Nintendo wants to send us chirpy emails telling us about current games, upcoming releases and so on, and part of signing up for a Nintendo Account is deciding whether to accept these promotional messages. Nintendo is so keen that we get these, in fact, that it's now giving out Platinum My Nintendo points for all that are signed up.
If you sign up for these emails you get a one-off 30 points, while you can get another 10 points every month if you stay signed up.
In general Nintendo doesn't get too carried away with these promotional emails, so for points chasers it's likely worth it.
For some, though, spam just isn't desirable - Nintendo may not get everyone in exchange for shiny points.
Yes, we're aware that Nintendo's emails aren't technically spam by the definition of the term, but any excuse for Monty Python videos is happily taken.

Just checked My Nintendo, this is also a thing in North America.
...Unlike the Bravely Second 3DS theme reward.
...this is the 2nd time this week that I've seen that video randomly. Crazy, heh.
I've heard that people in the UK are about to get more rewards...
As it happens, today's Nintendo Newsletter even mentioned that My Nintendo will have some new rewards on Monday May 16th.
So that's nice.
Sign up for emails then mark them as junk? No emails. Free points.
@RupeeClock
Mine too
Can`t wait!
Ya, new rewards are coming on Monday. I got an e-mail earlier today.
http://view.mail.nintendo-europe.com/?qs=51803eb243e9ed75c071cc0fb7716287ae227d762ded5866a27e38d22a82b6e15d788d21687513b79374f556f3406bafe49d651a19947c5897109b666760533b7547599919f6ed85
Let's hope they finally add something worthwhile.
What bugged me about the e-mail was this.
Stage fight
Discover two worlds with one heroic destiny in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, coming exclusively to Wii U on June 24th. Also available at launch, the Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE: Fortissimo Edition* features an Artbook, Sound Selection CD and much more!
*Please check with your local retailer for information on current availability.
And I was saying good one Nintendo. You can't buy it anywhere. Must be why they put Mirage in the games title.
...My points are overflowing...lol
Perfect! Just as I redeems my Points for Warioware last Monday.
Not bad
Shoehorning Monty Python into the article? You guys are awesome
I hope we get better rewards for gold coins
"Yes, we're aware that Nintendo's emails aren't technically spam by the definition of the term, but any excuse for Monty Python videos is happily taken."
Can't help but wonder if Thomas was viewing the pokemon sun and moon thread yesterday

It's...

... Mario Python's Flying Saa-kus!
"Yes, we're aware that Nintendo's emails aren't technically spam by the definition of the term, but any excuse for Monty Python videos is happily taken."
LOL
I don't mind the random Nintendo promo emails. Easy platinum points.
The inclusion of Monty Python is welcome
And so are Nintendo emails.
I tend to ignore their emails anyway, so
Too bad the rewards still suck. I'm pretty sure this is no gold or platinum status so no yearly free stuff either.
Look, can I have the Spam, Platinum Coins and Gold Coins without the Spam?
...they also took away two weekly 30 plt coin missions, signing in to mynintendo and the official website. so they actually took away 230 potential coins a month... small oversight there hopefully XD
nice!! That Zelda Picross is practically guaranteed. (^_^ )/
Yes, they are spam and they are annoying at times, but I guess that's the price for a few points. They need to advertise their stuff anyway.
@RupeeClock this in the us too?
...oh, I don't know if I'll have time to read those Nintendo...you got me so busy raising two little miitomos for coins already..
Their emails are harmless and don't arrive that often, so I'm fine with their promo emails, even if I almost never open them.
Thanks for the Monty Python clip!
I haven't seen much Monty Python myself, but I always did like that clip lol.
Wow, am I the only one who reads Nintendo's emails?
Half the time I get news there before I get it here, and sometimes they send you free stuff. Getting Platinum coins is a nice bonus.
"you can get another 10 points every month if you stay signed up."
Why do you assume it is every month? The fact that unclaimed points expire after 30 days, has no relation to how often missions can he completed. All four other repeated missions are weekly, two of which has to be manually claimed within 30 days.
I'm still in a massive huff about the fact that this coercive, 'jump-through-hoops' based, two-tiered points system even exists.
//Storms off indignantly//
...
//Storms back//
My Nintendo was more charming (if a bit clunky) and didn't ask you to perform all these inane tasks that are annoying, but too trivial to kick up much of a fuss about without getting laughed at.
@8Darky
"...they also took away two weekly 30 plt coin missions, signing in to mynintendo and the official website."
Are to sure? If they did, they did the last five days, because I got all four weekly missions totaling 120 platinum points on May 9th.
I was worried I could not get any worthy rewards without Miitomo but now I see that using Mittomo is kind of pointless, as most people agree it's boring and there's nothing more for spending the extra points you get with it anyway.
Wasn't expecting the Spamish Inquisition.
I have been signed up for nintendo newsletter for ages and it's not that spammy, it's just a weekly mail with releases/promos. All my newletters go into my spam email anyway. it's not that bad.
@BornInNorway81 post #35, the mission states monthly.
I wouldn't be surprised if future Platinum Point rewards cost just a bit more due to the fact it's now even easier to get them.
So, every time we get the email do we have to go into the My Nintendo website and click on the "Mission" to get the coins?
Miitomo is lame, the rewards are lame, the entire system is pretty lame, but having to go into "Missions" to click on them to get coins for Missions Nintendo knows we already did or else they wouldn't be available to click on is the lamest of all. Having to go into "Gifts" in Miitomo to get rewards isn't as bad as I'm already in Miitomo, but I just don't see the need to go to a website every week to click on missions. I'd rather go back to filling out surveys for disc game purchases.
Is there a My Nintendo app yet, on mobile or WiiU, I might remember to do it then.
@buildz Smoke n' mirrors, friend. They removed 2 of the weekly 30 point missions (sign in to My Nintendo, and Vistit the Nintendo web site), so its actually now a bit harder...
@rjejr not an app, but the website is optimized for mobile. Its pretty good. you can collect all the missions on their without any silly pinch zooming or anything like that.
@daveh30 Hmm... I didn't see that change. I guess just signing in wouldn't really be much of a benefit to Nintendo, whereas forcing people to read their newsletter would be. Knowing that, I take back what I said before, they'll probably just stay the same value.
@Trinexx the Bravely Second theme isn't available in the US? I actually wanted that. And here I thought this new system would end this regional availability nonsense.
@BornInNorway81 i check the site daily and the missions i mentioned are no longer there, hopefully they will be added back on later but i doubt it. this is typical nintendo, like when they ended club nintendo just before the n3ds/majoras mask na launch, those potential points wouldve been nice but for whatever reason they ended the program early
@Mr_Zurkon: I can't find it on the rewards page. I can see the Mario and Donkey Kong My Nintendo themes, but no Bravely Second theme. It seems to only be an EU reward at this time.
@8Darky These are "stealth missions", no mention of them, and it has never been to my knowledge. When on My Nintendo, click the coins beside your Mii, under point box, and you'll get 30 points. Open nintendo.com, 30 more points.
@Trinexx Yeah I was just looking too. Thanks for nothing NOA, yet again!
"Watch this ad and get platinum points!"
Nintendo what have you become?
@A01 cant you just sign up then unsign up?
get your free pts then not get emails?
Always love hearing from Nintendo in my emails, regardless. Last time I logged in, the points were there and I wondered if this was brand new, or if maybe it was a new hidden mission. Thanks for reporting NL.
@daveh30 hmm, I've never tried the website on my tablet, I'll give it a try, thanks. Would probably make more sense to do it after Miitomo than on my PC which doesn't have Miitomo. There is no Win 10 Miitomo app is there?
@BornInNorway81 hopefully you are right, i will check in next week to see if those missions are still active, but im almost sure they were on the mission list but are now removed
@SLIGEACH_EIRE They must've made 200 copies for all of Europe lol.
@RupeeClock
That's as two of the original rewards expire on 16th May that's all.
@8Darky Tomorrow start the next week in My Nintendo, so we can see if it was removed. But I always check the missions list and I never saw these two missions there, like BornInNorway81 said those are hidden missions
Yes these two "missions" are still there and live today.
"...they also took away two weekly 30 plt coin missions, signing in to mynintendo and the official website."
New rewards are up, discounts on Wind Waker Selects Version on Wii U (20% platinum) and Nintendo Pocket Football on the 3DS (20% platinum, 50% gold).
Roll on the next batch....
@BornInNorway81 yep you are correct, those 2 missions are 'stealth' missions not listed on the mission list. i dont mind eating my words XD. seems funny that they arent listed but they know better than i how to run their business
