Re: Feature: One Year In, What do the Pros Think of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

ASonic3582

I feel more often than not "Nintendo doesn't support the scene" gets thrown about as a way of saying they aren't paying top players bills. While I understand those greivances, it seems kinda selfish to ignore the fact that they help cover other costs such as the venue, provide setups for the tournament, and even fly out new players through thier online tournaments, which seem to help the community as a whole more.

Re: Feature: Pokémon World Championships 2019: Bidding Farewell To The Nintendo 3DS

ASonic3582

Looking forward to next year, though as a Pokken fan, I'm worried Go might end up replacing it on the main stage which would be a shame.
@Cinaclov I'll take a wild guess and say they have a spectator mode planned which essentially gives a view akin to the 3DS games and allows you to watch battles and have a 3rd switch running that. I have no real reason for this other than it seems that they're more interested in vcg this time around with this year's worlds reveals being vcg focused, ranked mode being in the game itself and not needing an external site and easier access to rental teams, among other things.

Re: Reminder: The Pokémon Company Is Hosting Its 2019 Press Conference

ASonic3582

I'll take a stab at predicting this, doubt it'll be all but here's what I thinks possible:
New spinoff for switch and/or mobile (could be a sequel to an existing one or a brand new one)

Detective Pikachu port(s), again Switch and/or mobile

PTCG online for Switch

Let's Go wifi event

Anime/movie updates

one or two things about Sword and Shield as an appetizer for the direct

Re: Random: Competitive Melee Player Walks Off Stage In Match-Up Against Jigglypuff

ASonic3582

@J-Plap The Jigglypuff player had a life lead and decided to run away for the remaining time on the clock since the Ice Climber's have a hard time keeping up with Jigglypuff, after awhile the IC's player just kinda gave up and sat there, leading to the minute or so of sitting. People find the playstyle "boring", "lame" and "Not Melee" among other descriptions, leading to the booing.

Re: Random: Competitive Melee Player Walks Off Stage In Match-Up Against Jigglypuff

ASonic3582

@Arbor Tl:dr version is that recently, more Jigglypuff players have been getting better, including Hungrybox, the best Melee player in the world atm. As a character, Jigglypuff is considered "boring" due to its relatively slow and defensive playstyle and being relatively easy to play compared to the other Melee top tiers (Fox, Marth, etc.). Some players and spectators have become frustrated with Jigglypuff's playstyle thanks to these factors and have either quit the game or started calling for stuff such as rule changes or bans against it. I'm personally a fan of Jigglypuff, but understand why some people feel this way.

Re: Talking Point: The Pokémon Trading Card Game Is In Desperate Need of An Evolution

ASonic3582

I have some minor gripes with the online game. Namely the fact that online booster codes aren't 1:1 with the physical pack you got. It's kind of infuriating to see the card you wanted physically show up in the digital pack or vice versa. I'd also like a way to just scan in my hard cards so I can experiment with decks I actually have the resources to build. Otherwise I agree sets are a little big and I'd like PTCGO on the Switch (kinda surprised it hasn't yet, I feel like if that, the main series, and Pokken are all on the switch it would make big TPC events run smoother), but won't hold my breath on either

Re: New Battle Pack DLC is Coming to Pokkén Tournament DX Featuring New Characters

ASonic3582

@thesilverbrick The price kind of depends on whether you view this from a fighting game point of view or Nintendo one. From the Nintendo point of view, I agree this is expensive since they're dlc has been relatively generous compared to other companies. By fighting game standards, it's pretty standard, as most of them charge about $5 a pop for each dlc character, though I can't argue either way if a support set is worth half a character's price.

Re: Smash-Style Brawler Rivals of Aether Is Headed To Switch

ASonic3582

@GeminiSaint
I'd say it's unlikely, but not impossible that microsoft will let them be in the switch version. They released minecraft on Nintendo systems after they bought out the brand and have made ds games in the past. They've also been open to allowing their characters in nintendo games (see Phil Spencer's tweets from the Banjo in smash speculation). They've also been pushing for cross platform play with Minecraft and Rocket League between Xbox, Switch, and PC (Sony doesn't want it on PS4 for whatever reason). So I'd say it's possible without cross platform play, and mandatory if they want to continue that.

Re: Pokkén Tournament DX Update Adds Welcome New Features

ASonic3582

@thesilverbrick Fair enough, and I agree with you on types, mainly since there's still 2 of the 18 types that aren't represented. Though hopefully we get more characters over time, mostly depends on how popular it is, and hopefully without having to buy another system this time.

Re: Pokkén Tournament DX Update Adds Welcome New Features

ASonic3582

@thesilverbrick
Have you seen the current roster? I wouldn't call it solely gen 1 focused as gen 1 only has 1 more roster spot than the next highest gen being gen 4, with gen 4 actually having the most different species of Pokemon (7 gen 1 playable pokemon vs 6 gen 4, but 5 gen 1 species as opposed to gen 4's 6). Admittedley leaving the other 5 gens with about as many slots as each of those had is a little ridiculous, but the small roster comes with the benefit of a good balance and every playable Pokemon has been able to successfully perform at the top level

Re: Talking Point: How ARMS Can Punch Its Way Into Competitive Gaming

ASonic3582

@MegaVel91 I think that may be a result of the fact that while some of Melee's techniques were unintentional, like wavedashing, Sakurai said it was an accident but they kept it in since they didn't think it would be too useful (which he was way wrong about), others were intended to be put in the game, like L cancelling (at least we can infer it was intended considering it was also in smash 64)

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Went Its Own Way at E3 2017, and It Mostly Worked

ASonic3582

I thought it was good. I enjoyed everything, especially the Pokken tourney (though I wish they had more people who played the game before enter). I know some people are upset they didn't show Prime 4 or Pokemon, but if I remember correctly Reggie said that the only reason they revealed Prime 4 was because the fanbase was waiting for it. And I think Pokemon was only revealed due to the fact people were upset at the direct from the week before cause I'm pretty sure if they were ready to show it then it would've been in the direct.

Not much left for the 3ds that I'm interested in, but at least I got a reason to get a switch soon.

Re: Rumour: Japanese Retailer References Pokkén Tournament in Switch Arcade Stick Listing

ASonic3582

Personally I hope this happens since it'd be nice to play Darkrai and the others based off the footage from the arcade version. But I'm kinda salty since according to some tweets from Harada, Namco basically already did all the work for the updated content to be on the Wii U but TPC refused to release it. The fact that the files were found in the Wii U version doesn't help its case. I never quite understood why they put so much effort into the game and promoting it through last year's world championships only to drop it the second it ended.

Also @Pigeon , Pokken did do well, at least by Wii U standards. It scored a million in sales at a point where the system was basically dead.

Re: Feature: Ten Wii U Games That Would Find a Loving Home on Nintendo Switch

ASonic3582

Only one of these I can see them make worth porting and selling for full price again is Pokken, but that's only because there's a ton content locked away in the arcade version. Probably gonna hear about it before CEO since that's the US qualifier event for the World championships this year and Japan used the updated arcade version for its qualifier.

Re: Reminder: A Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct is Coming on 18th January

ASonic3582

@LinkSword Well using Hyrule Warriors as an example, I think characters from older games will be available, but they may not tie into the main story. I'm basing this off how HW pulled from 3 games for the main story (OoT, TP, and SS) and then added characters from other games through both free and paid dlc or post release story add ons in Legends. Based off the trailer, Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates will be the games the main campaign of FE Warriors focuses on, with characters from other games probably sprinkled in either as bonus characters or post release additions

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

ASonic3582

As long as I don't suffer from lag, can communicate with friends easily online, and don't need more than 1 subscription per system, I couldn't care less about paying for online. Though I wish Nintendo (and Sony and Microsoft for that matter) offered a compromise of allowing people to play with people on their friends list online for free and make the subscription only for playing with strangers. I'll probably wait to get online until there's games I want to play that use it

Re: Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct Confirmed for 18th January

ASonic3582

So here's my guesses for the direct:
FE Warriors,
Marth, Chrom, Corrin, Ryoma, and Xander officially confirmed to be playable (The swords in the gems during the trailer belonged to those characters and technically Lucina, but Chrom was shown at the end).

It'll take a similar approach to Hyrule Warriors where it'll focus on 3-5 games for the main campaign (Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates based on the character reasoning above, and maybe one or two more), and the rest will be worked into side stories and/or future dlc updates.

Maybe other characters and locations, but I feel the 5 above will be a fine start and they can do what Smash, Pokken, and Hyrule Warriors did and add a reveal or two in every direct up until launch to build hype.

Maybe some gameplay structure and a strategy based side mode.

Release window

FE mobile
Release Date, payment structure, My Nintendo missons, pretty much everything if its supposed to launch soon

And wild guesses:
FE remaster/VC release of some kind, either individual games or collections. Both Switch and 3DS seem plausible here
Best games to guess would be PoR/Radiant Dawn, FE6, or Shadow Dragon/Mystery of the Emblem as people know Marth Ike and Roy from Smash. Maybe Awakening or Fates HD.
Possible updates for older games:
Pair up battle system, and possibly updated supports (just please don't force kids in where they weren't needed like in Fates)
Option to grind
Possibly Keep the weapon system of buffs/debuffs as opposed to durabilty from fates (Don't really care just pointing out the possibility)
"Master Quest" and "Simple Quest" style versions of the campaign. Master Quest as a more challenging option for those who beat the originals or want to play an older style version of Awakening/Birthright, Simple Quest for those used to Awakening/Birthrights gameplay style and haven't played the older games.

New FE game for the Switch, not even gonna try to guess how it'll end up if revealed.

Re: Gen II Roll-Out Begins in Pokémon GO

ASonic3582

1st off, some mild spoilers, it looks like all the baby Pokemon have been confirmed to have been added as reported on Serebii, I won't list them all for those who want to be surprised: http://serebii.net/
So does that mean the regular ones who technically shouldn't have eggs like Pikachu are gonna get removed and replaced with the baby versions?

Re: Pokkén Tournament to Get Another New Fighter in Arcades

ASonic3582

@RupeeClock Croagunk was actually in the data mine with the other 3. We just disregarded the significance of the Croagunk files since there isn't a way to distinguish between playable pokemon and supports. Essentially if people didn't jump to conclusions Croagunk would've been predicted like the others. So Empoleon is most likely next

Re: Pokkén Tournament's New Fighter Is A Bit Of A Surprise

ASonic3582

The thumbnail for the article got me thinking on a pretty complex theory. Since 3/4 dlc Pokemon are from Sinnoh (assuming Empoleon is still happening) and that Croagunk and Empoleon are being added, maybe the developers are big gen 4 fans and wanted at least 1 playable Pokemon from the line of each D/P anime protagonists signature Pokemon since Piplup was Dawn's and Croagunk was Brock's during the D/P anime. That or they want to give us a big "Sinnoh Confirmed" hint

Re: Pokkén Tournament's New Fighter Is A Bit Of A Surprise

ASonic3582

@FriedSquid @dew12333 Oddly enough, this data for Croagunk was found in the data mine, but people just disregarded the files as being related to the Croagunk support since there's no way to distinguish between playable Pokemon and supports in the data as they're all only labeled by Pokedex # either way. If you want more info you can check the Croagunk reveal thread on r/PokkenGame.

Re: Video: Pokémon Generations Episode 7: The Vision is Now Live

ASonic3582

Gonna be blunt, this reminded me of how Ruby and Sapphire kinda slapped moments that would've made more sense for one team on the other. Like how the whole submarine/underwater thing made sense for team Aqua, but not Magma and the volcano/meteorite scene making sense for Magma, but not Aqua. It just reminded me how much better Emerald was overall.

Re: A New Fighter Announcement for Pokkén Tournament Comes on 13th October

ASonic3582

Well I wouldn't call it anyone's guess because of the data leak. But it's exciting to see the roster still being worked on. I hope they announce Darkrai Scizor Empoleon, and the 4th Pokémon (I doubt they'll leave 1 corner of the screen blank) for Wii U soon, getting impatient waiting for them. I'm still baffled Darkrai wasn't announced at Pokémon world's this year like the vg and tcg got.
