The first was so dang good! Anyone who has had trouble getting into Sonic in the past needs to give this or the first a shot because it bridged that gap for me between growing up with Mario games as a kid, and not being able to get into 2D Sonic games as an adult.
Yeah no, I cried tears of happiness. My top 3 pokemon games in terms of experience were: HG/SS, X/Y, Legends Arceus.
Now you're telling me I get a combo of two of em?! It'll be 3 years of development between Legends Arceus and Legends Z-A. That's huge. They chose to do the game that sold less but was better received generally. Involving the player with direct Pokemon interactions more than ever before In a non-minigame way since HG/SS.
My own soapbox: Why I've avoided Nintendo Life comment sections more and more over the past year or so.
90 percent of the time it's the top comments are the same 10 or so people who comment immediately within an hour or two of an article going live that "cool, not for me", "I'll grab it on sale", and then this one: "I've had this previous idea about this topic, I refuse to be open to the idea that it could be different for the better."
It's just a bad echo chamber that has made me start using Reddit for Nintendo/gaming discussions, and that's something I never thought I'd have to say. I don't have a good solution for this either, but I'm open to the site at least trying new things with it - something a lot of these commenters couldn't dare do.
100 percented. And I think it's amazing, but not perfect. The boss battles are a snooze, and that's super unfortunate - especially with how inventive the levels themselves are.
It feels so great to simply move about in this game.
The $40 price point and shadow drop release has me hoping that Prime 2/3 will be getting similar treatments with their remastered versions as this. But then again, Mario Galaxy 2 was left off the 3D All-Stars package and we've still yet to see it return in any fashion. I'm waiting for physical personally, but so happy to see Prime get on a console with a huge audience.
The complaints for Peach being "out of character" are just so odd to me. The most character she's ever been given in the games have been Paper Mario, Mario strikers, and Super Princess Peach - all of which she showed the warrior side to her.
@SwitchedOn_Games "Having a team" still won't help in cases like this where a very meaty game is put on the selected reviewer's plate. However, I think writing a short piece like this, gets the attention of those looking for the review from this site, as well as informs the audience of the demo that they might not have known about beforehand.
People might look other places for a review after this, but at least they'll know that a NintendoLife writer didn't have to slave away 20+ hours a day for 5 days to get a proper review out the door.
@LimitedPower agreed. I have zero desire to play the game in a collectible fashion (getting max studs, all available skins in the base game, etc.) I'm just gonna play the story mode and likely be done with it after that. Unless it's a Nintendo game or multiplayer focused AAA, I continuously get burned nowadays for buying day 1.
Based on the hints, I'm guessing another Terrastalized Pokemon similar to the grass-type leader's Sudowoodo. Jigglypuff? Or maybe a flying type to get around the ground weakness for electric.
Made a world with some friends recently trying out these features while in beta. The warden and deep dark are a fantastic add that turn Minecraft into a light horror game for a bit with the screen effects, noises, and (significant) damage output. For anyone who hasn't played the game in a while, definitely a worthy reason to hop back in - alone, or with pals.
The people who comment first on these are always so ready to tell you how NOT enthusiastic they are about Pokemon.
I for one am super excited about this gen of Pokemon. I've yet to meet a person who didn't view Legends Arceus as at least of a step in the right direction for the franchise. And my biggest hope for the new generation was that Arceus was the stepping stone to something even greater. Upon initial reveal... It was! Probably most important to me though: having the grit dust/gravel/pebble, etc. system come back from Legends. Or something very similar to it. If having competitive Pokemon can be achieved by simply playing the game naturally, that's all I could ever ask for. Would add potentially hundreds of hours of post game via competitive because I could never be bothered with the high barrier to entry for creating competitive Pokemon to battle with in the past entries.
@xavieruniverse I'll try it again in a few days or so to give the connection another shot. I loved Control, so this performance from this cloud version demo was disappointing.
Super disappointed. There's only so much you can do in a 7 minute episode. It looks AMAZING, but if this story isn't connected - we're going to be getting a half baked, rushed part of a story arc every week. This episode was oh so bland. Pokemon company sees how many views Twilight Wings got, they know how much the fans would LOVE a full fledged anime or multiple ones having to do with different characters - original or game based. Yet they chose to do a similar bite-size style here to something that went well before in Twilight Wings. Afraid to expand the brand to their older teenage/adult audience.
@NikHogan somehow I haven't heard this idea before. I'd certainly be down. Kinda similar to how the most recent Legends Arceus trailer had an animated portion at the end of it.
@CheekyZelda I always feel this way after starting a play through of the game. Especially after playing Windwaker or one of the other toonish art styles. I've gotten more out of it by looking at fanart and seeing these characters in Skyward sword in slightly different off-model scenarios. Groose being the number one benefactor of getting away from his in-game portrayal.
@Zeldafan79 I mean, I'd say this is a pretty noteworthy story haha. It's the first time I've learned about Sony owning the music and everything, so I'd say it was pretty informative too.
@nessisonett Agreed completely. My nephew and his friends all have limits to playing video games (no more than 3 hours a day) and they all choose to play and grind fortnite. They play in tournaments, they practice together, they work on their call outs. It's actually insane. I've babysat him enough times to learn to accept that "video game for young person = bad" is a stupid and prehistoric concept at this point. As long as their physical health remains intact, and respect for their parents stays - there should be no problem with it.
Reading these comments... Wow. I'm very surprised to see such a distaste for Minecraft in Smash. What people need to realize is, Steve was many many kids first "Mario". And that Minecraft is just as pivotal a game to the minds of current-day teenage gamers as Pokemon/Mario was to me. When looking at the Video Game Hall of Fame, you'd have to be higher than a kite to say Minecraft isn't a top tier placement in there.
If Smash Bros didn't already have other incredible gaming icons, and Steve was added, that'd be one thing. But as soon as I saw DLC being added to Ultimate I thought it was pretty much a lock that he'd be in.
TLDR: very surprised to see so much disliking to an icon being in Smash
To call the kid an A-Hole is shortsighted and pretty immature imo. He's not the first to make a program like this, no reason to assume he's to blame for the Switch shortages. I'd be impressed as all hell if my son was able to do this, for fun no less, at age 16. In the end, there's nothing anyone can do at this point about this specific program or the others like it. So no use in directing negative energy toward a 16 year old and his family - move along.
Figure I'll finally comment on Pokemon Sword/Shield way after the the rush of negativity over dexit happened. They're good Pokemon games. And just okay games... If they were 49.99. Outside of my first playthrough, I haven't been compelled to go back and play the games. I didn't care for Pokemon being cut, because they'll all be back eventually, and in the anime, they're always gonna be there which is what I watch and care most about.
@NookMiler Ash's age isn't actually told at the start of the series. You can assume that he's young, though. There's an episode where Ash and Go are helping run a Pokemon Scavenger hunt for younger kids, and here we see just how well Ash matured since the beginning. Of course he's always going to have his silly moments, but the series has done a great job as positioning Ash as an accomplished, fierce trainer aiming for the top vs. Go who learns many things from Ash.
@Mando44646 That's essentially Go's character, really * Slight SPOILERS* when he catches Pokemon, he rarely battles them first - and his Pokedex utters the words "Nice!" And "Great" sometimes when he throws a Pokeball at a Pokemon. However, the series doesn't treat this as the ultimate "right" way to be a trainer. Ash often helps Go early on and teaches him not everything can be handled in numbers and that much more needs to be done to have a special bond with a Pokemon - such as battling - trusting in their ability to grow over time, etc. I've enjoyed it thus far
I work at Target and I easily got 50 calls a day asking if we had either the physical version of animal crossing or Nintendo switch in stock - we had neither since the day after release of animal crossing. It's definitely a stock problem.
@gcunit well the same except you can quite literally change anything and everything having to do with the makeup of your island. If one lacks a creative mind and does not wish to evolve their island, I can see why it would be "the same but in HD".
@AlternateButtons it's incredibly difficult to get fortnite to run at 60fps consistently on the switch at 720p. In a game where you need to have a decent view distance and alright graphics to see your opponent, it makes sense as to the 30 fps target. They've been optimizing since it's release, so to say Epic is "lazy" is not true at all. Unless you'd like the game to look like that terrible "ARK" game.
I'm sorry but I just cannot with spirit mode and world of light in this game. I played one hour of world of light before growing bored. The rest of the game? Phenomenal
@thesilverbrick not sure why that will be the big deterrent for you considering other consoles will have a significantly larger download size for the game. To each their own I suppose.
@Equinox I hear quite a few people say that.. my entire friend group has moved to higher levels of play and we're all adults. when you play in squads with adult humor and jokes being thrown around, it's a great time. I respect the crowd that doesn't latch onto this game though.
Nintendo stepped in and made the right choice of funding the games - it could be argued that Bayonetta 2 &1 on Wii u was where Nintendo started definitely realizing the potential of Mature content associated with their systems and the business potential along with it. No longer "just a kids console" , they definitely wanted to break that idea.
