Re: Sonic Frontiers "Definitive Edition" Has Been Rated In Korea

@Serpenterror The answer to why they won’t do it is because the amount of time and resources it would take to remake the Adventure games would be similar to the amount it would take for a new game, and because Adventure gameplay is so different from the current Frontiers gameplay, Iizuka said he would rather take Sonic in his current direction.

It’s funny because I always saw the Adventure gameplay as the definitive formula for 3D Sonic. But they practically threw it away after the 2nd game and never looked back. I’m not the biggest fan of Frontiers, but if they really improve upon it, the next game could be quite enjoyable.

Re: Review: Yoshi And The Mysterious Book (Switch 2) - Charming Enough, But Ultimately Lacklustre

@LikelySatan Yoshi’s Island is good because Nintendo made it. Same reason why the first Luigi’s Mansion is the best out of the current trilogy.

Sometimes I wish Nintendo would go back to making some of these franchises instead of delegating them to other studios that don’t have anywhere near the same talent as EPD.

The pinnacle of Yoshi still being the SNES game is quite sad, but also speaks volumes.

Re: Price Controversy Did Nothing To Stifle Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen On Switch

This is a great example as to why piracy is such a non-factor to gaming.

I don’t have hard data on me, but I’m very confident the GBA Pokemon games are some of the most downloaded ROMs of all time, especially R/S/E. Yet here we are, with 4 million sales for the Kano remakes. Bet it would have sold even more if they made these games available earlier into the Switch 1’s lifespan, but this is still an insane number for how old these games are.

Bring on the Hoenn games.

Re: Analyst Predicts A "Silent" Year Ahead For Nintendo

If by June 2027, Nintendo’s biggest release is the OoT remake, then Nintendo really wet the bed with their game development and release schedule.

To not have prioritized a new Smash, 3D Mario, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, or Luigi’s Mansion is mind-boggling.

Re: Nintendo Announces Sweeping Price Hikes For Switch 2

This sucks. But I won’t fall prey to an impulse buy. Their library isn’t worth it yet. And I’m still not happy with the screen ghosting. I can probably hold out for an upgraded model.

Edit: At the very least, it’s nice that the western market has an almost 4 month buffer period.

Re: Random: "Personally, I Prefer The Movie Version" - Star Fox Designer Weighs In On New Look

hol_up

I refuse to accept that the majority voted for the Starfox 2026 designs. There’s good design, and then there’s this. The new designs got rid of Fox and Falco’s sleek jawline (furline?), for one.

I read a comment that compared these designs to DK’s new design. They’re not even in the same ballpark. DK became more cartoony and lively. Fox and his friends became more realistic and static. Starfox isn’t known for its facial expressions, but I didnt see anything noteworthy here. With these designs you can’t even make them too expressive or else it will look super uncanny.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Prefer Big Directs Or A Steady Flow Of News From Nintendo Today?

hol_up

Directs are better, anyone who says otherwise is being a devil’s advocate for fun.

I think we’ve been getting spoiled in the past with multiple big directs per year. Nintendo was able to do it though because they were producing Switch games left and right (yes, a lot were Wii U games at first) and so were 3rd parties. Smash Ultimate also hella carried a bunch of directs, because a lot of people would tune in just to see a new character reveal, and Nintendo would also either start or end the direct with a smash reveal. It always brought the hype and we’ve been missing that kind of hype for a while now.

Switch 2 game production seems slower in comparison. Nintendo is probably keeping their games close to their chest, which makes it seem like there are only a few games in the pipeline. We’re also well past the covid spike which delayed studio game development across the board, so there’s no excuse as to why games are taking so long now. It’s like Nintendo didn’t plan to make new entries for their flagship titles ahead of time. It’s almost been 10 years since the last 3D Mario. What was that team doing the entire time after they finished? Were they afk for several years and were then thrown DK Bananza over the last few years? Same with Animal Crossing. NH goes silent for six years and then out of the blue “teehee here’s a sizable update, enjoy” as if they haven’t been working on the next AC after all this time. I don’t know what the hell Nintendo is doing.

Oops, went on a little tangent. Anyway, before directs, Nintendo’s biggest presentation of the year was always in June for E3. Even after stepping away from E3, they still held their biggest presentation of the year in June. So chillax fellas, you’ll get your big presentation next month. They better reveal OoT if they want more people to get serious about Switch 2, because it still doesn’t have that must-have game.
