Churning through my 3ds backlog still. I will hopefully finish Codename STEAM this weekend as I’m on the penultimate level and I have surprisingly enjoyed this game - it didn’t get enough love but unless being played on a ‘New’ system it really does suffer from performance issues.
Sprinkle that with a healthy dose of Xenoblade 3D and I call that a good weekend.
The wife has finally allowed me to buy a Switch at the end of the year.
As a result I am churning through my 3ds back catalogue. After completing Dragon Quest 7 last week I am splitting my time between Mario and Luigi Dream Team and Fire Emblem Warriors - two very different games!
@MH4 Everyone knows about the controls, but your memory muscle will get used to it.
However it is the story which I found intense. I experienced Uprising without any spoilers and it remains one of my top experiences on the 3ds and hopefully you will enjoy it too!
I’ll be continuing my final grind in Dragon Quest 7 for 3DS (with my aim to finish the game by next weekend) but I’m also going to enjoy Steam World Dig 2 which I just got on Nintendo Europe’s digital sale.
At around £80, when bundled with Mariokart 7 the regular 2DS is just so accessible. And it is no bad thing as every time a system is sold that is one more person introduced to the world of Nintendo.
I will finally get a Switch at the end of the year and I cannot wait. But in the meanwhile I have been thrilled with the 3DS and its stellar library and I am churning through my back log of quality games.
The 3DS has had a fantastic run and (being in its twighlight) there are so many games going cheap for cheap as retailers are basically dumping their stock - I picked up Mario and Luigi Dream Team and Paper Jam for under £25, brand new!
Even the discounts on the e-shop are shockingly good. I took a punt on Stella Glow, which is my first Atlus game for the system. I will be enjoying my 3DS for a long while to come.
I still have not yet jumped on the Switch bandwagon, as at the moment I am happily catching up on my 3ds backlog. Plus I travel a hell of a lot so the durability of the 3ds vs current Switch has made me reluctant to jump ship
Saying that, the Mini version that is portable friendly but able to dock into the tv via an accessory is certainly a purchase I will make.
A lot of people have a death wish for the 3DS which I find puzzling. Without this little console, all of us Nintendo fans could be looking at a SEGA type situation with the Wii U’s failure.
The 3DS has kept Nintendo in the game as a console maker. This doesn’t take anything away from the Switch and its success; but in an unglamorous way, the 3DS kept the investors off Nintendo’s back and allowed them to create the Switch.
I agree that the 3DS is on its last legs, but it has had a great run and I still play it now. I will be picking up my back catalogue before they run out of stock and will enjoy this bundle of joy for a while to come
Nintendo U.K’s website have a bargain offer - a New 2DS XL plus three games for £130
I took the dip and finally upgraded from my original 3DS - to basically get three free games couldn’t be sniffed at.
But I reckon that at these prices, Nintendo are clearing their stock and by Summer will focus solely on the Switch - Nintendo do not normally offer such heavy discounts.
They will still sell 3DS games (as the install base is huge) but they will market them through the e-shop rather than physical - just look how long the Wii Shop lasted for.
Anyway, got a SNES Mini for myself this Christmas (before it gets discontinued) and Suoer Mario RPG has had the most gameplay.
Loving this game - and no as a European never had this when I was younger. I would be definitely interested in a remake, but I cannot see it happening.
@Emperor-Palpsy I agree, Nintendo has the right idea pushing the 2DS as a cheaper alternative. There are a lot of privileged individuals on this comment thread who do not realise that a lot of families struggle with basics such as heating bills and while as parents we want to spoil our children, getting three square daily meals on the table is the priority not the high specs of modern gaming.
For the price point, the 3DS line makes video gaming accessible to poor people. And the library means that these are high quality games which are affordable to everyone, regardless of background.
I did not grow up in a rich household but remember my B&W Gameboy fondly. If it wasn’t for that system’s affordability I would never have joined my peers in the video game world.
@nintendobynature - I never played the Gameboy edition. Uprising however is a superb game. Probably the best storyline of any game ever. Let’s put it this way, I was so inspired by this game that I named my son after one of the characters.
Uprising’s control difficulties are there, but to be honest, once you get into the game, you do not notice - such is the storyline, you just want to keep playing.
Have the original model, and I've payed the heck out of it. If it was not for FE Fates then I would probably buy a New 3ds XL for the stable 3D, and for Xenoblade.
However, I also really like the 2ds. One of the youngsters in my family has one and I'm really impressed with just how comfortable it is to play and how elegantly simple the design is. Plus it is an astutely cheap way to access the 3DS and DS library.
Mr Tago was an absolute genius who gave us Layton fans so much mind bending fun. Thank you for your contribution to a great series of games and may you RIP.
I think a lot of comments have missed the point about today's direct - which was to acknowledge the 20th anniversary of Pokemon but then to whip out a quick surprise of a new game for Christmas. If it was not for yesterday's spoiler, I reckon the reception would've been far more positive.
I would upgrade from my original 3ds if there was more tempting software. Nonetheless I think the n3ds and it's xl counterpart to be a lovely piece if kit.
My sister and me played the heck out of this game when we were younger. Nothing else I played at the time affected me as much as this game did - an absolute masterpiece!
To be honest, my original 3ds works fine, so why upgrade...not just for Xenoblade, and not at that price. To upgrade, I would need a price drop, or a stonking set of exclusives.
Regarding software sales, I only bought two retail titles in 2015; Majoras's Mask and Yoshi's New Island (as it was highly discounted). That doesn't mean I've stopped playing my 3ds. Far from it, as now I'm catching up on all the great DS games I missed. In fact, I bought Okamiden for myself this Christmas instead of a 3ds game.
Once Fire Emblem and DQ comes out in Europe (ahem) I'll go back to buying 3ds titles. But for the moment, I'm enjoying catch up time with the DS library!
They could have easily done 'Dig 2' and watched the money roll in, but Image and Form were brave enough to come up with a completely new idea. I bought the game this morning, and you know what - I am really loving it! A great stocking filler and thanks for deciding to go with an original idea. Looking forward to your next game.
I've caught up with the cartoon online, and actually it's pretty good. They have some fairly adult themes running through the show. I'm going to be looking out for this one when its released in Europe.
It won't be at the top of the list, as I'm still finishing Majora, and I'm edging to get the new Fire Emblem, but I reckon I'll get it by this time next year.
Even if I am in Europe, it was good to se details of FE Fates as I'm assuming it'll be the same release format as the US version. Very pleased with the release of Dragon Quest. Those games will keep me busy in 2016! Very touching to see the tribute to Iawata at the beginning of the broadcast too.
Already have the brilliant ALBW and got Starfox for £20 in 2012. I think I'll be picking up Yoshi, especially as no other retail games interest me this side of 2016.
Warioland was really one of the best platformers on the Gameboy! I wish the 3ds got its own Warioland adventure, and I'm holding out for that possibility.
I agree whole heartedly, before the ds/wii generation, I'd forgotten about gaming. It is because of Mr Iwata's boldness in reaching beyond the 'core audience' that brought me back. RIP to a true visionary and my thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time.
Common sense tells me this should happen, as this is a new and popular IP with a cult following (I am part of that cult) that could make Nintendo a lot of money.
But it really is going to be whether Sakurai is able (health wise) and willing to make a sequel. Here's hoping for Uprising 2!

@Ardisan I think Warioland is so underrated.
I also agree some sort of love for Kid Icarus would not go amiss
Re: Get Discounts On Pokémon, Pikmin And More With The Latest My Nintendo Rewards (Europe)
You can pick up a brand new physical copy of Hey Pikmin on Amazon for £13 so this discount is simply terrible.
Hopefully around E3 there’ll be some tie-ins to games being shown.

@MH4 You are going to love this game! Kid Icarus Uprising was criminally underrated.

Kirby. Nothing else to spend my points on.

I’m off abroad this weekend so I’ll finally finish Dragon Quest VII. I’ve logged over 90 hours on my 3DS with this game over two and a bit years 🤓

Re: Get Discounts On Paper Mario, Zelda, Kirby And More With The Latest European My Nintendo Rewards

I've been eyeing up Dream Team Bros. for a while, so I'll be getting that later in the year after I finish with FE:Fates.
And OOT is an absolute steal for that price - if you have a 3ds but do not own that game, now is the time to get it!
