Re: US Law Firm Opens "Switch Joy-Con Drift" Class Action Investigation

nintendork64

I've never had this issue personally on my Joy-Con, but for those who do (and for when my luck with them inevitably runs out), I'm hoping this lawsuit does something. I'm the biggest Nintendo fan on the planet (how many 34 year olds can you name that have a Super Mario throw on their bed?), but this issue absolutely needs to be addressed!

Re: Doug Bowser Says Nintendo Is "Closely Watching" Streaming Technologies

nintendork64

@Kalmaro @Heavyarms55 It does work great, I use it myself (and I also work in IT, so it's nice to see another skeptical IT person here).

I do think it's worth pointing out that it streams in 6bit color to reduce bandwidth, so you're going to notice some color inaccuracies and such. Not to say it's a bad service or that you'll hate it because of it, but just wanted to point this out.

Re: Use Fortnite Chat In Docked Mode With This Officially Licensed Switch Pad

nintendork64

@frabbit @redd214 or just get a Bluetooth 3.5 mm adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receiver-Simultaneously/dp/B01EHSX28M/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=3.5mm+bluetooth+adapter&qid=1563288947&s=gateway&smid=A2KUZVNQ9LP7N9&sr=8-3

Or just use the Nintendo app voice chat with a Bluetooth headset and your phone plugged into the wall for constant power. Seriously, we're making it way more complicated than it needs to be here.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Lite Might Not Be For You, But It Will Be A Smash Hit With My Family

nintendork64

@ReaperExTenebris I kind of do like the idea of a console only if they're going to release the Lite for handheld only. Makes sense, even if it also contradicts the original idea behind the Switch. With a console only, Nintendo can focus on a more robust experience — more storage, better performance, etc — and still allow it to hook up to the Switch / Switch Lite via Nintendo Accounts for on the go gaming.

Re: Switch Lite Reveal Sees Nintendo Shares Soar To Highest Point In Nine Months

nintendork64

@carlos82 In addition to my previous comment (sorry these are so long), I would have preferred if Nintendo added some exclusive hardware / software to the Lite. Like, say, a sensor a la 3DS so you can walk around and randomly "bump into" other Switch Lite owners on the road (Pokemon GO kind of thing). For me, that would easily justify a purchase of both systems. One for standard on-the-go and TV use, and the other for hooking up with other Switch Lite users and gaining content, items, etc. Then when you got home, you can use the content you obtained on the road with your standard system.

I don't know, maybe I'm being weird and picky, but I think it would have been cool to have the Lite be a sort of "companion" to the main Switch.

Re: Switch Lite Reveal Sees Nintendo Shares Soar To Highest Point In Nine Months

nintendork64

@carlos82 Yeah definitely see the appeal, don't get me wrong, but it just strikes me as odd that they omitted even a kickstand, which would at least allow table-top mode (and the "Switch" moniker would make sense). I've mentioned before that yes, a case will inevitably be released that will include a kickstand, but my brain just can't wrap itself around the logic!

I can definitely understand not wanting a TV hookup. I play mine 75% in handheld mode (and the 25% is usually during multiplayer sessions with my fiancee on Mario Party or Mario Kart).

I can definitely understand not caring about rumble or the IR sensor and camera. The only time I've ever used these are when my fiancee got her Labo set.

Just seems weird to omit a kickstand. I can't imagine it would have been a big expense, especially after sacrificing the unnecessary stuff.

Re: Switch Lite Reveal Sees Nintendo Shares Soar To Highest Point In Nine Months

nintendork64

@carlos82 After thinking about it, I've got to agree with @Heavyarms55. And here's why:

With every new "re-iteration" of their systems (with the exceptions of the 2DS, the Gen 2 Wii and Wii Lite, but we will not speak of such awful things), Nintendo has always ADDED or IMPROVED functionality. Look at DS Lite (which made the screens far brighter and the system beautiful but still carried the Lite name), DSi, New Nintendo 3DS, etc.

Releasing the Switch Lite is like releasing the Star Wars prequels, which were also awful. I'm not saying there's not a market for it, but it begs the question as to why Nintendo didn't stick with the core reason to call it a "Switch" in the first place. At least including a kickstand would allow you to say you can "switch" to table top mode. Now it's just as confusing as the marketing for the Wii U for the average consumer, who might be calling Nintendo customer service asking how exactly to hook it up to a TV (which they obviously can't).

Re: Gallery: Here's What The Nintendo Switch Lite Looks Like

nintendork64

@Heavyarms55 You're right, of course. Playing devil's advocate for this thing doesn't really work well. The only advantage it has over the original is the fact that the games will appear slightly sharper on the 0.5" smaller screen since they are the same resolution and so the dpi would be increased.

Re: Gallery: Here's What The Nintendo Switch Lite Looks Like

nintendork64

@rjejr Right! At least a kickstand would have been nice. I'm waiting for the inevitable launch of Nintendo's "kickstand case" for the Switch Lite so they can say they added additional functionality (even though they'd basically be just putting it back). A kickstand case would at least make the table top mode work.

Re: Gallery: Here's What The Nintendo Switch Lite Looks Like

nintendork64

@SegaBlueSky @HeavyArms55 and technically, you can still call it a "Switch" since you can hook up Joy-Con and "switch" to a sort of table top mode. I know it's a stretch, but then, the market for this thing is primarily children and people who enjoy playing in handheld only, not for power users who like the premium version of the Switch.

Re: Nintendo Acknowledges Switch Mini Rumours, Says It Is "Always" Developing New Hardware

nintendork64

@sanderev Technically, seeing as how the Switch is essentially a combination of the technologies of all of Nintendo's systems thus far, development on the Switch started way back in the 80's with the development of the NES. From a system standpoint, I wouldn't be surprised if development of the Switch itself started even before Wii was released.

Regarding the topic at hand, this Switch Mini idea is just terrible. It would be better from a business standpoint to lower the price of the current version and release a "Pro" version so all Joy-Con compatibility is retained. Releasing a system without the Joy-Con option is just stupid and goes against everything the Switch stands for.

Re: Taiwanese Memory Chip Supplier Reports Stronger Than Expected Demand From Nintendo

nintendork64

@Pod Actually, Nintendo Switch units are NOT sold at a loss. Nintendo makes money on each one sold: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/10/nintendo_switch_wont_be_sold_at_a_loss_two_million_units_to_ship_in_time_for_march

That was at launch, so you can bet they're making even more now due to technology's natural drop in cost over time. I would imagine they're making anywhere from ~$50 to ~$100 on each one sold.

Re: It Looks Like The Final Japanese 3DS Title Has Been Canned

nintendork64

@RootsGenoa And when it has all the cool features that 3DS and Wii U had. Being able to take my Switch with me to randomly and wirelessly hook up to other Switch systems a la 3DS StreetPass would make the Switch a true replacement for it. As for Wii U, even it had video calling. And I still haven't forgiven Nintendo for getting rid of PictoChat / Swapnote.

Re: Video: Learn How To Make Your Very Own Doug Bowser amiibo

nintendork64

I'd make an amiibo of myself and make up some elaborate story about how I'm really famous in Japan for doing some really incredibly awesome top secret undercover stuff. Stuff so awesome that all the ladies love me and all the men worship me, so they wanted to honor me with an amiibo of my very own.

... it may or may not be just after 4:30am here.

Re: Breath Of The Wild's Sequel Came From Having Too Many DLC Ideas, Aonuma Says

nintendork64

@KoopaTheGamer I do agree with @Swaz somewhat though, even though I've been playing Zelda since the original on NES, which is the only game that actually doesn't start from before you defeat Ganon. It actually starts you on the Master Quest (without having to use the name "ZELDA" at the character creation screen. After you beat the Master Quest, it does not reset. Ganon is simply not there, while everything else is the same (like all other bosses in every other dungeon).

In Breath of the Wild, I kind of felt like it was pointless to go through all the trouble to defeat Ganon and will certainly not do it more than the one time I did. I think it would have been great to have the game evolve so that even after defeating Ganon, the Guardians become more unpredictable on their own, making them harder to defeat.

Re: Review: Radiation City - A Bug-Ridden Clone Of DayZ That's Laughably Overpriced

nintendork64

@suikoden Couldn't have said it better myself.

I remember buying Game Boy games for $50+ and they were of mediocre quality compared to modern games (although at the time it was arguably worth it). Kids nowadays just don't understand how lucky they are.

On topic, I was really hoping this game would be great. Unfortunately, this is one game I'll have to remove from my wishlist.
