Re: Nintendo Labo Variety Kit Surpasses One Million Sales

techdude

1 million is a lot. Considering this is niche product that's not expected to sell to the masses like Super Mario Odyssey.

And while the price might seems to be much. This is more than cardboard. The software and development cost should be pretty expensive. How they get those cardboard to interact with the Switch takes a lot of imagination.

I doubt this is a big money maker for the big N. It's more like a side project that brings the fun side from their programmers/developers.

Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Labo VR Fails To Enter Top 40, Yoshi Slips Down To Fifth Place

techdude

If Nintendolife and other Nintendo focused sites had full reviews of this kit, then Sales would have been higher. Most have previews but not full reviews.

Still, I don't think Nintendo hopes to make big money on Labo. If anything, it might be a money losing venture, sure $80 cardboard is expensive but the accompanying software is polished and cost a lot to develop. Not to mention, those updates to old games like Mario and Zelda where they get nothing for the update development cost.

This is more like one of those side-projects from Google, where Nintendo just want to play around, have fun. Not just for themselves but for all the gamers in us.

I got the Aussie version (I live in Asia), since Amazon don't have it in stock. Initial impression is good. Still getting acquainted with it and just built the VR box. Bird, next...

Re: Nintendo Download: 11th April (North America)

Feather, neat stress-free flying game. Got it when it was released last week. For those times when I want to relax after a stressful day.

Would love to see more levels but OK for an indie title. Hope it sell well that the developer will add to the game.

Would love to see how this game fare with game reviewers. But Some game like Wandersong just didn't get reviewed.

Re: Reminder: Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn Launches Today - Nintendo's Final Major 3DS Release?

techdude

At this point in time, I don't think it's worth it for Nintendo to make a new original game (not port) instead for say, the Switch. But there's still games like Sega collection 3 which got released in Japan but not in the US. If they want, they still have lots of games from the Snes that they could release on Virtual Console. But guess, their focus is now on the Switch.

Kirby as good as it is gameplay wise, lost some of the charm in the port to the 3DS. The yarn look is muted by the low resolution.

Re: New Nintendo Labo Kit Introduces VR Gaming On Switch This April

techdude

@Octane Thanks for the clarification. Having used a 1080p Android phone for Carboard VR, I find the resolution lacking. Now the Labo VR is even less, then as I stated, maybe Nintendo could conjure up magic once again. I'll be among the early adopters if only because of my faith in the big N, and that I want to support their off-the-beaten-path endeavors.

Re: Nintendo Cuts Its 20 Million Switch Hardware Sales Target Despite Incredible Holiday Season Performance

techdude

If only they have a big first party software lineup for the first quarter, then 20 million would have been attainable. But with New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe as anchor, they do not what might be described as system sellers like Pokemon and Super Smash Bros did for l them in the quarter just past.

Yoshi, like Kirby in 2018, will probably be a modest success. Fire Emblem still do not have a fixed date, so it will probably be April or later (like Hyrule warriors in 2018). If only Nintendo could have another 2017-like year, where Breath of the Wild, followed by Mario Kart, then Odyssey, then Nintendo will be facing shortages of consoles, not cutting forecast...

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Metroid Prime 4 Delay?

techdude

My guess is Retro initially declined to work on 4, after all, having work on the series for so long, they probably would want to try something new. Sure, Nintendo could have force it on them then, but working for something you like, is better than something you did because you are forced to...

Now a few years, and several other projects later, Retro might be more willing to handle it again...

Re: Nintendo Banked $348 Million In Mobile Revenue Last Year

techdude

The lure of money in mobile is just too tempting to ignore. To make $50 million on consoles mean you have to sell one million $50 dollar game, and even then you don't take home 50 million, since you have to split with retailers. No wonder the CEO is thinking about mobile gaming more.

Re: Henk Rogers On His First Impressions Of Tetris And Persuading Nintendo To Bundle It With The Game Boy

techdude

I would like Tetris Effect on the Switch as well... But I think the way to play The Perfect Tetris is via VR... I am thinking of getting one (VR only, I already have a pS4) just for this game - for me, I think it deserves to be GOTY. Red death Redemption might be great, but I think time will be gentler on Tetris Effect, like 10 years from now, it will be as time less as ever.... Straying a little off topic....

Tetris and Gameboy are a perfect fit. Especially if Nintendo re-release a Gameboy Classic. But they may have to renegotiate about rights, given that Nintendo has since pulled the Game off the eshop for the 3ds...

Re: Indie Devs Explain Why Their Games Are Successful On Nintendo Switch

techdude

It's basically having a good game, luck that the big N will promote it in a Nindie showcase, and marketing skills like promoting it on Nintendo fansites like this one.

Then once the game is released, it's gaming the system! After the initial wave of buyers, if the game doesn't make the bestseller list, offer it at outrageous discount like 90% off, to push the game to the top or near the top of the bestseller list. That's why so many mid-tier games are on the list even if higher priced and higher quality games don't.

Re: Video: Nintendo Would Like To Remind You That 2DS Exists This Christmas

techdude

The 2DS does have a future as a cheap entry level handheld but only if Nintendo is smart enough to launch super sale of software on the eshop. If the games cost almost half the price of the console then most people would just get a low-end smartphone instead. Since the extensive catalogue has already made up its cost, aaa titles for $10 or less, should just be gravy for the developers.

If the Playstation store can periodically have sales that cut prices of games 90%, then why can't Nintendo do the same. It's would made people want the handheld. And give it a second life or nine...

Re: Wandersong On Switch eShop Has Outperformed Steam Sales By Nearly Three To One

techdude

I wished Nintendo had featured this game on their featured tab on the Switch. This game deserves more than many of the other me-too procedural games that clog the bestseller list. Not to mention, it's a console exclusive for the Switch at the moment. That should count for something over say Guacamelee 2 which launch first on other consoles (not that it's featured nor that it not a good game, just that Nintendo get it last.)
