Is something slightly off with the controls compared to original hardware? I need to tap very fast trying to move one square in grid runner and other games.
I had to turn on assist to play this, so I would have preferred motion controls or pre-tuned tuned gameplay for joy-con controls. But Iḿ impressed, worked better than Stadia and the Nvidia service on my old Shield tablet. Iḿ not sold on this, but the quality was good enough that I got unlimited access for this game.
I fixed mine using a can of air under the soft rubber part of the joy-con. The sad part of this story is that I initially purchased a replacement part for the joy-con and swapped out without fixing the problem. I also got a second pair before finding out that it was dust under the soft rubber causing the issue, and I needed a real can of compressed air and not just blowing with my mouth to fix it.
hehe, I´ve picked a couple of levels (the scale is not intuitive), one of them got me wiped out pretty quickly. Now, I think I can turn off religion but I´d like to figure out the game eventually with everything like it should be. (I think it was Deity-level, that word wasn´t in my vocabulary ... it sounded like a pushover taunt.) I know now settler is the right level.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah, it´s a good game. I´ve never won though, I can´t stop those religious nuts (need readable docs to make a better and more aggressive strat).
I´ve played the Nvidia solution; it´s pretty sweet for some games when it works. Having a fanless tablet playing a game that would typically require a noisy gaming PC. However, I would prefer a game with worse graphics that didn´t rely on the internet.
@b0nes You can easily tell that it´s below 30fps when you have had a decent size city and of forgot to build health-services and then pan around. You also notice pop-ins of trees when you pan around fast. But it´s a fantastic game for the switch, and it´s the best sim out there of this kind. I hope to see more strategy games from this company in the future
He´s right ... and it suddenly makes sense why game consoles in some sci-fi moves look like an oversized Gameboy. You can´t stream games in space ... sci-fi movie prop-designers are the best!
If this helps the longevity of online services, I think it´s great. The price is low enough to pay it even if I decide not to play the switch for a few months.
I have used this for a few hours and found it quite fun. A lot of features aren´t immediately apparent.
I would rather they went in a direction where they provided a simple forum for sharing or upload to SoundCloud, rather than professional workflow support with midi.
I´m just getting into this game..It´s a bit hard to get into because a lot of things are happening at the same time making it hard to memorize and you need to re-start at the beginning of the stage.
The switch interface is fantastic and to the point. Keep the clutter to a minimum IMHO. The show is just for buying games, not trying to cover every aspect of a purchase decision.
@Indielink Well the game designers could have just settled for 60 fps and changed automatically to a higher resolution in-game where that makes sense. In PC games it´s all settings, and although you can sometimes guess that higher it´s better ... it´s also crap because you never know if the game is any good at those settings. I just want to pick up the controller and play the game
Not a welcome feature. The developer should decide based on multiple playthroughs extensive testing what´s best for the game and stick with that decision. It shouldn´t be left as an exercise for me to figure out.
@manu0 Yeah, with the size of those games, just the ROM will be more like hitting the play button in Spotify or Netflix. Download and install are pretty redundant.
I held back buying Minecraft story mode on my tablet waiting for the Wii U version, then I never got around to getting it before getting a Switch. I wonder if I´ll ever get that thing
Back in the day, selling 20 000 home computers was a success, and a lot of people made games with that installed base (it was sometimes one guy making something in his bedroom).
@westman98 Good point. A standard capacity of 16 GB is a lot of space considering that most games are smaller. There will probably be games that are larger than standard and maybe there will budget budget-sized cartridges for budget games too.
@Zach777 Yeah, the Quality of Life, better sleep product line. "We used to do games, now you can level up your life with NX-level sleep. Introducing Nintendo Pillows"
I had to start Tom Clancy´s ghost recon from the beginning this weekend, it appears one of the kids deleted my save. No problems though, it´s a nice game and I didn´t even remember that I should just make it to the door in the opening sequence
It´s allready happened a few times with Ridge Racer, the reset is right on the starting screen ... considering the amount of grinding required to get through the entire game ... that option should have been not that easy to press.
I totally see the point. I have "The world ends with you" on both mobile and 3DS and even though the graphics and controls work great on my Iphone (Most mobile games fail at the controls part) it´s lacking in some areas, such as the stylus takes less screen real estate than my thumb and the battery life is worse when gaming, but I think the root cause of me not really getting into mobile games is more complex than that. Maybe it´s the context ... that I´m drawn into multitask-mode when using my phone and not so much on the 3DS (I´m not checking email, feedly, snapchat, gitter, slack, twitter, youtube and feedly on that)
In 2004, announcing the Nintendo DS. Satura Iwata talked about working on a new system, a revolution in gaming ... it was launched late 2006.
The NX seems different in it´s approach. We might be getting a nearly indestructible 6" 720p tablet with gaming controls and which will work great for gaming. In fact people might still be buying 3DS´s after the announcement. On the other hand, they´ve seen the self-generated hype of the internet, and just not seen the need to tease or make any claims at all.
I think purchased assets will become the industry norm, if it isn´t already and only some assets will go through an entire design process, the rest will just be customized for the game.
In movies you can buy software which gives you a huge crowd of people.
Huge parts of the music industry uses licensed samples, beats and instruments via hardware or software packages.
I think this division of labor, lowers the threshold and gives more people the ability to create ... and people who do things from scratch, building their own electronic instruments still exists ... so it doesn´t take away anything, there´s just more of everything.
720p would be good, considering the 480p on the 6.2" Wii U gamepad looks ok. I hope they include a pen for it, like an improved version of Direct Stylus 2 that the original NVIDIA Shield had.
Cool, My son is 10 years on the 31. august has been asking several time about Soul Axiom since the demo came out, i think that demo cam during the summer, so he must have been 8 at the time (He might be almost old enough to actually play the full game now).
The Wii reaction was like " Nintendo Renamed Its 'Revolution' Console What?! " ... the DS launch reaction was "Mediocre Launch Library" (ArsTechnica), same with the 3DS launch and then the Wii U launch.
The NX launch will hopefully be something "What were they thinking ?!" ... "Nintendo should just make games for other consoles" ... a couple of years after release, it will dawn on everyone that its the most awesome gaming thing ever made.

Re: Civilization VI Dev Explains Why Online Multiplayer Wasn't Included In The Switch Version
It would have been great with larger font size in the integrated Civilopedia to make it more playable in portable mode.
Re: Trials Rising Screenshots On The Switch eShop Look Better Than The Actual Game
I played the demo and looked at the screenshot just now. I think the switch game looks fine.
I haven´t really done this type of game since Mastertronic kickstart, so that´s my point of reference for graphics.

Re: Cities: Skylines - A SimCity Successor That Struggles To Shine On Switch
I´ve played 30+ hours in this game, and it´s great. I have never played the original, but this simulation is just incredible.
The frame rate isn´t action-game smooth, but it´s not an action game it´s a complex simulation and it´s very playable at all times.
(I would have liked clearer guides and angles to really, the 5-step line is really thin in portable mode)
Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?
Nintendo life should make it a mission to give every game ever released a score

Re: Review: KORG Gadget (Switch eShop)
@Ahlvin23 Press X in a scene to and change scene settings to set the beat to 7/8, you can also use an individual tempo for the scene.
Recordings one slider at a time is smooth with twisting the joy-con, (the analog joystick is a bit fast).
I think the switch-version works pretty well on the TV considering the controls that are available when docked.
It´s a fun creative game I think, but professionals might be happier with one of the other versions and some additional MIDI hardware.

Re: Poll: The Wii U is Four Years Old, But What Is Its Legacy?
@rjejr Nintendo hardware is usually pretty safe to buy at launch because the price is so stable. Not so with Playstation or XBox.
Re: Poll: The Wii U is Four Years Old, But What Is Its Legacy?
The Wii U has awesome Dreamcast-like qualities, with the bonus of extending the life of my Wii games.
Nintendo could slip a final update with a "bug" that makes it easy to install Homebrew games from unofficial sources.
Re: Editorial: The Wii U Has Been Nintendo's Lowest Selling Home Console; It Deserved Better
The Wii U is great and allowed me to keep my Wii library working as well. At launch the user interface was even slower than today.

Doesn't look ergonomic enough to be nintendo. It does look a bit cool i think, but it's more like a mockup of recent Nintendo patents.
