Yo that's awesome! Bringing even more franchises to this already massive game is great!
I think this is the first Spirit Board event for a third-party game that isn't even in Smash. That's pretty cool.
say wat you well daemon x machina has some flaws but its an awesome mech game and hope we get more content for it down the road.
Hopefully the fact Three Houses and Astral Chain got skipped means they're getting DLC packs.
Now let's hope Marvelous Inc won't copy-strike it
An Arsenal for Smash would be need.
@Grumblevolcano FE has too much rep as is.
Xenoblade needs a second rep.
@Grumblevolcano I wouldn't be surprised if Astral Chain is first or 2nd on the next wave with this info. Three Houses not so sure but if they're using spirits to promote new IP seems werid they'd ignore Astral Chain.
@ASonic3582 Well there were Link's Awakening spirits in June for a spirit board event so not just new IP.
@Grumblevolcano Fair, you're point makes sense as other big releases had it as part of their marketing (e3 for Zelda, this for DxM, heck even the one spirit for the DQ11 demo) so I guess they would've done it by now to market 3 houses
@Grumblevolcano MORE FE content? No thanks.
Surprised they didn't do the same for Astral Chain.
@Jayofmaya @Trajan
Yeah I agree. The franchises with the most characters don't need anymore. Mario has 10, Pokemon has 9, Fire Emblem has 6. They have enough. I'd like to see another Xenoblade character like Elma or Rex. An F-Zero character, maybe Ninten from Mother 1, and King Hippo from Punch Out would be awesome.
@JR150 Actually there’s seven, don’t worry, I tend to forget Corrin as well.
The problem with the FE reps is that three of them come from one game, three of them are clon- I mean “echo fighters” of either Marth or Ike and all of them only use swords without a lance, axe or bow in sight. Thank goodness Robin at least uses tomes. This makes it hard to say that the current cast properly show all the facets of the series.
With Three Houses being such a success and having a bunch of fan favourite characters, it would feel a bit strange to not include a fighter from it.
If they made a Pokémon trainer style character with the TH main characters I could see a lot of fans being happy. Just so long as they’re not completely overpowered.
@Supaguy
Yeah. I do feel as though some of the hate is unwarranted. Such as the complaints over "sword" characters when in reality only 18 characters use swords in a game with 80+. (That's including Hero, Mii Sword, and Corrin lol). Meanwhile punchers/kickers/barehanded characters make up a majority of the roster.
And FE doesn't even have the most characters, as I pointed out, Mario and Pokemon have the most. Not to mention the Star Fox trio are clones of each other, Links are clones of each other, and Mario/Luigi/Dr. Mario are super similar. So people need to stop singling FE out for no good reason. Because Marth, Lucina, and Roy are really the only clones. Lucina is an echo of Marth and Chrom is an echo of Roy so you can stack them on those same slots. Ike, Robin, and Corrin are entirely unique. Ike focuses on heavy strikes, Robin uses magic, and Corrin is a dragon with moves of his own. (And actually no it's 5. They use the "E" symbol for echoes. So it's Marth/Lucina, Roy/Chrom, Ike, Corrin, and Robin. Five. The same amount that Zelda has.)
Soo...yeah. I get why people dislike them, but the hate is really dumb at this point. I don't like Joker, but I'm not gonna crap all over Persona for no reason.
(Sorry, had to get that out of my system.)
Anyway, sure, if they added Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude, that'd be awesome. (Especially so the haters will end up like a computer trying to divide by zero when an FE character that doesn't use a sword is in Smash. They simply wouldn't be able to hate on them.) I mean, they're amazing characters! I've beaten TH and it really has put FE back on the map, so yeah. I wouldn't mind. XD
@JR150
"Mario and Pokemon have the most."
They should have the most.
@Franklin
I know, but they don't need anymore. Mario, Pokemon, and FE all have enough. Let's expand the other franchises like Xenoblade, Punch-Out and F-Zero (which have only one character each.) or Star Fox (whose trio plays almost the same with small differences.) or Mother (which has the protagonist of the first game missing.)
@Grumblevolcano With the new season pass being announced in the recent Direct, there is a possibility. Heck there's a chance one of the new Fire Emblem characters could find their way into Smash Bros Ultimate as DLC. You never know with Sakurai.
@JR150
I'd say that Fire Emblem is still overrepresented.
Yoshi series needs another character.
I want Kamek.
@Franklin
I disagree considering there's only 5 characters. Marth/Lucina, Roy/Chrom, Ike, Robin, and Corrin. (They treat echoes as the same character with an e symbol.) Zelda also has five, so yeah. Mario and Pokemon have way more than that, so I'd say it's about fair for the franchise.
And Yoshi is a part of Mario technically, which has enough as is. Let's be fair and give things to other franchises XD
@JR150
You reckon Fire Emblem is as important as Zelda?!
Yoshi is distinctly of his own series in Smash, and always has been. Hence the egg rather than mushroom symbol.
@Franklin
I mean, yeah? Both are two different types of games and are important for their own reasons. Sure Zelda has sold more, but Fire Emblem represents the tactical warfare genre, something that not many devs try to do. Plus, if Sakurai didn't think it were as important, then those 5 characters wouldn't be in the game. They're saying it, not me.
And Yoshi's first appearance was in a Mario game--Super Mario World. It's a subverse like DK and Wario, but still part of Mario, as both Donkey Kong and Wario's first game appearances were with Mario.
If you don't like it, that's fine, but it's what Sakurai and his team chose. All you have to do is simply not play as those characters. I mean, I don't like Joker at all but I'm not gonna pretend Persona is an unimportant game.
There is a big debate whether this means theres an Astral Chain/Three Houses character coming cause they got no spirits, but where I'm not sure on Astral Chain, could work as the game was beloved and adds another Platinum rep, I'm really thinking FE has a shot cause the 2nd DLC wave did not confirm more stages are accompanying them, Three Houses was also very beloved and Sakurai is a massive Fire Emblem fan. The fact Three Houses was skipped on a very easy Spirit Event (Byleth, Edelgard, Dimitri, Claude), doesn't sound right. Overall, would be happy as I love Fire Emblem, hopefully could improve people liking the roster due to half of it is the Marthtastic Four and yes it is one of the more bloated franchises in Smash yet Phirana Plant and Incineroar were added, I dont care at this point
@JR150
"Plus, if Sakurai didn't think it were as important, then those 5 characters wouldn't be in the game. They're saying it, not me."
This is circular reasoning, essentially saying they should be in Smash because they are in Smash.
Reminds me of many conversations with certain kinds of Christians:
How do you know God exists?
Because it says so in the Bible.
How do you know the Bible is true?
Because it was written by God.
I feel really bad for Daemon X Machina. It’s great that it’s being represented in Smash in some form, but releasing the game in September was a big mistake in my opinion, because it’s being buried by Link’s Awakening, Dragon Quest XI S and some third party titles, not to mention the launch of the Switch Lite. I feel like the development team at Marvelous really cared about this game, almost like a passion project of sorts for them, and their willingness to respond to feedback from the prototype missions demo shows that they wanted us to enjoy the game more and almost get us involved in improving it. And believe me, they responded to a hefty amount of criticism, like all sorts of features relating to visibility of enemies, sound effects, visuals, abilities and more were changed, because we complained about them; I haven’t seen many games do such a thing recently, it’s kind of amazing if you think about it. If I were them, I would’ve released the game right before the middle of October or around then, so that people would’ve had time to enjoy Link’s Awakening and Dragon Quest (well maybe not DQ fully considering it’s sheer size, but it’s a tight schedule on Switch for the rest of this year) and had enough time to play this game, before Luigi’s Mansion, Pokemon and Mario and Sonic come out. I also think maybe revealing the game later in a standard Nintendo Direct may have resulted in more interest from people, because everyone was very confused when it opened their E3 2018 Direct with no context; people then just assumed it was a stylised, but generic mech game, and especially since the lid was lifted on Smash Ultimate, many Nintendo fans reflecting on the event were confused about, and perhaps indifferent to DXM. Also, other than the confusing reveal, announcing the game later could’ve helped the interest in this game rise. Since they announced the game over a year before it was ready, it showed up in four more directs afterwards, and people were just fed up and tired of seeing it. With all that in mind, I’ll be intrigued to see any sales figures for DXM in the near future. I hope that the game didn’t completely bomb, but I have an inkling that it hasn’t moved units quickly considering the circumstances. Maybe these new spirits will make the game more successful, but such a promotion might be too little, too late with how many games are releasing in late Q3 and Q4 for Nintendo Switch.
Awesome, I will be sure to snag these! I am always looking for an excuse to beat up fools with Banjo and Kazooie!
Closest we'll get to Gundam in Smash XD
@Trajan could work as a final smash, assists trophy or boss but otherwise you'd still be more likely to just see an Outer as a character due to human scale. With their attack drones(?), agility and such they could still be pretty interesting to play however.
@Supaguy like if Three House was made into dlc I feel like it would have to do something like any of(or all of them) the houses representatives as characters and actively avoid using Byleth.
I've not played yet but from promo images Byleth feels like another sword users or at least sword+magic but all three houses reps seemed to specifically uses non-swords weapons: iirc one uses axes, ...the other uses spears and the last one(golden deers?) bows which could be an interesting -primary- weapon in smash I feel.
@NintendoWiiDS if it means anything, DxM seem to be doing slightly better as of late? Like it actually began showing up in the eshop best sellers, which DQXIs has yet to do(though if the best sellers list included only full prices 80$CAD games like Link's Awakening/DxM/DQ11... dq11 would actually be there and perhaps wouldn't be at the bottom either)
@Ludovsky it’s good to hear that. I guess it hasn’t been completely buried so far on the digital end, but I feel like the prospect of DXM being forgotten is something of an inevitability with Dragon Quest XI S, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Sword and Shield, third party titles and even Mario and Sonic on the horizon. If what I’m saying is the case then it’s a crying shame because Marvelous is a talented developer and they’ve put a lot of effort and love into a project that may have come out at the worst possible time. Backing up what you said though, the special ‘orbital edition’ of the game featuring some physical items like an arsenal statue, did sell out on Nintendo’s store back in July when it first became available to pre order, but that may just be due to collectors snapping up a limited edition version of the game, or the fact that the package was initially available in limited quantities; also the orbital edition was in stock at major retailers the last time I checked, you’d think it would’ve sold out by now, but perhaps that’s a testament to the potential failure of DXM, at least physically.
The game to me seems like a hidden little gem made with love, so glad Smash is putting some spotlight on it at what seems to be a iffy release time. It doesn't deserve to be buried.
@Kainbrightside I second the idea that it would be nice if it became a new Nintendo IP.
@NintendoWiiDS I agree with you in that I hope it does well in the end. They really did seem to take fan feedback into consideration because the last demo before release was a big improvement. It's one of the few utr third party releases that I had an eye on for a while and actually got on launch. I can understand pricing concern though(even just $10 less would've gotten more eyes on it I feel), especially for an unknown title.
Ultimately, games like this are ones I hope become their own thing.
additional trophies would be nice. Imagine one of these mechs popping out in a match
@Lalivero I agree with your suggestion on pricing. Cutting the price could’ve made the game stand out more than it does right now. I also agree with @Kainbrightside Daemon X Machina has potential for expansion upon its world, mechanics and concept. But at this rate, we might not be getting a sequel; depends on how lofty Marvelous’ expectations are sales wise, I’m sure they’re not like EA expecting a skeleton of a FIFA game to sell like hot cakes on Switch, but maybe they’re expecting a modest success at least.
I feel like this is showing us a hint for the last fighter..
@Grumblevolcano This.This!OMG This!
Lol sorry...but yes Astral Chain and Three Houses spirits would be incredible.
And I acquired them
