That's an insane price. I don't even think it stands up very well against the horde of roguelike twin stick games that have come out since. I'd take Enter the Gungeon (routinely on sale for less than £3) over BoI any day.
I'm curious to know how many developers go to the trouble of patching their games for Switch2, without making an extra charge. The Original Switch has a stack of great games that run like trash, either with choppy frame rates (which will presumably just sort themselves out to some extent with the extra power under the hood), but then there's the ones that had to be butchered to get them to run at all (like Journey to the Savage Planet); will they bother un-butcher them without having to fork out for a "switch 2 edition" upgrade?
Yeah Oblivion is "easy" to modernise because it's basically fine as it is. The fact that Morrowind would be difficult to modernise is exactly why its worth doing.
@Yosti nah I don't think so, it was just a more interesting game to me. I sunk a lot of hours into Morrowind and Skyrim but I got bored on Oblivion very quickly.
But Morrowind is incredibly dated now. It's really clunky by 2025 standards which is why it's a rare example of a game I'd say is genuinely worth remaking.
There's a project called SkyWind that's trying to rebuild it in the Skyrim engine but who knows if it'll ever see the light of day.
I really liked this game, but I wish they'd do something to make combat a bit more rewarding. The way the sentinels just keep coming, like the cops in GTA, means the only way out of combat is to run away and hide.
I know they said they weren't going to focus on games, but I assumed that meant they would at least give proper focus to the hardware. All they've really done is shown the shape of the thing, which 1) is essentially the same as the old one, and 2) has already been leaked to death.
@Qwiff One thing I remember about the sequel is that there was a cheat whereby if you made a crotch-thrusting gesture at the rear end of a cow then it would drop endless extra lives.
This is what happens when you let the French sense of humour creep into computer games.
This game was miles ahead of it's time when it came out and very influential, but when I tried replaying it a few years ago it was a bit of a slog. That was mostly control issues though, so this could be great
The implementation's pretty great I'd say. For such a complicated mechanic on a controller I can't really fault it.
My only real gripe is there's a bit of a lack of creativity in how it's used in the game. Far too many side quests that equate to: build another car (from the conveniently located pile of car parts).
Everyone saying "it's no different to Overwatch 1" is crazy. It's **so much worse**. I played the original daily on switch for a couple of years, but performance on 2 is hopeless. Gave up on it after a couple of days.
I was pretty embarrassed not have seen the events at end of the first chapter of Broken Age coming. I spent about 3 seconds thinking "what a great twist", followed by a much longer period of reflection on how incredibly obvious it should have been.
Ironically Nintendo thinks the game I've played the most is Overwatch 2 because its merged it with the original. I think I only played that twice before deleting it.
@rupert_the_giantbear my Watford will be the one I left in 2001 so there'll still be an Athena in the Harlequin centre and a strict no trainers policy at Destiny. Oasis News will happily serve whisky to 13 year olds though, even if their fake ID has been printed in black and white and laminated with cellotape.
Well having now actually played a couple of rounds; Switch version is a massive downgrade. Both lower frame rate and grainier visuals.
Doesn't feel like a sequel at all. It's the same game but with a few extra maps and characters and, on switch at least, degraded performance. Huge disappointment.
Definitely possible it's an excuse, but clearly there's an army of folk with daggers out for Blizzard. Hardly seems far fetched that they'd be with with a DDoS.
Well I might be the only person on the planet that's looking forward to it. Overwatch is my most played Switch game by a mile and I'm excited to see where they go with it.
The only way to make an authentic Minecraft movie is to make it a 14 hour long art house epic. No dialogue; no cuts. 1 man struggling against the elements to make a cake.
I'm not sure I follow how gyro controls will work. Will it just be like a FPS where you tilt your controller to move an onscreen pointer? Or will it behave in some way gun/pointer like?
I'm absolutely hopeless with Doomfist as it stands so any shakeup that might make him a more playable option is fine by me.
Having said that, I do love seeing people play him well. Can't help but applaud when I find myself getting juggled around like a rag doll by someone that knows what they're doing with him.
Everyone always moans about the sales but every year I pick up at least half a dozen games in the black-friday-ish discounts. Wolfenstein, Quake, FEZ, Grindstone, Master Blaster, Flinthook and OkunoKA Madness for less than £40. No complaints here.
@nessisonett if they suddenly allowed emulation then every new player would have an advantage over historic scores, not least because they could pick whatever controller they liked.
@TuxDC agreed. I was thinking of picking this up (partly on the strength of this review) but fortunately spotted the abysmal user ratings on metacritic first.
As someone who grew up as a PC gamer in the 90s, looking at my friend's SNES's with green eyes, I have to ask the question: why would anyone deliberately recreate the hell of DOS platformers?

Seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity. Morrowind is far more deserving (and in need) of a remake.

Re: It's Official, 'Switch 2' Will Be Backwards Compatible
I think people are seeing what they want to see in this statement.
It doesn't say "all" anywhere in there. If it was fully backward compatible then what would they have to say about "compatibility" at "a later date"?
What this says to me is: some switch software will work on Switch 2, and we'll break the bad news about all the stuff that won't work down the line.
