CANNOT EVEN EXPRESS HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THIS GAME!!!
In all sincerity, especially after this video addressed my last concerns re: the battle system, this is probably the Switch game that has excited me most since Breath of the Wild. Finally a proper successor to The Thousand Year Door (one of the greatest games of all time, IMHO).
My only complaint with the Hamster games is that you have to close out of the game to go back to a spot-save. Yes, it is on me for not being good enough to beat some of the more brutal titles authentically sans spot save. But if you are offering the feature, might as well make it more user friendly.
How does this compare to Enchanted Castle? I have beaten that game twice, and while I enjoy the platforming and charming world design, I find the rocks-paper-scissors mechanic extremely vexing (one of the best uses of the rewind function in the Genesis classics collection on Switch).
I absolutely LOVED the Wonder Boy remake on Switch. Beyond being simply gorgeous in remastered form and richly enjoyable substantively, the ability to flip back-and-forth was a real treat. So that functionality alone may be enough to draw me to the title. I appreciate those efforts to both preserve video game history while providing an enhanced experience to people revisiting the game or looking for more "polished" visuals.
I am happy to see so much love for Sunshine. I always felt that game was criminally overlooked as one of the luminaries of the franchise (to be fair, it has a lot of stalwart competition).
@NEStalgia and @Heavyarms55 — Thank you both for taking the time to provide me with further food for thought (a veritable FEAST for thought in the case of @NEStalgia). I will mull it over in terms of the order (XC2 has the edge in so far as I already own it), but I definitely plan on and look forward to playing both! Just have a bit of a backlog before then....
3D world + yoshi please. I have my Zeldas on GCube and Wii. I would throw some love to Star Fox, but I heard that game was something of a mess (although scanning above it seems that the biggest complaint was with the controls, not the substance).
My biggest Wii U request would be to make all of the games available on Virtual Console available on Switch, but I know that's never happening because why would Nintendo want to make easy money?
Currently playing through Glover for the first time and a) enjoying it quite a bit and b) feeling nostalgic for those collectathon 3D platforming days.
I never played this on Wii and own but have not started the Switch sequel. Should I buy / play this first, or is it okay to start with the sequel and then come back to this title?
My "I know it's gonna happen, but wouldn't it be cool" dream is Chaotix on Switch. I periodically toy with dropping a fair amount of coin to get the 32X adapter and then another sizeable chunk o' change for the cartridge, but it really shouldn't be that hard to play any Sonic game.
@DawgP Combat is turn-based in Origami King, no? Seems to me that it should be a return to form, though I confess that I never played the most recent two installments (which I understand to have abandoned the turn-based format so as not to be duplicative of Mario & Luigi titles, right?).
But I liked your comment because I think your assessment as to the first 3 games is spot-on. Thousand Year Door is one of my absolute favorite games.
@Shinobi1Kenoby Seems like it's never going to happen, and I haven't tracked how many of the Genesis Minis were sold (great little dude), but it strains credulity that there wouldn't be nostalgia buyers lining up around the block to grab a Dreamcast 2. I guess maybe that's not enough — kids today wouldn't have that draw and there are only so many retro gamer pseudo-adults like myself willing to open their wallets.
Although the Sonic movie did make a lot of money....
Since 90% of the games I hear about I learn about from your site first, and since virtually 100% of the time I check the site for its review before I purchase a game, it's going to be hard for me to find one I own and have played that you all missed! But I commend this effort and look forward to what the readership community comes up with! Thanks, NL!
I try to motivate myself to beat games by saying "I will only play one game that was originally released on ___ console." Means I have a hefty list of games I rotate between at any given time (since I can play on Switch or 3DS games ported thereto for consoles that I don't own), but also means that as much as I'm itching to get to ____ NES game, I have to beat the one I'm on before I move on.
So far I have played some Game Boy Color Mario Golf courtesy of the lovely 3DS Virtual Console. I am hoping to make a significant dent in the original Final Fantasy on Wii Virtual Console, as well as get back to Kirby's Dream Land 3 (been really pleasantly surprised) and Neutopia (just beat A Link between Worlds, so time for the next retro hacker-and-slasher) via the same service. If time permits, I have a few titles I'm either struggling mightily with (Vs. Excitebike, Castlevania, the [bleep]ing devil truck in Clustertruck), slowly-but-surely churning through (World of Goo, Worms W.M.D.), or delighting in bonus content / a second playthrough for (the truly excellent Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Night in the Woods) on Switch.
Worms WMD, World of Goo, Vs. Excitebike, Castlevania, not sure what else. Sister in law is one for my wife’s birthday, and she loves Mario Kart / Mario Party, so maybe some of that.
@Crono1973 Agreed. It only makes sense if you think everyone is thinking about owning multiple systems to suit their various needs. Would that we could all be so fortunate. For people who are in the market for a console and, as of right now, own none of the current gen consoles, I would venture to guess that the majority are not so flush that they can pony up for a Switch and whichever other console they want as their more powerful piece of stay-at-home hardware. So they have to pick — and when they pick, they're almost certainly picking between Switch / PS4 / Xbox One. I.e., they are each other's chief competitors.
Interviewer: Are the two companies everybody else thinks of as your competitors — and who very clearly sell a lot more consoles than you — your main competitor?
Microsoft: Nope, definitely not, it's these two other guys who have barely entered the market. You should compare us to them — oh, wow, look how great we're doing! Geez, how fortuitous!

This title looks fantastic. A nice way to whet the appetite prior to Paper Mario landing on Switch.

These are some high quality free titles. As @Daniel36 said, thank you, NL!
Re: Random: Every Nintendo 64 Game Ever Released Would Fit Onto A Single Switch Cartridge
@Travisemo007 loved those Bomberman games. Also I could see Glover creeping out a kid. But I’m enjoying it as an adult. Very fun mechanics.

Might be the prettiest game on Switch. WHY IS IT NOT JULY YET?????
Re: Nintendo Download: 14th May (North America)
Wonderful 101 tempts me, but with Paper Mario coming in July, time for me to finally buy Sticker Star so I am as up-to-date on the series as I can be.
Re: Paper Mario Is Coming To Switch! Paper Mario: The Origami King To Launch This July
I will instantly buy this. I love this series. I spent more hours than the game could count on The Thousand Year Door.

(But yeah, I voted for Japan, which - wait for it - rocks, man.)

Mario Golf for game boy color, Mario Kart 7, maybe captain toad treasure tracker and la noire.
