Re: Nintendo To Market Mario Kart 8 Through The End Of The Year

ledreppe

I can see a sales spike for the Wii U hardware, and perhaps a small increase in average monthly sales for a while, due to MK8. But the Wii U's situation is more serious than what 1 AAA game can do to turn it around. SSB4 won't be out until year's end, and a similar sales performance will repeat itself. Even 2 first party AAA titles (that we know of) about 6-7 months apart isn't going to have the much needed effect on the Wii U's sales compared to PS4 and X1, they're pumping out enough AAA 3rd party games to keep the needed momentum in sales up.

Re: GameStop Plans to Close Around 120 Stores in the Coming Year

In the UK we have GAME, they have the same practises as GameStop. I never shop there as a result, I also live far away from my nearest shop so internet ordering is more convenient anyway. I also find the best deals online anyway, so I have no incentive what so ever to trek to a high street chain.

@XCWarrior

Yes, and 2/3 of the way into development most of the ones I backed decided it would be financially better to split the game in half, and start selling the first half to non-backers before the backers had played it, even though some of them had 1.5 times the funding they needed.

I really am hesitant to use kickstarter anymore. I've only had 1 positive experience with it so far, and that game required the least funding out of the 3.

I'll probably get shot down for this, but I don't like the way the 3 PC games I've backed have turned out. The developers claimed they ran out of money even though they had reached their goals up to 1.5 times over, so they split the full game and released it in 2 halves. To rub salt in the wound they then made the 1st part available to non-backers and began selling it before the full game was available to the backers. I don't mind them selling it to non-backers, but not before the backers have played the whole game, and not using it to fund the rest of the game so the backers can then play it.

I refuse to back any more until promises can be made that budgets will be properly made and adhered to, otherwise it's a joke of a way to develop a game, and joke of a way for a gamer to buy.

Was hoping Scram Kitty would come out this week. Oh well, maybe next week. Got both VC games, already got Duck Tales (maybe shoud've waited for price drop though), getting Hobbit on disc and don't care for Batman.

In the meantime: nothing for me.

I'm not happy with the 2 of the 3 kick-starters I have on PC. They're all point 'n' click adventure games, and I don't like having them split in 2 and released at different times, because of budget and time constraints. I would rather have the whole game to play at once. Another thing that annoys me, is when the games are sold to non backers, when the promise at the start was that the backers were the funders of the game. This is a bear face lie, and not what I was expecting.

I may continue to fund projects, but it would depend on what's being promised next time around, I will be more weary in future.

Re: Wii U System Update 4.1.0 Available Now

"Just how stable can the Wii U get?", not stable enough for me that's what! I've been getting freeze's in nearly every game (about 14 of them) since launch day, and still it happens after 3 major updates, Nintendo get it sorted!

Re: Exclusive: Nintendo Developing "Virtual U" VR Platform to Rival Sony's Morpheus and Oculus Rift

Even if it's an April Fool's Joke, I'm not taken in by the VR 'craze' that is sweeping other console manufacturer's. It's another '3D is cool' craze, and as you have witnessed with the 3DS it petered out and ultimately wasn't a selling factor. In the end it was the quality of the games, that eventually arrived, that sold the system.

I'm old enough to remember the VR craze of the early 90's, and I wasn't convinced then, it died out back then and I honestly don't think it's going to change the gaming world in any meaningful way now.

Passing up on this week. Tried super star saga before and didn't finish it, that's all that would interest me. Besides, I'm still playing Layton V Wright, and want to SMK Time Trial this week, so really busy otherwise.

@SamiCetinSMK

I've spoken to you through the SMK website regarding using a PAL copy on a Super Famicom through an adapter. I've been busy with other games since, but will be giving it a serious attempt next week, and hopefully get a full set of times emailed by then. Thanks for your input, I'm sure I'll learn a thing or two about improving my technique in the near future.
