Alztru

I am of two minds here. I have the Sn30 Pro controller and it is a really nice controller with some cons. To be fair though, I don't think there is one great Switch controller that works for everything. For my Switch, I use the Wii U pro controller, a JYB pro controller, SN30 pro controller and of course the Joy Cons and they are all good but not one of them is adequate for everything. I did not get the Switch Pro controller because it is too expensive and I have heard loads of people complain about the D-Pad which is unacceptable to me. Wii U Pro controller is near perfect but no gyro so I don't use it with Splatoon 2, and while the D-Pad is very accurate, the position and (I believe) the small size of the D-Pad makes it just a little bit less ideal than I would've liked for fighting games like street fighter. The JYB Pro controller is not ideal for most games except maybe regular adventure games. The D-Pad is quite terrible for fighting games and the joystick is not the best for aiming on games like Fortnite though I think it's ok for Smash Ultimate. The SN30 Pro has a decent D-Pad and while I can pull off my moves in SF or King of Fighters well enough, I sometimes miss them when in the middle of a tense situation. I feel this is mostly due to the smallish size of the controller and also the fact that it is not very ergonomical so I often find myself going back to the Wii U pro controller when I get wrong inputs a few times while playing fighting games. The placing of the joysticks also makes it not ideal for Smash Ultimate or Splatoon 2. The Joy Cons are my favourite for Splatoon 2 (in the absence of a Switch Pro Controller) and it's also mostly ok for Smash but they are less than ideal for any other scenario for me. So...back to the SN30 Pro+ , like I said I am of two (or more) minds. For one, I think with the extension to the bottom of the Controller (to look like basically every other modern controller) it might solve the ergonomical problems I was having with fighting games and so might resolve the issue with wrong inputs. The issues I see here though are that the joysticks are still in the same position and so might probably still be less than ideal for Smash or Splatoon. Also the software and customisation aspects of the controller are all good but I hope the default settings are great and good enough for average users as I am not a big fan of all that tampering with settings and would like a controller that just works from the start

Re: Video: Witness Annihilation In The New Daemon X Machina Story Trailer

Alztru

I don't know if this trailer was meant to create excitement and anticipation for the game or dampen expectations so people don't expect too much from the game. And like someone in the comments here said, it is really annoying when games (or even movies) start having over the top stories that no one (possibly not even the developers) understand. It adds absolutely nothing to the game. If anything, it takes away from the game. I was not very impressed with the demo but it seemed like they were taking note of some of the shortcomings but now I'm not so sure anymore...

Re: UK Charts: Sony's Days Of Play Sale Wipes Nintendo Out Of The Top Ten

Alztru

Well Sony definitely knows how to run a sale, that's why. Soo many of the games on sale for the Switch were extremely terrible games and shovelware, while the sales for many of the more desirable games were small or inadequate...or even non existent . The fact that games like Arms and Mario Tennis are still selling for $40 during their "big sale" is ridiculous. Smash ultimate didn't even get any discount! Compare that to the kind of sales Sony had. What did anyone expect??

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 3.1.0 Introduces Lots Of Fighter Adjustments

Alztru

@HobbitGamer What is the point of absorbing a hit when it knocks you back which is exactly what players with those characters want - to keep you away. And dodging is silly because if you dodge on the spot, you are no closer to them and you will eventually get hit. If you dodge forward you will almost certainly get hit because they can have multiple projectiles on the screen at the same time so if you dodge one, the other will almost certainly get you. You haven't said what to do about charged projectiles that deal ridiculous amounts of damage and can be held for really long. And there is nothing slow about Samus' or Link's Down Smash or Link's Up Smash/Special. Anyways I play against some really good Link and Samus players and still beat them but have to use certain characters or else it's a waste of time

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 3.1.0 Introduces Lots Of Fighter Adjustments

Alztru

I hoped they would do something about Link and Samus (and Dark Samus). All that spamming projectiles and then running to the other end of the stage and doing the same thing is really annoying..all the while being quite powerful so if you do get close and make a mistake, they can inflict heavy damage on you - really annoying. Another thing I wish they'd remove or severely tone down are charged projectiles that can be saved and used whenever there is an opening. I feel that at the least, It should have a timer (and last just a few seconds) and if it is not used then, then you lose the charge. Anyway I'll update and see how it plays later today.

Re: Bug Fables Looks Like The Paper Mario Game We've Been Waiting For

Alztru

I do not like games with turn based fighting so whenever I hear that in a game, I immediately switch off. It's why I never got into Final Fantasy series or even Mario + Rabbids though it seems to have really good reviews and on a huge sale at the moment. That being said, Paper Mario TTYD is the only game with turn based fighting that I really liked. Thoroughly enjoyed that game so if this is similar (but yet unique), I might look out for it.

Re: Fire Piranha Plant Joins The Mario Tennis Aces Roster In June

Alztru

In my opinion, at this point in time, this game should be about $20...It's nice enough to play but like Tetris 99, not exactly worth paying a lot of money for. And the price tag just means that so many people who would've given this a go will not, and so there aren't many people online which (mostly) defeats the whole point of the added characters. I tried out the demo which came out recently and the length of time it took to find people to play online made it clear to me that i would regret it if I bought it for $60. A common sense thing to do would've been to at least have a huge sale right after that demo to get a lot of people to pick it up but Nintendo often has other ideas.
