Re: Switch 2's Backwards Compatibility List Provides Updates On Two Titles

ian_beale

I'm curious to know how many developers go to the trouble of patching their games for Switch2, without making an extra charge. The Original Switch has a stack of great games that run like trash, either with choppy frame rates (which will presumably just sort themselves out to some extent with the extra power under the hood), but then there's the ones that had to be butchered to get them to run at all (like Journey to the Savage Planet); will they bother un-butcher them without having to fork out for a "switch 2 edition" upgrade?

Re: Rumour: Bethesda's Elder Scrolls: Oblivion "Remake" Could Be Arriving Soon

ian_beale

@Yosti nah I don't think so, it was just a more interesting game to me. I sunk a lot of hours into Morrowind and Skyrim but I got bored on Oblivion very quickly.

But Morrowind is incredibly dated now. It's really clunky by 2025 standards which is why it's a rare example of a game I'd say is genuinely worth remaking.

There's a project called SkyWind that's trying to rebuild it in the Skyrim engine but who knows if it'll ever see the light of day.

Re: Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?

ian_beale

I know they said they weren't going to focus on games, but I assumed that meant they would at least give proper focus to the hardware. All they've really done is shown the shape of the thing, which 1) is essentially the same as the old one, and 2) has already been leaked to death.

Re: It's Official, 'Switch 2' Will Be Backwards Compatible

ian_beale

I think people are seeing what they want to see in this statement.

It doesn't say "all" anywhere in there. If it was fully backward compatible then what would they have to say about "compatibility" at "a later date"?

What this says to me is: some switch software will work on Switch 2, and we'll break the bad news about all the stuff that won't work down the line.

@rupert_the_giantbear my Watford will be the one I left in 2001 so there'll still be an Athena in the Harlequin centre and a strict no trainers policy at Destiny. Oasis News will happily serve whisky to 13 year olds though, even if their fake ID has been printed in black and white and laminated with cellotape.

Re: Overwatch 2 Servers Hit By "Mass DDoS Attack" On Launch Day

ian_beale

Well having now actually played a couple of rounds; Switch version is a massive downgrade. Both lower frame rate and grainier visuals.

Doesn't feel like a sequel at all. It's the same game but with a few extra maps and characters and, on switch at least, degraded performance. Huge disappointment.

Re: Blizzard Confirms Doomfist Will Be A Tank Hero In Overwatch 2

ian_beale

I'm absolutely hopeless with Doomfist as it stands so any shakeup that might make him a more playable option is fine by me.

Having said that, I do love seeing people play him well. Can't help but applaud when I find myself getting juggled around like a rag doll by someone that knows what they're doing with him.

Re: Review: Immortal Redneck (Switch eShop)

ian_beale

I really want to like this game but it's so damn ugly its hard to look at. I almost can't believe that the screenshots here are from the Switch port as they look a hell of a lot better than the game looks in play.

Re: Rumour: Is Something Going On Between Microsoft And Nintendo?

ian_beale

Sorry to be chaining rumours to other rumours, but it seems to me like DLSS (if that arrives on a Switch Pro) could massively improve cloud gaming. If it works the way I understand it, then a relatively low resolution image could be sent over your internet connection and then upscaled locally. I would have thought it would make the service far more stable for people with slightly underwhelming internet connections.

So yeah; xCloud feels entirely plausible to me.
