Whatever region you're in Nintendo has been gradually increasing the 'Nintendo Selects' range of budget retail titles. Another batch of five 3DS games has now been confirmed for Europe, due to arrive on 25th June with a price tag of €19,99 / £15.99.
The new additions do a mix of catching up with the North American offerings while adding some additional efforts of their own - the games on the way are as follows:
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
- LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins
- Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros.
- Paper Mario: Sticker Star
- Nintendo Presents: New Style Boutique

There are some strong titles there - let us know if you're planning to pick any of these up in June.

May get OoT or Dream Team Bros for that price
If anyone still has never played OoT, do yourself a favor. It looks amazing in 3D.
Dream Team and pappy mario
Ocarina is the only one that you can't already find for that price!
Paper mario and possibly Zelda
@DekuOnion
Gyroscope aiming, touch-screen inventory and the Master-quest version are also an improvement.
Are they currently £17.99, on the Nintendo eShop, reducing to £15.99 on 24th June? It says 25th in the article & 24th on the @NintendoUK tweet
@BensonUii I am pretty sure that wasn't in the best sellers. It happens..
I hope animal crossing: new leaf will be a nintendo select someday.
[insert comments about Sticker Star and Color Splash]
@MJKOP No, most of the games are currently £34.99 or £39.99.
Wow - just awesome - too bad I have them already - except Lego and the boutique.
I want PIKMIN 2
and
The Last Story
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it so hard for you nintendo!!!???!!!!
I was really hoping for Mario Kart 7 (would love to have it downloaded) but OOT is nice.
Seeing that made me feel like I judged Sticker Star too harshly when I last played it but I just remember how frustrating it was. Maybe it got way better half way through or something. Either way I think I'll get it again and give it another shot. 😀
Really want to play OOT 3D and now it's on the selects range, what better time to get it? My backlog is ever growing and never ending it seems...
YAY!
I'm glad about the Zelda Ocarine of time. I really wanted to get it, but couldn't find it anywhere. Only import ofr 60 bucks, but 2 is so much better! And easier
I saw other regio's getting those, but now... FINALLY!
Ach. Star Fox 64 would have been good.
@Fandabidozi You mean the one that's already in the Selects line?
@Fandabidozi star fox 64/lylat wars is already a selects game
finally OoT!
@Grumblevolcano thanks for the reply, they seem to have removed the original tweet from @NintendoUK but it said at the end of the video they were available now in Nintendo eShop for £17.99
Ocarina of Time 3D, wow, it took such a long time. It was the first game I bought for 3DS. Surely, the best of the selection.
@MJKOP Was probably copypasted from the Wii U selects video.
@rjejr @sinalefa Even the 3DS version of LCU is becoming a Nintendo Select in EU now.
Bring us DKCR 3D! I already have it for Wii, so I'm not willing to pay full price for it again.
Oh come on! Why can't these be for NA? 😡
Mario and Luigi is tempting. I've already plates Ocarina of Time 3DS, and it's brilliant.
More select cool but either got, played or no thanks tho.
Very happy to see OOT 3D on the list!
I wonder if this means NA will get more added? Originally, Europe got their Selects games before NA so perhaps this could be the case again.
It seems like Nintendo's strategy is a two pronged attack: 1) Massive sales of Pokemon Sun/Moon and 2) discounting existing games and hoping to sell lots of software.
@Grumblevolcano Yeah, I noticed that. And Nintendo likes mocking me so much they gave a 5 weeks lead time. Why the @#$/$# do they need a 5 week lead time for a price drop on the eShop? Do they think people are going to rush out and buy it now before it gets cheaper? And since it's June 25th they might as well have waited until E3 at least that way it's only a 10 day lead in but gives them the benefit of having something else to talk about at E3
I swear, only Nintendo would announce a price drop 5 weeks in advance yet Zelda U still doesn't have a name after 2 years of release delays. Madness all around.
@Fandabidozi Star Fox is Selects in Europe, which this article is about.
It's a shame that the US and Europe don't get the same selection really.
already have the games I would want. but happy for everyone that ocarina of time is taking a price cut, that game is never on discount!
Pro tip: Lego City - Chase Begins is underrated on the internet and has suffered from not being the same game as the Wii U. But it's a lot of fun, if not very hard (haven't actually completed it, but played enough to know it's fun and deserving of a much higher aggregated score on metacritic than it currently has).
Thinking about Sticker Star but a lot of people don't seem to like it. What does everyone think?
@wazlon It's not a real Paper Mario, if you ask me. I hope Colour Splash is better (and does not abuse amiibos).
Really not a very strong selection at all. Sticker Star and Dream Team Bros, really? Then again, it's illustrative of the overall mediocre quality of the 3DS game library.
Would be nice if North America got more too, European Nintendo fans are pretty lucky.
Meanwhile, at the
Legion of DoomNOA Headquarters, Reggie laughs.Not even gonna lie: I've never seen so many official and permanent discounts for a Nintendo handheld (or on Nintendo consoles in general considering the WiiU titles that became Selects) ever since the Player's Choice line in the early 2000s, which as far as the GBA is concerned Europe never got anyway. I'm suspecting Kimishima has realized how behind the times Nintendo software's price tags are, which is a good realization for both Nintendo and its fans. Now all that's missing is Majora's Mask 3D and any 3DS newcomer will be able to snatch the big three Zelda handheld games for the console with seventy-five euros, which is fine and dandy in my book. And I bought them all at full price, but I'm totally okay with this. In a few years we'll boast the same competitive prices seen with Microsoft and Sony games.
@hYdeks
[insert mean comment about Brawl's, Super Mario RPG's, and EarthBound's official release dates here]
Also, read the first lines of this very comment.
@Moon http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311606595791 ,for only £14.99, and you welcome.
@AlexSora89 I agree. On Xbox One and PS4 you can get AAA games or remasters trilogies for less than the price of a 5 years old Nintendo game. It doesn't make any sense. Sure, there are fans that pay €10 for a 1996 Pokemon game on 3DS, but no wonder many gamers have abandoned Nintendo recently.
Fire Emblem is awesome, but Nintendo of Europe has announced its price (€45 for ONE version), if I want the two versions, the third path and the DLC, how much will it cost? Nintendo should reconsider their policies if they want more people to trust them. Personally, I won't get Fates until I can get a better deal, even though I am a fan of Awakening, I won't be paying around €150 for the Fates collection.
And thus, that ends OOT's days as a £35+ used 3DS game...
Will certainly look at getting Ocarina of Time when it's released - will be the fourth time I've owned it (N64, Gamecube & Wii previously)
@Yazan Thanks for posting that link, been wanting to get Mario Kart for my 2DS
I'll definitely grab OoT and the two Mario titles at a later date
I really hope Dream Team comes to North America. I traded the game in due to the excessive tutorials, however, I keep reading about how people love the game. I want to play through the entire game now!
I would have expected Mario Kart 7 and Mario 3D Land to be on that
@Fandabidozi It's only a Selects game in Europe.
All 3DS games, at this point in time, should be $19.99. In my opinion....
Nice to see, would have been tempted to pick up Sticker Star and Dream Team again if my copy of Odin Sphere Storybook Edition wasn't arriving the day before.
Certainly recommend LC:The Chase Begins anyway - not as polished as its Wii U sibling of course but still lots of fun with the missions, city to explore & all.
Is the NA ever gonna get more added?
EU got Wind Waker, I'm waiting for us to get a price drop on it!
@wiggleronacid it's my least fav M&L series ... I liked paper jam more lol
Surprised no one here yet mentioned interest in New Style Boutique (or Style Savvy: Trendsetters here in the US). It's actually quite a good game, with a lot of fashion choices and some really addictive elements. If you get a chance, I highly recommend trying out the demo and see for yourself.
Sticker Star is on my list. Maybe Lego City Undercover too...
@VanillaLake
I'm not abandoning Nintendo, but I have an Xbox One now for the same reason I previously bought a used 360: the discounts. Not only there are games not seen on Nintendo consoles, but for the price of one Nintendo game I bought two-digit numbers of games in the past. And I have yet to buy anything at all on X1 due to Microsoft's approval of account sharing. I have something like forty games on the console now, I didn't pay for any one of them, and it's perfectly legal. Meanwhile, the first Super Mario Bros. is still sold for five bucks or euros. Here's the thing: a cheaper price tag won't diminish the games' own status as a milestone; conversely, the games' milestone status can't justify their price tag anymore. We have to pay two bucks/euros in order to have on WiiU our VC games we bought on Wii. Contrast with one of Microsoft's higher-ups' (maybe Phil Spencer, I don't remember honestly) statement - "we're not charging you with games you already own" and... and honestly, what else needs to be said? Hopefully Kimishima-era Nintendo will shake things up by accepting the fact that games can be cheaper.
And yes, I am a Nintendo fan. It's sad I even have to state this fact, but I am. Which is the exact reason I'm whining so much about some issues lately. I want to enjoy being a Nintendo fan, I don't want to have to justify my preferences when I discuss gaming with other people. And, sadly, I often have to justify my choices lately. I'm proud to be a Nintendo fan, and to be here. But when I think about how other consoles are like "link up to [x] consoles to this account, no big deal", and compare that to the way not only NNIDs are linked to only one console, not only some save data can't be backed up (looking at you, Pokémon), not only users are not safeguarded in any way when data is lost, but also the transfer process openly taunts us with a picture of Miis crying over a winged 3DS software icon flying away... well, taking all these things into account, you realize how hard it's becoming to defend our favorite gaming system family of choice. To sum it up, when I bought another New 3DS out of fear I would lose the old New 3DS when I wanted to repair its C-stick nub, I explained my dad in detail how little ownership we have over our software; his response was "you oughta drop that world", with "world" meant as the console family (and with a spicy adjective beginning with F right before it).
Thankfully, my love for handhelds makes my departure from Nintendo pretty much not an option, but I'm starting to get sick of the fact we don't own the games we bought. Kind of a compelling point for piracy once you think about it.
But, right now, I'm still a Nintendo fan. And I don't care if a game I bought for 50€ is now sold for less. What's more, that's good news to me! It means more people can get into Nintendo games and find out what the fuss is all about. Once you're in this world, you finally see what's so awesome about Nintendo games altogether. But not many people are willing to pay the price of ten Micro/Sony games just out of sheer curiosity, and I think Kimishima - or whoever did so in his place - noticed that. Better late than never, Ninty. Better late than never.
This is one of those times i wish the 3DS was region free
I want Dream Team for selects in NA too.
@Yazan Cheers =]
@peeks Yep, same here. Dream Team was easily my least favorite due to how slow paced the beginning of the game was. It's easily the most divided game in the series. I do plan on picking up Paper Jam this summer, though. While the story in it is (apparently) bland, I heard the the humor is still there and the game mechanics and pacing are on point.
@AlexSora89
Very good comment.
"And yes, I am a Nintendo fan. It's sad I even have to state this fact, but I am. Which is the exact reason I'm whining so much about some issues lately. "
I am exactly like you in that sense.
^ no sh*t
@AlexSora89 Phil Spencer sure has done a huge amount to make the XB1 a fantastic experience, I am satisfied with my XB1 over the first year of owning (I got it early June 2015). Microsoft's E3 is actually the one I'm most excited about this year and this was the case even before Nintendo announced Zelda U only.
@tyepye no problem happy to help.
Ocarina of Time 3D! Finally!! Good timing with the N64's 20th anniversary in Japan (23rd) although probably just a coincidence.
@AlexSora89 Sorry, I'm getting quite tired of this unfair comparisons between Nintendo and Microsoft/Sony. Yes, you rise valid complaints, but why are they so one-sided?
Sure, Nintendo has a relatively primitive online service, and it's only recently that it has begun to slowly catch up with the competition, but why not also point out that it's completely free? Why should I accept to pay a monthly fee to use my console? If already paid for the console, if I paid for the games, if I paid for the DLC, why do I have to keep paying to use it? Why is it all right for Microsoft to charge its clients a fee to play online (something you can do for free on Nintendo consoles), but it is so terrible for Nintendo to charge five bucks for a classic game?
And what about backward compatibility? Nintendo made it possible for every GBA, NDS, GC and Wii owner to keep playing all their already purchased games in the next iteration of their hardware from the get go! Microsoft is only now getting some limited backwards compatibility in XBox One, and as far as I know, Sony offers no such option. Microsoft and Sony have been reselling slightly prettified versions on previous generation games for years and years, while Nintendo offered full backward compatibility with your already purchased games, yet somehow they are constantly branded as the evil, anti-consumer and behind the times company. Sorry, but I don't buy that.
As I said, you make valid complaints, but I find them way too one-sided.
Damn, was hoping for DKC Returns. Sure that is a select in NA
Still never got these discounts in Australia to begin with.
@Kochambra
I was sure my complaints would get someone riled up eventually, but that wasn't the reason I wrote them. I did so because I had a lot of steam to blow off. And yeah, when I was writing, I forgot Nintendo's online is free. Which is fair enough - to Nintendo's credit, the Nintendo Network online service is completely free of charge, contrary to the other companies. Same for backwards compatibility: buy a GBA and you can play older Game Boy games, buy a DS and you can play GBA games, buy a 3DS and you can play DS games, buy a Wii and you can play GameCube games, and of course, buy a WiiU and you can play Wii games.
And of course, nobody can boast a kick@$$ first-party lineup of franchise even remotely as powerful as Nintendo.
But that's about it, sadly. Iwata once said it best: "in order to play Nintendo software, you buy Nintendo hardware". Which is the exact reason I own Nintendo consoles in the first place (gimmicks are a welcome extra, but not even remotely close to being relevant to my love for Nintendo consoles). But I know that only works on me and on people like me. Everyone else owns other systems.
What I was complaining about was an entirely different matter. See, I have Rayman Origins on my 3DS and on my Xbox 360, both in digital form. The difference is that the 3DS version is as safe as a glass with a brick leaning over it: should my 3DS be accidentally formatted during repairs (see my decision to get another one in my post above), my game is gone, and so is every other game I have in digital form (and that's almost all of them). The 360 version, on the contrary? I pretty much own the thing, I can install on any Microsoft console I want. That game is legally mine, while its portable counterpart technically belongs to the console as the ID is tied to it, which is everything but a warranty. That's what I want from Nintendo, ownership, and warranties. Case in point: Matthew Taranto, author of Brawl In The Family and one of the biggest Nintendo fans out there, once had his Wii repaired and - due to a lack of an account system and, of course, ownership - the console came back home completely blank. Do you think he faced that with a smile? No. Here's how he actually reacted.
And my complaint about price tags wouldn't even be bothering your eyeballs if the tradeoff for many games being so expensive was total ownership. Heck, they could charge full price for an entirely owned game and give the option to have a discounted copy which is tied to the console. It would be a mere first step, but I would totally be into such a compromise.
I'm not asking Nintendo to give away Super Mario Bros. for free (even though with all the copies it sold since 1986, they might do just that). I'm asking for certain prices to make some more sense. Because saying "but our console can play Mario and Pokémon games" is an incentive to buy the console, not a "get out of jail free" card.
And, as I said, the increasing amount of discounts is a sign either Kimishima or current-day Nintendo as a whole is at the very least a little aware of that.
@VanillaLake
Of course. I would simply drop Nintendo and shrug it off if I didn't care, but I do, that's why I whine so much. And I know this sentence won't make sense to at least someone.
@Grumblevolcano
Same here, and I've owned that huge black box (heh heh... box) for less than a month now. It might not have Nintendo games on it, but I have a Wii U for that, right above Microsoft's console. I own a X1 to catch up on the huge games that keep giving Nintendo the cold shoulder (when they're discounted, as the WiiU is the console I plan to invest more money in) and it hasn't disappointed me so far.
here comes the sticker star bashing again
I've been eyeing up Dream Team Bros. for a while, so I'll be getting that later in the year after I finish with FE:Fates.
And OOT is an absolute steal for that price - if you have a 3ds but do not own that game, now is the time to get it!
I already have those games, nice selection of games though.
@AlexSora89 No, I'm not bothered about your complaints, what bothered me about your message was your one-sided comparison between Nintendo and Microsoft.
The thing is, you don't have total ownership any of those games. You don't have total ownership of your Nintendo games and you don't have total ownership of your XBox games either. The closest you could come to total ownership of a purchased game, may be if you bought DRM free games at gog.com or some such website.
The illusion of ownership that Microsoft provides for digital purchases suits your needs better? Congratulations! You think that Nintendo should provide a similar system? Fair enough!
Anyway, my complaint wouldn't even be bothering your eyeballs if you had made a fair comparison, by mentioning at least that Nintendo has offered for years the best ownership system for physical purchases of any mayor gaming system (outside of DRM free PC games, of course).
@Kochambra
My point was more along the lines of Nintendo's message being "Lost your console with the account tied to it? Sucks for you", which is rather unsavory in any publisher/customer relationship.
Might rebuy OOT so i can add it to my digital library. also, time to grab Dream Team!
