Independent developer Greenboy Games will release a brand new game for the Game Boy this year after a Kickstarter campaign generated more than $28,000 to help make the project a reality.
The game in question is Where Is My Body?, an 8-bit point-and-click adventure inspired by the likes of Maniac Mansion. Players take on the role of a hand which has to solve a number of mysteries, with gameplay taking place across two chapters. Dan Puch of Greenboy Games says that "we are very proud to have exceeded every expectation" surrounding the campaign.
In a nice touch, the game will be available to buy on both Western and Japanese cartridges, packed in regional-specific boxes with a manual included.
Features:
- 8-bit classic point and click adventure for Nintendo Game Boy.
- Take on the role of a hand which has to solve different mysteries to find its body.
- Inspired by classic adventures of the '90s such as Maniac Mansion.
- Available in both Western and Japanese cartridges packed in regional specific
boxes with manual.
- Compatible with all Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance handhelds.
If you missed the Kickstarter campaign, you can pre-order a copy here. The game's aiming for an October release.
Do you still play on your trusty DMG? Are you keen to try out new experiences on the aging handheld? LEt us know in the comments.

More power to the people who want this!
They should rename it "Game Man" for nostalgia purposes.
Wow that looks really quite interesting. Love the Sonic ring sound being used for dialogue too. As Orson Welles said, “The enemy of art is the absence of limitations”.
I backed a rom copy a while ago. Looking forward to play this in my new flashcard.
There is a french animation movie called "I Lost my Body", with the very same idea of a walking hand looking for its body. I wonder if they're related.
is it just me going deaf having tinitus and old age but damn I always loved the GB music
So according to the trailer, a disembodied hand with a femur bone sticking out needs light to see itself in the mirror. Not eyes, light.
Looks interesting though, some parallel universe there might still exist a version of me that is getting ready to add it to the GB collection.
considering how much hardware still plays Gameboy cartridges, surprised there aren't more of these being developed.
Who else thought that was Thing from addams family
About time! I’ve been sitting here for 23 years, playing Tetris and Side Pocket while waiting for a new game to release. Now my $10.000 investment in batteries finally pays off. Who’s laughing now?
Is that hand collecting invisible Sonic rings?
@Averagewriter I guess they pay fees to Nintendo, because the boxed version is 80€ coated to just the cartridge for 35€. Wtf?
The soundtrack is really awesome and I'm so tempted to buy this, but that's a lot money... Already spend 140€ on the limited edition of S&M 2 from Metallica, so play money is gone for this month 😂
I'll just wait for the rom to be dump online instead. The game doesn't seem like it'll be worth my money to throw at. Also considering it's a Game Boy game and a point and click title at that, one has to wonder why they didn't give it Super Game Boy support and make it compatible with the SNES mouse.
Sadly, my hands got too big for even my GBA, so I don't play these games on the handled much. However, my SNES/Super Gameboy still live on, and those still get some playtime! That being said, this game looks like it's for someone, but not me!
I have this horrible habit of collecting things, and I very much resisting the urge to collect all of this companies games haha.
It would be nice to see actual DMG footage. The colors in the video fit the game perfectly, but for sure it will look different on an actual GameBoy. I just recently pimped mine with backlight and this would be a nice game to try out the backlight extensively
Oh man, I just checked the full price... Just the cartridge ist 14€ shipping, so in total 49€ Just for the cartridge. Come on, every eBay seller can do international shipping cheaper...
@retro_player_77 IIRC this was made with the excellent GB Studio, which is lovely but has basically no Super Game Boy support.
In part because of GB Studio's limitations at the time but also because they purposely designed it this way, I'm not sure it even really counts as a point-and-click. (Although some of that logic is definitely there!) You're really moving a character around the world, not just the cursor. I imagine controlling that with the mouse wouldn't feel very good.
@nessisonett the Sonic rings sounds are not for dialog, if you watch further into the video you will notice is part of then background music that's being played. In my opinion, adding an iconic and very recognizable sound effect as part of your game's audio/music is bad audio design cause it makes them look like they are stealing, but that just what I think about it.
Master of the Hand
@CoastersPaul In the newest beta there's even a point&click mode, which should come closer to achieving that (haven't tested it myself, yet).
That text and text box is near enough identical to James Bond 007
Why do I constantly hear Sonic ring-sounds? Must be placeholder sounds.
@nessisonett
Unfortunately there is no proof he actually said that.
