Re: Poll: Will There Be A September Nintendo Direct This Year?

480frames-please

I think there's a direct coming soon, but I'm more hyped about the next console. I'm hoping it can do things like set the screen refresh rate to 40, 50, and 120fps. Also really really hoping it can do VRR and create smooth motion frames. All those things would ensure that the vast majority of games look and play smoothly, which would be awesome. Maybe we can leave 30fps behind!

Re: Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Updated On Switch, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

480frames-please

@MARl0 Yeah, that's what I want to know too! I've only bought FF 6, and it has the stuttering. It seems like I remember John from Digital Foundry tweeted (or Xed?) about it saying the frame rate is fine, but there's like a scripting thing about camera movement causing it to look like the frame rate is dropping. I believe he also predicted they'll never fix it. I also think I've heard that it's a beginners mistake, like many experienced programmers could avoid this error. I also think I've heard it is a bigger problem on higher number FF games, doesn't affect FF 1 or FF 2 as much. Hopefully they do fix it!
Oh, and hopefully they fix the ancient Dragon Quest games on Switch too, but it's been so long I don't have much hope. I'm guessing the old DQ games' stuttering is the same issue, maybe the same people ported those to Switch.
It is sad that FF 6 looks way better on SNES, on my Steam Deck (and anything emulating it), my Wii U (I have it as a VC release on the Wii side of my Wii U), etc. I love the enhanced music.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 9th)

480frames-please

I really only play Rocket League and Tears of the Kingdom. Other games I just dabble in. I'm over 30 hours into my replay of TOTK since Nintendo patched out one of my favorite things. I've factory reset my Switch and been playing off the cartridge using version 1.0. It's great to have full freedom to build my airplanes and rearrange the elevator railings on them whenever I stop on hilltops or sky islands. I really wish the railings were zonal devices!
I'm also playing Dirt Rally on Deck, and a bunch of fun Switch releases. The Switch games include Batsugun, Void Scrappers, Quake 2, Mario Galaxy (using the senselessly discontinued cartridge, of course), Kirby Star Stackers (a good addition to NSO), and Rush Rally 3.

Re: Review: The Making Of Karateka - A Great Start For Digital Eclipse's Gold Master Series

480frames-please

I got this and am glad I did. It's a lovely, well made package. Somehow I'd never heard of Karateka, but I had played Prince of Persia (like on an old 386 or 486). Anyways, I'm excited to see what comes next. Would be very cool to have Prince of Persia treated to this kind of release. I'd love to have the SNES and original to play, along with a virtual museum to watch and peruse.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 2nd)

I've started over in TOTK due to update 1.2.whatever taking away my favorite thing in the game- the ability to break off elevator railings to adjust my aircraft, then see how the change flies. So I'm on version 1.0 and have to use the cartridge and now have autoupdates turned OFF! I just got back to the right leg depot and I have my precious railings again, whew.
Also will be playing Rocket League tons, like always. Have also been enjoying Cosmo Dreamer, Mario Maker 2, Mario Golf Super Rush, Samba de Amigo party central, Marble It Up ultra, and Psychonauts 2 (on laptop).

Re: Denuvo's 'Switch Emulator Protection' Is Now Available Via Nintendo's Official Dev Portal

480frames-please

@Roz1281 Yeah, they're correct. I tried to play TOTK cartridge with another user that has no save file and the Switch just won't let me play the game without downloading the latest update. Huge bummer since I want to choose which version of the software I play. I'm thinking about factory resetting my Switch just so I can play version 1.0, but I'd really rather play any of the intermediate versions that have better performance while also allowing me to easily build fun stuff with many right leg depot elevator railings.

Re: Review: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk - Bleeding Cool Style But Always In Jet Set's Shadow

480frames-please

@StrawberryTurtle I think it's Switch exclusive. Steam deck, any modern laptop or PC, and the upcoming Xbox and ps5 versions all are likely locked at 60fps. Footage I've seen on YouTube show steam deck locking this at 60. Switch defaults to 30fps, but has an "unleash the beast" mode in the options that let's the game target 60fps. It looks incredible on my OLED Switch when it's hitting 60, but many areas drop frames.
It's so fun to control and play and listen to this game that I'd recommend it to almost anyone. I love this game. I'll get it on steam eventually, but don't want to pay full price on both Switch and steam.

Re: Denuvo's 'Switch Emulator Protection' Is Now Available Via Nintendo's Official Dev Portal

480frames-please

@DarrenWarrenV Yeah, I just want to play with the elevator railings freely. I guess I can set a travel medallion next to the railings so I can always get two to freely build with. But it was nice being able to break them apart after autobuilding them. I've also been wanting higher frame rates. I don't know if my 3060 laptop could run BOTW or TOTK at 60. Don't know if the emulators have enough settings so that I could clear the way to smooth performance. Also don't know if I want to mess with getting it all set up. Oh well, I'll figure out how to play my favorite game one way or another.

Re: Denuvo's 'Switch Emulator Protection' Is Now Available Via Nintendo's Official Dev Portal

480frames-please

@DarrenWarrenV nice, so I'd just have to delete hundreds of my digital games I've downloaded just so I could start over in TOTK using the earlier version of the game so that I could eventually make it back to the right leg depot to get elevator railings again and be able to play the game the way I enjoyed the past month or so. Or maybe I could get TOTK running on my laptop and use whatever build of the game I want. So frustrating.

Re: Denuvo's 'Switch Emulator Protection' Is Now Available Via Nintendo's Official Dev Portal

480frames-please

Yeah, boy howdy this sucks. I think this is a way Nintendo could screw up the transition to their next console.
I'm also currently upset because I didn't realize I had auto-update on and TOTK updated without me wanting it to. I read today about how Nintendo didn't eliminate my favorite part in TOTK, but they made it despawn if you break the elevator railing off an autobuild. I don't want to waste zonite so I thought I'd just stay on version 1.1.1
OK, so I can't get version 1.1.1 back in any way. I happened to just purchase a physical copy of TOTK (I have been playing the digital download until now), so I popped that in, excited to try out version 1.0. NOPE, that's not possible! In airplane mode my Switch won't let me start a physical cartridge I bought! So it's Nintendo's way or the pirate highway, lol.
I hope DRM and online requirements are eliminated as soon as possible. Oh my God it's so messed up that one can't play a physical cartridge on a game system without an internet connection that forces a download. This turns Switch games and systems into future e-waste. Jesus christ

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

480frames-please

The soundtrack and excellent controls and 60fps mode make it amazing. I had Jet Grind Radio on Dreamcast way back, and have played it quite a bit on other systems, but this is better. I had to deal with some of the awkward aspects of the controls in the original, but Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a dream to control. The double jump, the easier and smoother wall rides(billboard rides), and the improved frame rate make this game such a joy to play around in.
Of course I do wish they could clean up beast mode to get it smoother in the larger play areas...

Re: Video: Here's A Look At Red Dead Redemption Running At 60FPS On Switch

480frames-please

I like how MVG gives credit to double eleven for their great optimization work here. I know it's pretty unlikely, but I would like a 60fps mode for docked only (like dragon quest builders and fire emblem warriors). Even if a bunch of stuff had to be cut way back, it would be fun to be able to play it that way.
Also, seeing how it can fairly easily hit 40fps makes me wish for a Switch with a screen like the steam deck where I could set it to 40 or 45fps and enjoy gameplay that's much smoother than 30.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

480frames-please

Once I saw on YouTube how this game runs in unleash the beast mode I went ahead and bought it. I've only played the beginning(I'd assume what others have said about it dropping into the 50s and 40s is true), but it does look lovely at 60fps in handheld gameplay. And honestly, the music is so good that I often can't believe it. Amazing soundtrack.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 19th)

480frames-please

I'm loving Tears of the Kingdom. Recently I mostly build strange flying devices using 1 fan, 1 steering stick, 2 to 6 elevator railings, and whatever assortment of bright blooms and dragon parts I feel like adding for lights. These things are so fun to build and fly around! I also like building railjets along the lines of chezpuff and kingsX or whatever the Youtubers are who show many builds of elevator rail jets. But I love slow planes too. I've also been enjoying Black Widow, Caverns of Mars, Gravitar, and Yars (all Recharged). Marble It Up! Ultra is also awesome. Also been playing Koa & the 5 Pirates, Pikmin 4, VoidScrappers, Brotato, Vampire Survivors, and the great Samba de Amigo demo.
Also been playing Tinykin on Steamdeck. Today I tried it at 40fps, 50fps, and 60. It looks better than the 30fps Switch version at all frame rates/screen refresh rates. The Switch version is great, but boy do those higher frame rates look sweet. I've also been playing Kingdom Eighties on deck and 144fps laptop. It is superb! Also on deck I've played Grand Cross ReNovation (great shmup), BallisticNG (hope it comes to Switch soon!), Cassette Beasts, and Valkie 64. I also dip into my incredible collection of emulated games on deck: 1080 Avalanche, Gun Nac, Volfied (PC Engine), Parodius,
Wipeout Pulse, Advance Wars (which I also play in remake form on Switch), Battle Garegga, and Pikmin at 60fps (looks so beautiful). Oh, and I've also been playing Pikmin 1 and 2 on Switch, but obviously only at 30fps. I'm so glad a got a steam deck, if only so I could see and understand how nice frame rates from 40 up to 59 can be when the screen can be set to whatever refresh rate you choose. I never knew that Kingdom New Lands could look so amazing at 51fps until I tried it on deck! Very interesting to play around with.
Lots of stuff!
Also, I really hope the next Nintendo console can do 40fps, 50fps, as well as frame rates above 60. Having VRR on a handheld (like the ROG ally does) made by Nintendo would also be a dream come true!

Re: Talking Point: After Three Months, What's Your Zelda: TOTK Completion Percentage?

480frames-please

Over 230 hours and I'm at 52.something%. Thought it would be lower. BOTW was my favorite game until this one. Over and over and over I've been blown away by how awesome and surprising this game is. I still have tons to explore, but my main favorite thing right now is building random ridiculous flying machines using right leg depot elevator railings. That one item is like infinite DLC for me! I just use 1 or 2 fans, throw some light blooms on it, and cruise around the awesome world of this game. I've still been enjoying BOTW the past few months, it feels like they are one game to me- just with different modes or aspects. Now I'm just dreaming of a 60fps (or higher!) version on Nintendo's next console!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 12th)

480frames-please

Having played about 40 minutes of F-zero X on Switch I'm definitely planning to wait for Nintendo to patch the frame rate before I play more of it. Sometimes I can get through a lap with hardly any frame rate drop, but most of the time there's nasty stuttering that just wasn't there on the ultra polygon challenged N64. It's fun, but the frame rate is too poor for me to enjoy it (and it really affects handling, turning, and trying to stay on the track).
I'm playing GT 7, Rocket League, Dr. Mario 64, Dragon Quest 1 (which stutters badly on Switch, but my TV helps smoothen it out fairly well), Triangle Strategy/Serenoa Tactics, and Qix.

Re: F-Zero X Is Now Available On Switch Online's Expansion Pack

480frames-please

@nuff64 Yeah, I mean it's fun. I couldn't stop playing for 30 minutes, but those frame drops hurt both the playability and the sheer enjoyment that comes from seeing a locked smooth frame rate.
I hope Nintendo hires some emulation experts or something to get this fixed very quickly! F-Zero X would be so freaking incredible if it was running and looking like Star Wars Episode 1 Racer does on Switch! I'd also LOVE to see Wipeout 64 running like Episode 1 Racer!!

Re: Review: Young Souls - One Of The Best Beat 'Em Ups On Switch, Despite Hiccups

480frames-please

Sounds like a fun one. I'll play it on gamepass. Maybe they can even get it running at 120fps on series x...
I adore my OLED Switch, but will always jump ship for 60 or 120fps and vastly reduced to non-existent load times.
I wish Nintendo would release another upgraded Switch with SSD and fast load times (and with faster internal memory RAM the newer Switch could be easier to program for higher frame rates too).

Re: Classic Puzzler 'Qix' Comes To Switch This Week

480frames-please

I've recently been enjoying Libble Rabble and Cubixx on my Switch. Both of those are like Qix, especially Cubixx. I'm getting Qix as soon as I see it available on the eshop. Kinda brings out that organizing and accomplishing feeling that Tetris does, but with the added gratification of gaining territory.

Re: UK Charts: Gran Turismo 7 Keeps Elden Ring And Switch At Bay

480frames-please

@kal_el_07241 I read that 2 player splitscreen is online only. Only online racing should be online only!
I've been enjoying Gran Tourismo at 60fps for about 25 years. I was really hoping they'd increase he frame rate finally... I remember showing a friend the "HiFi" mode included with GT 1 on PS1 (which runs at 60fps) and telling him I thought every game would look that good on PS2. I hope Polyphony keeps working on GT 7 and gives players choices such as ray tracing while playing the game, or 120fps, or the regular old 60fps mode that we've got right now.

Re: UK Charts: Gran Turismo 7 Keeps Elden Ring And Switch At Bay

480frames-please

I'm not in the UK, but I bought GT 7 and couldn't stop laughing and smiling while playing the music rally during the loading process. I'm on a kind of a work vacation, which is always sans-videogames, but I'll get back to it and will surely love it even though there's no 120fps mode (please Polyphony, cut resolution and graphics features and make this game astonishingly beautiful by giving it that native PS5 frame rate!) and it has atrocious real cash snake price cars and it's online only. I was partly laughing because in the future when people turn on an old PS5 and put in GT 7 they'll only be able to play this strange little mini-game!

Re: Talking Point: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?

480frames-please

The only old Switch of mine that I have any idea about is my red box more efficient Switch that I sold to a friend when I got my OLED Switch. I know it's doing well because this friend has my ancient Atari Lynx and keeps it in, well, the same poor shape it was when I gave it to her.
But I've had several Switches. I wonder how my old 2017 Switch is doing...
My OLED is perfect. I take pretty great care with it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 5th)

480frames-please

@Rpg-lover We should call it Serenoa Tactics, print Switch case art inserts, distribute them for free, and just get everyone to call by a decent name (could be almost anything, since Triangle Strategy sounds like something only people who could never muster the creativity required to make the game could come up with and settle on).
