Re: Sega AGES Finally Launches In The West, Sonic And Thunder Force IV Available Now On Switch

techdude

@OorWullie I understand that Lightening Force was what it was released in the 90s. And in game, it adds to the authenticity. I had no problem with that. But they still could have renamed it Thunder force iv in the US eshop together with the corresponding icon. Thunder force name resonates more with gamers than Lightening Force, a name I actually forgot, even though I am an avid gamer in the 16-bit Era.

Re: Sega AGES Finally Launches In The West, Sonic And Thunder Force IV Available Now On Switch

techdude

@LaytonPuzzle27 I agree. Lightening Force, even if it's the name the game was released in the west ages ago, just doesn't sound right. Thunder force IV would tie the series together better, especially since Thunder force AC is part of the collection too. Maybe Sega could update it with a patch, so that Thunderforce IV would be displayed in the logo with that Lightening Force written in small print...

Re: NES Games On Switch Playable For Up To Seven Days Without Internet Connection

techdude

While in this day and age. Unless you do illegal l stuff with your Switch, you pretty much have to be online every once in a while (all those indie games almost always arrives on the eshop first before physical release, if ever). Seven days is still a bit stingy. Heck, PS Plus allows you to play downloaded games until the end of your subscription period, AFAIK without checking the mothership. And Sony just suspend your account (if your subscription expire) not delete your cloud saves. Nintendo should have A grace period before deleting your saves...

Re: Emulation Specialist M2 Discusses Future Development Plans For Nintendo Switch

techdude

The Rebirth series would be nice. I'll buy them all if ever HD Switch versions are released. Konami should consider them since they are easy money since it's cheaper than developing a new game from scratch.

Many of the Wii games (like The Lost Winds series) are better suited for conversion to the Switch, since they were released ages ago and would be not familiar to current Switch owners.

Re: NES Classic Mini Outsold Modern Video Game Hardware In The Month Of June

techdude

Both have a future in the video game space. Retro consoles not only triggers nostalgia for older gamers but also the nerd in all of us who likes to play with gadgets. While Virtual Console on Switch is great for those times when you get that Retro itch or to tide over a lull between big releases. Look at the contribution of those Snk arcade classics in the early days of the Switch.

Re: Review: Super Destronaut DX (Switch eShop)

techdude

Actually, Squaresoft probably doesn't have to spend a cent. Just let Hamster do the work for a cut of the profit. I think they would gladly do it for a high profile title like Space Invaders. Even Nintendo do it...

Re: Review: Super Destronaut DX (Switch eShop)

techdude

@Dethmunk actually a game that get 7/10 seems average to me, since I feel 50% of games get that score. An 8 will get my attention. Anything 6 or below feels sub par. And many generic games get a 7, so this game with its focused gameplay, should have scored higher with a caveat in the summary perhaps that you get more out of it if you are into Retro.

Re: Review: Super Destronaut DX (Switch eShop)

techdude

@BigKing try it first before passing judgment. The graphics are intentionally pixelated and it does what it promises well. If Retro shooter are not your cup of tea, then it probably will not hold your interest.

Squaresoft should port Space Invaders infinity Gene to the Switch. That game will beat the hell out of this one. Until then, Super Destronaut Dx will scratch that itch for short Retro play sessions.

Re: Review: Super Destronaut DX (Switch eShop)

techdude

I would have scored it higher. An 8 perhaps. Sure, it's repetitive, but it's the nature of the beast. And heck, I used up a whole afternoon, trying to chase my high score in time attack. Repetitive, yes, addictive, yes.

And finally given the low price point of this Game (4.99 usd), the expectation should not be the same as a 19.99 or 39.99 (looking at Dillon dead heat breakers).

Re: Review: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (3DS)

techdude

Getting this on the 3ds for the 3d. Some game just looks awesome with 3D. Sad that Nintendo seems to be pushing the 2ds xl over the new 3ds xl (with the release of limited editions).

Using the stylus to control is more precise (just as Sushi Striker did).

Re: Random: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Gets Praise For Its Minimalist Interior Box Artwork

techdude

A double sided insert probably will cost Activision less than a quarter (dollar) more. It's called fan service. Never mind the manual. But at least they should have included some art on the backside of a clear case.

As for going digital, lately on the Switch, I literally switch sides, mainly because on the Switch, the save is on console, and most games gets updated after release, so if you boot up the game after 10 years on a new console, it's will be version 1.0 if Nintendo no longer provides the update. Some games even needs a day one patch to run without glitches. Not to mention that your game is with you anytime you want. If Ninty provides cloud
Saves and restore with their upcoming online service, I might even go 95% digital (some games just have collectible value, so physical on those).

Re: Hollow Knight Sold Over A Quarter Of A Million Copies On Switch In Two Weeks

techdude

Glad to hear another success story on the Switch. That should teach indie who prioritize their games (eg. unravel 2, hat in time) on other platforms over the Switch. They are leaving money on the table...

Just wondering if the developer breach their contract with the big N, by disclosing numbers... As other indie success stories are more vague with the or numbers (ie percentages or total on all platforms)...

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 2018 Went Big On Smash Bros. But Left Us Wanting More

techdude

@Mamabear Sony, at least shown some Aaa stuff in the Ghost of whatever and Nioh 2,then the Last of Us sequel should get their fan base satisfied.

Nintendo needs stuff to lure gamers and developers to the platform. Unlike Sony, they are behind the leaders. Smash will pamper the Nintendo faithful but not exactly draws players to the platform. Nothing on the scale of Botw and odyssey. Last time, at least Nintendo showed the Metroid prime 4 logo, this time around... Nothing. Even a hint that Animal Crossings or another Zelda is in development of could have added much hype. But Radio silence...

And maybe Nintendo should consider buying Bandai/Namco, after all many of their games are being co-developed with them...

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 2018 Went Big On Smash Bros. But Left Us Wanting More

techdude

Nintendo blew it. No big reveal except maybe Daemon. Nothing to draw gamers away from Sony and Microsoft (both of which has better games shown this e3).

No triple a game for the holiday season. Smash is still a wii u upgrade, so 2018 is just wii u upgrade year, and with Captain Toad, Hyrule Warrior and Tropical Freeze?

Nintendo promised a steady stream of games when the Switch launched last year (to maintain momentum), so where are the games?

Mario Party no longer excite people.

They should have some teaser in there. Where's Starfox Grand Prix? What other games do they have in the pipeline? E3 is E3, why does some Nintendo Direct have more content that this E3 presentation?

Re: Unravel Two Creative Director Explains Why The Game Isn't On Switch

techdude

A good idea for an article? Just what does a publisher do? Don't they fund or purchase the rights to a game for a cut (or all) of the profits?

Like Stardew Valley, they should find an outside party to port the game. Kickstart the project if they don't sell enough on ps4 or Xbox (their shortsightedness, since most indie developers have greater success on the Switch than the other platforms).

Re: Review: Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (Switch eShop)

techdude

The main game is not that hard initially, if you learn the patterns and utilize characters abilities appropriately.

Great game, if a little short.

DLC. DLC. DLC. More stages please. I'll pay.

I am a backer of the main game, but didn't wait for my delayed code but bought it when it comes out. Worth the 10 dollars.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th May (North America)

techdude

Here's hoping Bloodstained COTM will be a big success that Konami takes notice and releases some Castlevania on the eshop, a remaster of the Wii Ware Castlevania would be start. Or M2/Sega Ages-like treatment for the NES Castlevania, now that Virtual Console seems like dead as a door nail (no, Switch online NES freebies doesn't count).

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th May (North America)

techdude

It just dawned on me that the poll is quite misleading. You get to choose up to three. Unless your choice is none of the above, you can either choose one or two or three. So if a game is showing 20% (like bloodstained is at the moment), it will have to garner 60% of voters if all choose three. Even factoring the one/two/zero voters, it surely means more than 20% want that game.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th May (North America)

techdude

Bloodstained: COTM. Codes as a Kickstarter backer will not arrive until later, but I will still buy this as soon as it is released, just not in my platform of choice on Kickstarter (Switch) but on the 3DS.

Ikaruga.
SF 30th
Pixeljunk
Zenbound
Megaman legacy 1 & 2
Runner 3

Dhillon if it was cheaper or available on cart, but both conditions unavailable in US, so no buy at this time.

Re: Review: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 (Switch eShop)

techdude

Personally, I would have wanted both on a single cartridge. But on a marketing perspective, this (half-cartridge/half download in US) solution makes sense. Legacy 1 on cart, means physical lovers get something, and Capcom some retail space on Walmart / Gamestop /etc.

The download portion guarantees Capcom a shot at the bestseller list on EShop. After all, unless your game makes the list, pretty much the only way you can get publicity (once your game get bumped from the new list - around two weeks) is to cut the price. Games that gets on the bestseller list pretty much guarantees better return on investments.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th May (North America)

techdude

Yonder for me. A relaxing change of pace.

After last week, where there's not much interest me, this week, there's at least 5 that I want - the aforementioned Yonder, Hyrule Warriors, Runner 3, Fairune Collection, and Megaman Legacy 1 & 2. Ok, that's six, but Megaman should have been one collection.

And there's still games like Framed, Banner Saga, Elena Temple, Wizard, Little Nightmares, and Battle Chasers which I would save for a boring week (if ever it materializes)...

Redux for the 3ds also would probably get my cash.

So pretty much everything that's released this week. If only I have 24 hours to play everyday....

Re: Chill Out And Unwind With The Joy-Con Flipping Power Of Zen Bound 2

techdude

Played it on mobile. Liked it actually, but priced too high on Switch. There's no drought of games this month, so it's impossible to justify a $5 game on mobile, being sold for $15 on Nintendo Switch.

While it's a good relaxing game, it's essentially a one-trick pony. I'll probably get it once it goes on sale for a third of it's price, otherwise, I'll pass.
