Re: Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target, Though 3DS Sales Fall

jjmesa16

I'm not surprised with the 3DS numbers. Consumers were not buying 3DSs at Christmas time because of the imminent release of the New 3DS and New 3DS in XL. I think sales would have been closer to last year if Nintendo had released the updated hardware in November.

Speaking of the New 3DS, Nintendo is making a huge mistake not releasing it in North America. I'm sure a lot of people wanted the customization features and I'm sure parents would would rather buy the cheaper smaller model for their kids. Also the 3DS is a portable system and the smaller is way more portable.

Why would Nintendo not release the New 3DS in North America? Almost 30% percent of the New 3DSs' sales in Japan this week were the smaller model. Why would Nintendo give up on such a big chunk of the market? It makes no sense to me.

Re: Wii Disc Software Heading to the Wii U eShop

jjmesa16

@Ryu_Niiyama How did they know that you could purchase Super Luigi U before the retail version, if you owned the disc of New Super Mario Bros. U?

Simple you put the disc into the disc slot.

I do agree that this is a great deal, for those who don't own these games. I will end up buying the Metroid Trilogy because I don't own it. However, for the games I already own, I think I'll get off the couch and put the disc in, instead of spending $10.

Re: Talking Point: The Time Is Right For A Nintendo Phone

jjmesa16

I'd love to play Nintendo games on my phone but I'm not sure they would ever match the quality of 3DS games. However I'm not sure I would ever buy a Nintendo phone because I'm very invested in iTunes. I have over 1TB of iTunes on my computer.

Plus, wouldn't 3DS sales go down since you could play Nintendo games on a Nintendo phone?

Re: Review: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Wii U)

jjmesa16

Overall Captain Toad Treasure Tracker has been a good game. I really wish there was two player though as my sister and I have to watch each other. Using the Gamepad to stop enemies and break blocks while another person was Captain Toad/Toadette would have been great. I feel like that was a missed opportunity by Nintendo.

Also there is a strange absence of gems from the Super Mario 3D levels. It would have been nice to have other collectibles besides coins and stars in those levels.

That being said any fan of puzzle games or enjoyed Cpatain Toad levels in Super Mario 3D World should pick up this game. It provides many hours of fun gameplay and it might be fun to replay it again sometime.

I agree with the 8/10 review. The lack of multiplayer as well as the lack of collectibles in the Super Mario 3D World levels bring this game down a couple points. However the charm and creative gameplay make this game a great experience overall.

It'll be interesting to see how amiibo is integrated into this game and I agree with most people in saying that it'll probably be costumes.

Note: After the finishing the main story I felt like there should have been more diverse bosses than the dragon and the bird. The boss levels seemed a little to repetitive.

Re: Feature: How We'd Like to See amiibo Used in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

jjmesa16

I really wish that amiibo could read and write for multiple games at a time. This would make them so much more capable. What Nintendo should do is automatically save the amiibo data onto the Wii U whenever it is done being used and delete the game data from the amiibo. Then when playing the software and using an amiibo it automatically loads the data onto the amiibo. This could cause problems though when wanting to take amiibo to a friends house as the data wouldn't be present on a friends console. To fix that you could go to the amiibo settings and write game data onto it. Nintendo could also grant the ability to save amiibo data to SD cards/hard drives. That would be cool.

Here is how it should work:
Software loaded>Load data onto amiibo when used>Save amiibo data onto Wii U when finished using an amiibo>Delete data from the amiibo

Note: I'm not really sure if this is how they currently work. If so that is cool. If not this would require an extreme amount of programming and the current amiibo hardware might not even support this idea.

Also I really wish that the amiibo would automatically unlock all of the custom moves for that character, for the player to use, in Super Smash Bros.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th November (North America)

jjmesa16

@Robo-Knight That's a great question. I'm not entirely sure. I'm assuming at you don't have to because that promotion has nothing to do with Club Nintendo. I could be wrong though.

Edit: I was wrong. Here is what Nintendo of Europe's Twitter had to say about the promotion:

"Register both the #WiiU and #3DS versions of #SmashBros on Club Nintendo before 31/03 and get Mewtwo for free!"

However if you do not have both versions you can purchase Mewtwo for a TBD cost.

Re: Sony: PS Vita Is Better Than 3DS And The Wii Brand Is A "Shadow Of Its Former Self"

jjmesa16

@B3ND3R Agreed. In my opinion the 3DS is better because of the quantity and quality of the games available. The amount of quality 3DS games puts the Vita to shame, and that's not including all of the awesome DS games.

On the topic of the Wii. The Wii reaches out many gamers with so many different game genres (mature games are somewhat hard to find though). With the Wii being backwards compatible, it makes the game library even better with a great selection of Gamecube titles. I'm still not sure why Sony and Microsoft refuse to make their consoles backwards compatible. Also I'm not sure how you can say that Wii brand is bad, when the Wii outsold the PS3 by almost 20%.

Innovation: something new or different introduced.
Tell me how the Playstation Move was more innovative than the Wii's motion controls.

So again which is better, graphics (PS3/PS4) or games (Wii/Wii U)? Like most people I choose games, which is why I own a Wii, 3DS, and Wii U.

Note: I'm not saying that all Sony and third-party games are bad, I just think that Nintendo games offer better gameplay and replay value. That's my personal opinion.

Re: Feature: The Wii U is Two Years Old, But How's it Doing?

jjmesa16

@Nintendobro @Agent721 @Vineleaf Thanks guys. I just wanted to see what people though about consoles and multimedia devices.

I bought a Wii U when it first came out and I hardly ever use it for streaming video as I have too many other devices that do the job more efficiently.

By the way I give the Wii U a B- as of right now. The first-party library is growing and there are many great indie games currently on the eShop. However sales for the Wii U have been less than stellar. It'd be nice to see more third-party support but I'm not sure if that will happen. By this time next year I think the Wii U will probably be a B+ or an A- given that Zelda and Xenoblade, and possibly Star Fox, will be on store shelves.

Re: Feature: The Wii U is Two Years Old, But How's it Doing?

jjmesa16

Here some questions for everyone:

If the Wii U was able to play Blu-ray discs do you think that sales would have been better (closer to PS4 figures)? If you bought a PS4 or XBOX One do you play Blu-rays with them?

When you purchase a game system do you consider the other features (Blu-ray player, multimedia player, etc.) or do you simply buy consoles to play games?

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th November (Europe)

jjmesa16

@Samurai_Goroh I didn't look at the price of Watch Dogs until now. $59 (I'm assuming) is ridiculous for a game that launched almost 6 months ago on every other console. At $59 the DLC should be included. Currently the prices for Watch Dogs are around $38 for all other consoles. Ubisoft could at least drop the price to $40. I'll definitely wait to purchase Watch Dogs.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th November (Europe)

jjmesa16

@Specter_Twilight Watch Dogs wasn't really delayed. I think it was ready at the same time or shortly after it wasn't released for the other consoles. Ubisoft refused to release it until Wii U sales got better (ie. the holiday season).

Localization is different than a company delaying a game when it is ready.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th November (Europe)

jjmesa16

Great to see that watch dogs is finally coming, along with the DLC. Although at this point I think the DLC should be free.

If any of the themes this week actually make it over to NA I might pick up one or two of them. Other than that nothing interests me and I can't afford anything after the bankruptcy I suffered from SSB and AS.

Re: Poll: Who'll Be Your Main amiibo Buddy?

jjmesa16

I'm getting Kirby and Fox on day 1. I might pick up Villager when he comes out and I'm definitely getting Shulk. Shulk will end up being my main but for now it'll probably be Kirby.

Edit: I forgot Roselina. I'll probably get her too.

Re: Feature: These Are The Mario Kart 8 DLC Packs We Want To See

jjmesa16

@Takerkaneanite6 Great question. I think if you have purchased it, it is already installed on the Wii U. I know when I purchased mine I had to wait for something to download and install. I could be wrong though.

I'm assuming there will be an update tonight/tomorrow that you have to install as well to enable the DLC and possibly turn on Amiibo functionality. I'm not sure why Nintendo would release 2 updates for 1 game in 8 days so I think Amiibo functionality will also be included in the DLC update. That is unless Amiibo functionality has already been turned on for Mario Kart with the latest Wii U update.

Re: Feature: These Are The Mario Kart 8 DLC Packs We Want To See

jjmesa16

I picked Anthony's 2000's pack. For me it was the best combination of realistic and ambitious.

Tom's pack looked the coolest but I'm not sure anything would actually make it into Mario Kart except for Pit.

Alex's Pack is probably the most realistic but I'm not sure if it's ambitious enough for me.

Damien's pack is somewhere near Anothony's pack. I'm not sure Damien's characters would ever make it to Mario Kart but I could see most his tracks and cars in Mario Kart.

Overall they were all great ideas and I'd be happy to see any of them in Mario Kart.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 5th November

jjmesa16

@dkxcalibur Here is mine:

  1. Mario Kart DLC
  2. Splatoon
  3. Captain Toad
  4. Xenoblade
  5. Majora's Mask
  6. Amiibo Support
  7. Indie Lineup
  8. Kirby
  9. Hyrule + Amiibo
  10. Monster Hunter 4
  11. Duck Hunt
  12. Sonic Demo
  13. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.
  14. Pikmin Animation
  15. Pikmin 3 Demo

For some reason I'm just not that excited about Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.. I'm not sure if it's the gameplay, the story, or something else. I'll probably get the demo if it's available, and if I like it I'll buy it, but at this point I'm just not that excited about it.

My most anticipated game is probably Splatoon although I'm not sure what to think about the single player mode. The only reason I ranked Mario Kart DLC above everything else, is that it's coming out next week.

Re: Nintendo Aiming To Create A Stronger Bond With Consumers Via Mii Smartphone Application

jjmesa16

I totally agree that they are behind the times with smartphones but I'm not sure if a Mii app is even close to the solution. An app that integrates a Mii editor, Miiverse, and the eShop would be better. It would be cool to see Nintendo make an app that interfaces with the Wii U but I highly doubt that will ever happen.

If it costs money I don't really see the benefit of buying something like this when I can just do that stuff on my 3DS.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 5th November

jjmesa16

@rjejr Agreed! I love the $5 to research whatever Iwata had but I'm not sure they will make enough to keep Iwata in the hospital for testing. I guess $5 could buy some bananas to keep him healthy.

@Dipper723 @xj0462 I don't think that the Miiverse stage and Tournament mode qualify. Mewtwo is DLC though.

Re: I'll Take Zelda And Mario Over Sharing Call Of Duty With Sony And Microsoft, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

jjmesa16

I don't think I would trade Nintendo games for Call of Duty, but, as a consumer, I would love to have Call of Duty games on my console. If I were a system manufacturer I would definitely want Call of Duty on my console. Have you seen the sales for those games?

I have to say though that Nintendo is doing a very good job of selling other consoles. They are pretty much saying, "If you want to buy Nintendo games, buy a Wii U, and if you want any other games, go for any other console."

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 5th November

jjmesa16

I was kind of disappointed as usual. It's great to see that Majora's Mask is finally coming to 3DS! However Nintendo failed to state any release dates for games coming early next year. Is there anything coming to NA in Q1 of 2015? Also I think a Smash demo would have been great and it would increase the hype even more for Super Smash Bros. and Wii U. That was definitely a missed opportunity. Seeing all of the Amiibo features was great however I wish that there were more features than just costumes for Mario Kart 8. Seems like X is coming along slowly and nothing new was shown off. Looks like it'll be a holiday game next year based on "we are targeting 2015".

My jaw dropped at the beginning of the presentation but the rest of it was just meh

Edit: It looks like Kirby will be coming out in Q1.
