Telltale Games has confirmed that 'The Final Season' of the studio's episodic take on zombie-survival TV and comic phenomenon The Walking Dead will be arriving on Switch in "late 2018", sometime after its August release elsewhere.
Protagonist Clementine, now a fierce and capable survivor after years of determination and heartbreak, has now reached the final chapter in her journey. After even more time on the road facing threats both living and dead, a secluded school might finally be her chance for a home, but protecting it will result in sacrifice. Clem must build a life and become a leader while still watching over AJ, an orphaned boy and the closest thing to family she has left. In this final season, players will define relationships, fight the undead, and determine how Clementine's story ends.
Telltale's The Walking Dead series has already seen three full seasons, as well as the '400 Days' and 'Michonne' adventures. This 'The Final Season' is the first time we've seen the series arrive on a Nintendo platform and, as of yet, there is no news on whether or not the previous entries might also make it to the console. The Walking Dead Collection, which contains all of those but Season 3: A New Frontier, has already been released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - hopefully a Switch version will come along to give players the full experience.
The series has been hugely popular on rival platforms (particularly Season One), being praised by players and critics alike, so this announcement for a Switch version of the game is very welcoming news indeed. The title of the trailer above states that it's an "E3 2018 Teaser Trailer", so hopefully we'll get to see a little more about the adventure at the big event.
Have you played any of The Walking Dead games from Telltale on other systems? Are you excited to see it come to Switch? As ever, share your thoughts with us down below.

I liked season 1, season 2 was amazing, and season 3 was just such a huge letdown. I'm hoping season 4 gets better than season 3, but I highly doubt it.
The Walking Dead 'the final season' is coming to all platforms in August, with the Switch version arriving later this year. I’m hoping that means it’ll release along with seasons one and two, plus the Michonne mini series in one big The Walking Dead Collection epic!
im very interested in this. i'd play what little of the 1st Season way back on Xbox 360. so, i may get this!
It's good that this is coming to the Switch, but I learned after just the first two seasons on Vita that the best way to enjoy this is to stick to the same platform so your decisions carry over. For me, that meant double-dipping (thankfully, not an expensive thing to do as these titles are always on sale) when it became clear the Vita wouldn't see the story through to conclusion.
I'd double dip to have the entire collection on Switch.
YOOOOOO. I was so confused at first cause the switch wasn’t one of the consoles, and then BAM. Late 2018. Mad dope
IF they bring all the earlier content on Switch in a physical collection, I'll gladly replay it all (Vita versions didn't run/control nearly smooth enough to be remotely enjoyable, and I'm over playing on a TV since Switch, except for couch multiplayer).
I have the first 2 seasons on vita and they are great, but it would be nice to have all the seasons on one platform (switch) so I hope the collection comes to switch along with season 3 which I have not played yet.
@DTfeartheBEARD You could skip season 3 entirely and it would make no difference for entering 4. Season 3 just felt like a terrible filler arc.
Whats with the price? (when i think about batman!)
Only played Walking Dead Season 1, 2 and 400 Days. Would purchase them all again to have them all on Switch. I love that franchise.
Haven’t heard good things about Season 3 though
@Yasume Season 3 had some good things but overall it was just bad. It just feels like a pointless filler arc that you could skip over and you wouldn't miss a single thing that would confuse you in season 4.
If they're smart, they'll launch a "Walking Dead Collection" with all the previous games bundled in a month or so before this releases on Switch.
I enjoyed Season One when it first came out, years and years ago, but I've kind of gotten over it. Season 2 has been on my computer forever and I... just don't care enough to really get into it. Season 1 ended perfectly for me.
Meeh, it's nice to see this, but I feel like nothing they've done really lives up to Walking Dead Season 1.
@Ralizah Trust me when I say you'll want to check out season 2. Its such an amazing continuation of the first season and it really gets you invested in the new cast of characters. As well as returning characters.
WHOOPPPP!!! I hope this is the start of telltale bringing more to switch. I haven’t played this but will be getting this the minute it lands.
PLEASE bring us Monkey island, played them but will happily buy again. There are so many others I would love to see here too.
I used to play these on the iPad but honestly haven’t picked it up for games since I bought the switch. So excited for this!
@patbacknitro18 you will get confused as you know of AJ and how he is. Growing up in season 3 and also Clem taking care of him.
Poker Night 2 pls TT
@patbacknitro18 Part of what's putting me off of it is that I lost my save data for Season 1. Just how integrated are S1 decisions into Season 2 and its storytelling?
@Ralizah Oh not very much, season 1 to season 2 doesn't matter that much as it almost always ends the same way. Season 2 to season 3 matters because the ending of season 2 can drastically change depending on your choices. I think season 1 ended with them not really planning on a season 2, but season 2 ends in a way that sets up multiple scenarios for season 3.
@Ralizah As long as you know the core story of season 1 then you'll be fine through season 2.
@patbacknitro18 Yeah, I remember everything in S1 pretty vividly. Thanks for the information!
@The_Pixel_King THIS!
Man, if I cared about The Walking Dead, I'd be excited.
Season 1/2 was amazing on the vita. Would love for season 3 to come to the switch, before i play season 4. Perfect handheld games. Love telltale batman on the switch.
Yeah, they definitely need to release a complete collection of sorts. I never got around to playing S1 or 2 on Vita, but would definitely buy a collection on Switch.
I played season 1 and 400 days on the Vita, and they were enjoyable. But would definitely like the chance to play seasons 2 and 3 on the switch before this one
Come on telltale you had one job and that was to bring the whole series over to switch.
Hype for the game, but getting it on PC unless we get a Switch port of the previous seasons.
why not release the whole complete series for switch rather then just the final season it makes no sense.
@garydbz25 Because the 4th season is brand new and they would make much more money selling it alone, alongside the collection edition.
hey, bring out guardians of the galaxy and a wolf among us..
@ekwcll Wasn't Guardians terrible?
It's interesting that they're ending what made the TellTale game formula.
