This is so on point for my kids (ages 10-3), literally a potential killer app for their set. Next do a proper She-Ra game and I will have endless gratitude for producing gaming content that perfectly aligns their interests (outside timeless Nintendo IP).
Lack of MUSHA and Super Aleste hurts so much. Buying it anyway, but these kind of gaps in classic collections is hard to get over. Complete, comprehensive collections can be so incredibly satisfying...
Ironically my 10 year-old son dug through some of my old DS games, fixated on this one, and has barely put it down the last 2-3 weeks, even well after beating it. Now he talks about part combinations and mechs all the time (instead of Smash Bros. and Pokemon). A testament to the classic gameplay and timeless appeal of this little DS gem.
@nintykid Fine subsitute Madden and nearly any other EA release, Assassin's Creed and nearly any other Ubisoft release, or Falllout and nearly any other Bethesda release.
But I stand by my Fortnite example... I'm not just talking bugs, I mean they f*** that up regularly. Chapter 2 is as boring as it gets.
@Snaplocket Ok, sure. But are we talking about efficacy or just looking for things to complain about?
I see stuff like this in all forms of media, shrug, and move on. This issue is among the tamest... Likely to go unnoticed by the vast majority. That we are combing through the end credits days after release and spending any time parroting something so unobtrusive tells me we are going in the wrong direction.
@ProfessorNess Fortnite is the biggest game in the world and has major issues every update (bi-weekly) that renders items unusable, challenges impossible, cosmetics broken, etc... Pretty sure no one is missing the point.
All I want are good versions of classic Monkey Golf, Fight, Race, Billiards, Dogfight and especially Target. So, like everyone else what I really want is a SMB1+2 remaster/remake.
The group concept is neat, but terrible from a readability standpoint. I'd like to see collecting people transform the player into something like a large suit rather than a fluid mass to make it easier to see your character and perform actions in tense, chaotic combat. Maybe as long as you have more than say 10-20 people, further tiers could additionally transform/powerup the player. Anyway, this one change could make the game much easier to follow and understand, it's just a cleaner concept with further potential.
I mean, if this was a new Comix Zone I'd think it looks perfect. As a new Streets of Rage I'm not fully on board yet. Doesn't strike the attitude or verve I'm looking for, I guess... (Of course, I'll buy it several times (more if physical) eitherway.)
To be fair, my bias dictates that Street of Rage should primarily look and feel as 90s as possible. No compromises, sorry.
Love all of it. Piranha Plant is so perfect in so many ways. Completely out of left field yet easily one of the most iconic fodder in gaming. Awesomely unique moveset to boot. Sakurai needs to tickle us with this eccentric mindset, it's part of what makes the SSB series so special.
@VexingInsanity 1. Hades is the best, most fabulous villain in any Nintendo game. There should at least be a stage inside his belly.
2. Chibi Robo is a perfect character, iconic or not. His design, his animations, his ethos are all integral. To me that's more than iconic.
3. Geno is no more iconic and less interesting. From my viewpoint he offers basically nothing other than a throwback to SMRPG. There is very little to even work with other than a mediocre character design.
4. Fans clamor for all the dumbest things.
This is inaccurate, you'll notice that those 800 million sales are from all Sonic products (including merchandise, amusement devices, etc.) if you look closely at the report. In reality the Sonic titles have sold around 80 million. I believe the last official game sales numbers from SEGA were in the 70 million range some years ago (not including f2p).
Extremely hyped, but this has also stoked my desperate desire for an Ultima IX Ascension remaster. I long ago accepted the dim fate, but this naming cruelly tempts my beleaguered hope.
@Painkiller_Mike They already have loot pinatas, but there are no signs they are going the microtransaction route or plan to ask people to pay to open them. Not sure where you got that or if it's just a cynical take.
It's merely a progression system catering to modern sensibilities.
@EVIL-C You can basically play normal online matches, or online with bots in addition to singleplayer with bots and up to 8 players wirelessly. No splitscreen.
For us it has been a lot of fun to team up against the bots for some quick matches to prove our superiority to AI. We've yet to go online, but the bots are actually pretty good so far, definitely worthy of a lunchbreak beatdown.
Hoping the developers support the game in the long run, but the core is fairly strong. Good controls and movement, fast pace, decent gunplay and variety, and opportunities for neat tactics.
EDIT: Should say the game is quite smooth in local and bot matches.
Why hasn't anyone made downsized Cocktail Table arcade cabinets? Lots of nostalgia for those in pizza parlors and such. Also seems like a good way to make comfortable 2-player on a small cabinet.
@EightBitMan One developer wishing to port a game to Switch proves none of that. I mean, it doesn't appear they were asked which Switch game they would like to port to other systems. How you made that connection is baffling to me. Sony, Nintendo, Panic Button, and all other game companies are in it to make money, which HZD did. It's not some charity...
@HobbitGamer It is technically possible, though moving a current project over to a new UE version is quite laborious. Some things improve while many things break... So it requires a lot of effort to migrate which isn't practical for most projects.
This will probably get lost, but I would encourage anyone worried about heat while docked to plug a small desktop fan into one of the usb slots and have it blow across the system from end to end. We don't have any AC so I do this in the summer and a Switch will barely heat up. Costs maybe $5-10, so I think it is worth taking the chance it may help.
Two launch Switches here, each played well over a thousand hours amongst my family members. No cracks anywhere on either system... Both are in really good shape with no issues. Knock on wood.
EDIT: Should note these are both played probably 80% docked.
@Preposterous The review fails to highlight this, possibly considering it a flaw from the original, but the trilogy has broken hitboxes... A massive no-no in a platformer.
@Ambermoon Haven't played the Switch version, but on PS4 the game is not very good if you have played the originals recently.
Not sure why this is largely ignored around the internet, but the hitboxes for enemies is not consistent, such as jumping on an enemy hurts the player when it should have damaged the enemy. Further, hitboxes are not consistent with the original, making some levels improperly spaced, instead unnecessarily frustrating and unreliable.
In a way it is a broken platformer considering how important consistent hitboxes and spacing are for the genre. For some reason the Crash Trilogy gets a free pass.
There are more problems but it is fairly technical. The games are still pretty fun and may not be a problem for most beyond cheap deaths and poor flow.
@KingMike Preorders for Switch games allow a two week window to purchase. Maybe not ideal, but plenty of time to sort out if you are really interested. I'm very thankful that we are not at the mercy of a true limited run.
Thinking it over, I would've easily bought both versions if the lineups weren't so goofy. As it is, I'm leaning against the investment and simply continuing to expand my Switch Neo Geo collection. Some of these decisions irk me enough that I doubt I will be satisfied, it might just be a source of frustration.
I was so on board it's a pretty deflating feeling... Maybe one day my dreams will come true and they'll release a Neo Geo Pocket Keychain...
Depressing... The Japan version is such a better lineup. Add a handful of games to that version and there is hardly any reason for the international version to exist. I'm a bit gutted.
I'm also irrationally upset they left out Neo Turf Masters and Baseball Stars 2 for far worse games. Also the Last Blade and Shock Troopers being exclusive while the sequels are universal.

The fact that we are even talking about this completely inconspicuous and inconsequential issue is more revealing to me.
I wouldn't bother to fix that either. I mean, just imagine the laundry list the developers are confronting up to release...
