Atooi's titles aren't the only games on sale on the Switch eShop at the moment, with ten ACA Neo Geo classics 40% off from now until 19th September. Thanks to the price cut, each one is $4.79 / £3.77 instead of the usual $7.99 / £6.29. Below is the full list:
- Metal Slug
- King of the Monsters
- Samurai Shodown
- Alpha Mission II
- The King of Fighters '94
- Burning Fight
- Art of Fighting
- Fatal Fury 2
- Super Sidekicks
- Puzzled
Each game also includes the usual ACA features - with the ability to change various settings including difficulty and reproduce the atmosphere of the original arcade display settings. Players can upload their high scores to global leaderboards and enjoy local multiplayer as well.
Will you be picking up any of these ACA Neo Geo games while this sale is on? Tell us in the comments.

Which of these do I need to buy??? I have mark of the wolves and I think king of fighters 96??
Wow, never thought I'd see the Arcade Classics go on sale. Might pick up King of the Monsters for the novelty of it. $5 is my impulse price!
I never thought I'd see something like this happen.
HAMSTER's testing the discount waters, folks! Even if it's from only a selection of ten games, buy whatever you can! And hopefully next time we'll see more go on sale, maybe even ALL of them!
Damn, I can only get SamSho I and King of the Monsters, I already have everything I want from that list. Maaayybe Fatal Fury 2, as well...
Some of HAMSTER’s NEOGEO games have been going on sale over the past several weeks on PS4’s and Xbox’s marketplaces, so I was praying we’d get similar discounts. I’ll definitely grab what I can, to encourage more frequent sales of other titles.
@adam9431 You can't go wrong with Metal Slug, I still hear people saying the first game is still the best. Samurai Shodown could be another one, though Samurai Shodown II and IV are considered the better ones. I like the presentation of the first game, with pre-fight dialogue spoken (word balloon, actually) by your next opponent, the bonus rounds that only existed in the first game, and the slightly slower, more deliberate, gameplay as compared to the rest of the series. Samurai Shodown is the first game the Ex-Capcom staffers made when they joined SNK, btw, so I see a lot of passion and freedom expressed there. Super Sidekicks, maybe. But I think 3 is the best of the series. (That was before they added the super broken "super" meter)
@adam9431 Samurai Shodown for sure. The first 2 games in that series are the best.
Never thought these would ever go on sale actually. I already have a few of these games already but I’ll go ahead and pick up KOF 94.
Come to me, Metal Slug!
Just FYI, all or most of the links in the article go to the wrong games.
@20wonders Avatar fits so well with that comment.
Woo i need to get an eshop card. Brb.
Are any of these fun for someone who has zero neo geo nostalgia?
Isn't the usual price $7.99?
@techdude Yes, it is. I was just gonna comment that
@leo13 You should at least find Metal Slug fun, even better if you find a buddy to co-op with.
KOF and Samurai Shodown will depend if you are into fighters.
I'm glad they put Fatal Fury 2 in there instead of the first one. That one had some good idea but the gameplay on it was just too awful to handle whereas the gameplay on the sequel was much smoother and easier to handle plus it more fun. Also first game only took place in Southtown (SNK's fictional New York City), second game had you traveling the world which is more exciting.
No
Samurai Shodown and Metal Slug are the best choices here. Fatal Fury 2 and KOF 94 are showing their age more but are still good.
The rest are so so bordering on bad.
@masterLEON I saw this h appening, with the same ten games... but on Xbox One. 2 weeks ago. I bought the 3 I consider worth it because of the achievements, but all this means sales are possible with Hamster games.
I hope Arcade Archives titles get discounted some day too, but I don't expect these offers to happen very often.
By the way, my choice was KOF 94 (I wanted to see the origins of it all), Samurai Shodown (I just bought II on Switch but for that price I wanted the first entry too, nowadays still regarded as good) and Alpha Mission II, a shmup with good reviews without being on the Top 3 of the genre on Neo Geo.
On Switch I won't double dip, but could consider Fatal Fury 2 despite having Special on an actual Neo Geo AES, because for 3 euros (South Africa) could be worth it.
Great deals, I bought these at $8 a pop and don't regret it. At less than $5 they are all a steal.
Metal Slug for me! Good pickup for free moments this weekend.
Metal Slug is a must, so are folders for my games, at least let me put my NeoGeo games in the same place!
Love NeoGeo.
Yeah Metal Slug for me too. Intrigued by samsho 1 so might pick it up too, for under 4 quid it'd be rude not to!
I guess I’m the only one who likes burning fight. I’ll get it for sure.
Already have MS1 so I snatched Samurai Shodown but only because I love the franchise, I still think II and IV are the best ones.
@masterLEON Hey bro how you doing? We miss your presence in Adult Switch Gamers discord channel!
Well l already had Burning Fight so now I just grabbed:
Alpha Mission II
Metal Slug
King of the Monsters
Super Sidekicks
I may still grab one or two fighters and puzzled but I have to grab some other games on sale!
Lastly, while I did catch this sale on Xbox I think i missed it on PS4...hopefully the first of many Neo sales to come!!
@Aloth no your not! 😆
Already got Alpha Mission II in this sale, and King of Monsters was already in my library. Trying to decide if I'll get Puzzled or not.. I like tetris gameplay. And this is with a twist.
damn. Wish kof98 was on that list.
Metal Slug - yoink! I'll take one of those, please. I think they should knock a good 40% off the retail price of the entire ACA Neo-Geo series permanently. I'd buy a good lot of them if the price was easier to swallow.
I'd advise against Super Sidekicks. The other versions released are far superior, even for £4-5, put that money towards the better version.
Getting Metal Slug and Alpha Mission 2. Like it's been said previously I'd like folders, especially with the "free NES games" that we should be getting for the privilege of playing online.
Woo hoo! Picked up the 5 games I didn't already have on various compilations.
I'm sure it's been said several times already, but I NEVER thought I'd see these games on sale and just chalked it up that I'd have to put in $8 a pop, like it or not. Of this batch though only Alpha Mission II has my attention.
I have all of the non-fighting games. I guess I'll go ahead and grab some of the fighting games I don't have yet. Nice!
@joey302 is burning fight any good or should I just stick to final fight 1-3 and streets of rage 1&2 on my new 3ds?
@Oat well burning fight is definitely worth 5 bucks but streets of Rage is my first pick followed by Final Fight and of course these 2 franchises not on Switch yet so...if you want to have a beat em up on Switch Burning Fight is a fine choice. Sengoku 3 i heard is pretty good too!
@adam9431 Honestly, I'd skip this sale. Most of these games have better sequels that will probably go on sale before too long. All of them will be on the SNK 40th anniversary collection, and all were on the SNK Arcade Classics for Wii. There are more cost effective ways to get these particular games.
Luckily own only Samurai Shodown from that list on switch. Held off getting most due to already owning on PS2 and other consoles (I already had Shodown but wanted the series so bad on Switch). I'll get all the other 9. Worked out can get 5 ACAs and Cloud Master with a £25 eshop card this week, and the other 4 ACAs with a £15 card next week. Means probably got 4 versions Metal Slug - PS2, PSP, PSN, (possibly more) - and the fighting games at least twice (KoF 94 more) but price just too good.
Was really hoping the Shock Trooper game’s were part of this sale
Oh well, Samsho and Metal Slug it is!
Hey, Hamster, more deals, please!
@judaspete we don’t know for sure these games will be on the SNK 40th. You’d think they would have announced them by now. I mean I would expect Samsho and Metal Slug, but we just don’t know, and I think a lot of us are getting impatient waiting for their announcement.
@judaspete thanks for the tip. I remember now that I do have that collection on the Wii. Phew you just saved me some cash thanks!
@judaspete None of these game have been announced for the 40th Anniversary Collection. I think the collection will consist of pre-Neo Geo titles only.
But I totally agree that most of these games have better sequels, and the only two games I would recommend buying from this sale are Metal Slug and Samurai Shodown. Unless someone is going for a complete ACA NEOGEO collection on their Switch.
@judaspete @adam9431 Actually, only 5 of these are on the Wii SNK Arcade Classics. However, I prefer the ACA versions over last generation emulation instead. Crisper video with more screen size and filter options, leaderboards for caravan and hi-score modes, and no aggressive anti-epilepsy measures messing with the frame timing and animation. And from what we know, the 40th Anniversary Collection only has pre-NEOGEO SNK games. I doubt they'd overlap releases with HAMSTER (and Digital Eclipse is handling the 40th Anniv. Colleciton).
@RetroGamerAndrew 'Sup, man! Yeah, night/day job is kicking my butt right now, and on the weekends I'm a vegetable, LOL. But our projects will likely wrap up by next month before the holidays so I can get back to games. From Mid-July to August I was deep into Zaccaria Pinball, at least. And with MAGfest fast approaching in January, I need to spend some quality time on real tables before the tournament. I plan to drop by my local pinball spots every other weekend or so for some practical practice. Oh, and I picked up Touhou: Azure Reflections and Shikhondo this week because I hate myself, LOL.
I haven't joined the Discord, yet. I thought that was for setting up matches for the game nights? I should probably stop by, though. It's been a while.
Just pouched metal slug for £1.58 using the gold coins. Sweet deal
@masterLEON I know how it feels when work gets in the way bro, glad to hear you're doing well anyway!
Yeah, we first moved to Discord to coordinate gaming nights, but now that's only a small part of the picture: we set up different chats to speak about... well almost everything from retrogaming to incoming releases, and with Bally/Williams table coming back to Switch soon we're having quite a few pinball-related chats lately... so it would be ace to have you joining us there
@masterLEON @JoakimZ : Sorry everyone. I was mixing up the Anniversary Collection game list with the Neo Geo Mini. But I stand by my claim most of these have better sequels that will be on sale soon.
