He may well be best-known as the voice of Mario (and Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi, mind you) but Charles Martinet has starred in a number of different video games over the years from a variety of genres.
One such game was Shadow of Memories (or Shadow of Destiny, as it's known in North America), a Konami game that was originally released on PS2 back in 2001. He played the role of Homunculus, a mysterious djinn who resurrects the game's protagonist throughout its chapters and prologue.
Martinet retweeted a clip from the game on social media this morning, reflecting on the fact that it released 19 years ago. Take a look:
We wouldn't trust that character as far as we could throw him, so we'd say the voice acting is doing its job perfectly. It's a far cry from the heartwarming scenes shared between the Mario brothers in Luigi's Mansion 3, that's for sure.
What do you think? Would you be able to tell that Homunculus and Mario are one and the same? Tell us below.

Shadow of Memories was a great game. The problem with it was you had to play it through like 6 times or something to get the final ending. But I'm also a sucker for time travel games/films so I was able to endure it.
Didn't realise it was Martinez though. That's pretty cool!
What kind of title is that?
This is a dumb, dumb game.
I have very fond memories of playing Shadow of Memories while growing up. Incredible, bizarre PS2 game.
@LavaTwilight That games story was horrible. The reasons for avoiding death and such were just dumb
@liljmoore @Expa0 each to their own. It was definitely not everyone's cup of coffee!
@LavaTwilight. I mean the games biggest thing is its story since there really isn't any actual gameplay. Problem is the story and reasoning for certain things are just stupid.
If you like it that's great I'm glad you like it.
I like always to remind that Charles Martinet did play in a David Fincher movie.
He plays Michael Douglas's father in the opening credits of THE GAME, and its flashbacks : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lssVpQ-0Xew
Such a great game! Nostalgia trip right there <3
I had this game. I never ended up finishing it though. I remember thinking it was a really unique game at the time.
Is it even possible to buy this game digitally for PC? (I'm pretty sure I played it on PC)
Whoa, didn't know that!
I loved that game, even bought it when I didn't have a PS2 and would play it at a friends house.
wow i wonder what happened next.
I remember Charles Martinet doing a voice one the characters in first Hitman game Hitman: Codename 47.
I had this game on PC back in the day. Had no clue Charles played a role in it though!
Fun thing is that the final boss of Tecmo Secret of the Stars, Homncruse, is a mistranslation of Homonculus.
I am probably one of the few people who played that game far enough to see the late-game lore dump which fits the name (as I would learn after Googling the name after seeing it used in another game, probably a SMT game).
I remember getting this game. I remember the graphics were so amazing. Lol
Had this game for ages. I considered playing it a couple months ago then as usual I played something else instead. I really have to make an effort and give it a chance.
I never knew Charles Martinet's voice was in it though.
He also lends his voice to Runner3, which is playable on Switch.
It's a pity that the psp port never got a European release. Still have the pc version, though.
