I saw a youtube video showing that this runs locked at 60fps, then saw that a couple Digital Foundry fellows contributed to the game, then went and bought it. It's so strange, and I really like it! I've never played CDi or any games like this one. I like the strange looking animation sequences, the gameplay, the music, it's really a nice package. And it does feel like a relic of the 1990s, but tuned and improved.
I'm looking forward to playing this once tye preloaded game unlocks on my Switch. After watching the Digital Foundry video I'm mildly regretting buying it for Switch. Sounds like it would run locked at 90 on my Deck, and 180fps on my laptop. That would be something to see! Maybe I'll double dip once it goes on sale on Steam...
I want NES Remix on Switch, and agree with all the posts about Stretchmo, Pushmo, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Yoshi's Wooley World, and other being ported to Switch. But the 30fps games like Twilight Princess and Wind Waker need boosted the same way Skyward Sword was up to 60fps.
@MeloMan NES Remix Maker would be awesome, horrible! Just like Mario Maker It would be fun to watch youtubers play kaizo NES Remix levels. Mario Maker 1 and 2 (and 3DS) are some of my all time favorite games, so I'd love to see this come to Switch. Also add SNES, Gameboy, and GBA games to the mix (heck, Genesis, and PC Engine too).
Interesting coincidence, I just got this game on steam a few days ago and played it for the first time today. It's quite a fun N64 style 3d platformer with great music, fun controls, and (so far) well designed levels and worlds. It runs locked at 90 frames per second on my Deck and looks amazing in motion. I'd say it's safe to assume it'll run locked at 60fps on Switch and will feel great to play that way too.
It makes me think of Lunistice and Spyro and Toree, as well as Super Kiwi 64.
I found out what happened at around 6 minutes. The player switched on the fly to original graphics, which I guess also switched to 30fps, then the player in the video switched back to modern or remastered graphics. Cool!
Yeah, all this 60fps footage really makes me want to get this for Switch. It also makes me want more PS1 games given this treatment! Seeing this, Doom 64, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, the Turok games, Pilotwings 64 on NSO, etc really makes me want to play a bunch of other Playstation and N64 games at 60fps. I guess there's not a market to remaster most of them like this, but it would be nice.
Looks beautiful! It's also kinda strange how at about 6 minutes a light turns on, a wolf attacks, and the frame rate seems to drop until the wolf is killed and the lights turn back off! Seeing the 60fps footage really makes me want to play this on my Switch though!
@HeadPirate Interesting, I don't know much, especially about the cost of bulk purchased screens. I'd love it if Nintendo could benefit from the fact that Valve is buying a good number of 90hz OLED screens and include those in a refresh or deluxe version of Super Switch 2. Even without VRR, 90 fps on an OLED is just SO NICE!
@HeadPirate I also want to say that people can get an awesome 180hz VRR screen for around $100. I know not many people buy them, but they're for sale. I don't like 7 foot 60hz TV type stuff. I'm excited about high frame rates and smaller screens!
@HeadPirate Yes, all that makes total sense. Sometimes when I'm asking for 120fps I'm basically begging Nintendo to have a screen capable of it, so someone like Jeff Minter can put an awesome psychedelic arcade game on their system that can hit 120 (like his PS5 stuff does). I probably should accept that a mass market Target, Walmart, and Amazon selling console isn't going to have what I love. When I play on Deck I lower every setting, lower resolution, do whatever is needed to try to lock the frame rate at 90fps. That's what looks best and plays best, to me. But I'm a high maintainence frame rate jerk, lol!
@smoreon I appreciate what you're saying. I just see Ori, Deadcells, Wreckfest, Kingdom Eighties and so many other light, older, or 2d games running locked at 90fps on OLED Deck and can't help but want similar smoothness on Super Switch 2. Series S has many games that run at 120, so maybe at least when docked (assuming the next Nintendo is handheld and dockable) it can run some stuff at a high frame rate. We'll see!
And I do realize that OLED Deck costs over $500, so Nintendo might feel they have to go with a 60hz screen. If that's the case, then I really hope they don't rule out a deluxe model, or OLED refresh, just something that could have a 90hz or 120hz screen later down the road. Valve refreshed their Deck and added 90hz, so it's possible for other companies to do something similar.
@HeadPirate Thanks for the info. I'll be bummed if it's just 60hz like a TV from 1985. My phone has 120hz, my laptop has 144hz (180hz if I connect my monitor), and of course my OLED Deck has 90hz (and higher if I connect it to a monitor or good TV). I'll still play Nintendo exclusives on Super Switch, but I guess everything else I'd have to get on Steam. I hope Nintendo starts supporting high frame rates! We'll find out soon enough!
This wait is especially agonizing for me because I want higher frame rates so badly, especially on a Nintendo system! Even if Nintendo doesn't include graphics options or release any games that run at 90 or 120 or 144fps, at least make it possible for other developers to do it! I don't want all the lighter games running perfectly at 90fps on OLED Deck, while the Super Switch versions max out at 60fps because Nintendo has an old fashioned screen on their 2024 handheld. Oh well, probably find out soon enough!
@Dpullam Interesting. I already had a good collection built up on Steam before getting a deck. This makes me realize Nintendo should use their eshop like Steam, keep everyone's bought games and let them access them with new and ever more powerful devices. I love seeing how a game runs on deck versus on my laptop. I'm basically seeing not having backwards compatibility as throwing away tons of customers, instead of embracing them and encouraging them to keep buying and playing games from Nintendo's ongoing, continuous eshop. But they also need to fix it so it doesn't crash and freeze up and run at 1 frame every 2 or 3 seconds!
@Dpullam It's so awesome. I hope the next Nintendo console is basically exactly like the OLED Deck! Maybe add variable refresh rate and bump it up to 120hz though! Seriously, I can't imagine anyone getting the OLED Deck and not liking it.
@Ooyah Do you know the frame rate of Legend of Grimrock? I've watched all these YouTube videos of switch gameplay and can't tell if it's 30fps or 60fps...
I've been messing around with no power builds in Tears of the Kingdom. I'm usually slapping a few fans on a few elevator rails and flying around Hyrule's beautiful sky until the fans despawn, but no power (or resistance) builds are too fascinating. Also just exploring and enjoying the game generally.
On Switch I'm also playing BOTW, Rocket League (yes it's way better at 144fps on my laptop, but I still enjoy it on Switch), Panzer Dragoon Remake (hope they get all the other PD games out soon!), Unpacking, Zero Fire, Melty Blood, Golfinite (lovely simple golf game with nice music), God of Light Remastered (amazing soundtrack and good basic gameplay), Jett Rider, Mario Maker 2, Advance Wars 1 + 2 reboot (I love the expansive shop Hachi has in this remake!), WarioWare Move It!, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (amazing improvement on Fitness Boxing!), Marble It Up Ultra, Mario Golf Super Rush, and Puzzle Battler Mirai.
On Deck OLED I've been enjoying Rise of the Tomb Raider (seeing Lara start up a flare in a cave at 90fps is pretty incredible!)(no, I can't keep the game up at 90, but it looks great), Mr. Run and Jump (beautiful at 90hz, and quite a fun game!), qomp (pretty fun, and I played this at 144fps on laptop, not on Deck), and Risk of Rain 2 (plays very well at 65 to 90fps).
Also drinking a Wuyi, Big Red Robe, this week (and enjoying drying out trails).
As long as they don't include deneuvo or enigma or any other frame rate reducing and mod-blocking software cancer then I'm excited for Okami 2 and other sequels! And double or quadruple (in Okami's case) the frame rate for the sequels too, please!
Yeah, if they fix multi-player that would be a more pleasant gaming experience! I'd rather they just keep adding to this release, but since that seems highly unlikely I'm excited for Mario Maker 3 as soon as possible (launch title for Switch 2!)!
@Edd-O Yep, that one. I guess I lump Gradius and Life Force together, so that collection feels like more than 2 Gradius games to me. I'd like to have all those games you mentioned on Switch. I sometimes play the psp collections on Deck, used to have 2 of them physically, and still have the gradius collection digitally on Vita (but don't have the system anymore...).
@Sisilly_G What you're saying makes sense, but I'm really hoping for global frame rate improvements! Boost mode on PS4 pro is an example. I also hope for frame rate doubling like Microsoft did with their awesome backwards compatibility program. I also hope for seemingly constant improvements to performance ala Steamdeck updates. Knowing that Valve is constantly trying to help improve frame rates on numerous games really makes me appreciate owning their stuff. It's like the opposite of Capcom and other companies including anti-mod and anti-piracy software that reduces performance.
@Edd-O There's already a good Gradius collection on Switch, but I'm ready for volume 2! And I'm more than ready for a Parodius collection. And Bomberman, there are so many great old bomberman games that are still fun to play.
@Servbot_EJ I wish Parodius and Twinbee could get the same love that Cotton has gotten. Imagine well done remakes of Parodius and Twinbee. They'd be awesome Switch games! I'd love to have the arcade and home ports also though.
Oh, I'm also playing the Mario vs Donkey Kong demo. It is so good! 60fps, mostly quick loading, great controls, amazing music, and that classic, excellent GBA gameplay. Can't wait to play through the full game several times, and speed run it!
Tears of the Kingdom continues to be my number 1 most played game. Recently completed the floating coliseum, which was really fun. I'm almost always playing it with motion interpolation (old school smart TV frame generation, or fluid motion frames) and I'm frequently amazed at how beautiful the game looks. I keep sages turned off to minimize drops from 30fps, which helps the motion interpolation keep it looking like 60fps. Anyways, I don't think I'll ever get tired of building things, exploring, and simply enjoying this version of Hyrule. Also playing Advance Wars 1 + 2 reboot camp, Fire Emblem Engage, Fire Emblem Fates (on 3DS), Zero Fire the awesome M2 compilation on Switch, Mario Maker 2, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (I want tons of other games added to Fitness Boxing! Boxing with Yoshimitsu, or Link, or Samus, or Mario, or Wario!, or Andy and Sami and Max from Advance Wars!, Falcon Punch!, etc. Also playing on Deck, enjoying Parodius, San Fransisco Rush the Rock (the Midway GameCube compilation runs at 60fps and is lots of fun!), Roadwarden, The Gunk (really lovely game that I can get up to 90fps, but still looks great at lower frame rates too), etc. Also, Rocket League all the time on laptop and on Switch.
I'm playing my favorite game quite a bit. I recently build an aircraft and flew out of the depths for the third time. It took a few tries, but was satisfying to finally craft something that was fairly easy to fly basically straight up and out. I also discovered a very small spot in the depths that has strange music. It is at -0891, 0200, -0538 near Gustaf Canyon Mine. I have this sense that I discovered something in the game, which is really cool.
I'm also playing a fair amount of Breath of the Wild. I'm looking for something, but also just enjoying going around exploring, fighting, and puzzling out Koroks.
From watching symbalily (Amber) I've realized part of why I love BOTW and TOTK so much. They are relaxing. It is just simply relaxing and engaging to jog around or fly around Hyrule.
I play other games too though. On Switch I'm playing Advance Wars 1 + 2, Super Kiwi 64, Toodee and Topdee, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (I'm liking this quite a bit!), Dodo Peak, Fire Emblem Engage (finally got it and love the music and gameplay), Jett Rider, Chip's Challenge (love it even though it's a choppy Lynx game, all Lynx games were and are choppy), and Light It Up.
On laptop I'm playing Rocket League and Palworld.
On Deck I'm playing Distance, Zenohell, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, Roboquest, Kingdom games, and Dead Estate.
I also got a 180hz monitor and have been surprised how many games my laptop can run at 180fps. I really really like high frame rates and smooth gameplay. I'm really hoping Nintendo's next system can do high frame rates!
Love this game and all the frequent updates it gets. Can't to see what the dancing is like (probably just make the game even funnier and more endearing!).
@KingMike Maybe, but I'd honestly say that developing an open world game for Switch is quite difficult. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom show what's possible, but those are made by incredibly skilled programmers! And TOTK drops below 30fps quite a bit, especially if you use the sages or turn on ultrahand... and it has loading pauses. Still an amazing programming accomplishment though!
@Poodlestargenerica I'm hoping and assuming the new console will use a nicer LCD than the Switch. My sort of higher end LCD tv looks closer to OLED than original Switch LCD. Still, OLED is awesome, so I'm also already looking forward to an OLED revision model of Switch 2!
I like OLED a lot, but my LCD TV looks really good. I think this isn't too big a deal. Of course my big question is what hz the screen is. It would be a huge bummer if my old mid-range phone has a higher refresh rate than the new Nintendo, especially since I almost never game on my phone and always want to game on console. Hopefully this reported LCD can do 120hz.
@sketchturner What about the music? I remember being amazed at all the unique tracks, and how catchy they were (in DK 94). I've enjoyed Donkey Kong 94 and this GBA game, but don't remember too much, which I guess is good since I'm definitely planning to get this new remake.
I hope there's no legal battle. Just make the best games you can and don't worry about imitators. All resources should go into making games better. Having just played Palworld a little while I've got to say I don't think Nintendo has to worry about being outclassed in quality. I love that Palworld runs at 60 to 125fps on my laptop, but I've gotten so used to how Link holds his posture, how he moves, how nice all that is, and my character in Palworld looks and moves sorta badly. It makes it hard to get lost in the game, which happens every time I play BOTW or TOTK. I also like the way my character moves in Arceus, it's just not as nice as Link.
@Thirteen1355 Yeah, I guess I could. I still haven't ever emulated Wii U, 3DS, or Switch. I've got no problem with people doing what they want, it's just not for me (yet).
I got it today, but only downloaded it and haven't tried it yet. The IGN review was what convinced me to give it a go. My first thought is that I wish I could get Nintendo games on PC so they could all run at higher than just 60fps, or 30fps, or 20 to 30 in Violet and Scarlet's case.
I ordered the physical edition so I can hopefully play Over Horizon on Switch sometime in 2025... Well, I hope the new system comes out by then and my old Switch cart will just work in it (without needing internet or updates or anything).
From my small, anecdotal perspective it seems like Prince of Persia isn't doing well. None of my rando Switch friends are playing it. Of course most of them came from posting their friend codes online to play Advance Wars 1 + 2, Rocket League, Switch Sports, and Mario Wonder. And I kept checking the best selling top 30 on the U.S. eshop and it wasn't on there, then finally got like number 20. It's such a great game I'm hoping it does well. And it would be awesome if Nintendo contracted with this team to make a Zelda or Metroid or Kid Icarus or something game! Maybe one that runs at 120fps on Switch 2!
@defrb Have you played Give Me Toilet Paper? It uses the joy con for analogue paddle-like controls and I love it. At max sensitivity it's fun and easy to play without cardboard, kleenex, or toilet paper! I wish arkanoid/beakout/pong type games would include this type of control method. And I also wish for a nice, real, paddle controller like Atari 2600 had. There's Negcon or whatever on PS1, and I think DS got a paddle add on? Switch should get a paddle!
I've been playing Tears of the Kingdom like always, but just discovered new music/atmospheric music I've never heard in 400 hours of gameplay. In the depths at -0891, 0195, -0538 there is this cool sort of voice and maybe smooth synth music. It's probably part of something people know about, just not me. It also changed the graphics to a purplish hue. It's a small patch of purple or lavender ground near Gustofson mine (abandoned, of course). Anyways, TOTK is the absolute best! I've been flying this huge aircraft with 8 rails, a Zonai wing, and a bunch of fans to keep the wing from despawning. Also exploring Death Mountain, upgrading armor, catching horses, etc.
On Switch I've also been enjoying Onion Assault, Monster Truck Freestyle (looks like it would be shovelware, but is locked at 60fps and kinda fun to play around with), Garlic (so fun and challenging!), Bloopy and Droopy (great 60fps Gameboy type game with fun platforming), Prince of Persia the lost crown, and Infinite Golf 2.
On Deck I've been playing all the 90fps games I can. Ballistic NG, Cult of the Lamb, the Turnip robs a bank game that has trouble on Switch but is locked beautifully at 90fps on my Deck, and others.
I also just got a 180hz monitor, but don't think I've got it connecting perfectly yet. I've played Rocket League, Ballistic NG, and a bunch of other games at 180fps, but many games default to 144fps or 240fps, or seem to have frame pacing issues or something. It makes me wish I could pay Valve to set up my monitor since they do such an awesome job getting things smooth when they control the display! Oh, I loaded up Kingdom New Lands on my 90hz Deck and I swear Valve did something to make it run better. It isn't perfect, but really seems better than before.
Oh, and I wish everyone knew how cheap it is to get an awesome 180hz monitor. Great ones from AOC are only $100 (24 inch 1080p), or $30 more to get a larger 27 inch one. I need to hook up my Switch and Deck to it to see how they look. I also need to find the black frame insertion feature and overdrive feature in the menus (and those might be the same thing...)
EDIT: or POST Script!: Chesepuf on YouTube figured out the weird music in the Depths! It's the music when you are descending to the final Ganon fight, which is sorta nearby deep underground. So weird that there's this tiny patch of ground that plays that cool music!
This reminded me that a new game came out on the eshop recently, Moon Lander. I'm really curious how good it is. Have to go search for a video on youtube... This looks nice. I didn't know how much I like lunar Landing until Timespmitters 2 had such an excellent mini game along with racing and the best version of snake I've ever played. Can't wait to try this new lander in a few months.

@calbeau Selling cooked meat dishes is a pretty easy path to wealth in BOTW and TOTK.

Re: Random: This Zelda: TOTK Rupee Glitch Might Be The Easiest We've Seen
@Sisilly_G What you're saying makes sense, but I'm really hoping for global frame rate improvements! Boost mode on PS4 pro is an example. I also hope for frame rate doubling like Microsoft did with their awesome backwards compatibility program. I also hope for seemingly constant improvements to performance ala Steamdeck updates. Knowing that Valve is constantly trying to help improve frame rates on numerous games really makes me appreciate owning their stuff. It's like the opposite of Capcom and other companies including anti-mod and anti-piracy software that reduces performance.
Re: Konami Announces Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic Collection For Switch, Launching This Year
@Edd-O There's already a good Gradius collection on Switch, but I'm ready for volume 2! And I'm more than ready for a Parodius collection. And Bomberman, there are so many great old bomberman games that are still fun to play.
Re: Konami Announces Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic Collection For Switch, Launching This Year
@HammerKirby Yeah, M2 did the GBA Castlevania collection.
Re: Konami Announces Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic Collection For Switch, Launching This Year
@Servbot_EJ I wish Parodius and Twinbee could get the same love that Cotton has gotten. Imagine well done remakes of Parodius and Twinbee. They'd be awesome Switch games! I'd love to have the arcade and home ports also though.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 3rd)
Oh, I'm also playing the Mario vs Donkey Kong demo. It is so good! 60fps, mostly quick loading, great controls, amazing music, and that classic, excellent GBA gameplay. Can't wait to play through the full game several times, and speed run it!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 3rd)
Re: Hamster Corporation Celebrates 400 Arcade Archives Titles On Switch
I have no idea how many of these I own, but I sure wish one of them was one of the Parodius games!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 27th)
Re: New Trombone Champ Update Adds Bonus Songs And Dance Moves, Here Are The Patch Notes
Love this game and all the frequent updates it gets. Can't to see what the dancing is like (probably just make the game even funnier and more endearing!).
Re: Random: Former Nintendo Employees Kit & Krysta Share Their Initial Reaction To Palworld
Re: 'Switch 2' Launching This Year With 8-Inch LCD Screen, According To New Analyst Rumour
Re: 'Switch 2' Launching This Year With 8-Inch LCD Screen, According To New Analyst Rumour
Re: Nintendo Highlights New Stages In Mario Vs. Donkey Kong Switch
@sketchturner What about the music? I remember being amazed at all the unique tracks, and how catchy they were (in DK 94). I've enjoyed Donkey Kong 94 and this GBA game, but don't remember too much, which I guess is good since I'm definitely planning to get this new remake.
Re: The Pokémon Company Releases Official Statement About Palworld
Re: Random: Former Nintendo Employees Kit & Krysta Share Their Initial Reaction To Palworld
@Thirteen1355 Yeah, I guess I could. I still haven't ever emulated Wii U, 3DS, or Switch. I've got no problem with people doing what they want, it's just not for me (yet).
Re: Random: Former Nintendo Employees Kit & Krysta Share Their Initial Reaction To Palworld
Re: Surprise! Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Getting Even More New Spirits
I would love to have a Konami Powerful Pro Baseball player in Smash. Could be really fun to play as, using a bat and everything. Unique too!
Re: Review: The Legend Of Steel Empire (Switch) - A Classic Steampunk Shmup Gets A Lick Of Paint
I also was playing this on my 3DS recently. Such a great shoot em up!
Re: Review: The Legend Of Steel Empire (Switch) - A Classic Steampunk Shmup Gets A Lick Of Paint
I ordered the physical edition so I can hopefully play Over Horizon on Switch sometime in 2025... Well, I hope the new system comes out by then and my old Switch cart will just work in it (without needing internet or updates or anything).
Re: UK Charts: Prince Of Persia Starts Strong While Another Code Struggles To Make A Splash
Re: Over 50 Years After The Original, Pong's Sequel Gets A Switch Release Date
Also, this game looks and sounds great! Looking forward to trying it out.
Re: Over 50 Years After The Original, Pong's Sequel Gets A Switch Release Date
@defrb Have you played Give Me Toilet Paper? It uses the joy con for analogue paddle-like controls and I love it. At max sensitivity it's fun and easy to play without cardboard, kleenex, or toilet paper! I wish arkanoid/beakout/pong type games would include this type of control method.
And I also wish for a nice, real, paddle controller like Atari 2600 had. There's Negcon or whatever on PS1, and I think DS got a paddle add on? Switch should get a paddle!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 20th)
Re: Atari Goes Celestial In New 'Lunar Lander Beyond' Narrative Trailer
This reminded me that a new game came out on the eshop recently, Moon Lander. I'm really curious how good it is. Have to go search for a video on youtube...
This looks nice. I didn't know how much I like lunar Landing until Timespmitters 2 had such an excellent mini game along with racing and the best version of snake I've ever played.
Can't wait to try this new lander in a few months.
