I'm wondering if we can still transfer Pokemon from BW/B2W2 to X and Y after this date. Does anyone know if this affects Poke Transporter? I hope not. Technically Poke Transporter is a 3DS app however I think it uses an internet connection through BW/B2W2 to transfer pokemon into Pokemon Bank.
EDIT: Looks like Poke Transporter will still work according to Serebii.
It's interesting to see that DK is only $49.99 considering that all of the other Nintendo games were $59.99 when they came out (besides Game and Wario).
I would just like to see any handheld Pokemon games on a home console. That would be great. Professor Layton, Ace Attorney, and Star Fox Command would also be good.
"It's not been helped by the Wii U delay of Watch_Dogs, but it's becoming increasingly clear why Satoru Iwata — in his various January briefings — was talking about mid-term plans and returning to the good times in the next financial year (after 31st March)."
Seems like they said this at the end of the last fiscal year too.
Meh. It was alright. Kind of lacking in the surprise category as we already knew most of this information already. Mario Kart 8 was the only big Wii U game that had a launch date. No "release windows" for any other games such as Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros. and X. On the other hand I liked that GameBoy Advance games are finally coming to Wii U but I would like to see some Pokemon titles finally come over to the VC for Wii U or 3DS. The future of the Wii U looks bright. However when is that future going to happen?
I'm not getting my hopes too high because I know I will be disappointed. I expect to see a lot of Donkey Kong, Yoshi and maybe Kirby. I would be surprised to see a huge amount of info on Mario Kart as it doesn't come out until May (probably June based on Nintendo's track record). I'm not sure we'll see any new character for Super Smash Bros., but we might see an old one. I would like to see some more info on upcoming Wii U VC as that area has been lacking in the past couple months. Overall I'm not expecting too much from Nintendo these days.
@readyletsgo A new 3DSXL might be shown off this year but I don't think it will be at E3 since Nintendo didn't even show up last year. They didn't even announce the release date or price for the Wii U at E3.
@Goginho Name it the 4DS. You fill up a water tank before you play and it sprays you. Lol. I remember back to the development of the Wii, which was then called the Revolution. It'd be cool to see a name like that again although I'm not sure any console will be as revolutionary (pun intended) as the Wii was.
Before they were cousins once removed but know that they have "unified accounts" they are more like cousins. Still a lot of work to be done with Nintendo Network ID.
One thing I wish that Iwata would have talked about at the briefing was accounts (NNID). There is much improvement that needs to be done on that front. I really wish that games weren't tied to systems but were tied to accounts instead. It's something that Nintendo really needs to do and I hope that's it's done before E3 2015.
Great article and I find that this topic could go either way. I agree most games for the Wii U you do not need the gamepad however for some games it makes the game easier. Take for instance Pikmin 3. You can use the pro controller but it is much easier to use the gamepad to throw Pikmin. Games such as SMBU and SM3DW do not use the touchscreen to their full extent however I find it easier to play on the gamepad than on the TV. What Nintendo really needs to do is use the gamepad like they did in NintendoLand. The person with the gamepad had a unique experience compared to everyone else playing playing on the TV.
So yes it can go either way. The gamepad isn't a necessary for most Wii U games however I believe that it makes the gaming experience more enjoyable overall.
@Incognito_D I agree. The gamepad shouldn't be the main selling point for the Wii U even though it offers a unique experience compared to other home consoles. What really makes Nintendo stand out is their software. Many people would agree that Nintendo has the better first party titles than Microsoft and Sony.
Looks like Pokemon Bank should be arriving in the next week. Extended maintenance is being conducted on Monday, January 27, at 4pm-10pm Pacific Time and it will affect online play of Pokemon X and Y.
@triforcepower73 It's a great movie but it is probably my 2nd favorite Disney movie. Lion King is probably the top Disney movie for me. If you count the Pixar movies as Disney movies Frozen would be probably 5 since I really enjoy Pixar movies.
Nonetheless Frozen is still a great movie and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. It is just to bad the game didn't turn out that great.
The movie is pretty good and it has a great soundtrack. I don't think I'll buy this game however I will buy the movie when it comes out in March. By the way Olaf is kind of funny in the movie.
I hope that Pokemon bank comes out sometime this week. I've been waiting since October (like everyone else) to get it. I'll probably get Dr. Luigi eventually but $15 dollars is a little expensive for that game at the moment. I'll be waiting for a discount.
So many hard choices. I think SM3DW wins the Wii U although I think Pikmin 3 is a close second. No one really talks about that game anymore. I picked Pokemon X and Y for 3DS however that pick is biased because I haven't played ALBW or Fire Emblem. The hardest category for me was the Wii U eShop because there were many great indie titles this year.
@Hale-Bopp True they did not explicitly rule out Super Smash Bros. in the spring however I do not think that it will be released at that time. Summer would be a great time to release it as it is summer break but I'm leaning more towards a late summer/early fall release, August-September.
@Stubborn_Monkey I agree. I would have liked to have seen Mario Kart 8 in Q1 but I doubt that will happen. I also think that X will definitely be in Q4 and Yoshi Yarn will appear around the time of DK in 2015 as we have heard really nothing about it.
This is more exciting than hearing that Donkey Kong will be arriving on February 21st. If Nintendo would have announced this at VGX they would at least have gotten a response from the hosts unlike DK. jk
Wow a Wii U VC game!!! Too bad it's Balloon Fight. I already got that as part of the promotion. What's with the price of 200 coins for Balloon Fight? Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels is only 150.
I have to say game conferences are getting sad. E3 used to be on G4TV however when they got rebranded they got rid of all gaming shows. Spike then covered the event however it isn't really on TV anymore, just highlights on the internet. Nintendo didn't even bother doing a press conference at the biggest gaming convention of the year. VGX, also hosted by Spike, was a complete failure so I've heard (I'm glad I didn't waste 3 hours of my life watching it). I miss G4TV.
Not sure if everyone noticed but Nintendo Club rewards should have expired last night. Nintendo updated the rewards to end at midnight tonight. Great time to pick up Zelda: ALTTP. Then it would only cost $2 instead of $8.
@element187 I think Yarn Yoshi would have been better than Donkey Kong. We know very little about Yarn Yoshi and there has been no news/videos/pictures since E3.
Not everybody was hoping for Zelda U footage. Remember that are some exciting games that have already been announced for next year: Bayonetta 2, X, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, and Yarn Yoshi.
Not a huge fan of DK so I'm kind of disappointed. Would have rather seen some new footage of Mario Kart since that is one of the more popular franchises. Smash Bros. would have been great too but I wasn't expecting to see much of anything on that front.
@rjejr I loved Ratchet and Clank. Probably one of my favorite games ever on the PS2 (I also like Burnout 3: Takedown). Never played any of the Kingdom Hearts even though I own the second one, which I haven't opened. I also was never really into FPS until my roommate in college had a PS3 and I played Black Ops, but even now FPS games are still not my favorite. I would like to own a early PS3 because of backwards compatability but those are hard to come by these days.
The big takeaway from this article is that there is no reason to be an early adopter for any gaming consoles (however people will still do it). It is best to wait for better games and a price drop on the console. Most consoles have had better software later in their lifespan. There is no reason to call a console a failure because of the lack of software at launch. Every console has that problem. Games will get better for each new console as time goes on.
Actually the big takeaway from this should be that the gaming industry needs to team up. Sony needs to make hardware, Nintendo needs to develop software, and Microsoft needs to do marketing?
@rjejr Agreed. I would choose a PS3 over any other console OUT NOW, even though I do not own a PS3. The ability to play 3D Blu-rays, stream Netflix and other media sources, as well as the ability to play HD games, makes it a great overall system. Also with the PS4 recently released prices for new PS3 games should start decrease faster.
Honestly people give the new consoles some time. We gave the Wii U some time. The best game for the Wii U, Super Mario 3D World, didn't come out until a year after the Wii U. The 3DS games that are coming out now, two and a half years later, are some of the best ever released for the handheld (gameplay and graphically wise). Look at the Wii U games that came out on launch: New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, ZombiU, Ninja Gaiden 3, among other third party titles also released on other consoles. On the Wii U virtual console didn't arrive until 6 months later and the first great titles didn't arrive until March, in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Lego City Undercover. The next Nintendo game didn't come out until June in Game & Wario and August with Pikmin 3. Give the new consoles some time to receive great games. We gave the Wii U time.
Also keep in mind that the PS3 and XBOX 360 were already HD consoles unlike the Wii. The graphical jump between the Wii and the Wii U is far greater than the PS3/PS4 and XBOX 360/XBOX One.
To be clear I love Nintendo and I own a Wii U, 3DS XL, Wii, 2 DSi's, original DS, GameCube, Gameboy SP, Advance, Color, and a NES. So do not say I am a Sony/Microsoft fan. I also own 2 old PS2's and a XBOX 360 both of which I rarely play. I turn on both maybe once a month.
Definitely a system seller. This game is great, although I'm not sure if it's as innovative as Mario Galaxy was, and it deserves all of those 10 stars.
@ultraraichu Sadly I have never opened the Wii U chat app because I do not have any friends that own a Wii U. Skype would be a great addition. Also I'm highly doubtful that DVR controls are ever coming to TVii, as they got rid old the non functional DVR conrols on the last TVii update, but I hope they do. There is a lot that Nintendo could do with TVii but I'm afraid that Nintendo has forgotten about it along with Wii U Panorama View.
