Update #2 [Thu 23rd Jul, 2020 13:20 BST]: The much-anticipated online multiplayer update for GRID Autosport releases next Thursday, July 30th. This update also brings with it support for Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 03: Vehicle Kit, the HORI Pro Deluxe wheel and the HORI Pro Mini wheel.
Update #1 [Mon 16th Dec, 2019 09:30 GMT]: Just as a quick reminder, the first part of this promised multiplayer update is now live! Make sure to jump back into the game to enjoy split-screen and local wireless. More details below.

Also, a press release sent out today has revealed that next year's update will also add Nintendo Labo wheel support.
Original Article [Tue 10th Dec, 2019 13:30 GMT]: Two important updates are on the way for fans of GRID Autosport on Nintendo Switch, bringing some very welcome multiplayer-focused additions.
The first, arriving at the start of next week, is set to introduce two-player split-screen and local wireless multiplayer for up to eight players. The second update, adding online multiplayer, will arrive next year.
16th December 2019:
- 2 player split-screen
- Local wireless multiplayer for up to 8 players
2020:
- Online multiplayer
When we reviewed the game back in September, the lack of multiplayer was one of the very few faults we found with it. With these updates now firmly on the way, it's even easier for us to recommend the game to any fans of realistic racers.
Have you played GRID Autosport? Will you be tempted to revisit the game when the multiplayer updates hit? Tell us below.

I haven't played it yet but I'm certainly more tempted now.
Physical, please.
@NightBeast Yep, that's all I'm waiting for. Wallet trigger is cocked and ready.
They better hurry up with the online multiplayer, I’m starting to regret my purchase!
Great game - can't wait for online
That's fantastic. Now just add a physical version, and we can call this a complete package.
Sweet... I do like this game, unfortunately it came out around the same time as DQXI but I can't wait to get back into it.
Ha ha, much like WiltonRoots above, I added this to my collection as soon as it came out, but have been playing DQXI solidly for weeks.
About time! But the physical version should be on the way too.
@Bengals76 same here. I already stopped playing it. Of course they also have my money already.
The best racing simulator for a console is a digital-only release?!
That's unheard of.
Where is wireless play?
@sixrings down in the article, it says, "local wireless multiplayer for up to 8 players".
Why even bother releasing the game without online play? By the time they release the online update, many people who were interested in the game when it was new would have lost interest and many people who bought the games then would've stopped playing or be barely playing the game anymore too. So we can easily end up with very few people online which would not leave a positive impression on people.
Now I just wish for Dirt and F1. This has easily become a must have. Thank you codemasters.
@Woomy_NNYes yes. I jumped to conclusions. Maybe I should read to achieve.
@sixrings i did that just yesterday myself. We're so reckless.
@Woomy_NNYes I come to rant and rave not to read details
@Kalmaro I'd highly recommend it. If you want a proper racer like GT or non horizon Forza games, or indeed any of the other Codemasters games this is the only game on Switch that can scratch that itch!
I couldn't find the car list for this game. Is it the exact same as the 2014 game?
@elpardo1984 I may have to check it out then. I remember playing forza horizon though and I was pretty horrid, haha
Physical release or no sale
Physical and digital. Whatever. They are both fine. Stop moaning about it.
If anyone is wondering, the new Mario Kart Wheel Deluxe from Hori (reviewed on here a couple days ago) works perfectly with this game, including Analog pedals.
Physical release would be awesome.
Local wireless multiplayer, awesome! Now give us a physical version and I buy the game twice
Great stuff. Would be nice to see talented developers supported by the fan base now.
Splitscreen is always nice to see, especially in this day and age
Nice racer. Shows a bit the age - but nothing better on Switch.
Playing online games when on the GO is usually awful for me. GoBus, Hotels, Acela, Airports... it is a mess. And if home, not using a Switch for split screen play.
So never saw not having them at launch as a negative. Solid handheld racer for car fans.
Awesome news! Still have yet to get this, probably a January purchase. Glad they're coming through with the updates!
Digital is better for games like this because it means you can take a break from Dragon Quest and hop into a race without going through the rigmarole of changing the cartridge.
I learned that lesson the hard way with Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. I've played that like twice since I bought it.
Brilliant game and glad for once solo players were put first. Excellent game
Ahh, will pick this up soon then.
Loving this game. More updates is great news.
Been fine playing this solo, but looking forward to the online multiplayer. Hope it will be close to the other versions as it has a lot of cool features (garage with upgrades and customization), weekly challenges and lobby options. Lobbies should maybe be a bit simplified depending on the size of the userbase. But we here on NL should be able to have some good races. Will make a forum thread for it when it releases!
@Kalmaro yeah it wasn’t great I had an XB1 for a day and this was the only thing i played and hated it!
GRID is perfect for playing when you finish a game but don’t want to dive in to the next story driven game. I’m clearing down my backlog ahead of Christmas so it’s getting a lot of time at the moment as I finish off other titles.
Cool, Ill re-install it next year then
Someone update me on what the multiplayer is like tomorrow. I'm not buying anything without some great reviews
hoping for a discount on this title in christmas sale.
people moaning about physical copy i would like one but like a lot of games cant see it happening and most of the blame lies at nintendos feet, smaller companys and games that might not sell well, why would companys take the chance on a release with the over priced carts that would just increase cost, terrible business choice.
I'm more moaning for Dirt and F1. Especially F1
I could not wait any longer for physical release so I bought it digital in Oct to support the great development team and Feral Interactive for porting this so superbly! Now considering the same with Alien. Great that multiplayer is coming now, hopefully it runs smooth as well, will give it a try later today!
As a next step it would be great to release some modern car pack DLC as the car models are also going back to something like 2008...
@PiXeLSteF I was wondering about the car list and had asked but no one responded. That's disappointing. No Ferrari, Porsche, lambo?
The mention of Labo support alone has me interested, haha
@sixrings it has those brands, only old models.
I think this is still the accurate car list:
link
But I gotta say, it is more important to me how the game plays and runs than having more modern car models.
And it runs like a dream!
Oh and I can confirm Wireless Multiplayer for up to eight local players as I just updated!
Your link isnt working.. but thank god for local wireless... wish the wifi signal was better on the switch but its the best we got. xbox and ps basically abandoned lan play.
@sixrings it does not translate the "&" sign well to the link

I think if you copy the actual link, it works
@PiXeLSteF
I would say Feral has now 'raced' to being the second best (after Panic Button) Switch port team. Grid is awesome and they worked miracles with Alien Iso as well. Can't wait to see what they take on next but my vote is either for ME1-3 or FalloutNV.

2p video
Split-screen was my only hang-up. Still going to hold off a bit to see if there is a physical release, but will eventually pick this up one way or another.
Love this game, having left Xbox behind and the Forza franchise it scratched an itch of mine. Would love to see more racing Sims on the switch
Online multiplayer should have been included at launch. It's the reason I didn't buy this game. By the time it's added it will be too late and nobody will care, lobbies will be dead.
@SuperWeird although I somewhat agree. Let's not be too negative. They at least made an effort.
Now F1
@tapdancingtommy I actually was wondering that. I have Grid and I am loving it, but I could see how a wheel would make it really nice.
Now, if only I could justify the added cost . . .
Thanks for posting, friend.
Playing the game since last week. It's an absolute blast to see those gorgeous graphics and those many modes. With the new update the game ist nearly perfect!
Great game; I'm going to give it a go with the Hori wheel I think!
It's great that they're adding it but I'm not sure how easy it's going to be to find opponents at this stage.
Yes yes yes. I’ve been waiting for online multiplayer and I feared it’d be dropped. And the labo steering wheel is a massive bonus.
Better late then never they say....
@tapdancingtommy the wheel accessory works perfectly? Now I might have to put this on my soon to get list. How good is the range on the local wireless? Will it work with one switch upstairs and the other downstairs?
If not, is it possible to do LAN without internet (similar to Mario kart 8)?
@Alztru That's Gear Club 2 in a nutshell. It took roughly 6 months for online multiplayer to roll out and when it did, hardly anyone talked about it.
@NotoriousWhiz
Yeah the Hori wheel with pedals works great! It sounds like now they’re adding in an official controller scheme for it though so you don’t have to remap buttons and such.
I can’t speak to your other questions though as I only have 1 Switch.
Would loveto play this on switch but i just cant stomach having pay out for the adaptor as extra to play with analogue triggers.
Physical version and then we talk.
^ Ditto.
^^Quit whining about analogue triggers. Gran Turismo gets by without them just fine on the PS1. They are not a necessity.
@gcunit they are for me on this game, it's practically unplayable with the switch controller, complete mess
Pro controller have analog controls? And what exactly does online mean on switch for grid... do we have to buy our first car then make money to uprade to other cars through races? Or simply just race for bragging rights?
Good to see they’ve followed through. Lack of Analogue Triggers is annoying but that’s not the Devs fault, they’re providing workarounds. Still a very solid, well-ported, fun racing game.
Damn I had given up on this. Now to see if I can find anyone online. I think it would be smart of them to have a sale on the game when online launches.
Absolute credit for keeping with the game. Personally this one didn't float my boat much and I ended up spending my time with Rush Rally 3, but they have given it a good go with creating a complete and competent package.
WOW! That took them one hell of a time to add the online component. Very well, better late than never. Time to re-install Grid, havent played it since february
Meh, uninstalled a while back. Playing it because there was nothing else - that does not last long with me.
All my time goes into practicing on F12020 for when I go online races (last F1 races have been great, so more motivation) and daydreaming of Dirt 5.
Codematers Switch support is awful. Release something new already.
@Agramonte really wish coasters had chosen their one game on Switch to have been F1. That's a real shame.
This analog thing is getting annoying. There are hundreds of car video games that simulate analog controls and they work fine.
A lot of comments here, seems everybody loves the game... and just to add to that, I don’t know but there’s already a nintendo-labo like control scheme for this game, a 2-way axis analog gameplay, steering for left joy con, and pedals for right joycon... just like playing nintendo labo, except you use hands for pedals instead of foot. Am I only the one who tried that out?
Control scheme options for this game is just pure beast, gamecube analog is even included...
@Spanish_Bread yes GC analogue on Wavebird is my preferred way to burn it up. Love this game. Anyone up for some online action one evening next week?
@sixrings Yeah, they should just take this engine and make an F1 game.
Maybe they can balance out the difficulty and controls 😊 while they're at it
Standing by to purchase... when its got a real good discount applied. I love supporting crossplatform and I love my port-to-switch library but I will never understand why this game is 5 dollars on apple and android, looks better on both if you have modern hardware, has full controller support on both... yet is 30 dollars on the switch.
o.0
Great news, my son has the Mario hori steering wheel
Wonder if they have included the controls we can do with the IR Sensor (Levers ETC), or if it will only work with motion control (Mario Kart 8)
Cool, I got the Hori wheel and this will be a nice game to use it with.
Has this game ever gone on sale? I want it but not for 45CAD
Good to know, it’s a great game without it but this is a welcome addition...
Is good to have companies who keep working and adding value too games they have already sold for a change instead of keep selling Dlc's.
Played a bit online, unfortunately there are a lot of "crash test dummies wannabes" but when I find a match with people who actually avoid crashing and use the brakes it is pretty awesome.
Thanks to the people at Feral.
@Jester151 Yeah, it was 30% off in June. I believe that was it's first ever sale. Maybe they'll do something for the 1 year anniversary in September.
