Nintendo's official US website for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has revealed a new bundle. It will include the previously announced steelbook housing the game, and a Super Smash Bros. themed Switch Pro Controller. The controller will also be available separately and is due to arrive alongside the game's release on 7th December.
Earlier this month, Nintendo unveiled Ultimate's Limited Edition bundle containing a copy of the game, a Nintendo GameCube Controller - Super Smash Bros. edition, and a Nintendo GameCube Controller adapter - as well as a gorgeous looking box. This bundle will also be available on launch day.
Does this new deal for the latest Smash Bros. game interest you? Do you like the look of the Pro Controller? Tell us below.

Ok I want that controller...
Eh, I like the plastic cases (and flashier art) more tbh.
Unless that controller has an improved dpad, then there really isn't a good reason for me to care about that as well.
@TurboTEF I Imagine it has the same improved dpad the xenoblade addition has.
Oh, do not care for fighting games. But like the controller
I not bought any accessories for my switch outside of the SD card - could be a good time to start.
Very nice but I wouldnt buy Smash so wouldn’t fork out for the controller. I’d buy a Zelda one though
B/c we just pre-ordered the vanilla version on Amazon. Not that Prime would have discounted this version 20% anyway, so we'll just get our 20% off version and buy this separatly if we want it.
Does it plug into the Gamecube adapter. My kids and I were discussing that just this morning, that the US needed a SSBU bundle, and now here it is, just not the one we wanted. Oh well, can't have everything.
Edit: Can't find this on Amazon yet, but does anybody else think it's FREAKIN' HILARIOUSLY FUNNY that SSBU gives the option for the 3DS and Wii U games in the "Platform" drop down box? Amazon obviously thinks it's a port.

I mean I know Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker does the exact same thing, but that's an acknowledged port I believe, SSBU is supposed to be "a whole new next game in the series" game. Maybe Nintnedo should have a word with Amazon explaining to them the difference between a port and a new game. Just a thought.

SPICY AS THE SMASH LOGO DUDE
I’ll get this controller over the hella old GameCube one.
The controller could have been so much cooler. The color scheme is ugly. Should have been gray with a metallic orange logo like the steel book.
I have been needing this for Splatton and Fornite. Look for me on Fortnite. Epic Name: Chastx
Lmao, this will be my third Pro Controller.
I was already planning to get two pro controllers so my brother and I can play Smash comfortably, so I might get these. I'm not too keen on playing Smash with joycons.
Weird. All the hardcore guys use GameCube controllers.
@Smilegang1337 Old doesn't mean bad!
Gorgeous
@ReshiramZekrom GameCube controllers not bad, just a bit boring to me now
Ugly controller. But then, I've yet to see an attractive special edition Pro Controller.
I hope they've completely fixed the pro controller's d-pad for this model's launch, since I've still heard conflicting reports about the Xenoblade one. Either way, I really dig the clean black and white color scheme.
Ironically, I'd probably use it for every game EXCEPT Smash. The GC controller's just too comfortable for me.
Now this I'm gotta get, please don't priced it more than a SNES Mini.
Since I've already got a pro controller, I'll have to pass on this. It'd be a different scenario if this looked and felt more like WiiU pro controller.
@rjejr why would it need to plug into the adapter? It's a pro controller not a GameCube controller
Playing smash on a pro controller???
Haha.
I shuddered.
Might get the pro controller to play other games. It’s a cool design. Have two pro controllers already though so don’t need it. I’m addicted to controllers on switch - 7 on top of the joy con it came with. Also already ordered the smash pack with GameCube controller and adapter.
Switch accessories have become addictive for me.
Can someone explain to me what is the problem with the pro controllers dpad? I keep reading comments saying it was fixed with the xenoblade edition but what was broken that needed fixing in the first place?
Dammit, Nintendo!
I don't need any more controllers!!!
I already have all the Joy-Con colours (except grey) and the Pro Controllers. Damn my lack of self-control.
@Moonlessky It seems like the D-Pad, if you do several inputs from left to right, some times it registers up or down too. The same if you input up or down. It could affect fighting games that require fast inputs and some puzzle games too. Personally I don't play those games so I don't see this as a major problem, but I would be lying if I said that I've never noticed them in other games.
I still prefer my Xenoblade Pro Controller over this one.
Is this US-only? I'm definitely getting the Controller if it's also EU
@faint I purchased the Xenoblade controller for this reason specifically, but I find the DPad to have the exact same issues as my other pro controllers.
@rjejr
Retailers dont know anything. They just list games wherever they think they fit using whatever template they see.
I love the Switch Pro controller, but I can't see myself using it to play smash. Would be nice to have this smash edition version just for the looks tho.
@Moonlessky There's absolutely nothing wrong with hePro D-pad. .
@Devlind thanks! I have the original pro controller and now Im curious to see if it has the same issues you reported. I dont use the dpad much so maybe thats why I haven't noticed it had problems.
@Moonlessky You are welcome. There's an option in the settings to check your controller inputs so you can test it there.
Snagged a preorder of the Limited Edition from Best Buy for the discounted Gamer Club price, so it's already live there...
I want that controller separately please!
Oh that is one good looking controller.
Gonna cancel my pre-order and get it through Best Buy!....
So that's;
Game or Limited Edition of Game
Steelbook (Assuming you didnt get one for free with a preferred retailer)
Gamecube Controller (Even more if you want 8 players)
Gamecube Adapter
Ridley and Squid Girl amiibo (With more on the way)
Licensed 3rd party edition controllers
And now a Pro Controller edition Controller (Which you might have to snap up quickly because the Xenoblade 2 edition is now pricey)
And possibly paid DLC in the future.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate, We hope there was nothing else on your Christmas List!
I do believe they have fixed the D pad issues. I have two pro controls, one from launch that definitely has issues on inputs,
And a newer one that has no issues
@justin233 Not a fan of orange so glad they’re keeping it kind of neutral with white. Definitely a want from me.
Kind of glad the steelbook is not to my liking, because it's going to be insanely expensive for me to get it where I live, and I don't want to be tempted. That controller looks pretty good, though.
Sure
The thing is... How much?
Looks sweet! I've already got it pre-ordered!
Freakin sold out already SMH!!!!!
@rjejr why wouldn’t they have discounted these bundles? I got 20% off the BotW bundle that included the master sword mini statue, that was over $100 but they applied my prime discount when I preordered it...
If the box is just as nice as the other edition, I’ll probably go for this.
@rjejr I just ordered it for a friend from here for just under $120 at BB. Can't beat that price and with free shipping as well. I also get $10 out of it for the pre-order!
@ShadJV Amazon stopped discounting bundles and collectors editions, quietly and undocumented, as always, in January.
And of course they're stopping discounts entirely, tomorrow...
Not too enthused by the controller. My launch day Pro decided to lose one of its sticks centering with very light use....I'll take the plain black one for less money, thanks. Sucks, but hey, at least it's not a $200 Scuf with the exact same sticks...
@NEStalgia yikes, I didn’t know about the bundle thing, I did know about the discount ending tomorrow, been preordering all I want while I can. Probably canceling at the next renewal, prime has outlived its usefulness.
I want another Pro Controller anyway, so I will get that. Now if I could just get black and/or white joycons I'd be even happier.
@ShadJV Yeah, it's really a bummer. I mean we all knew it was simply added to counter Best Buy's program (which itself was too good to be true.) But both of them cancelling abruptly just sucks.
For me, Prime's 2 day shipping is still more than worth it's price (I'd probably have hundreds per year in shipping, otherwise, though they do find a way to get you to pay more and more...) But I was with Prime from the beginning....it's harder to ween off it. And Walmart has free 2-day now too without a fee. Prime has always been about the shipping until they decided it was services because shipping was too expensive. Meanwhile Walmart is undercutting it. And back then shipping meant ALWAYS UPS and FedEx....then they added USPS and it got worse. Then they added their own delivery service and it got way worse (just a few weeks ago they left a very large, relatively expensive (more expensive than a Smash Ultimate Controller bundle, less expensive than a Switch) box leaning against the mailbox, on the curb, on the street) It's a good thing it was late and I was waiting for the box...it would have been gone eventually. That was after several packages that instead of being delivered (their delivery guys) same day didn't even get to the hub same day, but it said "out for delivery today by 8PM" until 8PM and then it said "your package has been delayed let us know if you don't receive it by...[I think the window was 5 days later]). Yeah...Prime isn't what Prime was in 2007 or so....
@ShadJV Amazon doesn't even appear to have the bundle listed at all right now, would have been nice if they had announced the bundles earlier so there would be placeholders for them.
@zever Sorry to confuse you, it was a joke since the last bundle we saw had the Gamecube adapter bundled with it, hence the at the end of the sentence to express my joviality.
Nice the to see a proper limited edition item and not just a package. Shame the controller is quite so dull though seems oddly understated for Smash Bros.
This looks awesome, I have nothing more to add.
@Petraplexity eh
@NEStalgia i got a xenoblade pro controller, works fine, 9 months later no issues.
@roadrunner343 not me, mine works just fine.
@Stocksy ill prob only play on a pro controller, hated the gamecube controller, but the smaller DZ designs are ok
@JaxonH "Retailers dont know anything."
True, but I bet CoD4 never gets listed under CoD3 or Madden 19 listed with Madden 18. SSBU is an entirely new game, Nintnedo should tell Amazon to list it as such.
@Petraplexity i think the gamecube controller sucks
There's something about a game having ultimate in its name but still having special edition bundles that just feels funny to me.
If it were a wireless gamecube "pro" controller then I'd have gotten this in a heart beat
@Itzsfo0 Glad to hear. It wasn't clear to me if @Faint owned a Xenoblade controller, or if he was simply stating what he read elsewhere, so I wanted to provide feedback on my experience. Especially since I purchased the controller solely because I heard the DPad was fixed, but I have the exact same issue with accidental inputs, especially in the up direction, which is incredibly annoying when playing puzzle games like Puyo Puyo Tetris.
I'm interested, but I'm also going to be broke. I guess I was planning on getting a pro-controller anyway, and I do like the simple color scheme.
@ShadJV Amazon stopped giving the Prime discount on bundles earlier this year. You can't even get it on Diablo 3 on Switch since they consider it a bundle w/ all the expansion packs.
https://smile.amazon.com/Diablo-3-Eternal-Collection-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07GKCMV6Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1535394575&sr=1-1&keywords=Diablo%2B3%2BSwitch&th=1
FYI Prime 20% discount ends tomorrow, so order today.
@NEStalgia yeah I’m just down the road from several stores I can preorder games at, the free shipping was nice but the cost wasn’t enough to outweigh the gas to pick them up at a brick and mortar store. Heck, I only got it originally because I got it at a discount as a student and used it for discounts, I didn’t start buying games much with it until the 20% discount came along, if I want a game enough to proeorder at full price I’m usually happier picking it up at midnight than waiting until halfway through the next day. All in all though... for me it won’t be worth it anymore, MAYBE the $10 Amazon credit deal will be worth it and I’ll consider it but there’s a high chance I’ll just cancel altogether.
On top of it the release date arrival ends up not even happening to me about 50% of the time, and I have to wait until Monday before they get the games to me. A couple times I canceled my orders when they hadn’t shipped by midnight before the release day and just switched to GameStop (they always let me preorder the day before release) to have the game the day it actually came out.
@Itzsfo0 It's not a Nintendo specific problem, it's the Pots all the brands are using this gen. They mostly all use the same part, and the sticks are infamously prone to failure. I've lost the one Pro, an X1 Elite, I'd lost a few X360 controllers prior, one gamepad....always stick issues. Never PS4 due to the humongous deadzone they set that hides the problem even when it happens, but a lot of people have encountered it there too. My ARMS yellow joycon is occasionally wonky too.
But the Pro didn't have much use on it compared to the joycons. The joycons are heavily used....but the Pro I mostly only used for Splatoon and Aces.
I needdddd ittttt
@jbreez00 I’m well aware, hence why I said shouldn't and not “don’t”. I had been waiting for the bundles to go up not knowing it didn’t work on bundles anymore.
@rjejr yep, already addressed earlier in the comments here, thanks though.
And thankfully I have zero interest in Diablo so that doesn’t affect me.
@ShadJV Haha, yeah if it's just games it really doesn't pay. For me I use the free shipping for virtually everything I buy, so whether it's there or Walmart I need it from somewhere. They have this wonderful design out here where they centralized the shopping area for the whole region in one place, which I'm pretty much the point between all the shopping areas, and if I need 2 stores they'e each likely in one of the 3 areas. So since big boxes gobbled up all the smaller stores that have closed, shopping b&m means a 30-40 minute trip out of the way, in each direction, in perma-gridlock, plus wandering around huge parking lots and huger stores where nothing is where you expect it to be and moves between each visit, so a trip to pick something other than groceries at brick and mortar turns out to be an hour and a half processs minimum and usually that's optimistic. If it can't be shipped, I can't buy it. It wasn't always that way..... but between 300% more cars without a single new road and the migration of all retail into designated shopping zones (and then you get there and they cheerfully tell you "oh we only carry the basic things in white, but you can order it online and it can be shipped to your door!" Stuff it.
Ironically I do have a Gamestop nearby as pretty much the only retailer in sight, so at full price they'd be my pick
The steelcase looks really plain, so a no to that. The controller looks great though, so most likely will pre-order that.
Err... I do like that Pro Controller. But why sell it for SSBU when Nintendo is going to sell the GameCube controller adapter, again.
Who's going to get this, unless Nintendo is planning to dupe customers by releasing the GCN controller adapter for a limited time again.
I like the white grips. Wish Nintendo would offer first party replacement grips like that. I'd like having white ones on my normal pro controller but I'm not gonna buy a whole second controller (and I've heard third party grips don't feel as nice).
@SepticLemon There are people who like to play with wireless controllers And all these special editions are always very limited.
I think I preordered the bundle and the controller. When best buy has more info I'll figure out what to cancel and keep.
Already got it on lock on BestBuy.com! If you still have GCU, it knocks the price down to about $112!
And while I wish we could get some LE JoyCons, LE Pro Controllers make so much more sense. If a player is dedicated enough to go out and buy a more conventional controller, of course they'd also be the one to go for the special designs.
I absolutely need this Pro Controller. All of the designs have been brilliantly minimalist and this one is no exception.
Is a Legend of Zelda Themed pro controller to much to ask for lol jk i would love it though i would even buy a new switch if a Legend of Zelda edition came out lol
Like this one. I hope I'm able to get it, as I can use this from now own and leave the splatoon one for it's respective game only.
Why are the special edition controllers always so god-awful ugly? That looks like a cheap third-party knockoff. If that's all they are going to do, they should make make the shell swapable, and people can buy new shells instead.
For a special edition controller, why not a specialized d-pad, or more sensitive triggers, or improved latency, or even colour customizable lighting like you see in gaming mice/keyboards. Something special, that elevates it beyond a different shell.
/rant
I already pre-ordered mine from Best Buy. 😁
@lillith Yeah....the XC2 one was puzzling....the coloring didn't even match colors associated with XC2. It was like it was the Splatoon: Muted Autumnal Edition
I like it, but I can't justify the purchase. I already have two pro controllers, and while the steelbook is lovely, it's not something I need. Just me though, to each their own.
Bunduru! Getting this, or Limited edition with 4 port + GC controller and this pro controller loose.
why couldnt it be a GC controller? people ACTUALLY use those
You knew they'd have to, because there are many Mario/Zelda fans who already have it that are also Smash fans, so they're trying to get more special editions to push that install base- of course that also starts skewing it when they go overboard like they did on 3DS where so many variants/special editions means the average owner has like 3 of them, instead of just 1...
@NEStalgia what? It matches Pyra's outfit.
I don't need this. I really really don't need this. I am not even a big SSB fan... I don't need this.
I NEED THIS!
Probably my favorite looking Pro Control even going against my love for Splatoon
I want it!!!
i wonder what impact this game will have on the switch, half the gamers community is talking about it, including pc, ps4 and xbox one owners. i even known a couple of people who have already bought a switch for this game.
i think the release will be of epical proportions in sales figures, not just game sales figures. and if the nintendo network kicks in, it could have the same effect like call of duty for the epical xbox 360 in 2004, lets hope for a twitch app.
here is where nintendo is gonna win people back with online gaming.
The "leaked" Switch + Smash Bros Ultimate bundle has the same design as this controller, so that bundle is probably real.
I need this.
@NEStalgia It was made to match Pyra's color scheme.
@NIN10DOXD except it doesn't. Pyra wears a shade of red, signifying fire element. That controller is more of a mauvre or salmon and looks like a dyed leftover from the Splatoon color scheme.... The green streak really doesn't match her green streaks either. These controllers really need some design work. Not that Sony LE controllers are any better...
Still holding out hope for a Metroid/Samus inspired Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. We shall see...
Where’s the new joy-cons?
@mgnoodle there is a zelda one, but it isnt pro, it has to be plugged in to your docking station
@NEStalgia I have to agree, with both this controller and the XC2 one. I really want to like them, but I don't. The colors of the XC2 PC were just off, and nothing about this one says "Smash" to me. Smash Bros., to me, is wild and chaotic fun, and this is like the Executive Edition, kind of the opposite vibe.
I'm not a fan of either Sony or Microsoft, but one thing I've always been envious of is their controllers, especially their limited editions. Over the years I've seen so many special edition PS and X-Box contollers that looked absolutely sick, while the Nintendo equivalents felt half-baked and kind of lame. Oddly enough, Nintendo have killed it with their Joy-Con colors (I have a pair of ARMS yellow ones that I love) but for serious gaming I want a sick PC, not Joy-Con.
I was hoping we'd get a Smash-themed pro controller, glad to see it's happening.
Not sure if I love the design but I'll be picking it up alongside the game for sure.
@xpromisedx yeah I’d want a pro. I like the xenoblade one but 2nd hand prices are stupid. My daughter has the splatoon one and it’s good
Slick, but I'll stick with my Splatoon 2 controller.
Original Pro controller much nicer than this hideous effort
I do need a Pro Controller. Neat design.
I'm still hoping for a Smash edition Switch Bundle!
@JasmineDragon I wanted to love the XC2 one, and I was rebuying to replace my broken one a few months ago. XC2 was $40 more and didn't even make me think of XC2 (it still makes me think of Splatoon more than anything.) Pass. The Smash one is just ugly though. It looks like a monochrome controller. Definitely not what I expect from a Japanese company of all things...this feels XBox. There should be a Porche on a rotating platform next to it.
I love the ARMS yellow ones too! The left stick is starting to get iffy at times....I'm going to need some intense therapy the day I lose my yellow joycons!
@rjejr I got you. Misunderstanding was all. Lol.
I'm incredibly hyped for Smash, so I figured I'd be all in for whatever LE they announced. This is very overwhelming though. The standard box art looks way better, I already have a pro controller, and this one actually looks bland.
I am getting the gc and adaptor bundle but that pro controller is so nice looking that I may pick it up as I don't have a pro controller yet.
@Spoony_Tech You ever pick up Yoku Island Express? Sale ends tomorrow, probably at noon. I finally caved. I don't like 2D side-scrollers or pinball, and I hate that gibberish talking, but I played for 2 hours and only stopped to go to bed. Lot's of charm, and I think there will be replayability. I'd like a patch though so I knew where I was going, I just keep circling around. There's a map, but it's difficult to use. Fortunately I'm in no rush. And no game over screens, so far I'm not even sure if it's possible to die, which is fine by me.
@rjejr I did and I played it for a while longer then the demo. Want to get through Octopath first then maybe Yoku's or Hollow Knight or Okami, or Wolfenstein, or Monster Hunter or......you get the idea lol. Not sure what I will play next but I'm determined to not let anything get in the way of Octopath. Got to get these kids back in school lol. Next Tuesday.....FREEDOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
Here goes the list as of 8/29/18:
Amazon: not sure if they posted to early or got pulled back.
Pro Controller... n/a
LE set................ n/a
BestBuy:
Pro Controller.... still available
LE set...was available day of release now .... n/a
GameStop: how and why would they do this for???? This is what they did for BoTW CE when it was released...total BS
Pro Controller... Delivered only-Online order
LE set ............... Delivered only-Online order
@SwitchForce they did that with the Mega Man 11 Amiibo Game bundle - they like getting off on charging like 8 bucks for shipping - zero reason I can't get an in-store pickup. Already paying 60 dollars for a 30 dollar game!
@Spoony_Tech "FREEDOOOOOOOOOOOM"
You dont' know the half of it. As a stay-at-home dad who spends most of his time on a PC he shares with his son I haven't known what to do with myself as he plays Terria, Minecraft and watches Yotutbe videos about Terria and Minecraft all day. Or we go out, and he plays videogames at Dave and Busters. I've been paying bills at midnight. Good thing my sister keeps renting houses at the beach and inviting us or we'd never see sunshine.
And you're never finishing Octopath and you know it. We have DQXI coming on Tuesday, I am looking forward to the family gather around the TV for an hour every night for the next 3 months to play that.
@Dang69, MegaMan 11 Amiibo set was available as a GameStop instore option. Why you went to shipping isn't anyone else fault but yours. Don't want the MM11 Amiibo set then get the standard game but everyone on here knows you better otherwise why would you come complaining here. My response to the SSB NSW was how they could've gotten more sales allowing for in-store preorders. But sounds like you didn't understand what was written. But that isn't anyone else fault.
Pro Controller not exactly like GameCube Pro Controller limited edition.
@SwitchForce I didn't have time to go in-store and do a preorder before the in-store preorder allocations (different than the available preorders online) sold out. So I got it online just incase it sold out at stores around me. By the time I got out of work, no stores had preorders left. And you can't have them preorder from the website and have it shipped in-store either (unless they break policy for you). So, it's my fault for buying it at all I guess, but yeah I want the amiibo set. All I'm complaining about is that I can't make an online order SHIP to my local store to avoid their relatively large shipping fee. But I'm happy I secured a preorder at all. Sounds like you're the one who isn't understanding what was written, I said "pickup in store", meaning have it shipped there and picked up, not "I'm not familiar with being able to secure a preorder in-store, and have no shipping charge." Everywhere else allows free shipping in-store, even if you get it online. It's dumb.
@Dang69, I never got charged for in-store preorder when picking up. Remember they have it saying they could charge you but I never get it because I pickup my stuff or when I choose the "pickup at store" option never hard problems with prices. My experience isn't the same as yours and have no problem doing my orders.
@SwitchForce I never get charged for an in-store preorder either. Also, I'm not talking about ordering something online and having it picked up at Gamestop. I'm talking specifically about preorders - you cannot select "pick up in-store" for an online pre-order - so you have to pay for shipping. You can do an in-store preorder (at the actual store) and not get a shipping charge. The problem is, with limited releases, when you see an online preorder pop up, you should buy it online because by the time you make it to a store, the store will likely be out of the preorders allocated to them. So my only issue was, any other retailer, lets you have an online preorder sent to a store for pickup for no charge (Best Buy even let's you save a dollar). Gamestop wants you to go to physical retailers so that the stores are directly supported by the orders you are making. Simple as that. I usually preorder online, try to make it to a Gamestop and grab a preorder in-store. If I get one in-store I'll then cancel my online order because it's cheaper. But with Dark Souls amiibo, Classics lines and the Mega Man Special edition, in-store preorders sold out faster than I could make it in-store. Get what I'm saying now?
@Dang69 , what were talking about here is GS is only Online for shipping that is a fact no in-store pickup why they did this is probably because they got in late for the deal but with a GCU you get a discount. This makes for easier choice as they allow in-store pickup for preorders but that windows has closed for the SSB LE as that went out fast in less then a day.
@SwitchForce Gamestop gets exclusives like the Mega Man 11 amiibo+game and the Dark Souls amiibo. I could not get those thru Bestbuy. That is what I am talking about why I had to order it online thru GS.
