Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Smash Bros. Ultimate Challenger 5?

Alpha-2002

Assuming a "start strong, end weak" pattern holds true for 2, here are my picks:

Pre-order bonus: Toad. No one's asking for him and, like PP, there's not much for a set. Would be perfect for a pre-order bonus... after all, it's the surprises which get people talking.

1. Aloy, "Horizon: Zero Dawn." The big, mic-drop-worthy beginning just in time for E3. Sony is one of very few "no-go" companies left... and putting one of their most beloved characters in Nintendo's marquee crossover would leave jaws on the floor. Her gameplay is very similar to Link's with more of a "primal" theme - mixed in with the game's infamously terrifying robots, of course. (Sakurai likes HZD - I think? - so it'd make sense in a roundabout sort of way.)

2. Ryu Hayabasa, "Ninja Gaiden." Same basic formula as Hero - beloved but niche NES legend - but with a HEAVY emphasis on action and combos. His announcement during the Sept. Direct doesn't excite many...

3. ...which is exactly why Nintendo trots out their biggest surprise yet: the Master Chief ("Halo"). Our first FPS rep obviously uses guns, but can also draw upon a Covenant energy sword for melee and the legendary 'Hog for his Final Smash. Cortana could also "analyze" other playable characters as an Easter egg of sorts, serving as a sequel to both Palutena's Guidance and the beloved Codec Calls.

4. Onto 2021 now, so next up is Dante from the "Devil May Cry" series. A cult action-game hero much like Bayo before him, he combines the best/worst of swordies and gunners into one "CRAAAAAAAAZY" package. Nero and/Vergil are his alts.

5. This year's E3 2021 announcement: Doom Guy (take a wild guess). He's another gunner like 117, but now has a "Berserker" bar which activates if damage goes above 100%. It's Sakurai thanking godfathers of the modern shooter id Software for changing the face of gaming as we know it.

And the big, killer finale for what critics and fans hail as one of the best passes ever... after literal MONTHS of anticipation and hype hype HYPE...

6 ...a Gen 8 Pokémon. (Which one? I dunno - you pick.)

And on that note... it's all she wrote.

Re: A New DOOM Eternal Trailer Is Headed Our Way Tomorrow

In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened... one stood.

Burned by the embers of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of Hell and tainted beyond ascension, he chose the path of perpetual torment. *

*In his ravenous hatred he found no peace; and with boiling blood he scoured the Umbral Plains seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him.

He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels, and those that tasted the bite of his sword named him...

THE DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM SLAYER.

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The First Nintendo Direct Of 2020

@MrDisappointed We could even have his buddies as costumes! Look, I made a list:

1. Chief
2. Noble 6
3. Jun
4. Emile
5. Kat
6. Jorge
7. Locke
8. Buck

Arby could be the 2nd rep, with Covenant weapons added to the items list. Stage is Blood Gulch and the FS is a 'Hog, Scorpion, or the activation of Halo itself. Cortana could perform "analyses" of all playable characters, filling the Codec and Palutena's Guidance roles from Brawl and 4... I've thought waaaaay too much about this, haven't I? 🤣

As for more reasonable predictions:

  • New 3D Mario. Gotta have something for the new Switch and BOTW2 needs more time in the oven. Big holiday 2020 release here, primarily competing with Halo and whatever Sony has on tap. (I can't see this new Switch not launching at Xmas.)
  • Bayo 3 date. Astral Chain's out the door, thus leaving the Nintendo division free and clear to bring the Umbran Witch back in style. Summer 2020, big M-rated title of the year. Aside from...
  • A date for DOOM Eternal. Won't be 3/20, so sometime in June. (Bethesda pumped out Youngblood for June, so it makes sense to do it here.) Comes with 1st DLC free, which launches on all platforms by fall.
  • New Sega/Atlus news. SMTV is the hope, but I could see the next Sonic game having at least a tease. Also, brief reminder for P5 Scramble... which hopefully leads to a proper port of the mainline RPG.
  • Indies, indies, indies. Deltarune Ch. 2 is obvious, but expect some surprises here too.
  • More MS Ports. My expectation is Halo, but something like Rare Replay is far more likely. Can't see Ori 2 making the jump for at least a few years
  • Assorted 3rd party ports. Date for Outer Worlds is a lock, but so many other games are out there. Metro, Control, Call of Duty... Mobile (le sigh), OW 2, Fallout... I expect (and want) all of these on here at some point. (And FFXV. Please, Square, I'm begging you guys here...)
  • NETFLIX. For God's sake, Nintendo, it's time. ( HBO Max would also be nice...)
  • Last but certainly not least... the new Smash DLC. Candidates at this stage include Chief, DoomGuy (my top 2), Sora, Waluigi, and perhaps someone from Namco.
  • ...Ah screw it, just localize Mother 3 and get it over with.

@sixrings January 17th, 2020. Doug Bowser is wrapping up yet another packed Direct...

Bowser: Thanks again to our friends at Sega for an exclusive look at Shin Megami Tensei V, due out this Christmas. Well, look's like that's all the time we have for you today. Thanks so much for watching and we can't wait to see what you play nex-

Static fills the screen before a hard cut to black. A lone piano note - a high E - rings out as a military radio crackles to life.

"Permission to leave the station?"
"For what purpose, Master Chief?"

"...To give the Covenant their bomb back."

Not Nintendo-related I know, but I REALLY like the look of 343's "Halo"-themed postcard. Simple yet effective, and very Norman Rockwell-ish to boot: https://content.halocdn.com/media/Default/community/blogs/343-seasons-greetings-2019-daf7fa5a2af949709f7db6fe9c5a5c6c.jpg

As for the ones shown, I think the Sonic one's my favorite. Konami gets docked points for teasing a non-existent new Castlevania (AGAIN) and it's interesting to see how Nintendo Japan are one of the only ones on here who actually wish us a "Merry Christmas."
