Nintendo's got quite a slate of upcoming games. During last night's Nintendo Direct, we got some brand-new reveals for Splatoon 3, Mario Golf: Super Rush, The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD and the surprise return of Famicom Detective Club.
None of us expected its upcoming first-party releases to include DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power, but that's exactly what Nintendo's bringing on June 4th. Based on the Cartoon Network TV show, Nintendo issued this press release regarding the game:
Based on the hit Cartoon Network show, play as one of many classic DC superheroines like Batgirl, Supergirl and Wonder Woman as teenagers who must overcome high school, all while saving the city. Each of these superheroes has her own set of special abilities, like flight or gadgets, that can be used in battle. As your teenaged alter ego, explore Metropolis, show off your selfies from around the city on your in-game Superstapost account or rebuild a run-down part of the city.
Pre-orders have since gone live on the Switch eShop, available for £49.99 / €59.99 / $59.99.

Looks like not my cup of tea ...
Great game, for my PS2
This looks cute! I hope it is fun to play 😁
I honestly think it's going to surprise folk. Not my cup of tea, stylewise but the gameplay could be on point looking at it..
It's surprising all right, surprising they thought it was a good idea.
Wait, this is a first party game?
I was really confused why this received its own headline. Being published by Nintendo makes sense, though I have no idea how that deal came to be. Not exactly the Nintendo game I came to the Direct to see.
I really am surprised for this reveal, the cartoon series is funny, and hilarious, but is great with the heroes theme (specially when this cartoon show was developed for Lauren Faust, the same of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic).
Probably I will check more of this game ^^
I didn't realize this was published by Nintendo until I saw it on eshop. With Nintendo behind it, it's probably going to be a pretty good game. Since so many games seem targeted for boys, I think it's good they're making something for girls.
No plans to get this for myself. But I'm keeping an eye on this game, in case my 3 nieces get a Switch.
This is something I'll buy to spend time with my daughter (she is 5 and loves dc super girls). I see it as a game aimed at younger kids to get them into games and spending time with family
So Nintendo not only put shovelware in the direct, but they’re also publishing it? Wow. This game just looks so bad..
I'll just stick with Power Puff Girls.
Yh i saw this in the direct and was like, wait nintendo publishing it? As in the direct headline is showed nintendo as the publisher alrdy.
Man this is so bad hahaha this and miitopia are bassicly the games that scream yeah, we were impacted by covid and these were the games we could do in a year time.
Also lowkey gonna predict now, botw 2 2022.
Its not gonna be coming this year. Almost 100% sure of that, but thats okay. Unless botw 2 is a true zelda game wont get it anyways.
And screw skyward sword. Fundementally broken on first release as a game. (Not working as intended is broken, so yeah)
And not even mentioning how boring the game is.
Don't know what you guys are talking about. Clearly the best announcement, amirite? =P
Also, Batgirl is not doing a good job of hiding her identity. She reveals her name straight away in the trailer.
It's strange that Nintendo as publishing this, but I also can't find any immediate info about who's developing it on Nintendo's sites.
My immediate impression when I saw the game was that WayForward would be the developers, but I don't know it could just be Warner Bros. Interactive or something?
It being based on a Cartoon network show explains the art style. Not something I would buy personaly but I hope those who do enjoy it.
@tonyp1987 Your avatar is awsome!
The artstyle is pretty nice but it’s just not a full price game, come on. It’s Wii era shovelware.
The art style and teen setting definitely isn't for me; I'm all for games that portray females in a positive light, but I'd much prefer at least young adult versions of these characters with story hooks that go beyond "Lol Shopping and save the world!" Then again, this is based on a show, so they can't stay too far from it. I do hope the target audience enjoys it at least.
I think it'd be cool to see what they'd do with a game with characterizations established in the DCAU shows that ran in the 90s and early 2000s.
@tonyp1987 are that boobs on your profile picture?!
In other words, it really allows free roam and related side activities. And featuring a vibrant cast you can always expect from Faust works. I haven't even seen the show yet, but I'm so wishlisting this.
@Tyranexx the source franchise comes from some of the people who made sleepovers and schoolpaper gossip into epic adventures and social satire. You may be underestimating what can be done with high school casts and shopping plots even in the west now (I mean, anime has gone without saying for decades).
@BrintaPap yes it's from an anime called senran kagura
@Kalmaro part of one of the best directs ever.
@Tobiaku thanks lol
@WoomyNNYes Yes, it's good that they're making something cute and simple like girls are, so girls can play on the gameboy switch too... /s
@Tyranexx
Arkham was fairly close to to the characterizations of the DCAU at a least for the first two games, a shame we aren’t likely to get anything like that again for a long time, that Gotham knights and suicide squad game seem rooted in their bland modern comics and films.
@tonyp1987 when my daughter see the add eventually ill never here the end of it.
definitely isn't being developed first party lol
Wait, first party? So nintendo will have published a marvel game AND a DC game during the switch era? Wow. This doesn't look like my thing but I absolutely loved ultimate alliance 3 soooo... I'll check out reviews before I pass additional judgment.
My daughter went insane after watching the trailer
$59.99... for this?? Oof...! Not sure about that. I’ll wait for the reviews to come in.
@WoomyNNYes
"Since so many games seem targeted for boys, I think it's good they're making something for girls."
Because girls don't want to and can't play as boys and vice versa~!
Just glad it isn’t lego. Seriously, F lego.
Will get this once it is cheap. Not a DC nerd. Glad to see more games aimed at female (albeit younger) gamers. This would have made my whole day (well, more if it had been marvel but still) back when I was little. For now it did make me smile.
In the livestream there seemed to be quite a bit of negativity towards this game (I will admit, I made a few remarks too). I mean sure, most likely everyone watching wasn't going to be interested in this, but c'mon, we all played games like this when we were kids, right?
I distinctly remember playing a Tangled game and a How to Train Your Dragon game on the Wii that were both awesome. Maybe not my cup of tea now, but they're some happy memories.
I’m glad to see Nintendo pursue some IPs aimed squarely at girls. Not everything needs to be quirky indie or serious AAA crap. Another example with the glut of poor horse games out there I always thought the N could steal BotW horse mechanics and whip up something for girls infinitely more polished.
The show is great, and I say this as someone who never understood why there are so many Bronies. Will play this game with my daughters if it turns out alright.
@TheUltimateFaker I feel the same way whenever I see grown-@$$ adults complaining about the shows on Cartoon Network. Like, calm down guys. Sometimes you're not that target audience and that's okay, let the kids have their fun. Sheesh.
Weirdest thing about this trailer was hearing Tara Strong as Batgirl using a completely different voice than the one I grew up hearing.
@judaspete Agreed, licensed games are always a crapshoot but even though I'm not interested I do hope it turns out well for the people who are.
50 QUID!!!! I’ll need to see more of this game to be convinced to get it.
Japan seems to be more interested in this than No More Heroes 3.
When I saw this on the Direct, my first thoughts were somewhere on the neighborhood of "WTF?!". But the more I watched, the more I thought "hey this looks like it could turn out to be something akin to a good Lego game". You know, a fun, light romp for the young ones... and the not so young. I enjoyed a few of the Lego games before their formula got too repetitive, so I'll keep an eye on this one, just in case.
For the crying babies.you dont like it dont buy it.whinning ain't going to change anything
Just as much as my comment aint.lol
I’m definitely interested, but it oddly puts me off. We’ll have to see if it’s worth it.
@nhSnork A good point. To be fair, I haven't watched the show and know little about it outside of advertisements; I'm basing my impressions off of what was shown in yesterday's Direct. I do hope the game exceeds my expectations and proves itself to be more than a cashgrab, but in my experience games that tie in with popular shows (in the West, anyway) can be hit or miss.
I was once its main target audience, but even back in the day I'm not sure if I would've gotten into this one. And I consider myself a mid-level DC nerd!
@SalvorHardin True, the Arkham games do come somewhat close! I'd love if those would make the Switch as I haven't played most of them. The only one I've played was Arkham City: Armored Edition on the Wii U a few years ago. I did watch a no commentary playthrough of Arkham Asylum to get up to speed beforehand.
I had an animation style more like the DCAU cartoons in mind, but I'd take the whole Arkham suite!
So when people complain about lack of original new games coming from Nintendo, are we now going to count this lackluster looking game as one of the originals?
@VoidofLight The gameplay looks solid. It's the visuals that are not great, but it's based on a TV show and to be fair, it looks like the show.
@Deltath a game could look like it plays great, and yet be crap. This game just screams shovelware, mainly because it is..
Looks like a 3DS game but the content looks good. Could be a fun game for the right fans.
This is so on point for my kids (ages 10-3), literally a potential killer app for their set. Next do a proper She-Ra game and I will have endless gratitude for producing gaming content that perfectly aligns their interests (outside timeless Nintendo IP).
@VoidofLight But by that same assertion, a game can look like it plays well and actually play well and it can also look bad and be good or any other variation. If anything, you disproved your own point because you've now firmly established that you can't judge a game properly just by looking at it.
If this has split screen co-op, sandbox, more characters and tons of villians i might be interested, but thats a big might.
However I think countless 90s era shows and new shows can benefit from a ben 10 power trip ish game type.
I feel happy a game like this is made even if it might not be for me because maybe we will get more content from our favorite licenses.
First party? As in people who work at Nintendo and could have been working on something else, made this?!?!?!
Honestly thought it was a port of a mobile game.
I do think it looks good for the 6-12 girly-girl tween crowd like several of those 3DS games but I just can't believe it's Nintendo first party. Hopefully it wasn't Monolith making this instead of XC3, or whoever should have been completing nearly complete Pikmin 4.
I suppose if it was the Pushmo people then only @KateGray will be upset.
Not something I would play, however, I know for a fact my seven-year-old niece would enjoy this game.
@jump
It's clearly a reskin. Nintendo had a school sim / super power game in the works, and given Nintendo is publishing and not Marvel, Disney gave them ALL OF THE MONEY to slap their IP on it gambling for a percent based ROIC. Given that lowers Nintendo risk to zero and only costs a fraction of the profits, they obviously jumped at it.
I mean, watch the trailer again but pretending that it's a cute cat girl with super powers talking instead of bat girl. It just OOOZZZES Nintendo.
CHEERLEADER!
SO AND SO!
WHATSERFACE!
THE UGLY ONE!
I wish it was based on the pre-Faust DC Super Hero Girls. That series had better characters, better humor, better examples of dealing with issues, and it had the fresh idea of putting a bunch of popular villains in the role of heroes. The new series feels like a cross between DCSHS and MLP, and the characters are crass, rude, simplistic, and non-charismatic.
People coming here in droves to complain...almost as “shocking” as this game’s announcement.
Idk it might be interesting though
