Re: Zelda: BOTW Switch 2 Edition Won't Include The DLC, Nintendo Confirms

kid_keo

@garfreek I’m totally with you.

Was on board with the console price, expensive but reasonable. Everything is going up in price and imo we’ve had it sweet in the game industry for a long time.

Same logic applies to MKW, I will be sinking so much time into it and feels it’s justified but pricey.

But this? Can’t defend it. Another example - Kirby and the forgotten land and its DLC. How on EARTH is the switch 2 version priced at what it is? It’s already a short experience with a paper thin DLC on top they’ve added to try and justify shifting an old switch 1 game at a ridiculous price. Slightly different nuance than this BOTW chat, but what I’m saying is I hate the variable pricing model of the switch 2 editions by and large. It’s really let me down and clearly isn’t fair.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Priced At $449.99 For The Base Console

@CutchuSlow I get what you're saying but you're presenting it as black and white when it isn't. I own a PS5 and I love it, but it does not have the nintendo first party exclusives that I value much more on the whole than PS5 exclusives, plus the portability factor and the performance options on offer are really quite strong (120 FPS and 1080 or 4K and 60 FPS) which is battling with the much more expensive ROG ally without any exclusives. There is then the portability factor which is a huge thing for people - to unlock that on the PS5 you're paying for an expensive peripheral (PS Portal) which takes you well over that price. And yes I get that PS5 graphics etc are better than what the switch 2 has on offer, but the experience of portability is FAR inferior and unreliable compared to a straight up portable console. I feel this very much right now as I'm on holiday in portugal and it's touch or go just to log in to my PS5 to get playing.

This isn't meant to be a counterpoint argument to what you are saying, again I really, really do understand your point and can identify with it, but at the price point presented in the direct (for UK, where I'm from) for what you are getting, there is so much more to it than going like for like with the base PS5, imho. I think subjectively it is a reasonable price based on my tastes and expectations. I hope you have a great time on the switch 2 whenever you grab it if you end up getting one

Re: 'Mario Kart World' Looks Absolutely Awesome In Debut Switch 2 Trailer

kid_keo

@Fizza I feel exactly the same. it's not a game I ever find myself immersed in and thinking about e.g. at work when I'm hooked on a game and can't get enough. However, the 'forza horizon x diddy kong racing' open world/ adventure mode vibe + the fact you can customise your character allows for there to be deeper layers that I feel will unlock that in me.

Day 1 just for MK which I didn't think I'd say. Roll on the MK direct to learn more!

Re: Digital Foundry Digs Into Switch 2's 4K Upscaling Potential As Patents Inspire More Speculation

@AussieMcBucket I totally get what you are saying but remember this didn’t happen in a vacuum; they know that we all know about the leaks. The announcement reeked of them making a single cutdown video to get something out as a simple, quick way of closing the lid on the basic news they have a new console and “owning it” (or attempting to) knowing full well how accurate the leaks were. I don’t think we would have seen an announcement until the end of q1 otherwise. It’s painful I know as its a long wait til April but it’s clear they are holding so much back and only got that very basic info out when they did as a knee jerk reaction to their hand being forced. They know we will speculate (likely correctly) cos they know how accurate the leaks were.

Also everyone is complaining about them taking too long (again which I get) but there is the argument they are struggling to get the parts they need at the right price so that they can release the console at a fair Nintendo-y price rather than a higher price and launch it sooner (which they are in no rush to do as the switch is absolutely killing it this gen for them).

Roll on April! It’s going to be great. Promise.

Re: Celeste Dev Makes "Difficult Decision" To Cancel New Game Earthblade

@rvcolem1 exactly this. I completely agree. Getting so annoyed at people getting mad when they don’t understand that everyone (even this site… shock horror!) needs to make money and need to gravitate to what will get views and clicks and (shock horror again!) might actually be what the collective care about more on balance than this story, albeit I’m sad that this has happened. I’m not advocating click bait articles but in the same breath to say this should have been covered more than the switch 2 leaks is just plain naive and in many ways neglectful too - classic case of damned if you do or damned if you don’t. I’ve been reading this site for 15 years plus and I’m just so sick of people asking what they think are cutting, clever questions when really they just have no understanding or perspective and are just playing to a very vocal minority, not what’s realistic or fair imho. Minority being the operative word in that sentence. I don’t usually get involved as much as this and lurk normally; happily reading the comments but I just felt so frustrated by this I had to comment. I love this community, despite the frustration I’m feeling this is born from a good place - I just think NL gets way too much heat unfairly for totally logical commercial decisions, with these complaints being a prime example.

Re: Celeste Dev Makes "Difficult Decision" To Cancel New Game Earthblade

kid_keo

@squidduforeal your comment in my opinion is ridiculous, despite me understanding your frustration. This is sad news for sure but it’s beyond unrealistic to assume they wouldn’t cover leaks of the next gen console from Nintendo more than this lol. Like come on. People would be going crazy if they didn’t despite the very small, vocal user base of the commenters that can get mad about the leaks. You need to get a grip dude

Re: 'Nintendo Music' Is A New Mobile App Exclusive To Switch Online Members

kid_keo

@NielsNL do you honestly not think they would have considered this before going through all of the effort of making a dedicated app? They are essentially the only video game company in the industry who has their pricing model figured out in 2024 so it would be a stretch to assume they hadn’t thought about this. They clearly weighed it up and think it’s better investing into and building their sub service. The streams don’t outweigh the value they can generate from the subs, which is a more strategic long term play for them. Whether you agree with that or not is fine but they clearly see value in that. More to the point, I work in the music industry. It is a terrible comparison comparing the major label and catalogue business models and how they make money from streaming apps (which rely on one artist going stratospheric and leaving the rest to die to make their dough because streams pay so pitifully) than to Nintendo and how they’d use the app, which would be fundamentally less valuable imo compared to driving more value into the sub. It’s fine to be frustrated if you wish they made that move for you personally, but you shouldn’t mix that up with it making strategic business sense and arguing with people about it when it’s clear you don’t really know what you’re talking about lol.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th July)

kid_keo

This weekend is all about speed!

Continuing my analogue pocket binge over the last month, this weekend I have so far finished sonic advance and moved on the f-zero: GP Legends where I’m just finishing up story mode. Just managed to crack the notoriously hard Black Shadow mission so I should be home free!

To keep on theme I’ll be gaming whilst watching the formula one on the telly hoping McLaren take home the 1, 2 win in Belgium.

If I have time I’ll probs jump into fzero 99 to see how I fare.

Happy gaming all.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th July)

kid_keo

I’ve been on holiday this week and have made the most of my analogue pocket.

Just completed Mario tennis on the GBA a few days ago (extremely underrated tennis rpg!)

I also finished Metroid zero mission, which I absolutely loved a few days ago too.

And lastly completed Mario advance 1 this morning!

I’m now on to Fzero gp legend for the rest of the weekend.

Happy gaming all.

Re: Random: The 'Pokémon-With-Guns' Game On Steam Is Yet More Homework Copying

kid_keo

@JohnnyMind yeah I agree. It’s marketed as Pokemon with guns because that’s a great PR hook, but looking deeper at the game today I realised it is its own thing and that hook only summarises a very small part of the experience. I’m going to dive in and try it. I also think TPC will never do what they are doing so it’s a constructive way to bring this very starved genre forwards especially for a more adult audience. I enjoy all TPC games but I do think there are merits to this taking off.

Re: Review: Golden Sun - A Radiant RPG, Once It Gets Going

@Fizza just wanted to say that your comments are always so positive and full of enthusiasm, it always makes me smile reading them and reminds me of why I love gaming. There is sometimes a lot of cynicism in the comments sections and it’s refreshing seeing your approach by contrast! That is all 🙈Lol

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet To Fix 'Dragon Cheer' Bug In Next Update

kid_keo

I was fine on my play through of SV but I have been STRUGGLING with how ugly this game is and how poorly it runs post revisiting the DLC after getting used to TOTK. However I’ve got a shiny H arcanine bred especially for the DLC so I will finish it regardless. Hopefully things pick up after the teal mask, because it has been a snorefest so far

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (Christmas 2023 Edition)

kid_keo

Finally rolled credits on Digimon survive and today was a great Xmas eve spent with the family playing switch sports, trombone champ, moving out and the MK booster course tracks. For once we didn’t play overcooked. I also dived into fzero 99 for the first time today and absolutely loved it!

I’ve been arguing with myself on whether I start FE Engage as my main game over the Xmas break or the Violet DLC, decisions decisions!

Merry Xmas and happy gaming all.

Re: Your 'Nintendo Switch Year In Review 2023' Stats Are Available Now

kid_keo

489 hours in total, 11 games.

241 in TOTK (loved every minute of it and so pleased I got my fill before my son arrived!)

173 in violet (mostly spent building a shiny competitive team, competitive play and shiny hunting, looking forward to diving into the dlc this Xmas with them)

34 hours in Digimon survive (liked this a lot more than I thought and was a great game to refresh me after TOTK insanity for most of the year)

Elsewhere, 73 hours on PS5 for P5R and I feel like I’ve still got ALOT of game left 😅

What a year for gaming!
