Re: It Sounds Like Peach's Mario Galaxy Movie Backstory Will Be Canon In Future Games

hol_up

Miyamoto contradicting himself. He got upset at Mario Galaxy having an interpretative story and gutted it in 2, and now says that being constrained by the stories in the games prevented them from making movies? What. The Galaxy movie didn’t even have a story, it was “Gimmie my papa back, I want him to see my giant canon powered by space girl”.
It’s like the Sonic series, everything is canon, even all those comic-only characters, but it would be so jarring to see them in a game where they all act like they know each other even though they never met in the game-medium before. Keep that stuff separate, or introduce them properly into the games.

TLDR; You missed your chance to make them sisters over TWO Galaxy games (including a recent re-release!!) Miyamoto. It’s too late.

Re: Splatoon Raiders Is Alive, And It's Out This Summer On Switch 2

This looks average. Nothing really stands out.
Sometimes I feel like I’ve outgrown Splatoon, but in reality they haven’t been able to make a game as good as the first one, and so many people never got the chance to play it with how sparse Wii U sales were. It really was a gem of a game that I wish they ported over to Switch instead of making the second one so early.

Re: Looks Like 'Elden Ring' Will Be A Pricey Game-Key Card Release On Switch 2

The og game released at $60 and the DLC released for $40. So you’re getting a $100 value for $80. Give it some months and it’ll go on sale, though not for much. I never played the DLC, but I heard it was great. The base game kept me going for 300 hours.

Anyone upset at this being a GKC is acting like this isn’t a huge open world game with a giant DLC baked into it. Buy it or don’t, but expecting it to fit into an actual cartridge was a pipe dream.

Re: PSA: You Can Now Download Pokémon Champions On Switch

I wonder how VGC will handle balancing Pokemon. To my knowledge, Pokemon stats rarely change between games right? But if it’s clear certain monsters or strategies are broken, will they adjust them for Champions? But if they do, that would mean having to change them in the main games too. Hmmmm.

Re: "I Didn't Want To Let Anyone Down" - Mario Galaxy Movie Composer Wrote Much Of The Score In Hospital

Soundtrack was great, but I’m sad that there was no rendition of Space Junk Road, even though it was mentioned in the movie. That is the most iconic Galaxy song for me, as it beautifully captures the game’s essence. But with how fast paced the movie was, the song doesn’t really fit anywhere. It would have played perfectly in a heart to heart scene, or when they first reach space and take it all in.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

@KevinP Yeah like the whole movie Luigi is teasing Mario about asking out Peach and then later they have a convo where Mario goes “would she be with a plumber?” then there’s the reunion where Peach wanted to hug and Mario wanted to handshake, which showed that Mario has a chance. THEN there was the scene where Peach starts malding and Mario does it with her. Then Peach gives Mario a kiss for rebuilding the castle, only for it to end there, and not with Mario asking her out :/ they built it up throughout the movie only for it to be completely ignored by the end.

You can tell they’re saving it for Movie 3 so that they can do a double date with Luigi and Daisy, but come on man…

5/10

Had too much repetitiveness. So many chase scenes, so many fight scenes, so many scenes where you think the danger is over but it’s not, and so many exposition shots where every time there’s a new location they spend 30 seconds showing you it because they want you to see all the references. I swear to god that casino one lasted a minute. It got old fast, and I now understand the reviewers who were saying it felt like so corporate.

Also, that 8 bit Mario Maker scene with Mario and Peach? It was funny the first time, but then it just got lazy. I felt slightly embarrassed for Nintendo when they straight up played the stage clear theme song, they should have made it more low-key and had it remade because it felt really out of place. Speaking of the music, the soundtrack was great.

Still enjoyed it, but not sure if I would watch again any time soon. I am once again reminded that Illumination was not the studio Nintendo should have partnered with, and to keep Miyamoto as far away from the movies as possible.

Not really looking forward to a 3rd movie at this point. I’m going to hold out hope for Zelda.

Last edit: ALSO, seriously Nintendo? You bring out Game and Watch and you don’t make him pull a 9 on Bowser? Wtf was the point of bringing him out if not for that? For all the references that you pulled together for the movie, you did G&W a huge disservice.

Re: So, Will you Be Watching The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

hol_up

Yes, I will be watching it on release day with friends. The theater will be packed, so I’m excited to take in everyone’s energy.
I’ve already read some previews, and the gist seems to be that it’s basically the first movie but more interesting. I recently rewatched the first movie, and it basically felt like I was watching an ad for Super Nintendo World.

All I want is a good time. The characters don’t need to have deep writing or complex twists, I just want to smile from start to finish.

I appreciate Liam not mentioning [REDACTED] as part of the cast, even if it’s already out of the bag.

Re: Pokémon Champions First Details About Price Reportedly Surface

hol_up

I am so confused, is this game free to play or free to start? Are you telling me that after getting past a certain point, you’re forced to pay a certain price? Because that’s what free to start is. But if I can play through the game with no barriers and it has optional in-game purchases, that’s free to play. So which is it?

Re: Pokémon VGC Competitions Officially Transition To Pokémon Champions

hol_up

Not at all a fan of a game that gives an enormous advantage and head start to those who have access to other Pokemon games and the Home app to transfer their battle-ready mons into Champions, while others will have to grind from the bottom.

At first I thought it was cool that they give you one free Pokemon a day, since there are over 1000 mons, it would still take years to get them all, but they went and said “7 day trial, and you can’t change any of their moves or stats” lmao be for real. If Unite and TCG are examples to go by, then you already know the grind for VP will be slow and tedious.
