Bloober Team, the studio behind psychological horror Layers of Fear: Legacy, has announced that its cyberpunk horror outing Observer (or '>observer_', as it's actually stylised) is making its way to Nintendo Switch.
Ominously described as a "horror game designed to disturb you", Observer takes place in the year 2084. You are Daniel Lazarski, an elite neural detective known as an 'Observer', whose purpose is to hack and invade suspects’ minds. To gather evidence, you must relive their darkest fears, and, finally, face your own.
The game initially launched on other platforms last summer, going on to receive 'very positive' reviews on Steam and scoring well among critics. We enjoyed Layers of Fear: Legacy when that game arrived on Switch, awarding it a 'great' 8/10 in our review, so we're excited to see the studio's next effort make it onto Nintendo's platform as well.
Here's a handy list of game features to give you a little more info.
Features:
- Observe and Report - You are Dan Lazarski, an elite neural detective known as an Observer, and part of a corporate-funded police unit whose purpose is to hack and invade suspects’ minds. In this future, anything you think, feel, or remember can be used against you in a court of law.
- A Dark Dystopia - The year is 2084. If you somehow survived the Nanophage, odds are you were killed in the War. Those who live have turned to drugs, VR, neural implants— anything to distract themselves from this new reality. But they can’t hide from you.
- Interactive Insanity - As you hack into the unstable minds of criminals and victims to look for clues, you will relive their darkest fears, forcing you to question your own reality -- and your sanity.
- Take the Horror With You! - >observer_ for Nintendo Switch uses all of the unique features of the system, including full Joy-Con support, Touchscreen, and the option to play both in docked and in handheld modes.
We don't have an exact release date for the Switch version just yet, but we'll make sure to keep an eye out for any more news on this one over the coming weeks.

I saw cyberpunk and thought of Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 surprises all and comes to switch... 😏
Observer is a decent game. I liked it. Glad to see its coming to switch.
@iLikeUrAttitude
Same here!
Excellent news, hopefully a physical release from Limited Run Games is in the cards.
Wowsers! It's so Blade Runner. Saxophone synth check, dark 'n' drizzly, check. Flying cars, check. Is that actually Rutger Hauer?? Defo interested.
Looks interesting, way better than Layers of Fear at least.
@GrailUK Yes it is. He's great in it.
So a mix of Legacy of Fear and Psychonauts?? I’m so in, I was here before I knew it.
@Mordridakon Gah. Sold then. Can't wait!
I love cyberpunk.but i hated layers of fear when i tried it.so i dont know
@Ahlvin23 Observer fixes a lot of the issues of Layers of fear, giving you more to do with actual puzzles and light stealth, with a more involved story and more of a psychological horror experience instead of just jump scares.
Cool concept, looks promising. I expect good things considering the developer.
Excited for this
Oh yeah, I'm all over this.
Does anyone know what the equivalent of PEGI 16 is in the US? Is that Teen or M?
Day 4 purchase for me.
"From the creators of Layers of Fear: Legacy" is all I needed to hear. Day 1 buy for me!
Curious factoid: Bloober Team is made of Nibris former employees...that same Nibris that teased Sadness for the Wii all those years ago. Google the whole fiasco for a good chuckle.
But don´t think that is something I hold against them. I am really glad the good part of the company actually managed release horror games, I am really enjoying Layesr of Fear Legacy.
Layers of Fear was amazing and I've been curious about this game as well. Great to see it's coming here now, especially since the Steam minimums of "3.4 GHz and 8 Gb RAM" never made it sound like the most likely candidate for my GPD Win. Underpowered Switch to the rescue! XD
Hopefully there's smooth framerate in the switch version.
It feels like Blade Runner. Musically and aesthetically, may have to pick this up.
@GrailUK You should check out The Last Night.
@Octane Holy cow! Blade Runner with hyper pixel art! SOLD! How the heck has this site not covered it???
@Yomerodes I looked it up and it made me sad since it sounded like a really cool game! Oh well
@GrailUK Because Microsoft has the launch exclusive shenanigans. I'm sure it'll come to PC at least. Maybe Switch and PS4 too.
@GrailUK also the superb Transition by The God Iain M Banks.
@Deanster101 I laughed so hard at that for some reason . Totally going to steal it
My mind is ready, now shut up and take my money
Still haven’t finished this on Xbox One X. Looks great from what I remember.
Day one I’m pumped to say the least!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey! That's the guy from the cover of Realpolitiks! They need to hire a different Polish actor to pose for these covers.
Yes! This is one of my most requested games. To say I'm happy with this news is an understatement. I absolutely loved Layers of Fear and I know from multiple sources this is even better. Can't wait!
@Mgene15 well that would be a f***ing dream come true, mate... I don’t think it so but I really hope so😌🙏🏽
@DrJiggle It's actually the famous Dutch actor Rutger Hauer.
@GrailUK i remember you saying in the past you're not a fan of horror games.I'd be wary of this one then as it'll likely scare the pants off you.Their previous game,Layers of Fear struck fear into me to the point I couldn't even bring myself to go to where it wanted me to go.I had to turn it off and come back to it later haha.I'm not one to be easily scared but man that game gave me the heebie jeebies.I loved it though,it was so well done. From everything I've read,Observer is even better but also even more scarier.
Rutger Hauer is in it? sold!
Feels like this game should be in VR, or at least would probably work really well in VR.
Also, Rutger Hauer.
@OorWullie I'm still tempted. Liked the atmosphere. Are you armed in the game? lol
I watched my friend play this on PC last year for a while and legit freaked me out. Glad to see it coming! I’ll be picking this one up for sure, and horror isn’t even my thing
@GrailUK I think you're armed only with the ability to hack folks minds. It's in those minds that the terror lurks haha.I'm not 100% sure on that but that's what I've gathered from the little I've read.Trying to avoid reading too much as I want to be surprised.Observer does seem to be more "unsettling" than scary though.Layers of Fear would play with you, draw you in and then give you the fright of your life. Scariest game I've ever played by far.
Very good game
That my dear friends is dutch actor Rutger Hauer, also known from Blade Runner. A fitting choice.
