Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?

splinters

I have a mint condition boxed black New 3DS XL IPS top screen ambassador model with the rare official cradle. Might well be my favourite console of all time (close tie with the PS Vita) although the Switch OLED is getting close.

Re: Feature: Here's All The Best Switch 2 & Nintendo Stuff I've 3D Printed So Far

Nice, i have the same printer, its a great machine. The Minority Report analogy was a bit strange though. That is a subtractive (wasting) process; the ball is CNC machined from a solid block of ‘wood’. 3D printing is additive building a layer at a time, with little waste. I used to explain it to kids like the scene from the Fifth Element where they reconstruct from the hand.

Re: Two Cancelled Virtual Boy Games Coming To NSO In 2026, Including F-Zero Spin-Off

@breach187 same, while I applaud offering hardware to enjoy games you already pay to access (N64, Gamecube controller etc.) they are an optional luxury. Making these only available if you buy extra peripherals is not right…unless they added 3DS games that work in stereoscopic on it. Still, i get that they dont work without the 3D hardware so i will just stick with the 3DS ‘versions’…and even then, the novelty of a playing monochrome game boy games soon wears off.

Re: Video: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch 2 & Switch)

Struggling to see a noticeable difference. I bought the upgrade but will leave this on my OLED for now. If they add anything noticeably different to gameplay and bump to 60 FPS it might persuade me to upgrade. After all, you pump hours into a game like this and SW2 doesn't have that sort of battery life.
I am assuming that, unlike say Metroid 4, you cannot just play this game across different consoles...do you have to do the island transfer thing?

Re: Nintendo Reveals First New Joy-Con 2 Colours For Switch 2

splinters

Each to their own, but I dont get colour options. I either play docked with a pro controller, or never look at my hands when playing. I see Playstation just released a range of neon colours which at least have a bit of pop. These are a little insipid although my granny would like them. What are we talking here, peppermint and lavender??

Re: Surprise! Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Is Available Now On Switch & Switch 2

splinters

My logic on these two is a bit weird but, if a game runs better on PS5 I buy it there. If its a Ninty exclusive game that will be mostly played on TV, I get the SW2 version but if its available on the SW1 I usually go for that. SW2 never gets played in handheld mode so no point compromising on the TV experience. For those who dont have that option, I hope it runs well enough on Switch

@sketchturner
This is my thinking with Metroid 4. I will be getting the SW1 version to play on OLED as I still think certain games (Doom 3, Metroid Dread, Maro Wonder etc.) still look better on that system. I will inevitably drop for the upgrade pack as I will want to see for myself how it runs on SW2 on the bigger QOLED 4K TV, but my SWOLED gets more play than any other console and that includes PS Vita and 3DS XL.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The Switch 2's Next Exclusive 'Drag x Drive'?

splinters

From what I have seen, this looks a bland and boring experience so i have no interest which is a shame as I would have expected a Switch 2 first party exclusive to be a must have. Feels like another cash grab after the welcome tour and a way of justifying the mouse control of the new console. I would rather see games that would benefit from a mouse option (house of the dead, doom etc.) get an update than invest time or money in this.

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

@Khwarezm89 indeed, in that way, it’s much better than digital only option (both take up the same storage space) and could well end up being a more cost effective option than a physical cart which will likely hold its price. For someone like me who doesn’t collect games, just likes to play them then move on, its great.

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

Im struggling to see the issue. I buy digital for convenience. If the game is naff, i finish it, get bored etc. im stuck with it.
Key card, same scenario, but I can sell it on.
Of course a cart is better, but surely being able to sell it is better than digital, plus the price will likely lower as it moves through the second hand market unlike the expensive digital option.
