Ironically my 10 year-old son dug through some of my old DS games, fixated on this one, and has barely put it down the last 2-3 weeks, even well after beating it. Now he talks about part combinations and mechs all the time (instead of Smash Bros. and Pokemon). A testament to the classic gameplay and timeless appeal of this little DS gem.

@Snaplocket Ok, sure. But are we talking about efficacy or just looking for things to complain about?

I see stuff like this in all forms of media, shrug, and move on. This issue is among the tamest... Likely to go unnoticed by the vast majority. That we are combing through the end credits days after release and spending any time parroting something so unobtrusive tells me we are going in the wrong direction.

All the magic is gone.

Re: PlatinumGames Has Been Doing "A Lot Of Intel Gathering" For The Wonderful 101

The group concept is neat, but terrible from a readability standpoint. I'd like to see collecting people transform the player into something like a large suit rather than a fluid mass to make it easier to see your character and perform actions in tense, chaotic combat. Maybe as long as you have more than say 10-20 people, further tiers could additionally transform/powerup the player. Anyway, this one change could make the game much easier to follow and understand, it's just a cleaner concept with further potential.

Also they need to fix the unwieldy menu system.

Re: Gallery: There’s No Need To Bash These New Streets Of Rage 4 Screenshots

ACK

I mean, if this was a new Comix Zone I'd think it looks perfect. As a new Streets of Rage I'm not fully on board yet. Doesn't strike the attitude or verve I'm looking for, I guess... (Of course, I'll buy it several times (more if physical) eitherway.)

To be fair, my bias dictates that Street of Rage should primarily look and feel as 90s as possible. No compromises, sorry.

Re: Three New Characters Join The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Roster

Love all of it. Piranha Plant is so perfect in so many ways. Completely out of left field yet easily one of the most iconic fodder in gaming. Awesomely unique moveset to boot. Sakurai needs to tickle us with this eccentric mindset, it's part of what makes the SSB series so special.

Re: Rumour: Unannounced Characters For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Have Possibly Been Leaked

@VexingInsanity 1. Hades is the best, most fabulous villain in any Nintendo game. There should at least be a stage inside his belly.
2. Chibi Robo is a perfect character, iconic or not. His design, his animations, his ethos are all integral. To me that's more than iconic.
3. Geno is no more iconic and less interesting. From my viewpoint he offers basically nothing other than a throwback to SMRPG. There is very little to even work with other than a mediocre character design.
4. Fans clamor for all the dumbest things.

Re: Sega's Sonic The Hedgehog Series Has Shifted 800 Million Games To Date

ACK

This is inaccurate, you'll notice that those 800 million sales are from all Sonic products (including merchandise, amusement devices, etc.) if you look closely at the report. In reality the Sonic titles have sold around 80 million. I believe the last official game sales numbers from SEGA were in the 70 million range some years ago (not including f2p).

Re: Review: Morphies Law (Switch eShop)

@Painkiller_Mike They already have loot pinatas, but there are no signs they are going the microtransaction route or plan to ask people to pay to open them. Not sure where you got that or if it's just a cynical take.

It's merely a progression system catering to modern sensibilities.

Re: Review: Morphies Law (Switch eShop)

@EVIL-C You can basically play normal online matches, or online with bots in addition to singleplayer with bots and up to 8 players wirelessly. No splitscreen.

For us it has been a lot of fun to team up against the bots for some quick matches to prove our superiority to AI. We've yet to go online, but the bots are actually pretty good so far, definitely worthy of a lunchbreak beatdown.

Hoping the developers support the game in the long run, but the core is fairly strong. Good controls and movement, fast pace, decent gunplay and variety, and opportunities for neat tactics.

EDIT: Should say the game is quite smooth in local and bot matches.

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

ACK

@EightBitMan One developer wishing to port a game to Switch proves none of that. I mean, it doesn't appear they were asked which Switch game they would like to port to other systems. How you made that connection is baffling to me. Sony, Nintendo, Panic Button, and all other game companies are in it to make money, which HZD did. It's not some charity...

Re: Poll: Is Your Nintendo Switch Cracking Under The Pressure?

ACK

This will probably get lost, but I would encourage anyone worried about heat while docked to plug a small desktop fan into one of the usb slots and have it blow across the system from end to end. We don't have any AC so I do this in the summer and a Switch will barely heat up. Costs maybe $5-10, so I think it is worth taking the chance it may help.

Re: Poll: Is Your Nintendo Switch Cracking Under The Pressure?

Two launch Switches here, each played well over a thousand hours amongst my family members. No cracks anywhere on either system... Both are in really good shape with no issues. Knock on wood.

EDIT: Should note these are both played probably 80% docked.

Re: Review: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (Switch)

ACK

@Ambermoon Haven't played the Switch version, but on PS4 the game is not very good if you have played the originals recently.

Not sure why this is largely ignored around the internet, but the hitboxes for enemies is not consistent, such as jumping on an enemy hurts the player when it should have damaged the enemy. Further, hitboxes are not consistent with the original, making some levels improperly spaced, instead unnecessarily frustrating and unreliable.

In a way it is a broken platformer considering how important consistent hitboxes and spacing are for the genre. For some reason the Crash Trilogy gets a free pass.

There are more problems but it is fairly technical. The games are still pretty fun and may not be a problem for most beyond cheap deaths and poor flow.

Re: These Are The Games Included In SNK’s Neo Geo Mini And Neo Geo Mini International

ACK

Thinking it over, I would've easily bought both versions if the lineups weren't so goofy. As it is, I'm leaning against the investment and simply continuing to expand my Switch Neo Geo collection. Some of these decisions irk me enough that I doubt I will be satisfied, it might just be a source of frustration.

I was so on board it's a pretty deflating feeling... Maybe one day my dreams will come true and they'll release a Neo Geo Pocket Keychain...

Re: These Are The Games Included In SNK’s Neo Geo Mini And Neo Geo Mini International

ACK

Depressing... The Japan version is such a better lineup. Add a handful of games to that version and there is hardly any reason for the international version to exist. I'm a bit gutted.

I'm also irrationally upset they left out Neo Turf Masters and Baseball Stars 2 for far worse games. Also the Last Blade and Shock Troopers being exclusive while the sequels are universal.
