The Kid Icarus series is something of an oddity in Nintendo's long history; it hasn't received very many entries, yet continues to endure via references in other Nintendo games and media. Pit hasn't been seen in a new game since 2012's excellent Kid Icarus: Uprising, but there's always hope that we won't have to wait another 25 years until the character steps into the limelight once again. Still, the existent three games are pretty good, and now's a great time to jump in if you haven't yet had the chance to play them.
My Nintendo in North America recently updated with some new rewards oriented around the Kid Icarus franchise, and there's some rather compelling stuff up for grabs. Those animated shorts that came out around the time of Uprising's launch are available to download, and every game in the series is discounted to some degree. Here's the new stuff:
- (Video) Kid Icarus 3D Anime: Thanatos Rising – 100 Platinum Coins
- (Video) Kid Icarus 3D Anime: Palutena's Revolting Dinner – 100 Platinum Coins
- (Video) Kid Icarus 3D Anime: Medusa's Revenge – 100 Platinum Coins
- 30% off Kid Icarus: Uprising – 80 Gold Coins
- 30% off 3D Classics: Kid Icarus – 20 Gold Coins
- 30% off Kid Icarus – 20 Gold Coins
- 30% off Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters – 10 Gold Coins
What do you think? Will you get any of these? How long do you think it'll be till the next Kid Icarus? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Woo hoo. Videos.
Really hoping for some sort of Kid Icarus on Switch. Uprising was absolutely incredible!
I flipped out when I saw that it was 80 Gold Points for the discounts on all the games. Turns out it was just a typo. :/
EDIT: And now it's fixed.
Oh joy..........more discounts.
I love Kid Icarus Uprising. It's one of my favorite 3DS games... please, add some of the discount for EU too.
Why waste 100 Platinum Coins on those videos when you can just watch them on YouTube for free?
It's been years since I last played Kid Icarus: Uprising. Definitely will be picking up the discount. I also hope to see a Kid Icarus title on the Switch in the future.
@CapeSmash because, if you're like me, you have a ton of coins expiring in a week or so and have nothing else to use them on =/
Freaking loved Kid Icarus: Uprising
My Nintendo is a joke. Bring back club Nintendo
Never put "New Kid Icarus" in a sentence in that order ever again! You're playing with my soul!
"Club Nintendo was so much better!"
Not really. On Club Nintendo, 700 points got you Kid Icarus Uprising. That's 11 1/2 retail Wii U games or 17 1/2 retail 3DS games. AKA $700 worth of stuff. (Less than 6¢ a point)
I got about 7 retail games on my Wii U before Club Nintendo went away, and only a few more 3DS games.
Not to mention VC games were 200 coins. $200 > a little $5 game as a reward.
Now let's look at My Nintendo.
30% off Kid Icarus Uprising ($12) for 80 Gold Coins, aka 2 3DS retail games or $80.
That's 15¢ a Gold Point, an inheritedly better deal.
Also, the MK8 DLC packs, which most MK8 owners do not have, are 60 gold points each for $7 worth of content. That's a bit over 11¢ a Gold Point.
And Wario Land 3: a $5 game for 40 gold points, a far, far cry from the 200 points for Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels.
Now that's not to say there weren't cool rewards on My Nintendo, but even the Game & Watch replicas were over 1000 points, which is way more than I personally ever had.
@CapeSmash I haven't sat down to watch them yet, but if they are the same ones from when the game launched I believe they are in 3D.
@ThePoochyKid That's great and all but at least Club Nintendo gave you a variety of rewards such as T-Shirts, Bags, Plushies, etc. Also they didn't give you discounts they flat out gave you the game. I got Mario Party Island Tour and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D from them when they were doing their end of the year event. Didn't cost a single coin.
@CapeSmash the fact that they are in 3D I suppose
@ThePoochyKid It was even worse in UK,after spending around £900 on games and the console itself which also earned you stars, all I managed to redeem from the pathetically slim pickings before it closed was Fire Emblem Sacred Stones GBA and Wii Street U.The selection on MyNitendo leaves a lot to be desired but the value of the points is far more than CN.
Owned a 3DS since launch & I have yet to play Uprising.
Only thing I'm aware of is that Dark Pit is an edgelord & Palutena has nice underwear, all thanks to Smash.
@ThePoochyKid Full games weren't the main rewards on Club Nintendo, at least not until the end. The Mario Kart 8 DLC is IMO one of the few actually good rewards on My Nintendo.
Stuff like the Mario Kart 8 free game offer were great too. I've got the following games for free through Club Nintendo: Pokemon X, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, DKCR 3D, Flipnote Studio 3D, 3D Classics: Xevious, Pikmin 3, and NES Remix, plus the SSB4 soundtrack.
Nothing but free themes from My Nintendo so far.
It may be "better value" but the rewards are worse (unless you were already looking to buy something discounted), which defeats the whole purpose.
Trying to find a card album for the Uprising AR cards. Nobody seems to have one!
Ooooowh so now we're gonna upload everything that ever was on Nintendo Video, right?! Can't wait for the Kirby Right Back At Ya! for 100 platinum coins per episode!
Is that my reward ;(
Been aching to dive back into Uprising. Actually, it's just one of the many 3DS games I have been wanting to play again. But there is no denying that Uprising was phenomenal in almost every way. I would kill for a sequel on Switch or even a remaster with extra content would be more than enough for me
I'll grab the videos if they come to the PAL regions just to offload some Platinum coins before they expire but really there's nothing worthwhile here.
Could at least give us a Kid Icarus home theme or something.
A lot of people seem to want a new Kid Icarus game but I actually don't think I do, and that's with Uprising being my favourite game ever.
It was perfect enough to leave me feeling satisfied and I don't think they could make a game anywhere near as good without the 3DS touch screen controls.
@ECMIM Not only that, but watching them on YouTube they are zoomed in or lower quality than even 3ds, to avoid copyright!
@BenAV I'd kill for an HD sequel, but I do agree that the different controls would be a miss. I know they polarized people, but I thought the controls felt PERFECT, I can't imagine playing it any other way.
Awesome! I love Kid Icarus, and I enjoyed the 3D anime they did, so I'll pick those up.
Not much else to spend coins on anyway. :/
Loved playing all versions, but why only discounts? My Nintendo -> useless
@SwitchVogel Contrasting with Star Fox Zero, Uprising's controls were totally ace! No sarcasm, just my opinion. I should give that game another whirl...
Would get these if Europe
@ThePoochyKid
Physical rewards got you points and they didn't expire on club nintendo. So i was much more likely to get rewards. Plus absolutely free games versus a 30% discount on most things. I mean Best Buy/Amazon offer 20% off games up front and Target offers buy 2 get 1 free twice a year (33% off) and that's not even including used game prices which generally hit much greater % off. Not to say their aren't deals to be had (MK8 DLC) but most of the time I get better deals on these games by finding a sale on a retail game. I know I paid less than that for Uprising and I got to use the points for a reward on Club Nintendo. Plus, I have 90% of the games on here that they offer and the 10% I don't are intentional. Most Nintendo fans won't be able to get any rewards because they've purchased these already. They need to expand the discount to newer games and a wider variety to have any benefit.
@MagicEmperor It's partially because unlike Star Fox, you aren't awkwardly moving around to aim at things. Even Star Fox 64 3D handled gyro controls better.
@BenAV 100% agreed. Let's just wait for Kid Icarus' 50th Anniversary, and hopefully the game will once again offer unique gameplay that wasn't seen in past games.
Loved uprising.
But yeah, I'm on the club Nintendo side, of myths and monsters was free on that.
I want a new entry on the switch! Well, even an HD version of uprising will do( with gyro support)!
I wish there were more interesting rewards and not just coupons and pictures/videos. Stuff like that was maybe cool 10-15 years ago. If I really wanted a Mario mobile wallpaper there are plenty to chose from on google. Physical rewards would be really great, like what Club Nintendo offered. Though I don't really remember Club Nintendo too much because I always never had enough points to get any cool rewards and the points always expired when I was saving them up for one of the more expensive rewards...
Uprising is a mostly fantastic game. The ground controls are a little odd, and the difficulty gets a bit ridiculous, more thr good definitely out weighs the bad.
Sigh... No one cares about discounts!
Discounts... blah
Club Nintendo was infinitely better, and there has been nothing in My Nintendo to convince me otherwise. Thing is, Club Nintendo was cool, but not even that great. That is to say, the bar wasn't set very high, but My Nintendo has been significantly worse, which is really something.
@Kayfios Yeah. Zero truly was a Zero for me, but I commend those who have enjoyed it. One fan outright told me I wasn't developed enough to handle it. I resent that! I AM developed!
sips chocolate milk with a kiddie straw
Is award the right word? I've seen that used a few times and I started to assume Kid Icarus had won an award, not that players could be rewarded with a discount. I'm not a grammar scientist so I could totally be mistaken.
Been five years already...
I played a lot of Uprising. Put over 350 hours into it.
@Yorumi
You aren't because it is always going to be improved the next update, the next game release, the next console release, etc.
Couldn't even give us a 3DS theme of Kid Icarus so I find something to use all these silver points on? Yeesh.
Kid Icarus: Uprising was a fun game held back by a strange and uncomfortable control scheme.
Anyway, now I finally have something to use my platinum coins on!
Something decent at least. The Kid Icarus videos are very fun to watch! Sadly, that's the only good one. Discounts on games again I already own.
@ThePoochyKid $1 spent did not work out to 1 point on Club Nintendo. Sure, the retail purchases pretty much worked out that way, but your Virtual Console, DSiWare, WiiWare, and eShop purchases each provided 20 or 30 points while usually only costing between $5-15 to purchase.
It's kind of odd that it costs more coins to get the discount on the original Kid Icarus game when the sequel (Of Myths & Monsters) is the much better game.
Club Nintendo was so much better than My Nintendo has proven to be so far, in my opinion. CN was by no means perfect and tended to rely more and more on digital rewards towards the end, but from that program I got a bunch of great collectibles:
Mario Statue
Pikmin Tote Bag
Animal Crossing playing cards
Animal Crossing DS game holder
Starman messenger bag
a ton of posters
three t-shirts
Mario Party playing cards
Super Smash Bros 4 CD soundtrack
Animal Crossing DS carrying pouch
White Wii Remote holder
I keep hoping that eventually My Nintendo will follow suit with a few great physical rewards, but my hope is growing thin.
How long are the videos?
Heres an idea. Why can't I use a few My Nintendo shekels on something I need in a real game... like STAR FRAGMENTS on Breath of The Wild?!! 5 Gold Coins a Star Fragment. Because right now NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.
@MagicEmperor A simple toggle would've been all it took to make that game amazing in the eyes of all Star Fox fans, not just its defenders.
@VR32F1END That... actually sounds cool. I'd love to use this mountain of coins in more than just mobile games.
Alright, but when are we going to get a new Kid Icarus? I'd settle for Uprising HD even.
Even with this discount, it's no more expensive getting Uprising at retail.
Another classic example of My Nintendo putting up discounts on games that the majority of their fanbase already own. Other than the videos, I own all of these games on my 3DS.....don't need to buy them again. I really wish Nintendo would finally admit that My Nintendo is a failure and go back to Club Nintendo....at least with that, we had some decent collectibles we could get our hands on.
I couldn't get into Kid Icarus 3d but it sure was a pretty game. I wont be spending my points. I sure miss the old Club Nintendo. It felt so fulfilling to get the free swag and games. It was just plain good old fun
I've never played a game from the Kid Icarus series, but I may grab one of the two earlier games. From what I've read about Uprising, it's a great game. It's just not for me (unless I invested in a Circle Pad Pro).
I wonder when My Nintendo will bring back full games like that Super Mario 64 offering from earlier in the program. I finally have enough coins for it.
This is the game that got me excited about nintendo again (well, this and skyward sword). I was pretty distant from video games for a few years - I was a late adopter of the wii. But, uprising gave me rejuvenated faith in the art of video games. I would love sequel...on the 3DS. Sorry, but I think the dual-screen functionality and glasses-free 3-D help make it the special video game it became. I'm holding out hope for a true 3DS successor.
Aww, gimmie those for Europe!
@Tyranexx I'm left handed and I do the aiming with my right hand quite well. It took a while to get the hang of it but it pays off so well in the end. Don't let the whole circle pad pro thing turn you off!!! It's too much fun you don't even think to need the CPP... Just my opinion...
Hope Pit flies to the switch soon... Well... if palutena permits it (;
@ThePoochyKid Anyone anywhere can buy that stuff(my Nintendo rewards). You cant buy the club Nintendo stuff anywhere except second hand sellers. That's what makes it so great, I hope you enjoy the electronic rewards from my Nintendo, as I will always cherish my physical posters, game cases, exclusive game soundtracks, pouches, and retro game and watch handhelds that no one's (almost no one) has.
Yes! Finally! I have been waiting to own these 3D Kid Icarus anime shorts. Can't wait!
@Kayfios I'm shocked as well!
I loved every Kid Icarus game ever, and own them all. I'd buy any new game he was in. Here's to hoping
@Tyranexx original kid icarus on NES is a true classic. I've always considered it the '4th pillar' of the original NES (SMB, Zelda, Metroid....and poor old forgotten Pit). If you have a 3DS, the 3D classics version they released is really worthy.
I'll probably buy the videos. Don't really have anything else to spend platinum points on (currently sitting at 1790 platinum points)
@MagicEmperor Not only that, but I'm convinced that the forced GamePad controls are the sole reason Zero joined the likes of Star Fox (SNES) and Adventures as one of the few games to lack multiplayer. Considering the variety of the vehicles in the game, I can't help but think about what could've been.
Ugh...at least there are some videos that I will need to upgrade my SD card to watch.
Not sure why they can't put the anime vids on Wii U.
Oh well, I have all the games on 3DS, so may as well get NES Kid Icarus on Wii U discounted.
My points will expire soon anyway...
These deals from Nintendo suck
@walrusballs: Hmm, I may consider picking it up in the future then. I don't have problems with most games due to button adaptation, but the last DS game I played with right-handed stylus controls was kinda awkward.
@unoclay: I may pick that up, thanks.
Ahhh reminders of my left handed nightmare!! Eventually found a technique but ouch! This coming from a guy who learned the right side joystick (ambidextrous control layout) of certain Atari fame, and the Korean style "fingers only" NES/SNES play style of old. Still revert to the latter in the middle of fighting games once my health is in the red haha. Always gets a reaction, especially in the west. But ya... gorgeous game, and brutal controls for lefties.
And I'm one of the ones here who sadly appreciates these 3d cartoons in my inside jacket pocket. Keeping me company after long nights, along with the Switch.
These are not awards/rewards. Give me back Club Nintendo!! and big thanks for all those who always complained about that wonderful service and now we lost it forever.
@ThePoochyKid are you freaking kidding? "Discounts" are always worthless because you can always get cheaper with old games or used, and there are discount sales anyway being done. Getting a free game, no added nothing, that is so much better. And physical rewards, really cool beautiful collectibles at your door... a dream now gone destroyed forever. And what do you even get coins for? Not like before, with many surveys and options. Here you hardly get them and they just expire all the time.
Now with these released, I really only need "The Rifle's Spiral" music video to have my top Nintendo Video lineup on demand.
I already put my 3DS in a box and in the closet after I got my Switch. Might be cool to see this shorts on 3D, but meh.
