Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?

pipes

If you can let go of that need to 'buy and play games when they come out to stay on top of the latest' and just get games as time allows after you've completed one, it really free's you up mentally & financially. Especially since once you're ready to buy the next one, the game is likely on sale or available used. I know dev's need to make a profit, but there's just too much out there for people to realistically keep up with it all and still have a life outside of gaming.

Game Pass type services also, IMO, ruin your enjoyment of games since at first instance of something you don't like about a game, you jump to the next and never truly give a game a chance. I doubt developers get much from these services either.

Oh, and let's not forget that games are also getting longer and longer. That trend is also going to be detrimental to buying more games.

Re: Fast Fusion Launch Trailer Gives Us Our Best Look At Switch 2 Gameplay

pipes

@ArcticEcho I suppose, but with having a name like Fast Fusion and clearly being shown as a stopgap until another F-Zero is released, I would imagine that the marketing should reflect it as an alternative.

I hope it's a good game, but the lack of high speed visuals was a bit of a turn off for my first impression. Realistic graphics aren't as important when when reaction times are critical and things are passing you by as a blur.

Re: Nintendo Store Outlines Switch 2 Launch Events For New York And San Francisco

pipes

To be totally honest, if it wasn’t for F-Zero GX being on the Switch 2, I would not be considering one at this time. I’d still get one eventually, but it could easily be a couple of years. Especially if GameCube would have been announced on Switch 1. It’s nice and all, but hard to justify the $450 for what games I can get on other consoles - and cheaper too since they’ll be on sale due to being out so long now versus the Switch 2 premium cost for “new” games.

Was really hoping the new system would differentiate itself a bit more from the current one. 4K isn’t enough and most games already run pretty good on Switch 1 since they weren’t intended for a high end console. Switch 2 should have cooked a bit longer tbh.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss On Switch 2's Name: Nintendo Created So Much "Brand Value"

pipes

I still think it should have been called the Super Switch, however, I wonder if it maybe has to do with it possibly not being as much of a jump going from Switch 1 to Switch 2 as we saw going from NES to SNES. Does this imply that here will be a Switch 3 and so on? Is this the overall general form factor that Nintendo has converged on for the foreseeable future?

Re: Poll: How Much Internal Storage Would Be Reasonable For 'Switch 2'?

pipes

@Serpenterror I believe we are thinking along the same lines. The whole system needs to be revamped and take advantage of proven/common standards. It can't just be a spec bump with a faster processor. The Super Switch needs to be an improvement on the Switch and needs to stay relevant for another 5 to 10 years. It would be a shame if they stick with slower tech as the whole system was essentially outdated when it came out. It's amazing what they've done with what they have but they would bring more developers onboard if the system was more capable. I was honestly shocked when I found out it had USB-C when it first came out.

Companies shoot for less than ideal so that they can upcharge you. So ideal would be 1TB which means they likely will go with 256GB and hopefully have SKU's for 512GB & 1TB. If this will allow full backwards compatibility, they need to account for people's large libraries and large file sizes for future NSO games (like Game Cube or Wii). Hopefully they'll drop the Micro SDXC and move to M.2 SSD's for expansion.

Re: Video: Nintendo Explains How To Download Paid DLC In New Switch Online + Expansion Pack Guide

pipes

@Vonsparrow @Bass_X0 Agreed, for that price, they need to really bump up the offerings. TG-16, Game Cube, and maybe Saturn support would make it a must have (even though initial offerings would be slim) making the Switch the perfect indie/retro console. Over time, the growth of the library would make it easy to justify a continued subscription. They need to show a little more hustle before players turn their wallets to other consoles like the Steam Deck.

Re: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Calls For Industry-Wide Support Of Game Preservation Via Emulation

pipes

There should be an open-source industry standard to create a format that can be analogous to a vector file (you can always resize and not lose quality) to remake all of the 2D and 3D models and images in a format that can easily scale into the future so that porting and emulation won't be necessary even 20 years from now. It would be a massive task so it would require volunteers but over time, all of those assets would be recorded in a format that can last forever and reused in other projects.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

pipes

Vote with your wallets. This whole mess started because people were willing to pay Microsoft for online play on Xbox back in the day when it was free everywhere else. There’s a point where they’ll charge to recoup costs and make a profit and then there’s a point where they’ll charge because they know people will pay it. The original NSO promised regular release of new games and now they’re going back on that.

Re: Video: Why Didn't Square Enix Port The Kingdom Hearts Collection To Switch?

pipes

The concerns make sense but it’s not an impossible task if they think long term. They could do a “remake” combining the storylines of the three into one while at the same time modernizing the visuals and sharing a lot of the models saving significant space. Modernizing it would also allow it to live longer for future platform ports. On top of that, there’s new players every year as kids get old enough to play, so a video game with Disney characters will always be making money. It’s short term thinking that’s the problem.

Re: Talking Point: Every Pre-BOTW 3D Zelda Now Has A Remake, But Which Is Best?

pipes

I wonder if the plan is to have all Zelda’s on the Switch before BOTW 2 comes out. Would be nice to get an All-Stars or Complete Collection edition later on with additional content and extras similar to the Mega Man, Street Fighter, or Konami collections and include the BOTW versions as well. Maybe this could be something for the Super Switch or whatever the next console Nintendo releases.
