Remember the 2012 game Journey? Although it wasn't released on a Nintendo platform, it was still a beautifully crafted title. Now, the developer behind this – thatgamecompany – seems to be hinting at bringing its most recent mobile release Sky: Children of the Light to Switch.
The game is described as a "social adventure" and allows players to meet up, adventure and solve mysteries with each other. Here's exactly what the co-founder and creative director Jenova Chen had to say during a recent interview with MCV:

… But our game [Sky: Children of the Light] runs on iPad, on PC, it will run on console in the future. … In the future, it’s going to cross all platforms. And whether you have PlayStation or Switch we will support crossplay.
So, just to make that clear, the dev seems to be indicating that the game will be released on all platforms in the future and will support cross-play, regardless of the system you're playing on.
This same developer previously worked on Flower and released it in 2009, so it would be lovely to see one of its titles finally make its way across to the Switch. If we hear an official announcement, we'll be sure to let you know.
Take a look at the trailer of Sky: Children of the Light above and tell us down in the comments if you would be interested in seeing this game released on the Switch.

@TheAwesomeBowser this dev makes exceptional great games that happen to be able to run on mobile devices.
Not all mobile games are bad and now with apple arcade a lot of those games are console experiences.
@TheAwesomeBowser first thing that came to mind was downwell, it's fun.
dammit! ambition of the slimes wasn't my first thought?!
There is great games for mobile like Riptide, Shadowgun Legends and many more.
Shadowgun Legends runs at 1080p/60 on NVIDIA Shield TV.
Riptide Renegade is already on Switch, but i have seen that Shadowgun is coming too.

A great game is a great game simple as that.
This is regardless of the origin (mobile) – and we should be delighted to have something of the quality of Journey coming to Switch.
However, a great game with unsuitably ported controls is where these scenarios can go wrong. Let's hope this game comes over with a well thought out control scheme for Switch.
With devs of this calibre it should be more than fine.
Cross-Progression/Saves > Cross-Play
@BENDsli I'd say it's something completely different... unless they have cross-platform PURCHASE, cross-save will see much less use than cross-play I suppose. Also, as long as Switch runs it well in both TV and portable mode, cross-save will see even less use.
Of course I can't speak for you, and if you want to buy it on, say, both pc and switch, I can imagine cross-save can be a very neat feauture. All I'm saying is that it's probably more worth the time and effort to always have online companions ready, if they have to choose, especially if it's something like Journey. I only hope it will not require a subscription for Switch online to have others join your "journey"...
@Shambo It’ll probably be similar to Fortnite, where subscribing to NSO won’t be required because the base game is free and the connectivity/social aspect is an absolutely essential part of the game. (As for microtransactions, they’re just for cosmetics.)
I’d hand over hard cash for “journey” but I understand it’s a ps3 exclusive?
@KIRO not anymore. Journey is up on the Epic Games Store for PC.
@necrite13 but it was still bankrolled by Sony. That's why it's out on PC and iOS but not Xbox or Switch and why we will never see Flower outside of PlayStation consoles either. Sony signed a 3-game contract with thatgamecompany
Sky was part-funded by Apple so it could be a timed exclusive. I imagine it will end up on all platforms sooner or later. If you want to play Flow, Flower or Journey a cheap PS3 is your best answer. They're on sale quite frequently on PSN.
This looks lovely, so I will be watching and waiting.
Journey is now available on Apple devices, I really do need to just go ahead and download it!
I’d do close to anything to play Flower on Switch with gyro. Just gorgeous.
Beautiful game, just like Journey was. Hoping to see it come around!
@necrite13 thanks for that info! A glimmer of hope for sure.
Bring journey instead. That us an awesone game. This one not so much
I love thatgamecompany, but unfortunately some of its key team members left after Journey launched, so I'm worried about the studio's future. Sky's mobile release and F2P format turned me away initially, but the more pictures I see shared online the more I want to try it. I wish a future Switch port would remove the micro transactions, but I'm sad to say I'm not exactly holding my breath.
@CairiB
I would recommend experiencing Journey on a TV screen if you have a PC/PS4/PS3. It really is so beautiful and unique that your first go around is greatly amplified by a proper theatrical format.
Their games are good don't get me wrong but I don't see how they get 10/10 reviews, the main focus of those reviews were the art style but the gameplay to me was very simplistic and short, if I was to rate games with good art style/graphics then there would be more 10/10 games
I am still skeptical from that quote whether it is journey or sky that they will be bringing over. Journey is available on iPad and PC, whereas Sky is only on iPad and not PC
@playstation_king it's not just the art style, but the experience as a whole. The understated music, the 'Journey' you go on (pun intended). Games should be about emotions, and you'd be hard pressed to find games that instill more emotion than thatgamecompany. Flower made me think about so much, about the environment particularly. In the beauty there is also much sadness in Flower, and I'm guessing reviewers felt it to. Not every game has to be lengthy to make its message.
@BorderlineJon that's a fair point, maybe I'm just not in tune with my emotional side when it comes to gaming (apart form final fantasy 10 and last guardian).
Don't get me wrong though I did enjoy their games especially abzu
@playstation_king I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. Some games require a different way of thinking that most games don't to get the most of them. For me the game that really highlighted this was BotW... I have been so used to the linearity with even open world games which basically way point you through the whole experience that I bounced off the game 3 times before finally getting it. Things felt too vague and open and it took me a while to kind of forget that and just decide to do my own thing. Exploring is something that is frequently a smoke screen in games but with BotW I truly could, and for a while I just felt lost, until I stopped worrying and started just letting go and not worrying about objectives. It's a much more fun game to just enjoy discovering things and I stayed firmly away from any pointers. Demon's/Dark Souls also did this, though through more linear means.
@mother_brain_85
Exactly
@Ulysses It will likely be a disappointment after Journey. They are trying to give a beautiful game an annoyingly forced experience. Sky would be fun to play if it was just a paid game. They messed up with requiring in game purchases and releasing through Apple.
Or just play them both on Mobile.
Ski got MFi, PS4, and Xbox One controller support back in September.
@mother_brain_85 maybe we should start a petition?
PLEASE! It's such a pretty game, but my phone's screen isn't the best place for it. I'd love it on the Switch
@Ulysses thanks, if I can wrestle the kids away from the PS4 I will try and get a play on that!
Reading this made me realise that I'm really surprised that Journey hasn't been put on switch, It seems like a no brainer. I absolutely adore that game.
It looks almost identical to Journey to me.
@Shambo Cross-system purchase is incredibly rare. In almost all cases you must buy the title on multiple platforms. Cross-platform saves on the other hand are relatively common and I would expect to see it here. All it takes is for the dev or publisher to code for player data to be stored on their own service and have a login separate from the console/platform usernames.
@Dezzy It definitely has some of Journey's DNA in it, but it's a dramatically different game. It's more about co-operating with random players than just seeing them as you wander quietly.
@necrite13 @KIRO Journey is also on iPhone. It’d be amazing if we see a Cuphead / Ori and the Blind Forest situation and get a surprise Switch port. Unlikely, for sure, but stranger things and all that.
"Although it wasn't released on a Nintendo platform, it was still a beautifully crafted title."
Yeah, surprising as it is, other platforms get good games too, you know.
I am excited to see Sky on a large screen.
One day games are going to be completely mobile dominate, with consoles holding on by threads. This is a gaming world I would ever want to be in, and it’s the day I quit gaming. Mobile gaming has been on the rise with literally everyone having a phone it’s a big money making market. I give it 10 years tops before this happens
Would be great but don't like the monetization on it. Works, I guess, on mobile but not sure on a console.
This game is rammed with in-app purchases on iOS, so much so that it destroys every last gram of enjoyment that might otherwise have been extracted. If they can disinfect it then perhaps there's a good game beneath, but I have my doubts, as in my admittedly brief time with it, it seemed to revolve around aimlessly collecting things.
One thing is certain - this is not in any way on the same level as Journey.
@Dezzy Visually similar, but as a game its worlds apart. And vastly inferior.
Looks very nice. I would like it on Switch and Journey.
