It's been awhile since we've heard any news relating to Pokkén Tournament, but it seems like the silence is soon to be broken. Not long ago, Darkrai was added as a new fighter for the Japan-only arcade version, though it still has yet to show up in the Wii U version despite being spotted in update files. Now, Namco Bandai is gearing up to announce another new fighter for the popular game.
The announcement is due on October 13th and it will evidently be just for the arcade version for now. Of course, that's not to say that this mystery Pokémon won't be coming to the Wii U game, but it may be a bit of a wait before it makes it over. It's really anybody's guess as to which Pokémon to expect, there's certainly been some unconventional choices, but it's nice to see that that game is still receiving support all these months after release.
What do you think? Who could it be? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I'm guessing that by the Wii U data mine leaks that it will either be Scizor or Empoleon.
I'm thinking Scizor just because of Datamining months ago. being able to Mega evolve also gives it a reason for a super mode. as much as Empoleon is cool, Marketting is probably focused towards the popular pokemon.
Empoleon would probably get something in the D/P remakes in a few years.
Maybe one of the new Alolan version Pokemon.
Well I wouldn't call it anyone's guess because of the data leak. But it's exciting to see the roster still being worked on. I hope they announce Darkrai Scizor Empoleon, and the 4th Pokémon (I doubt they'll leave 1 corner of the screen blank) for Wii U soon, getting impatient waiting for them. I'm still baffled Darkrai wasn't announced at Pokémon world's this year like the vg and tcg got.
I sincerely hope we one day get these guys on the console version.
INFERNAPE I CHOOSE YOU!!!! (Please ;-; )
Please appear on Wii U version also...
16 Playable Pokemons are still not enough.
Please be Magikarp... or Lickitung..... or Jynx....... or Dunsparce....
I want more of the sillier, "fun" Pokémon on the roster. =P
@sillygostly Why not Sunkern? That's a good PokéMon, right?
Empoleon or Scizor. I'm gonna take a guess and say that the Wii U version will get the DLC fighters in a bundle pack next year.
C'mon Ludicolo!
Hope these make it to the WiiU too.
Come oooooooon Ludicolo
@Ogbert ooh woooo!!
@sillygostly Magikarp is actually already in the game as a support pokemon. It's just too hard to make one of those options anything besides a support.
Please be Umbreon!
Love this game, but sadly I think that if we were going to get dlc for the Wii U version, we'd have had it by now.
I'm also giving up hope of any DLC coming out for Pokken Tournament... it seemed for a time that it would happen, but I think it's been too long and hype long over.
@Jayronauron Fair enough. I didn't realise as I've bought the game at launch (didn't want to miss out on that limited edition Dark Mewtwo amiibo card) but I've only played it briefly.
@allav866 : Why not Wynaut? =P
"who's that pokemon?"
It's Question-markee!!
Primeape would fit in so well, but out of 700+ they probably won't be looking anymore towards gen 1. Anything new and unexpected would be a welcome addition. Just please no more legends...
Baron Lickilucky!
While the datamining does make Scizor or Empoleon most likely, the timing would also fit with a seventh generation addition in the run up to the release of Sun and Moon.
I'm disappointed that Pokkén Tournament didn't grab me as much as I thought it would on paper. When you have Smash, no other Nintendo fighter/brawler really matters
i think it will come to the wii u when al 4 are released on the arcade. One dlc with the 4 characters
Lopunny please.
I got the game, enjoyed it for a bit. But I've never been the biggest fan of having to learn a bazillion different button combination's for specific moved. Main reason as to why smash bros has always attractive me, due to its simplicity and reliance on skill, something I do enjoy!
Hmm... so many good choices!
Darkrai hasn't even been released on the Wii U version yet! What gives?
I hope the new Pokémon will be a non-legendary water-type though, that's something that I really miss in the game for the moment. Hopefully a starter, since we have starters for Grass and Fire types. Would be cool if it would be Swampert to complete the Hoenn trio in Pokkén.
Just please do not add any more fire-type starters, we already have THREE of those!!
Regardless.. if neither Darkrai, nor the new character will be coming to the Wii U version... then I don't care one bit who they're gonna add, since I won't be able to enjoy it then anyway.
Obviously it's gonna be a Generation VII Pokémon as a plug.
Sumo Pikachu, obviously.
the way nintendo gets so much mindshare and coverage with so little effort, i wouldn't be surprised if this reveal somehow manages to get as much hype or more than the psvr release on the same day.
This is one of those fighters where there should be at least 45+ characters to choose from. If they don't announce some new characters soon I'm selling my copy, it gets old playing with the same ones. SSB has almost half the amount of Poké characters as this game!!!!
Nintendo was at Comic Con Copenhagen with eight Wii U kiosks, and they all played Pokkén Tournament or Color Splash.
I'll be so disappointed if one of the character slots is used for a Sun/Moon Pokemon.
Give us them on WIIU
Hmmm... I smell a NX Ultimate version of Pokken. I don't think they will put the time/money into giving us new content, period.
Too bad too. I'd like more content for Pokken but not sure how much (very little) I would be willing to pay for it. Love the game but they sort of owed us a little more it was a bit on the light side as far as content and modes.
Hauwlalucha
Greninja would be a good choice.
...Swampert or Hawlucha!
