Re: Mother 3 Is Coming To Nintendo Switch Online, But There's A Catch

480frames-please

This was the first thing I discovered after the Direct! I updated the N64 app to play Blast Corps, but also checked for updates on all the other NSO apps. Curiously the Japanese GBA app updated, but not the U.S. GBA app. So I opened the Japanese GBA app to see what they'd added. When the blank rectangle flipped over and said Mother 3 I said holy *****! I love the music in it, and really wish it was translated for a global audience!

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase?

480frames-please

I love Endless Ocean, and going way back, Aquanaut's Holiday, so I'm happy with the grand finale of the Direct. There's many great releases throughout the direct. First thing I did after the Direct was play the super fun Blast Corps! Nice surprise! When I was watching most of the video seemed to be 30fps, but hopefully the vast majority of these games end up being 60. I wouldn't have minded if Nintendo had slipped in a little info about the Super Switch targeting 120fps, or 90fps, for all releases (with a fallback 60fps mode for heavier and more graphically intensive titles)!
I'm seriously excited to play many of these announced games, Penny's Big Breakaway especially.

Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Isn't Coming Until 2025, What's Nintendo Got Up Its Sleeve This Year?

480frames-please

I want them to release a Switch Pro to tide mega-Nintendo fans over until Super Switch. It makes no financial sense, so I'm thinking about getting an extra Switch and having it modded so I can play all these games that run at 60fps when the clocks are unleashed, like Breath of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption, and Crash Team Racing. I'm sure there are many others that get bumped up to 60fps, but those are the ones I know of off the top of my head. I wish hacked Switches could get Tears of the Kingdom up to 60, but it sounds like they just lock it at 30 (even with sages turned on and something like Ultrahand being used).
I would like all the Wii U stuff to get ported over. The Dr. Luigi games on Wii U and 3DS seem like low hanging fruit. Pushmo, Pocket Card Jockey, the Grezzo 3DS Zelda remakes running at 60fps on Switch would be incredible, I'd also love it there could at least be a performance mode of some kind for Twilight and Wind Waker so those could be played smoothly, and I'd love DS added to NSO so we could get the 2 awesome Advance Wars games that came to DS.
I also agree with the article about there being plenty of games, nothing to worry about. I want Super Switch very, very badly, but I've got many, many Switch games I haven't played much yet. Heck, I've got many 3DS, Wii U, and Steam games I've barely played.
Oh, and my final comment is that I'd love for the remakes to focus on lower frame rate games, so they could be brought up to 60fps! Skyward Sword is my favorite example of this!

Tears of the Kingdom! I built a single fan railjet and have been having tons of giddy fun piloting it around Hyrule. I love letting go of the control stick and coasting, then grabbing it again and regaining control and speed. This railjet turns TOTK into the best Pilotwings game I've ever played! This railjet was created by Efficient_Demand who I think posts on reddit and the Hyrule Engineering group, but Youtubers are posting great how to videos so even someone like me can make this thing. I have a hard time lifting off and getting going, but once I do it is so fun and fast. I love landing it in central Hyrule just for the challenge of it. I'm also just having fun exploring, climbing around, and talking to NPCs and doing some side quests.
I'm also having fun playing Breath of the Wild, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Psyvariar Delta, Advance Wars 1 + 2 reboot camp, Dordogne, Arzette the jewel of faramore (such a strange yet good platformer made by 2 guys from Digital Foundry!), Golfinite, Tomb Raider remastered, Pinball M, and Mario Golf Super Rush.
On Deck I'm enjoying Voidigo (still stuck at 60fps, but maybe I just haven't figured out how to unlock it to 90fps, or maybe a patch is coming soon), Ultros (sweet game that looks great except it only runs at 60fps), Flying Tank (absolutely gorgeous shoot em up that runs locked at 90fps), Pyre (I got Hades and Transistor too, but have only played Pyre so far)(looks very nice at 90!), Pixel Cup Soccer (amazingly cool looking running at a smooth 90 frames per second!), and Megabyte Punch (I know this is on Switch, but it looks much better at 90fps on Deck).
Lastly, I'm excited for the delay of Super Switch to 2025 if it means there's an increased chance Nintendo will source higher quality screens for it! With light games there's just too much left on the table with a maximum refresh rate of 60. Let games that can go up to 90 or 120 do their smooth, beautiful thing!
Oh, and I play Rocket League everyday too!
Also, I appreciated reading Lopes talking about Helldivers having denuvo crap and skipping the game. I was thinking about getting Persona 3 Reload and some Capcom game on Steam, but saw they have denuvo and or enigma low frame rate spy software included with the game, so I refrained from buying.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Wins D.I.C.E. Awards 'Adventure Game Of The Year'

I've just been playing TOTK and was blown away 3 or 4 different ways. Just can't believe how good it is. This week I successfully built a single fan railjet (Efficient Demand invented this awesome design, I guess they're on Reddit or Hyrule Engineers or something) (there's great how to videos on youtube). I have a hard time getting my slightly jank version of it to lift off, but once it gets going it is incredibly fast and fun to fly around Hyrule. More fun and exciting than any Pilotwings game, and I love all Pilotwings games. And I've also been completing Yunobos quest line, defeating a Lynel, getting an awesome paraglider fabric, climbing and exploring around, and about 6 other things. For me, TOTK is the most astonishingly good videogame I've ever played.

Re: Surprise! System Shock Is The Latest Pinball M & FX DLC Table

480frames-please

This looks fun, I'll have to pick it up. All these pinball tables are pretty addictive, and System Shock is an interesting crossover.
Also, Tomb Raider remastered has been reminding me of Shadowman. I love how they both run smoothly and retain a lot of the old gameplay, but with a fair amount of newer quality of life stuff available if you want it.
I just wish Nightdive and Aspyr and Saber had many more programmers to bring lots of other old games up to modern standards of 60fps and above (Turok 3 looks awesome at 90 on deck).
So, in conclusion, pinball is awesome and System Shock pinball sounds great!

I saw a youtube video showing that this runs locked at 60fps, then saw that a couple Digital Foundry fellows contributed to the game, then went and bought it. It's so strange, and I really like it! I've never played CDi or any games like this one. I like the strange looking animation sequences, the gameplay, the music, it's really a nice package. And it does feel like a relic of the 1990s, but tuned and improved.

Re: Switch Is Getting Another N64-Inspired Platformer, And It Looks Great

480frames-please

Interesting coincidence, I just got this game on steam a few days ago and played it for the first time today. It's quite a fun N64 style 3d platformer with great music, fun controls, and (so far) well designed levels and worlds. It runs locked at 90 frames per second on my Deck and looks amazing in motion. I'd say it's safe to assume it'll run locked at 60fps on Switch and will feel great to play that way too.
It makes me think of Lunistice and Spyro and Toree, as well as Super Kiwi 64.

Re: Video: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered - 13 Minutes Of Direct Switch Gameplay

480frames-please

Yeah, all this 60fps footage really makes me want to get this for Switch. It also makes me want more PS1 games given this treatment! Seeing this, Doom 64, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, the Turok games, Pilotwings 64 on NSO, etc really makes me want to play a bunch of other Playstation and N64 games at 60fps. I guess there's not a market to remaster most of them like this, but it would be nice.

Re: More Switch 2 Rumours Surface In New "Exclusive" From Reuters

480frames-please

@HeadPirate Interesting, I don't know much, especially about the cost of bulk purchased screens. I'd love it if Nintendo could benefit from the fact that Valve is buying a good number of 90hz OLED screens and include those in a refresh or deluxe version of Super Switch 2. Even without VRR, 90 fps on an OLED is just SO NICE!

Re: More Switch 2 Rumours Surface In New "Exclusive" From Reuters

480frames-please

@HeadPirate Yes, all that makes total sense. Sometimes when I'm asking for 120fps I'm basically begging Nintendo to have a screen capable of it, so someone like Jeff Minter can put an awesome psychedelic arcade game on their system that can hit 120 (like his PS5 stuff does). I probably should accept that a mass market Target, Walmart, and Amazon selling console isn't going to have what I love. When I play on Deck I lower every setting, lower resolution, do whatever is needed to try to lock the frame rate at 90fps. That's what looks best and plays best, to me. But I'm a high maintainence frame rate jerk, lol!

Re: More Switch 2 Rumours Surface In New "Exclusive" From Reuters

480frames-please

@smoreon I appreciate what you're saying. I just see Ori, Deadcells, Wreckfest, Kingdom Eighties and so many other light, older, or 2d games running locked at 90fps on OLED Deck and can't help but want similar smoothness on Super Switch 2. Series S has many games that run at 120, so maybe at least when docked (assuming the next Nintendo is handheld and dockable) it can run some stuff at a high frame rate. We'll see!
And I do realize that OLED Deck costs over $500, so Nintendo might feel they have to go with a 60hz screen. If that's the case, then I really hope they don't rule out a deluxe model, or OLED refresh, just something that could have a 90hz or 120hz screen later down the road. Valve refreshed their Deck and added 90hz, so it's possible for other companies to do something similar.

Re: More Switch 2 Rumours Surface In New "Exclusive" From Reuters

480frames-please

@HeadPirate Thanks for the info. I'll be bummed if it's just 60hz like a TV from 1985. My phone has 120hz, my laptop has 144hz (180hz if I connect my monitor), and of course my OLED Deck has 90hz (and higher if I connect it to a monitor or good TV). I'll still play Nintendo exclusives on Super Switch, but I guess everything else I'd have to get on Steam. I hope Nintendo starts supporting high frame rates!
We'll find out soon enough!

Re: More Switch 2 Rumours Surface In New "Exclusive" From Reuters

480frames-please

This wait is especially agonizing for me because I want higher frame rates so badly, especially on a Nintendo system! Even if Nintendo doesn't include graphics options or release any games that run at 90 or 120 or 144fps, at least make it possible for other developers to do it! I don't want all the lighter games running perfectly at 90fps on OLED Deck, while the Super Switch versions max out at 60fps because Nintendo has an old fashioned screen on their 2024 handheld. Oh well, probably find out soon enough!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 10th)

480frames-please

@Dpullam Interesting. I already had a good collection built up on Steam before getting a deck. This makes me realize Nintendo should use their eshop like Steam, keep everyone's bought games and let them access them with new and ever more powerful devices. I love seeing how a game runs on deck versus on my laptop. I'm basically seeing not having backwards compatibility as throwing away tons of customers, instead of embracing them and encouraging them to keep buying and playing games from Nintendo's ongoing, continuous eshop. But they also need to fix it so it doesn't crash and freeze up and run at 1 frame every 2 or 3 seconds!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 10th)

480frames-please

I've been messing around with no power builds in Tears of the Kingdom. I'm usually slapping a few fans on a few elevator rails and flying around Hyrule's beautiful sky until the fans despawn, but no power (or resistance) builds are too fascinating. Also just exploring and enjoying the game generally.
On Switch I'm also playing BOTW, Rocket League (yes it's way better at 144fps on my laptop, but I still enjoy it on Switch), Panzer Dragoon Remake (hope they get all the other PD games out soon!), Unpacking, Zero Fire, Melty Blood, Golfinite (lovely simple golf game with nice music), God of Light Remastered (amazing soundtrack and good basic gameplay), Jett Rider, Mario Maker 2, Advance Wars 1 + 2 reboot (I love the expansive shop Hachi has in this remake!), WarioWare Move It!, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (amazing improvement on Fitness Boxing!), Marble It Up Ultra, Mario Golf Super Rush, and Puzzle Battler Mirai.
On Deck OLED I've been enjoying Rise of the Tomb Raider (seeing Lara start up a flare in a cave at 90fps is pretty incredible!)(no, I can't keep the game up at 90, but it looks great), Mr. Run and Jump (beautiful at 90hz, and quite a fun game!), qomp (pretty fun, and I played this at 144fps on laptop, not on Deck), and Risk of Rain 2 (plays very well at 65 to 90fps).
Also drinking a Wuyi, Big Red Robe, this week (and enjoying drying out trails).

Re: Random: This Zelda: TOTK Rupee Glitch Might Be The Easiest We've Seen

480frames-please

@Sisilly_G What you're saying makes sense, but I'm really hoping for global frame rate improvements! Boost mode on PS4 pro is an example. I also hope for frame rate doubling like Microsoft did with their awesome backwards compatibility program. I also hope for seemingly constant improvements to performance ala Steamdeck updates. Knowing that Valve is constantly trying to help improve frame rates on numerous games really makes me appreciate owning their stuff. It's like the opposite of Capcom and other companies including anti-mod and anti-piracy software that reduces performance.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 3rd)

Tears of the Kingdom continues to be my number 1 most played game. Recently completed the floating coliseum, which was really fun. I'm almost always playing it with motion interpolation (old school smart TV frame generation, or fluid motion frames) and I'm frequently amazed at how beautiful the game looks. I keep sages turned off to minimize drops from 30fps, which helps the motion interpolation keep it looking like 60fps. Anyways, I don't think I'll ever get tired of building things, exploring, and simply enjoying this version of Hyrule.
Also playing Advance Wars 1 + 2 reboot camp, Fire Emblem Engage, Fire Emblem Fates (on 3DS), Zero Fire the awesome M2 compilation on Switch, Mario Maker 2, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (I want tons of other games added to Fitness Boxing! Boxing with Yoshimitsu, or Link, or Samus, or Mario, or Wario!, or Andy and Sami and Max from Advance Wars!, Falcon Punch!, etc.
Also playing on Deck, enjoying Parodius, San Fransisco Rush the Rock (the Midway GameCube compilation runs at 60fps and is lots of fun!), Roadwarden, The Gunk (really lovely game that I can get up to 90fps, but still looks great at lower frame rates too), etc.
Also, Rocket League all the time on laptop and on Switch.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 27th)

I'm playing my favorite game quite a bit. I recently build an aircraft and flew out of the depths for the third time. It took a few tries, but was satisfying to finally craft something that was fairly easy to fly basically straight up and out. I also discovered a very small spot in the depths that has strange music. It is at -0891, 0200, -0538 near Gustaf Canyon Mine. I have this sense that I discovered something in the game, which is really cool.
I'm also playing a fair amount of Breath of the Wild. I'm looking for something, but also just enjoying going around exploring, fighting, and puzzling out Koroks.
From watching symbalily (Amber) I've realized part of why I love BOTW and TOTK so much. They are relaxing. It is just simply relaxing and engaging to jog around or fly around Hyrule.
I play other games too though. On Switch I'm playing Advance Wars 1 + 2, Super Kiwi 64, Toodee and Topdee, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (I'm liking this quite a bit!), Dodo Peak, Fire Emblem Engage (finally got it and love the music and gameplay), Jett Rider, Chip's Challenge (love it even though it's a choppy Lynx game, all Lynx games were and are choppy), and Light It Up.
On laptop I'm playing Rocket League and Palworld.
On Deck I'm playing Distance, Zenohell, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, Roboquest, Kingdom games, and Dead Estate.
I also got a 180hz monitor and have been surprised how many games my laptop can run at 180fps. I really really like high frame rates and smooth gameplay. I'm really hoping Nintendo's next system can do high frame rates!

Re: Random: Former Nintendo Employees Kit & Krysta Share Their Initial Reaction To Palworld

480frames-please

@KingMike Maybe, but I'd honestly say that developing an open world game for Switch is quite difficult. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom show what's possible, but those are made by incredibly skilled programmers! And TOTK drops below 30fps quite a bit, especially if you use the sages or turn on ultrahand... and it has loading pauses. Still an amazing programming accomplishment though!
