Glad there's finally a patch. This came out the same yr as Little Ninja Brothers, which my video store had as soon as it was released (the "RPG"ish sequel to Kung Fu Heroes). Very similar.
So many hours with friends put into "Dragon Power" (DBZ nes), KFH, and LNB during that late 80's period. By the time Legend of the Mystical Ninja (Goeman SNES) and Super Ninja Boy were released, we were already in love with the J aesthetic. I still boot up Goeman on 64 just to see Awaji Island (and the peach mountain shoguns/gang haha). And tread the shores of the sunset soaked area. What an unforgettable game that is.
Planning on ordering these. I have a few from Japan, but they're not easily readable for me. They were "must buy" however. Once I'm holding an incredible piece of art like that, I always want to own it immediately lol. My old stacks of EGM, GamePro, and NP have held up well considering some are turning 30yrs old. Mags are always worth the cover price imo.
I know I shouldn't be interested this (even though its prob a great game), but seeing these 3ds Mii's in such a big 1st party game just makes me want it lol. It's as if this game is a celebration of the 3ds itself. This could possibly belong on my system alongside some old streetpass DL's.
I want it for all 3 plats. This probably confirms that my collecting habit is back in the ugliest way, after about 8 yrs of semi normal existence and interests haha. Gonna have to start hiding all these toys...again (embarrassed).
But ya it's really nice to see they released this on these particular 3 systems. Added to my list.
While not all of us have the time for an intelligent back and forth on this forum (not for lack of desire), its probably really hard for some of us not to chime in with some positivity for Nintendo on this one. This isn't unwarranted with the good news coming in, and we've been waiting years for this feeling. Its also very understandable to be pessimistic about a company you're rooting for that's had so many ups and downs/mis steps. Its great to see so many clashing personalities that want the same thing. So I'll just say that so far, it looks like they're doing it again. Its early, but this continues to show signs of the winning formula. I'd much rather be optimistic than the opposite, as long as I'm well informed that is. But that's just my personality showing, glass half full. Pessimism can be very informative info wise. So anyway..."go Nintendo go" haha. Well I tried lol.
Most likely be grabbing this in the JP Eshop, but my japanese is not as polished as I'd like sadly. I'll probably wait to see if they cut content in the NA release before downloading (they will). The first 2 were awesome beat 'em ups. I guess I'll be watching (no pun intended).
We had some nice games revealed in the direct for serious gamers, and this is probably no exception if you have a family, so I'm glad they're adding it. I miss the brutally unfair AI in the old ones...it was hilarious to watch. Thimble, Wheelbarrow, Iron, and Dog...in that order for me. Been a long time wow. I'm guessing here, but it looks like a full retail priced effort. Ppl may not be too happy about that.
Also, I'm reminded of the "Othello" guy again, since this is a board game. That dude trolled for a week and was actually pretty funny. He did NOT like the portable powerhouse/hybrid Nintendo Switch lmao.
I'll agree w a few of you that the Switch screen size makes the XL seem a bit small (6.2 vs 4.88?) once you go back to it. Any smaller would not be cool, but it's decent. If I didn't have so many retail and indie games directly onboard, it could be suffering the same fate of my original DS games (storage). I do take them out to look at now and then, but that's probably a video game crime when I think of the content there. Well, I'll always have the memories haha.
And ya...I've been watching this for awhile. I finally have a chance to watch the direct in a few minutes, and I'm thinking it's the only game on my radar that'll be covered.
Backed...just in case. Though few ppl I know understand why I buy these (even those who once had a Super NES grrrr), I really do need this. The NES ones are amazing, my favorite being "8-bit Art Book" by "ear books". Its half German text, but has by far the nicest art, and cover imo. Way nicer than Prima's "Playing with Power". Anyway, its always awesome to see some like minded retro fans, even if I have to go online to find them.
He's a pretty talented composer, and I've been a fan of a few of his ideas within songs. This game is prob the #1 reason for me owning a switch atm (behind Indies and maybe a decent vc). And I weirldy love that these are exclusive for us loyals who still give Nintendo $. After following the first games development for (I believe) 4 brutal yrs, all I can say is...fingers crossed for no delays. Hoping it will be an epic.
Funny how for some, bad/frustrating games can become nostalgic over time. Fairune 1+2 were very Hydlide and Super Hydlide like. I appreciate where they took their inspirations...these guys (Skipmore) are oldschool gamers. They still belong on my 3ds. And most likely this, on my Switch. I'll be waiting for the CIRCLE localization, as opposed to downloading this month.
Awesome, been waiting for this. First one had so much bang for your buck. Definitely not planning on putting away the 3ds...probably ever, regardless of my Switch. 2 totally different beasts. I say this because I know a few wanted this on Switch instead. Some would disagree w me, but this series just feels suited for 3ds - and what a 3d effect! Still can't find that anywhere else.
It looks great. I'll be pre ordering not just for the game/collection, but also to support this lost artform.
I'm hoping the ROM stays in the right customers hands, at least until everyone gets paid something for their work on this project. After putting a year of time/creative effort into something, its always nice to have some incentive to keep doing it. As to whether that's just fan support, or a small profit to fund something new, well...I'm not quite sure of NU GAIA's motivations (I haven't been able to follow this too closely). I just know it can't be fun to have your work taken away from you from certain fans, who might not comprehend the effort put in. Sorry, small rant there guys - but only well intentioned.
I always wondered where Titus was based, and now I know. Automobili Lamborghini was one of my first 64 games after launch (early '97?) It was underwhelming and empty, but nice to look at for its time. It was either buy that, or MRC Racing. Right decision.
These Neo-Geo games are all so tempting. Maybe just 1 more quick playthrough for nostalgia (and portable) sake. Wish I could play some co-op but nobody I know plays or cares about video games unfortunately. That's how this was meant to be played imo. I've had the AES cart for over 15 yrs, but it does have label damage (bought it used). I just don't have the heart to sell it.
Even though I'm pulling off the moves just fine, I'm feeling the diagonal gap big-time on these fighting games. I know it's all in my head though because 3ds has a digital d-pad and I'm fine on that. I'm a strictly portable gamer these days so I passed on a pro controller, and I just can't see Nintendo releasing a d-pad joycon. Ah well, them's the breaks as they say.
Wonder how long it'll take to get themes going? I'm guessing next yr after everything settles and the 2nd wave of gamers have their switch. Its VC and online by the fall if I remember correctly. Those are definitley the updates I'm waiting for. But stability is pretty cool too I guess.
Ahhh reminders of my left handed nightmare!! Eventually found a technique but ouch! This coming from a guy who learned the right side joystick (ambidextrous control layout) of certain Atari fame, and the Korean style "fingers only" NES/SNES play style of old. Still revert to the latter in the middle of fighting games once my health is in the red haha. Always gets a reaction, especially in the west. But ya... gorgeous game, and brutal controls for lefties.
And I'm one of the ones here who sadly appreciates these 3d cartoons in my inside jacket pocket. Keeping me company after long nights, along with the Switch.
This is the book I've been specifically waiting to release. I'll be spending some time with it very soon - a little reward at the end of a long work schedule. Sadly my switch is collecting dust atm (not by choice), but this NES artwork might take priority when I finally get some alone time.
I think they'll be ok for the Japanese market, but they do look tiny. Just remember, we had North Americans using the GBA SP's config. And there are some big hands over here. That seriously looked like a tight squeeze for some of us, but once you got into the game it was fine. I still get a little chuckle when I hear about ppls hands cramping up after an hour of 3ds XL. Those must be some big mitts, and that's coming from a piano/keyboarder. An SP would be absolutely unplayable for those guys unfortunately.
My main 3ds just fried from a power surge. If they are unable to repair it, apparently I lose all my saves. I'm under the impression (according to all forums) that even though my saves are on the sd card, they cannot be read from a new model, even with my nnid switched over by Nintendo. Not 100% on this, but I'm about to find out. I have thousands of hours of gaming, and thousands more in music creation programs. Luckily I've become the master of letting things go (in life) that are important, so while it stung a bit...I'll live haha.
I actually read an online thread once, where somebody backed up the sd to pc, then painstakingly deciphered each games save file (he said the files show up as a long string numbers/letters, so they're well hidden), and was helping ppl restore specific files. Don't think this would've worked with a new system, but I'll be doing that next time...just in case.
@HSuzumiyaVI Haha I miss that old tagline. With all the Nintendo nostalgia in the publics mind this year, they should definitely use it again. After many years of portable LCD games, 1989 really did feel like I was "playing with portable power." But you're right...this would be an absolute milestone in handheld gaming. And I can't see Nintendo alienating their "at home" fan base, or what little remains of it in this gen. They will make it work imho.
Still have my copy on PS2 on the shelf. Man, those metal slimes will haunt me forever. Or at least spending hours trying to encounter them at the end (for exp) arrrrgh!
@HSuzumiyaVI Agreed. And I can just imagine how nice it will look on the small screen. Although were losing the "glasses free 3d" (so the parents can buy NX for their kids, also the cost factor), I have a hunch that these games will look amazing. I am a bit biased towards handhelds though so that may be playing into my excitement for NX haha.
I've noticed that a lot of people are saying that the NX's graphical power could potentially be less than Wii U...however I think they're forgetting that Breath of the Wild is going to be on both platforms. I just couldn't imagine their new hardware having a scaled down version. That should alleviate those worries, no?
Kinda impressed that Sega at least tried to go all out today. And even though the stream was being mocked, I really felt for the company for the first time in awhile (they're still my fave pre 2002). And the game looks promising. Sega is officially on board the NX train.
@pirateseph Thanks for the info, and I'm glad to hear that because I'm just gonna go ahead and download it. I can find the charm in just about any handheld game. You don't hear this often, but many years before the original gb released, I would collect those "horrible" game and watch style LCD games (which I still love to this day). When a teacher heard those go off in class back in those days, it was detention, and goodbye to the game forever lol. My hopes were high for Excave 3 because of the potential, and my love of portables...but sometimes I just need to come back down to earth and remember those roots.
Wait..."we want parents to feel at ease?" Wow children with VR strapped to their heads? While it might just be Mario and Kirby...I do wonder what this kind of immersion will do to the growing mind. Especially considering they're going for long gaming sessions. But it looks like I'm the only one who was a bit shocked by this. My 5 yr old (video game obsessed) nephew will be happy to hear his however.
Its a big day for Nintendo, and while I try not to post here too often, I did want to say that everything looks gorgeous in BotW. However I have seen possible Sony employees on some Nintendo forums trolling the graphics with mindless technical arguments, and verbatim scriptage under different user names lol. Maybe just crazy fans, as while I've given all 3 companies my $ over the years, I also am guilty of rooting for my favorite. Even though N is a distant third in this gen, I believe that Sony still recognizes what kind of game maker and tech company they're up against in a longterm scenario. And didn't they just call one of their E3 games a "Zelda killer?" So they acknowledged Nintendo. Well even if NX is seen as failure, imho Nintendo should never stop making consoles, and never license their IP's out to the other 2, as what goes around...most often does come around (Nintendo's popularity and possibly 3rd party parity one day). Anyway...I can just imagine the amount of love they've put into this game over the last 2 yrs. It has been their "baby" for sure.
Figures that the Zelda theme would have the same elevator music that the first 2 My Nintendo themes did - arghhh. They should've specifically left this one silent imo. I rotate about 20 themes, and haven't used the freebies in 2 months, yet I worry that every note in this ultra peppy song is now forever with me.
Those are great prices for Majoras and Project X Zone 2 here in Canada. I have MM physically (only because it was a gift), but would love having it on the home screen beside Oot 3d.
While it might be everyone's first instinct to mock this due to the source material, nostalgia forces me to be optimistic at this early stage. Like, if you make an awesome adventure, with an eventual Tetris tournament, and lots of fan service and references it could work. Sadly, if the ppl making this didn't experience the Tetris phenomenon in its heyday, then I question their intentions and passion here (cash grab). "Filming in China" is where they lost my hopes. All Chinese cast? Arghhh
Can't believe we never got even Golden Axe1. My dream of seeing Golden Axe 3 : The Revenge of Death Adder (arcade) released on a console will prob never happen, and its proving hard to track down a 3 or 4 player cabinet (grew up on the 3 player). Multiple paths, tag team moves, and system 32 graphics. The best Golden Axe ever made...is forgotten. Alien Storm would be sweet in 3d. Moonwalker 3d arcade version would be insane too. I'm still in shock that we got Galaxy Force and Thunder Blade on a system owned by so many millenials (not meaning that in a derogatory way) and younger children. I almost believe M2 is making these for the love of the games, and not big profits. Hoping they keep this going if N releases another handheld.
This was a well written review. Lots to consider with this one. I've been seriously over exposed to playing cards by certain friends, and I now unfortunately cringe when I see someone bust out a deck. Yet the horse racing factor, skill cards, and leveling up, has me wondering if I've got a few hands left in me. I'm intrigued. I intentionally avoided the demo before this was released because I usually want my first time playing a game to be the real thing. I might just have to bite on this and see for myself.
Always love hearing from Nintendo in my emails, regardless. Last time I logged in, the points were there and I wondered if this was brand new, or if maybe it was a new hidden mission. Thanks for reporting NL.
Picked it up when I upgraded to an XL back in 2014, but I'm still not too far into the game (still have a habit of collecting, and booting up games a lot, but I can't play as much as I used to - my life and hard work would be over lol), but I loved what I DID play. Should be back real soon at least, unlike gb tetris, which was pulled when Ultimate Tetris launched (so it didn't undermine its sales imo). Man, I miss that version of Tetris. Really wanting to beat my personal line record from when I was 10 yrs old (267 lines) but ...Nintendo pulled it. Hoping "VVVVVV" gets Atlus' treatment as well, as it was yanked for this exact reason earlier in the month. Its on my list, but no word yet if its ever coming back.
Edit - just scored a gb copy of Tetris on cart. Wow its tough to hit the 200 line mark consistently.
This should be an interesting one to follow. I wonder if they're leaning towards an E, or T+ audience/rating for this venture. Hoping for the latter, but thats prob unlikely.
It looks half decent, but I wonder how well it plays. Well, S.K. has always had the best pirated/counterfeit software, so maybe they got the control right? I would play this.
I am a major downloader on 3ds myself, as I couldn't wait to get most of those darn carts outta my pockets, and ditch the old carry cases to boot (its been a long wait for me on this subject lol). I do still prefer physical on a home console howevs.
Anyway, considering the EU's bizarre eshop/retail backwards pricing debacle, its no wonder that NA accounts for half of those DL's.
This could turn out to be a good strategy for Nintendo. Winding down the Wii U a bit slower than the NX eager fans want perhaps...but building longterm anticipation instead of short term, avoiding direct immediate competition with PS4K and having time to process and possibly counter Sony's VR success or lack thereof, and most importantly, increasing their mainstream exposure with the mobile venture 1st. They may need this time to build that audience, or it could be another Wii U (sales wise) all over again.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Sets Criteria to Turn Nintendo's Virtual Reality Research Into a Product
Re: Reaction: Key Early Lessons We Learned About The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Re: Legend of Zelda 3DS HOME Theme and Miitomo My Nintendo Rewards Go Live
Figures that the Zelda theme would have the same elevator music that the first 2 My Nintendo themes did - arghhh. They should've specifically left this one silent imo. I rotate about 20 themes, and haven't used the freebies in 2 months, yet I worry that every note in this ultra peppy song is now forever with me.
Re: Nintendo Unveils Massive E3 eShop Sale in North America
Those are great prices for Majoras and Project X Zone 2 here in Canada. I have MM physically (only because it was a gift), but would love having it on the home screen beside Oot 3d.
Re: Gallery: The Artwork in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Beautiful
Wow could these be our first glimpse of NX "in game" screenshots?
Re: Random: Store Shelves Appear To Be Filling With Pre-Owned Copies Of Star Fox Zero
I can't believe ppl consider great games as disposable. It reminds me the "download and dump" attitudes of the past. They just rip through everything.
Re: A Tetris Movie is in the Making
While it might be everyone's first instinct to mock this due to the source material, nostalgia forces me to be optimistic at this early stage. Like, if you make an awesome adventure, with an eventual Tetris tournament, and lots of fan service and references it could work. Sadly, if the ppl making this didn't experience the Tetris phenomenon in its heyday, then I question their intentions and passion here (cash grab). "Filming in China" is where they lost my hopes. All Chinese cast? Arghhh
Re: M2 Thinks Sega's Alien Syndrome Would Make A Great 3D Classic
Re: Review: Pocket Card Jockey (3DS eShop)
This was a well written review. Lots to consider with this one. I've been seriously over exposed to playing cards by certain friends, and I now unfortunately cringe when I see someone bust out a deck. Yet the horse racing factor, skill cards, and leveling up, has me wondering if I've got a few hands left in me. I'm intrigued. I intentionally avoided the demo before this was released because I usually want my first time playing a game to be the real thing. I might just have to bite on this and see for myself.
Re: Review: Sssnakes (3DS eShop)
Snake has always bored me to tears, yet I strangely want to add this to the home screen.
Re: Review: Paranautical Activity (Wii U eShop)
I'll be giving this one a try. You had me at "so bad its good". Love me some fromage from time to time.
Re: My Nintendo Now Offers Platinum Points if You Sign Up for Promotional Emails
Always love hearing from Nintendo in my emails, regardless. Last time I logged in, the points were there and I wondered if this was brand new, or if maybe it was a new hidden mission. Thanks for reporting NL.
Re: Citizens Of Earth Pulled From 3DS eShop Following Exploit Discovery
Re: EB Games Display Lists Mighty No. 9 for a Summer 2016 Release
Not surprised at this point, and I loved the 2022 estimate.
Re: Rumour: Retro Studios is Working on a New IP, Releases 2017
This should be an interesting one to follow. I wonder if they're leaning towards an E, or T+ audience/rating for this venture. Hoping for the latter, but thats prob unlikely.
Re: Random: Fan Mod Brings Super Mario World to the Sega Mega Drive Classics Hub
It looks half decent, but I wonder how well it plays. Well, S.K. has always had the best pirated/counterfeit software, so maybe they got the control right? I would play this.
Re: Nintendo's eShop Revenues Hit a New High, Driven By DLC and Generation I Pokémon
Re: Feature: A Summary of Nintendo's Key Announcements on NX, E3 and Mobile
This could turn out to be a good strategy for Nintendo. Winding down the Wii U a bit slower than the NX eager fans want perhaps...but building longterm anticipation instead of short term, avoiding direct immediate competition with PS4K and having time to process and possibly counter Sony's VR success or lack thereof, and most importantly, increasing their mainstream exposure with the mobile venture 1st. They may need this time to build that audience, or it could be another Wii U (sales wise) all over again.
