Re: Reaction: Nintendo's E3 Plans are a Perfect Blend of Humour, Retro Charm and a Hint of Madness

jjmesa16

The event will be good no doubt, but it won't have close to the same effect as last year, even with doing similar things. The reason, Super Smash Bros. had not been released. It was the major hype from last year and there is no way anything is going to come close to that, especially since Zelda Wii U will not be making an appearance. Sorry Nintendo. Splatoon will already have been released so it won't have the same presence that it did at last year's E3.

All that being said I'm still looking forward to the announcements. I don't really care for the World Championships since I won't be going and I doubt any new games will be a part of the competition, one thing that the Smash Tournament had going for it.

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in the Splatoon Direct

jjmesa16

Pretty much if there is no demo of this after or announced during the direct it's a failure for me. As you said a demo would make sense for this game since it's a new IP. An online demo/beta would be great but I have a feeling it will be the campaign.

I already know a lot about this game from you guys and other gaming websites, so a recap would be a waste of my time.

Edit: 2v2 multiplayer would also be great but it seems doubtful at this point. Same as chat.

Re: Poll: Which Characters Do You Want to Win the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot?

jjmesa16

It would be awesome to see Toad in Super Smash Bros. After all these years of taking and countering hits for Princess Peach it would be great to see Toad finally get some well deserved revenge.

Captain Toad would be great as well. His final smash could be running around and hitting people with his pickaxe.

One character that is totally obscure is Mike from StarTropics. Hardly anybody talks about StarTropics or played it, but it was one of my favorites for the NES.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Turns to Classics, DLC and amiibo to Keep Fans Hooked

jjmesa16

It was good for a majority of the audience but I didn't find it that great. I'm not really into FE, SMT, Puzzles and Dragons, Fatal Frame, or Attack on Titan. I'm probably in the minority though. I mostly enjoy classic Nintendo characters and on that front it was somewhat disappointing. Sure Mario Kart and SSB are getting updaes this month but there isn't anything fantastic coming to NA between June and September.

On the brighter side I can't wait to play all of the new DLC for Mario Kart and SSB. Splatoon should be a great game and I can't wait to get the amiibo when they come out (if I can find them).

Re: The Legend of Zelda for Wii U No Longer Set for 2015 Release

jjmesa16

Not really that surprised but this is a huge blow to the Wii U. Now there are really no major releases the rest of the year besides Splatoon and Star Fox, if it even releases this year. Be honest what games released the rest of the year will cost $59 (the price for great AAA titles). Sure Captain Toad is $39 (and its a great game) but it has nowhere near the quality or power of branding that SM3DW, SSB, Mario Kart, or Zelda have. There is a good chance that Xenoblade won't make it to the west in 2015. Even though I'm not a huge Zelda fan this is still a big blow and is starting to seem like another down year for Wii U.

This is the year of botched release dates.

Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?

jjmesa16

@Vineleaf I agree. I can't really get excited for the NX because it could be a successor to the Wii U meaning the Wii U would be dead after 4 years. If it's a new portable that something to get excited about but I highly doubt that will happen as the New 3DS was just released. RIGHT NOW I'm not really that excited for NX but that could possibly change when more information is revealed.

As for mobile Nintendo games, I don't believe it'll effect the Wii U market, however, it could have a small effect the 3DS market. I don't think it'll be that big of an effect though as Nintendo will probably release free-to-play games or maybe some classic games which work better on phones/tablets anyway. I don't find myself turning on my 3DS everyday but I do find myself playing games on my iPhone such as Clash of Clans or PvZ2 everyday.

As for the DeNA partnership, I think overall it's pretty good and will help Nintendo to start into the mobile space. Anything they do with a membership program should be good since Club Nintendo was pretty lame near the end of its life.

@DarkKirby The Wii seemed to do pretty well for not targeting the hardcore gamers.

Re: Study Finds That US Consumers Are Buying Wii U For Its Fun Factor And Kid-Friendly Nature

jjmesa16

It's not surprising that 86% of Wii U owners had a Wii. I'd say that most of the people who bought a Wii U and a Wii might also have a 3DS or a DS. It'd be interesting to find out what percent of people that own a Wii U also owned GameCube.

Here are my top 5 factors.
1. Exclusive Games/Content
2. Fun-Factor
3. Backwards Compatability
4. Price/Value
5. Multiplayer: I'm not really sure wether this falls under the Fun-Factor category but I'm putting it here anyway. The Wii U has the best multiplayer out of any of the current consoles. What other console can have 8 people play at once with doing a system link? Not to mention online play is completely free!

Re: You'd Better Get a Bigger Micro-SDHC Card for Xenoblade Chronicles 3D

jjmesa16

@Spoony_Tech Thanks for posting the 64GB info for everybody. I'm using a 64GB sd card right now (luckily it's a micro so I can use it with New 3Ds XL) and it isn't even close to full so.

I wish Nintendo would say that you can use a 64GB sd card as FAT32 but I'm guessing they won't because it requires extra software to do the reformatting.

Anyone know if you can use a 128GB sd card for the 3DS (reformatting it to FAT32 of course)?

Re: Gold Mario amiibo Set to Shine as Walmart Exclusive in North America

jjmesa16

@abe_hikura That is kind of sad for the other retailer that didn't get the Gold Mario. Of course Walmart is the only retailer to not have an exclusive amiibo as of yet, not sure if that played a part in the exclusivity deal. I wonder if the silver Mario will be branded as Metal Mario. Probably not.

I don't have a Mario amiibo so I'll probably pick this one up if I can find it. Will it work the same as a regular Mario in smash?

Re: Talking Point: The New Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Network and Wii U Could Point the Way for Future Hardware

jjmesa16

@Shadowkiller97 Me too! I'm not quite sure why they didn't take advantage of the touch screen in Smash.

In terms of the HUD, Pikmin 3 is a great example of this. The ability to change routes on the fly on the Gamepad is great and makes navigating areas and completing the game easier and more enjoyable. The only times I paused the game for a game related reasons were to start the day over or quit.

Re: Talking Point: The New Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Network and Wii U Could Point the Way for Future Hardware

jjmesa16

I definitely feel like this was a half step for Nintendo. Although the New 3DS is a great piece of hardware I feel like there could have been one or two more additions which would have made it a full step forward.

The first is a higher resolution screen. It feels like we have been asking/expecting this on a Nintendo handheld ever since the 3DS XL was released. Come on Nintendo, HD has been around for decades (1936 was the first HD broadcast, 1988 was the first LCD TV, 1996 was the first digital HD broadcast in America), why doesn't the 3DS have HD displays? I know that the 3D makes it more complicated, with having to display 2 images at once, but the 3DS has been out for almost 4 years with no upgrade whatsoever to the screens. A capacitive screen would also be nice for the touch screen.

The second is more interaction between the 3DS and the Wii U. The original DS and the Wii got together but it seems that there was a divorce since the newer versions came out. The only two games that I know of that co-mingle between the 3DS and the Wii U are Super Smash Bros. and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Not really a 3DS feature but something that would push the 3DS into the next generation is cross-buy. I'm not quite sure this isn't already a feature on Nintendo consoles. There are many VC games that I have on my Wii U that I would love to play on the go on my 3DS. The only problem is I already purchased the game for $5 on my Wii U and then I have to buy it again for $5 on my 3DS. That's $10 for one game! If you don't know what 5+5 is. It doesn't seem like a lot but when you have 15-20 VC games it adds up. Sure Nintendo is getting closer with the release of Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars, but there are many VC titles already out that Nintendo could do this for. Nintendo really needs a better account system. NNID is a step in the right direction but I'm not sure if a full account system will be here by the end of 2015.

I'm sure that there are many more features I'm missing, such as putting the 3DS onto the TV, but the features I discussed above could have made the New 3DS a full step, in my opinion.

Edit: I will be getting a New 3DS XL (because of Nintendo of America) but not on day 1.

Re: Sakurai Considered Having All Fighters Unlocked In Super Smash Bros. For Wii U

jjmesa16

I agree unlocking fighters was super easy. The ability to transfer custom moves would have been nice though. Those thing are hard to come by especially on the Wii U version. I've played over 100 hours between the 2 version yet have only collected about half of the special moves.

Of course having all custom moves unlocked would have been nice but where is the fun in that

Re: Club Nintendo Goes Rewards Crazy With Final Update in North America

jjmesa16

@FcsevenXIII If you haven't figured since you bought Punch Out! elite status is awarded by receiving coins. Club Nintendo totals up the coins that you have earned all year, you don't necessarily have to have 900 coins in your account. You may spend as many coins as you want. Since you bought Punch Out! I think you might have enough coins to earn Platinum status.

Re: Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target, Though 3DS Sales Fall

jjmesa16

@Quorthon I guess everybody has their own opinions on things. Sorry. I guess I'm just tired about hearing all of the Nintendo hate when Nintendo has great products too. I do like Microsoft and Sony and there are great things about their products but there are some downsides too. It's just frustrating when all you hear is the Wii and Wii U are crappy systems when they are both great but also have some flaws just like PS3/360 and PS4/XBO.

I agree that Nintendo has screwed up recently but it's not like their consoles are terrible compared to the others. The Wii and Wii U are both underpowered but they also both have some of the greatest games ever like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

I own a PS2 and a Xbox 360 and I've played many PS3s and an Xbox One. I enjoy all of those systems and they all have great games and features. I just find myself enjoying Nintendo consoles because of the game quality and replay value.

It's just annoying to hear that Nintendo sucks on every article/forum but I guess that's what trolls do (not saying that you're a troll).

Re: Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target, Though 3DS Sales Fall

jjmesa16

@Yorumi I agree actually. I think that the Wii made Nintendo naive and thought that a console with the Wii branding would sell millions (I guess it sold 3 million worldwide by the end of 2012, but I'm not sure that's what they were expecting, lol). It just ended up confusing consumers and without a solid game library at launch it was a "failure to launch". I think that the Wii U is growing now though and will have a decent year with Zelda, Xenoblade (hopefully), Star Fox, and Splatoon all launching later this year. Nintendo is slowly crawling out of the hole they dug and I wouldnt be surprised if Nintendo sold 4.5-6 million consoles in the next fiscal year.

Re: Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target, Though 3DS Sales Fall

jjmesa16

@Quorthon To say that the Wii had fewer games also is false. According to Wikipedia Wii had 1,359 games, Xbox 360 had 1,136 games, and the PS3 had 796 games. That's not counting backwards compatibility.

@jaksnakydx Its really hard to judge the stock between Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft because Sony and Microsoft create so many different products. For instance after the Microsoft press conference last week Microsoft shares went up. However it wasn't necessarily because of the Xbox One. Microsoft's stock is currently down 0.32 but that may or may not (probably not) be because of the Xbox One.

Re: Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target, Though 3DS Sales Fall

jjmesa16

@darkgamer001 I think that the Wii won the last generation because it was the most innovative console because of the motion controls. No one had ever expected motion controls to become a huge part of gaming and as of today. The Wii paved the way by being the first console to offer motion controls and being extremely successful in selling consoles. Sony and Microsoft then created their own motion controls but I'm not sure any of them were ever as successful as the Wii

In terms of sales the Wii also won, selling around 101.2 million units globally. To say that the Wii sold more/better in Japan is false. According to my calculations the Wii sold better in the US than it did in Japan.

US sales
322,583,006 = Population of the US as of July 1, 2014
45.4 million units sold
45,400,000 / 322,583,006 = 14% of the US population owns a Wii

Japan sales
126,999,808 = Population of Japan as of July 1, 2014
12.75 million units sold
12,750,00 / 126,999,808 = 10% of the Japanese population owns a Wii

I have to say that in terms of family/party gaming the Wii easily beat the other consoles.

@Quorthon Who was your winner of the last generation? Why?
