Re: Gallery: A Closer Look At 13 amiibo Toys

jjmesa16

$10 seems pretty good. Disney Infinity characters are $13 MSRP, although you can usually find them online or at Toys R' Us for around $7-10. I really like the craftsmanship on the the Disney Infinity characters. Each character is heavy/durable and each set of characters has there own unique base. So I hope the amiibo character have the same build quality. It certainly looks like they do.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th July (Europe)

jjmesa16

I will probably be playing some Earthbound this weekend. The original price of this game is ridiculous. Every other SNES title game is $7.99. Why make Earthbound $9.99? What makes is $2 better than Super Mario World, which got a higher rating here on Nintendolife? Probably because Nintendo knew that people had wanted it for so long and they took advantage of those people by making them pay more.

I'm done ranting. I'll probably pick up SteamWorld Dig as well.

Re: Stats Suggest That UK Kids Are More Likely To Game On A Tablet Than A Nintendo 3DS

jjmesa16

I'm not surprised by the figures. The thing about tablets and smartphones is that there are so many of them and some are fairly cheap. Also with tablets they are quick easy games while most games on the 3DS require more time, which children don't have the attention span for. Also tablets and smartphones can do much more than play games. They can go on the internet (with simple controls), play music and videos, and some take decent pictures. Granted the 3DS can do some of those things too but it is far easier (and faster) to accomplish those tasks on a tablet/smartphone.

Another problem with portable gaming is the price of the games. Take Angry Birds for example. The price of Angry Birds for the 3DS is $29.99 (at the time of release) for 3 games. Those same three games will cost you $3-$15(HD) on a tablet/smartphone. Another example is 2048 which costs $2 on the 3DS and is free on the App Store. I think this is probably the biggest problem with console gaming nowadays but there is nothing that developers can do because of the money it takes to develop console games.

If say that if you look at figures of teen in high school or college, you will find that more of them own a 3DS and/or a home console. However, I still think that smartphones and tablets will beat them in the amount of time that people spend gaming on such devices.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Beware the Slippery Slope of Sponsored DLC

jjmesa16

I love the idea of adding real cars to Mario Kart. As long as the sponsorship doesn't get too overblown (10+ manufacturers with multiple models) I'm ok with it. It'd be cool to have a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, or even a Mustand or a Corvette would be cool to see in Mario Kart. The have had other real cars in other video games so I don't see the problem here. Just as long as they aren't putting ads/commercials, or constant banners in games I'm alright with it.

Btw I kind of with the Mercedes-Benz was a SLK or a SLS instead of a GLA, simply for the cool factor of the S-Class roadsters.

Re: Don't Worry, Splatoon Will Have A Local Mulitplayer Mode Too

jjmesa16

@Shepdawg1 I agree. I hope that they make it 4 player split screen but it doesn't sound like that's going to happen. 2 player online would also be great and I think that it is still a possibility.

I'm a bit surprised that this will be a full priced retail game. I was expecting this would be an eShop with a price around $19.99-$29.99.

@Dphishere I feel your pain. The internet in my town is pretty horrible too. I live in a town with about 150-200 people. We have to have satellite internet and the highest speed I've seen is around 2 Mbps.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3?

jjmesa16

For the biggest reveal I put Splatoon because we already new Zelda was coming next year and we know a lot about SSMB. Splatoon was new and I was probably my favorite game from E3. Don't he me wrong, the new Zelda game looks gorgeous, I'm just a little more excited for Splatoon and SSMB. Plus I think Zelda will be a big part of next year's E3.

Re: E3 2014: Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., A Brand New IP, Unveiled for 3DS

jjmesa16

I think I'll hold off on this one. The art style just isn't very appealing to me and I think that it would have looked better on the Wii U. What is the genre of this game anyway? It looks like a 3rd person shooter, but the article mentions it's a strategy, and it's turn-based. Just too much going on.

I would have rather had a sequel to a current Nintendo IP. I never asked for a new IP and I have been pretty happy with current Nintendo games. Splatoon was good enough for me.

Re: Reaction: Our Thoughts on Nintendo's Big Day at E3

jjmesa16

@Mahe I'm agreeing with @electrolite77 here. I'm pretty excited for Captain Toad next year. The Legend of Zelda's art style is phenomenal and looks like a cross between Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess. On your list you forgot about Splatoon. Are you not excited for that game?

Speaking of shovelware, you are excited about Shovel Knight? Just kidding, Shovel Knight looks awesome and is sure to be one of the top eShop games this year.

Re: Reaction: Our Thoughts on Nintendo's Big Day at E3

jjmesa16

Here are some questions for everybody:

1. Why should I buy a Wii U versus buying a PS4 or XBOX One? Aren't there more titles out for the PS4 and XBOX One?
2. Why not wait to buy a Wii U until Smash comes out?

Note: I already own a Wii U so these questions are for potential Wii U buyers.

Re: Reaction: Our Thoughts on Nintendo's Big Day at E3

jjmesa16

Yesterday was a good day for Nintendo but not excellent.

Positive:
I loved Splatoon (probably an eShop exclusive) and Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker, and I think both are day 1 purchases for me. Mario Maker looks interesting and could keep people entertained for many hours. Amiibo is an interesting market for Nintendo to enter as it is extremely crowded with Skylanders and Disney Infinity. However Amiibo can play across multiple Nintendo games which is awesome. Yoshi's Wooly World also looked great but I wish it was coming out this Holiday, as they showed it at last year's E3. Mario Party also looks awesome and I'm surprised that they didn't show it in their presentation.

SSMB and Bayonetta 2 are also great but we have already seen so many trailers for those games. Xenoblade Chronicles X looks outstanding although it seems that it is a slow going project with a delay to 2015. I feel we will see more X at next years E3. I think it will probably be in the west by Holiday 2015.

Negative:
Still a lack of games for Wii U for 2014. Zelda was great but I would have liked to have seen more footage or gameplay. The absence of games from Next Level Games and Retro was somewhat disappointing but those might come up later in the show. Star Fox was also absent from the presentation. I was also hoping for some announcements about cross platform purchases. Such as buying one game and having it be on both consoles. Perhaps the biggest omission for me though was Virtual Console. Where was any information about Virtual Console games? No new/old NES, SNES, DS, Gameboy Advance, or even GameCube and N64 games?

Here are my E3 rankings:
1. Sony (Project Morpheus, PS TV, and lots of exclusive/cool games)
2. Nintendo (Great games and Amiibo)
3. Microsoft (Good games but I saw too much multiplayer)

EDIT: To be clear I am not a Sony fanboy. I DO NOT OWN a PS3, PS4, or a Vita. I DO OWN a NES, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Advance SP, DS, 2 DSi's, GameCube, Wii, 3DS, 3DS XL, and a Wii U.

I just think that Sony had the best games overall and some cool new hardware.

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From Nintendo at E3 2014

jjmesa16

I'm hoping for a announcement for Pokemon games on virtual console. Ok maybe I'm being way too optimistic but I do expect to see more of the Pokemon game for Wii U that we saw last year.

What ever happened to Yarn Yoshi/Yoshi's Yarn?

Edit: Another bold prediction is that GameFreak will announce multiple save save files for Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby.

Re: Nintendo Download: 12th June (Europe)

jjmesa16

@Tsurii897 Mario Strikers charged was good but I think I like the one for the Gamecube more. I thought that there was too much going on in the Wii version. I hope they keep it simple like the original. What about a Mario Party, Mario Baseball, or Mario Sports Mix for Wii U? A new Mario Basketball for 3DS?

I don't think that I'll be picking anything up this week but I might pick up Puddle later (when I recover from Mario Kart 8).

Re: Tomodachi Life

jjmesa16

I just realized I never really knew the price of this game. At $35 I think I'll be skipping out on this one.

Re: "Play Nintendo" Tour Rolling Through the U.S. this Summer

jjmesa16

We'll looks like I'll be skipping out on the Nintendo Tour again this summer since the closest one is nearly 10 hours away. Too bad there are no Wii U games, let alone E3 demos. Come on Nintendo! Super Mario 3D Land came out 2 1/2 years ago. Why not show off a newer game like Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS (they could make a demo version)?! Heck, even New Super Mario Bros. 2 is newer.

Re: Satoru Iwata Won't Attend E3 For Health-Related Reasons

jjmesa16

I hope Mr. Iwata gets to feeling better but I'm kind of glad that he won't be at E3. This means that we get to see more of Reggie, Sakurai, Miyamoto, and maybe Aonuma. Get well soon Mr. Iwata!

@rjejr I agree. Iwata being gone shouldn't have that big of an impact at this year's E3.

Re: Guide: Getting Started in Mario Kart 8

jjmesa16

One question I have is, can I play multiplayer on the gamepad? I know it going to be a cramped screen but I have to be on the road tomorrow (how ironic with Mario Kart coming out) and I was wondering if I could play with my cousin on just the gamepad.

Re: Nintendo Announces The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U

jjmesa16

@Funny_Moblin The pro controller sticks seem pretty good to me but the problem is haven't really used it that much. You'd have to ask someone else for their opinion. Sorry.

I'd also really like to find out if other games are supported. Mario Kart would be great as well as Super Mario 3D World. It's still a must buy for me when smash comes out.

Re: Nintendo Announces The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U

jjmesa16

@absuplendous To answer your question, I don't believe so. The Wii U just charges the pro controller while playing and doesn't provide faster responsiveness as far as I know.

I preferred the Gamecube controller on the Wii because for me the responsiveness of the wired GameCube controllers is better than the responsiveness of the Wii Remote controller (and it was easier to control Mario Kart with the Gamecube controller). We'll see how the Wii U Pro controller compares to the Gamecube controller when this awesome piece of hardware comes out.

Re: Nintendo Announces The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U

jjmesa16

Awesome!!! I just hope its not too expensive. I'm hoping it will around $20-$30.

@Funny_Moblin Great question. I'm sure what controller is more comfortable but I like the button layout on the Gamecube controller. The Wii U Pro controller is pretty much the same as a XBOX 360 controller so if you have one you could compare it to a Gamecube controller. However the Wii U Pro controller is a little bit lighter and has a flush back.

To answer your previous question I would probably just stick to your Gamecube controllers for now. I have a Wii U Pro controller however I really only use it for Call of Duty Black Ops 2.

Re: Hyrule Warriors Confirmed for 14th August in Japan, Producer Roles for Team Ninja Staff are Revealed

jjmesa16

Looks like there is going to be a drought again this summer. Where are the games for June and July? Sure we have Mario Kart 8 but when is the next Nintendo game coming out for Wii U. The next game I see coming out is either Bayonetta 2 (which doesn't have a release date) or Hyrule Warriors which is obviously coming out in August in Japan.

On the bright side Hyrule Warriors looks like a great game and I'll be picking it up whenever it comes out.

Re: Download Sales On Nintendo Formats Have Trebled In The Last Two Years

jjmesa16

I'm probably done doing digital copies of games for a while, besides the Mario Kart promo. I downloaded Luigis Mansion 2 the night it came out and it was great because I was not able to get to a store for the next couple of days. I then proceeded to download Pokemon X the night it came out and it took a while, about 8 hours, to complete. The game is very glitchy, mostly the music, when it comes to online play and even saving. However I had no problem downloading the NES games on the Wii U.

Overall I just like having the physical copy more. Collecting games is fun to me and I just don't get the satisfaction of holding/having the game if I download one.

Edit: Also the cost of the games is too high for me on the eShop. If the retail games were say $5-$10 cheaper than their physical counterparts, I might consider downloading more games. Games being locked to a console is another reason why I don't like to download games.

Re: Western Markets Vital For Nintendo Hardware Sales as Japan Gains Ground

jjmesa16

@PuppyToucher Pokemon Rumble U was not a great game and definitely deserved more attention from GameFreak and Nintendo. I think what Nintendo needs is not a game like Skylanders, but a game more like Disney Infinity. Nintendo has so many great characters, nothing compared to the amount of Disney characters though, that they could use. Imagine creating your own castle or creating 2D/3D levels that you can play with your friends. The game should be a cross between Super Smash Bros. (characters) and Disney Infinity (ability to create worlds). That would be a cool game.

PS I'm not sure if Pokemon Rumble U counts as game like Skylanders in terms of quality, but it does have NFC toys like Skylanders.
