I'm grateful that it keeps the good old frame rate of the SNES original. Wish it was more common to double the frame rate instead of cutting it in half while acting like a nice remake has been created. I've used one of my vouchers and can't wait to play this in couple weeks!
I'm playing Mario Wonder, Kingdom Eighties, BOTW, Rocket League, and most excitedly Tears of the Kingdom. Someone who goes by Mulberry got an infinite Zonai wing, and now KingX and others have videos about it (can't remember the name of the guy who has the well done guide on YouTube). I'm really looking forward to having a wing that lasts longer than 75 seconds! But of course TOTK is incredibly generously packed with things to do, so I just spent about 5 hours exploring the depths, then doing some shrines, then flying around the central plains, and never got close to Eventide Island or trying to entangle a weapon to a shield and all the stuff you have to do to get a good, lasting, wing.
@The_Pixel_King I've heard it runs at 30fps on Switch versus the 60 of the Deck, plus they apparently need to work on the load times on Switch. So if 30fps vs 60fps is important to someone, then they've got to get Dave on something else.
I look up games on how long to beat to get an idea of how long they are, but for games like this, Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the Wild, and the Kingdom games (Kingdom New Lands, Kingdom Two Crowns, etc) I need a website like "how long to enjoy" or something. Mario Wonder is easily a perfect score game for me. I've only played about 5 to 10 hours so far, but the music, graphics, level design, sound design (little instruments get added to a song when you WALK!), multi-player (they found a way to make the Mario Maker 2 races not have lag and suck!), extremely cute and interesting animations, and the rich, queenly quality of the whole game make it one for the ages. Amazing how it brings back the joy of Yoshi's Island, Mario 3, and many others. I've been playing Sonic Superstars and had about 15 minutes trying to beat one level (7 or 8 minutes on the not fun boss). There isn't 5 seconds that isn't fun in Mario Wonder! I had to play some of the 4 and 5 star levels many times, but it was a fun challenge, not like work (in some Sonic Superstars levels I feel obligated to complete a boss fight even though part of me wants to quit and turn off the game without completing the level and thereby saving my progress). In Mario Wonder I'm reluctant to progress! I don't want it to end!
@nocdaes I've tried to do that, but eventually get too tempted by a good match! I can see why people like this game, and can also understand why others bounce off it.
Got it a week or so ago and have been enjoying it. I like the song, graphics, and gameplay. It's nothing like Grindstone, Flipon, Tetris Effect, or other full games, but it's fun as a basic and simple package. Interesting how YouTube launched this game into high sales orbit. I think games like Mario Maker, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and others get increased sales due to all the free advertising of youtubers and twitchers.
@dugan I like that. And it reminds me of how Tears of the Kingdom caused beloved hot cups of dark roast tieguanyin to spend nights shivering and alone on the kitchen table!
Tons of TOTK, BOTW, and Rocket League. Also completely loving Super Mario Ganesha (the elephant does remove a lot of barriers!). Robbin Cove (or whatever the level is called) just blew me away with how fun and joyful it is. Mosa Lina is a fun, creative, one screen platformer I've been enjoying on steam. Oh, and I'm head over heals for Kingdom Eighties. The amazing music, superb gameplay, and awesome visuals (love the redwoods, Frank Lloyd Wright architecture with the Marin County building in level 2) add up to another stellar Kingdom game! It doesn't run perfectly on Switch, but it still is great on Switch.
This game is awesome. It's great to see more levels being added, especially classic levels. I do wish they could lock the frame rate to 60, but it's very fun and playable (most people would probably not have any complaints!). Jelly Car is a gem on Switch!
@GregamanX it does have long levels and frustrating boss fights. I will say that so far the boss fights aren't very frustrating, just somewhat. But that's not good, lol. I highly doubt I would've bought this if it came out right after Mario Wonder, which I know I will absolutely love.
Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild. I'm amazed at how much I'm enjoying both of these, back and forth. Just got the master sword in BOTW (like 6th time I've done that). And just got the shirt that let's you lose rupees instead of hearts in TOTK (2nd time getting that). Amazing Games!
Also playing Dome Keeper on steam deck (should definitely come to Switch sometime soon, I hope).
Also: Rocket League, Gley Lancer, Pikmin 1 and 4, Arceus, Dordogne (incredible music, visuals, everything), Mario Wonder (whenever I'm at the store. Had fun in multi-player with a random customer), and No More Heroes 3 (good example of a game I hope I can play on next console with higher frame rate).
Are any of these reviews for the Switch version? Seems like everything so far is PS5. I'm curious if it keeps to it's 60fps target on Switch. Also curious if the load times are sucky. I'm hoping it's locked at 60 and I'll enjoy it on my Switch!
@Vil I'd happily wait 6 years if the next Pokémon game needs it to be as awesome as Tears of the Kindgom is. I just keep playing Arceus since I love it's gameplay and it has a fairly well frame paced 30fps.
@Vyacheslav333 I think it's Nintendo world report who has a YouTube review complaining about how they can gets a nice high resolution with this game in emulation (they show video of it at 60fps), yet this is at like 240p. I like Atooi and might get this even though I have it on 3DS, but horror is my least favorite genre.
Some of the ones I recommend are Super Blood Hockey, Caverns of Mars Recharged, Thunder Dragon 2, Storm Boy (choppy on Switch, but it made me cry), Dezatopia, Rogue Heroes, Smile Basic 4 (has awesome shoot em ups and other free to download creations), Grand Mountain Adventure (awesome relaxing top down skiing game, 60fps), Action SuperCross and Elastomania 2 (Nintendolife reviewed the first Elastomania, but not these also excellent related games), Donut Dodo, Timberman the big adventure (awesome platformer), Graze Counter GM (wonderful shoot em up), Galacticon, Gunpig, X Multiply, Brotato, Star Hunter DX, VoidScrappers, Libble Rabble, Dusk 82, Aleste Collection, Mecha Ritz Steel Rondo, Annalynn, Super Impossible Road, 12 orbits, and Breakforcist Battle.
@Rkulaski I can't find caveboy in the eshop. I've enjoyed Ghoulboy, but not sure if that's what you're talking about. Oh, or the all time classic Cave Story, but I think nintendolife has reviewed that one.
Sounds like an interesting game. I'd probably try it if it were locked at 60fps or at 120fps. Maybe it will be playable on Super Switch 2. I miss the old days when all the musou games ran at 60.
I also hope they turn fzero 99 into a single, well, add on a single player experience. I've also been wishing for SNES Pilotwings to be redone with these higher res, still 60fps, type of graphics. I love Pilotwings 64 on NSO with it's mostly 60fps graphics. More Pilotwings please!
I'm continuing to adore Tears of the Kingdom. They've crafted such a wonderful world to play in. I love the way the central plain is so much improved with Lookout Landing(incredible town music!) and the lack of guardians opening it up to relaxed and fun exploration. I've created an elevator railing aircraft and flown it out of the depths. I've spent an hour exploring just one cave. I've marveled at the amazing and lengthy shrine song/music. It's just the best game ever made!
Also playing Rocket League, Pacman 99, Tetris Effect, Harmful Park (on steam deck emulation), BOTW, Mario Golf Super Rush, Party Golf (where the heck is Party Golf 2 with online mulitplayer??), and Lunistice. Oh yeah, and I've started over in Pikmin 4. I love all the Pikmin games! and wish they were 60fps, lol
@Joeynator3000 I wish there was splitscreen multi-player for Mario 35. Just 2 player would be great, but 3 and 4 way splitscreen would be awesome. Add in a couple single player modes and I think it'd be well worth buying. I miss Mario 35 and will definitely miss the human mode of Pacman 99.
I've been playing this on steam for a couple months and it's awesome. I really love all the Kingdom games and play them on like every device, so this is a no brainer for me. Hope it runs very smoothly on my OLED Switch! I'll buy it for Switch either way though! Been playing Kingdom New Lands on Switch with these new headphones and my god the music keeps blowing me away. Exquisite songs in all the Kingdom games, but New Lands is number 1 in my opinion.
I'd love to be able to play 30fps Switch games at 60fps or 120fps. That would be a dream come true! I really wish BOTW and TOTK were locked at 60fps or higher. Even 40fps or 50fps would be a very nice improvement if the new Nintendo console can set it's screen to those refresh rates ala Steam Deck.
@geshem the smoother the better! Maybe someday I'll change my name to 240 frames please... But with Steam Deck I've learned that I also like 45fps and 50fps etc.
@geshem Yeah, I saw frame rate drops into the 50s in Switch gameplay on YouTube, so bought Cocoon on Steam. Looking forward to playing it! And hopefully they patch the Switch version!
I'm playing TOTK, the Commodore 64 hidden gems 4 game pack, episode 1 racer, Dusk, Dusk 84, Atari 50, Tetris 99, F zero 99, Pacman 99, and Mario Golf Super Rush. On laptop and Steam deck I'm playing Rocket League, Cocoon, Father Forgive Me, Truxton, and Slap Fight.
I bought this and like it. I've only played each game for a little while, but the devs did a good job bringing these old Commodore 64 games to Switch. The menus are pleasing, there are options, save states, and the games run at 60fps (I assume they did on original hardware...). I hope they bring more, especially the ones considered the greatest as mentioned by many commenters on this page
@Raffles I can't remember the YouTube video name, but there is a very interesting one about frame rates and motion blur. He uses a very high frame rate camera to show motion blur on his LG C2 vs his Sony high refresh rate CRT computer monitor. The Sony blows the C2 out of the water. He estimates that the Sony is roughly equivalent to 900fps. It's a great video. It made me realize that motion blur is one of the things that gets me wishing for higher and higher frame rates. Anyways, I could type about frame rate stuff for way too long!
@Raffles I almost didn't get a deck because the screen is only 60fps. I'm glad I did though because I've learned how nice 40, 45, 50, 51, 55fps can be when you set the screen's refresh rate to them. I don't think I'll get any other gaming thing until switch 2 comes out. ROG ally sounds good, but I'm not in need of it. I can also just play games at 144fps on my laptop.
BallisticNG is so good! I play it on my laptop and steam deck and absolutely love it. wipEout is my favorite racing game and I was excited to play this close take off on it on my Switch. This sucks! Hopefully we'll get it at 120fps on the Super Switch!
I know it's very unlikely, but I'd still love to get wipeout 64 on Switch with the same enhancements that Doom 64, Turok, and Episode 1 Racer got (higher res and locked at 60fps). I can easily imagine wipeout 64 being my favorite racing game on Switch if it got caringly brought over (maybe even a 64 mode like fzero 99!).
I'm always playing Rocket League, but also still really loving Tears of the Kingdom after about 300 hours and starting over when Nintendo patched out my beloved freedom to use elevator railings any way I please (I'm on 1.0 playing on cartridge now). Also playing Pokémon Legends Arceus, Pikmin, Advance Wars 1 + 2 (really wish it ran at same frame rate as every single other older version of the game, but I've bought it digitally and physically to help hopefully get more Wars games from Nintendo in the future), Pacman 99, Fzero 99, Gynoug, Mario Maker 2, BOTW, Lunistice, Akka Arrh, Zero Wing, and Marble It Up Ultra.
I just watched the MVG video where he shows his jailbroken OLED Switch running BOTW at a locked 60fps. It is amazing to see! It also makes me hopeful that the next Nintendo console can do 120fps. I personally don't care about battery life (I'm fine with plugging in my Steam Deck) and at least would like to be able to prioritize frame rate while cranking up the fans. I remember having a modded PSP and being fascinated at how Wipeout Pulse could more reliably lock at 60fps while plugged in. Also, 720p looks perfectly fine on Switch and when docked into my small 32inch 4k TV. I used to have a 48 inch OLED, and 720p looked great on it too. The main thing was having motion interpolation and black frame insertion turned on. Those features transformed games into beautiful visual sights to behold. Thankfully my little 32 inch TV has those features, so I'm always boosting 30fps Switch titles up to a smooth motion experience that looks like 60fps.
Trombone Champ, Samba de Amigo, Tears of the Kingdom, Rocket League, F zero 99, Pac Man 99, Kingdom 2 Crowns, DonPachi, Battle Garegga, and Saturn Bomberman.
This game is a joy! Been having tons of fun playing it. I've also been playing Pacman 99 a bunch since I found out the online is closing down in October. I assume I'll still be able to enjoy the single player stuff after October since I bought the DLC kind of stuff with different skins and music. Watched a YouTube tips video, then promptly got 3rd place, then my first Pac One. Very fun stuff!
@SBandy1 They've done it with some games, I think when they went from DS to 3DS. I hope you're correct though. Would be sweet to have 1000 year door at 60fps on Switch and 120fps on whatever the next Nintendo console is called.
@Bunkerneath Because the YouTube video of the direct is 60fps. I could see that the Tomb Raider remakes were targeting 60fps, that the awesome Mario RPG remake is locked at 60fps, that fzero 99 is 60fps, and that this 1000 year door remake is 30fps. Definitely true that many people don't particularly notice the difference between 30 and 60. Then there's people like me who remember noticing what every new Gamecube and PS 2 game ran at when I first saw them on my TV.
I guess Nintendo had to do something to compete with Konami releasing an old PS 2 game running at half the original frame rate. Congrats Ninty! I seriously hope they fix the frame rate before release, or quadruple it for a simultaneous Switch 2 release. 1000 Year Door at a higher frame rate would be pretty indeed!
Loved the direct, but it does appear that Nintendo might have cut 1000 year door's frame rate in half... GameCube and Wii games that run at 60fps don't need much. Mario Galaxy looks and plays great on Switch. I could be wrong, hopefully 1000 year door will release on Switch at 60fps (and maybe even 120 on the next system!). It's such a great game I'd hate to see it get an origami frame rate : /
@LilyGoMEOW Yeah, every programmer has a different skill level. I'd like to think even not too wonderful programmers could get a game locked to 30fps or 60fps (maybe at a low resolution) on the upcoming Nintendo console. We'll see...
I'm glad I waited for a patch to improve performance before buying this. Once I saw patch after patch released with no frame rate improvement I gave up on it. Hopefully with the next console this will be enjoyable for someone like me. It would be exciting if they could get Scarlet/Violet up to 60fps or higher on their next system. I really think a fast playing Pokémon game would be super addictive. I still enjoy Arceus every once in a while.

Re: Mini Review: Suika Game - Viral Sensation 'Watermelon Game' Is A Ripe Little Puzzler

I can easily imagine wipeout 64 being my favorite racing game on Switch if it got caringly brought over (maybe even a 64 mode like fzero 99!).
Re: PSA: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom News Channel Giving Out Free In-Game Items
The news Channel would have to give out infinite elevator railings or 30 extra frames per second to get me to update my game of TOTK!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 23rd)
Re: Nintendo Reportedly Briefed Activision On 'Switch 2' Back In 2022
I just watched the MVG video where he shows his jailbroken OLED Switch running BOTW at a locked 60fps.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 16th)
Trombone Champ, Samba de Amigo, Tears of the Kingdom, Rocket League, F zero 99, Pac Man 99, Kingdom 2 Crowns, DonPachi, Battle Garegga, and Saturn Bomberman.
Re: F-ZERO 99: Tips & Tricks - How To Win Races, Everything You Need To Know
This game is a joy!
Re: Early Tech Analysis Suggests Paper Mario's Thousand-Year Door Remaster Might Run At 30FPS
@sanderev I would never claim to be unbiased! I love high frame rates when playing games.
Re: Early Tech Analysis Suggests Paper Mario's Thousand-Year Door Remaster Might Run At 30FPS
@SBandy1 They've done it with some games, I think when they went from DS to 3DS.
I hope you're correct though. Would be sweet to have 1000 year door at 60fps on Switch and 120fps on whatever the next Nintendo console is called.
Re: Early Tech Analysis Suggests Paper Mario's Thousand-Year Door Remaster Might Run At 30FPS
Re: Early Tech Analysis Suggests Paper Mario's Thousand-Year Door Remaster Runs At 30FPS
Re: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer
Loved the direct, but it does appear that Nintendo might have cut 1000 year door's frame rate in half... GameCube and Wii games that run at 60fps don't need much. Mario Galaxy looks and plays great on Switch. I could be wrong, hopefully 1000 year door will release on Switch at 60fps (and maybe even 120 on the next system!). It's such a great game I'd hate to see it get an origami frame rate : /
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Version 2.0.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@link3710 Good to know. Thank you for sharing your experience with the game.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Version 2.0.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@LilyGoMEOW Yeah, every programmer has a different skill level. I'd like to think even not too wonderful programmers could get a game locked to 30fps or 60fps (maybe at a low resolution) on the upcoming Nintendo console. We'll see...
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Version 2.0.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
