I always turn off rumble in every game that I can. It doesn't add anything to the experience for me. So all I see with the Switch right now is Nintendo asking me to buy a console that's also portable, which I have no use for, pay for games I already bought on a previous that they couldn't be bothered to support, and buy expensive controllers with tech I don't care about inside of it.
But for the friends of mine that have yet to purchase a home console this generation, I think the Switch is a good choice to play some good games. It's already building up a library of great games, and it's not even out.
If you like Fire Emblem, I don't recommend playing this, as it will make it very hard to go back to playing Fire Emblem. The strategic possibilities are virtually endless, and character progression can go in any direction you want.
@Browny The Legend of Zelda series itself is not Anouma's creation. If the series lives on, I'm sure there will be others that direct future games as well. For Breath of the Wild, Anouma didn't push for a gender option. That's fine. I'd like to see it in future games, but even if we don't, that's fine too. That's hardly demanding I think.
@LordGeovanni But what about the fact that Link has not been portrayed as blonde 100% of the time he's appeared in games? He also hasn't been left handed in every appearance. The change to being right handed in the Wii games was the result of further linking the character to the actual controls provided by the player. Guess what that means? He's an avatar of the player.
Your references to other characters that have established stories and timelines in other series is irrelevant. Master chief is always the same character in the same universe, which has a chronological tale of events. Link is a different person in nearly every game, in a series that has little to stitch the entries together. A more logical comparison would be asking for a playable female Spartan, which doesn't sound outside the realm of possibility at all to me.
@LordGeovanni Except that almost every game uses a different character as Link, who often looks radically different. And no, Link's gender is not relevant to the story at all. There's no moments in any of the games that mention how necessary it was for Link to be male. There's barely even a canon timeline of events that happen in the series.
Nothing wrong with a character getting upset and crying. There's also nothing wrong with having a gender option for Link, as Link's gender has never been integral to the story or gameplay in the past, and I'd be surprised if it suddenly comes up now. It should would add to the immersion of the game though. I'm also not sure what Anouma is on about with his backtracking about himself starting the rumor of Link being female to begin with.
Charging for online is a scam, and I don't support it. At least with PlayStation plus though your membership allows you to download several games to add to your library every month, and can be used as long as you are still subscribed. That's in addition to better prices on the PlayStation store.
Nintendo doing thinking they can get away with doing the same thing but offering less is hilarious. I'm willing to bet games like Splatoon 2 struggle to maintain a community of any great size. It'll probably sustain a small community of dedicated players.
@Syrek24 If life is too short to complain about things, why do I see you in almost every article complaining about people complaining? At least complainers are here posting relevant comments. Much better than attempting to stroke your ego from your high horse.
@AlphaJaguar I'm sure Nintendo payed them to help develop those games. If they really had a good relationship with Nintendo, they definitely didn't show it by porting none of their big games the past few years to the Wii U. So honestly, this is surprising.
@ultraraichu Why would you use Scrappy Pangoro, using its only ability slot, just so that you can hit ghosts with fighting and normal types moves, rather than having a different ability and teaching Pangoro a dark type move, which you would still get STAB from, and it would hit harder because it's super effective?
I plan on keeping my Wii U near the main TV so that it can be easily plugged up whenever the new Shovel Knight content comes out or I have people over that want to play Smash or MK8. Aside from that, I'm sure I'll replay the games I loved such as Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, and others if there's ever a dry period for me in new game releases. With the PS4's 2017 lineup so far though, that doesn't look to be any time soon.
Wow, the lack of reading compression from commenters who somehow don't understand the information presented in the article or the source of Yacht Club's announcement genuinely surprised me.
As for me, I think the price increase is completely justified. YCG has done an amazing job with Shovel Knight, and they are actually delivering on the stretch goals, despite the fact that they really did not raise enough money for such a project just from Kickstarter backers, where they grossly underestimated the cost of development. I'm glad that co-op is coming to other platforms. It was beyond stupid to lock that behind amiibo. The exclusive customization options and new weapons should've been enough. My only complaint is that it took a year to happen, or that it happened in the first place. Looking forward to all the future content though.
@PlywoodStick Well I dunno about 20 years ago, but they have been pretty bunk on the topic of Wii U in the past year. No reason for me to expect this is any different. Fans on the internet have already been predicting a $250 for a long time. So even if it is true, it's no like it would add to their credibility.
Since when is Nikkei a reliable source? Especially when they were claiming there was a shortage of Wii U consoles earlier in the year. Many people have speculated a $250 price tag, so some crackpot at Nikkei doesn't make it any more credible.
I've no problem with posting about rumors, but they should at least be from someone that matters.
I'm not hyped at all, as I have no plans to get one any time soon regardless of how things turn out. But I am looking forward to finally getting some more information next week. I'm interested in how much detail we will be shown, what kind of games are in development, and how Nintendo plans to revitalize their brand with the Switch.
Not my favorite Pokemon spin off from the N64 era, but it's fun for what it is. A sequel, even a small budget one, should have been obvious on Wii U to actually make use of the game pad and the camera in it. But no dice, I guess.
That has been an option for years already, but I guess it's good to report on since it may not be widely known. The timing of this article however is not great... It would have been much better to point this out prior to the holidays to inform potential buyers.
The few times I have recommended buying a Wii U to people in the past, this is the option I have recommended going with.
@MitchVogel I think the response someone involved in development (I don't remember who, could have even been Masuda) gave a long time ago was essentially that they want each game in the series to feel unique. So, rather than continuously building on the series based on what is liked and disliked, a lot of stuff gets scrapped regardless.
Admittedly though, some things get added or removed in the wake of major fan outcry. I'd be willing to bet trainer customization came back in Sun and Moon because they saw the outcry over its exclusion in ORAS, which they even responded to.
I don't have high hopes for any better turnout. I certainly don't plan on bothering. Shame Game Freak felt the need to take out features that were well liked before in exchange for a bunch of half baked gimmicks.
RUNBOW was the source of much fun for several weekends. Getting a room full of people excited about playing was awesome. I really haven't touched it since then, but even still, $15 for several hours of fun with friends is a pretty good deal compared to many other alternatives.
I remember Satura being playable but oddly animated as having her eyes constantly closed. Not sure if that was ever fixed.
@AlexSora89 Yeah citing lack of changes is a poor argument against MK7. Intetesting that you had a crash so early playing Skyrim. The opening sequence is all scripted, so crashing at that point in the game Id think is the least likely of all. Your experience is unfortunate, but highly irregular. The same can be said for those that encounter bugs in Nintendo games too. Certain moves were banned online in Pokemon Sun and Moon due to crashing reports.
@AlexSora89 It's all a matter of perspective. Skyrim may give you odd bugs every now and then (which 99% of are harmless and don't affect gameplay), but it is an incredibly fun RPG. I would much rather play a fun game over something that is more technically proficient but lacks substance.
And as for reviewers being biased against Nintendo, Mario Kart 7 is indeed a poor Mario Kart game in every possible way. Lack of versus mode (essential), small and weak character roster, and online woes due to glitches and exploits in the track design.
Shovel Knight is the 2D best platformer I've played this generation. Gameplay, story, music, and art are all top notch, and the cost of entry is very low. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse was also great, but I think you'd have to convince yourself of whether or not it actually fits in the platformer genre.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy When/if development moves from Wii U to the Switch, I doubt Igarashi would give a BS reason like "technical issues" considering he has already been upfront about having the backers decide what happens to the game. In fact, it's this kind of approach that the team behind Yooka Laylee should have taken.
Glad that everyone seems to be taking this news well, but I have to wonder where all the people that would cry foul when other games did this in the past are?
Remember when these guys claimed they were personally handling the Wii U version? Do we have any proof such a version even exists? This is a decision that wasn't made yesterday, and I guarantee you that ever since there were rumors of Nintendo's next console, there was no work being done on a Wii U version.
It should be important, because it should be easy to do and would be an easy source of income for Nintendo. But it's not as if the success of the console is riding on it. People don't buy new consoles to play old games, and I'm quite positive that most console owners don't even purchase games from the virtual console (or their equivalent on other systems).
I love platformers but ended up never getting Yoshi Wooly World after watching a friend play it. The art was cute, but everything else about it looked mediocre. The lack of difficulty wouldn't be an issue of the gameplay wasn't so passive, and I hated the completely abitrary invisible switches for collectables.
I loved 3D World though, and appreciated how it was just 3D platforming, not collecting junk in a 3D environment like some other allegedly 3D platforming games.
@CharlieSmile While I am much of the same opinion (other than not picking up the game entirely due to lack of gender options), and while I also think you stating your opinion is fine, you really don't need to respond to every single person that questions your beliefs, especially if you are just going to post junk one liners like "meh". There's just no point to that at all. Pretty sure you've had the mods here back you up before when other users where genuinely flaming you for your posts, but I'm also pretty sure you were asked to refrain from egging these people on in the first place.
I wonder if reviews of the inevitably inferior 3rd party Nintendo Switch ports will be reviewed this generously. 9/10 Seems very high for a game that is over a year old and trimmed down, but I haven't played it specifically on 3DS so what do I know?
Not a very good comparison video on the basis that most complaints have been about totem Pokemon or Pokemon that call for help in battle, as well as the fact that the shots leave out a good bit of what is actually moving on screen.
Shame there weren't more third party games listed. Don't both CoD games, Black Ops II and Ghosts have local multiplayer without splitting the screen because of the gamepad? Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag is a great game too. Then there's the oft forgotten Sonic and Sega Allstars Racing Transformed.
You'd be hard pressed to tell me any of these games are worse than a lot of what's up there. Looking real hard at Star Fox Zero especially.
Although I selected the option for retail Wii U games being my favorite thing about the system, I haven't bought a retail Wii U game in 2 years. Says a lot about the system...
The Wii U will not be remembered fondly. If the Switch performs well, the Wii U will just be seen as the half baked console that should have been the Switch.
The Wii U deserved better from Nintendo. From a consumer standpoint, it was a lackluster product built off of bad ideas and shortcomings that were never addressed.
I fully believe that Nintendo could have turned the Wii U into a much more positive situation. Ditching the gamepad after the 1st year and selling it for closer to $200, offering an ambassador program to pre-existing owners to put them in good standing with customers again, and securing reasonable third party support by helping cover the cost of ports would have made the first few years of the Wii U's life much better. Maybe then we would see it getting replaced this year or next year with a better send off, and more owners feeling like it was a good console.
Seems like a small number of version of exclusives. Maybe that will be the next ridiculous feature removed from the series if fans complain enough. I'm getting moon, because I always pick based solely on the cover Pokemon, but I'll admit I prefer pretty much all of the Sun exclusive Pokemon.
Gonna have to trade for a Vulpix and a Passimian ASAP.
Why deny it in the first place? Maybe they wanted to save that announcement for later, I don't know... But doubling back in something so minor only furthers the idea that Nintendo's word doesn't mean anything, if it's gotten to the point that everything is a lie.
I seriously doubt the Wii U will be rendered fondly years from now, especially if the Switch does much better. In which case, people will just see the Switch as what the Wii U should have been.
@3MonthBeef Hard to tell too much about the hardware when we don't know if the footage they doctored into the reveal would even run on it. I'm sure they have actual games they could have recorded footage of running on it. The system is supposed to launch in less than 5 months. If there are no games, there is no system coming worth getting.
As for the analogies, they're not working. Car commercials are not doctored footage. They have stunt drivers, and those stunts can be replicated.
@3MonthBeef I'm guessing you think I should just happily accept that Nintendo's first reveal of a game system didn't actually show what kind of games the system can or will play? I should be happy to see games that may or may not even be running on the system?
As an aside, I'm also assuming you are unaware of how certain old ladies reasonably expect coffee to be hot, but not so hot that it melts your genatalia through your clothes. Those millions of dollars she earned were also spent on her, and other burn victims, medical treatment.
@3MonthBeef Saying the game footage is not final is not the same thing as the footage not being real, or the machine not actually running that footage. That is lying.
Where was the disclaimer saying not actual footage? I certainly didn't see it. They got caught lying and deserve all of the backlash, probably more even.
Why so dramatic? It's not as if second screen on DS, 3DS, and even Wii U was used for much more than relocating the UI or other menu screens. In the case of the DS line, this allowed other genres of games to have an easier time with with designing the UI so that it wouldn't look like crap and clutter up a small 240p screen, because they could fill an entirely separate screen. That is a problem that doesn't really exist on a larger screen with much higher resolution.
Good. Hardly anything good came from having a second screen with the Wii U. Was never a big fan of having inventory on the second screen for games like Wind Waker and Shovel Knight. I'd much rather pause the gameplay, knowing I'm safe, and have time to pick my items. Radial pop up menus have also been a thing in games for a long time, for games that don't want to completely stop the action while you get your gear.
Where's the division? All I see is the normal interest among the masses that results from new Nintendo tech. The Nintendo brand is old and has had a good reputation and nostalgic impression for the masses. Of course people will be interested, and rightly so. But I can't get too excited until I see actual ganes confirmed, and pricing.
The idea seems really good. But I'm not buying one any time soon because of Nintendo dropping the Wii U after barely even supporting it to begin with.
Time will tell, but I'm not banking on those 3rd party developers suddenly having success with porting old games to the Switch when it didn't work on the Wii U in the first place. It'll also be intetesting how many people are willing to buy another video game console when PS4 and Xbox One are going strong, especially at an odd time of year like March.
@shaneoh Even if it is very weak to fire, that's its only weakness, and when you only have one weakness, it's not that hard to get around, and even exploit for your own benefit. It's always been popular because of its design, and usefulness in battles.

Maybe then we would see it getting replaced this year or next year with a better send off, and more owners feeling like it was a good console.
Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon Version Exclusives Leaked Online
Seems like a small number of version of exclusives. Maybe that will be the next ridiculous feature removed from the series if fans complain enough. I'm getting moon, because I always pick based solely on the cover Pokemon, but I'll admit I prefer pretty much all of the Sun exclusive Pokemon.
Gonna have to trade for a Vulpix and a Passimian ASAP.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wii U Production Is Coming To A Close
Why deny it in the first place? Maybe they wanted to save that announcement for later, I don't know... But doubling back in something so minor only furthers the idea that Nintendo's word doesn't mean anything, if it's gotten to the point that everything is a lie.
Re: Looks Like Nintendo Has A Sense Of Humour About The Wii U's Failure
I seriously doubt the Wii U will be rendered fondly years from now, especially if the Switch does much better. In which case, people will just see the Switch as what the Wii U should have been.
Re: Fans "Shouldn't Assume" That The Nintendo Switch Reveal Trailer Features "Actual Game Footage"
Re: Fans "Shouldn't Assume" That The Nintendo Switch Reveal Trailer Features "Actual Game Footage"
Re: Fans "Shouldn't Assume" That The Nintendo Switch Reveal Trailer Features "Actual Game Footage"
@3MonthBeef Saying the game footage is not final is not the same thing as the footage not being real, or the machine not actually running that footage. That is lying.
Re: Fans "Shouldn't Assume" That The Nintendo Switch Reveal Trailer Features "Actual Game Footage"
Where was the disclaimer saying not actual footage? I certainly didn't see it. They got caught lying and deserve all of the backlash, probably more even.
Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Delivers Single Screen Gaming - Will You Miss the Dual Screen Concept?
Why so dramatic? It's not as if second screen on DS, 3DS, and even Wii U was used for much more than relocating the UI or other menu screens. In the case of the DS line, this allowed other genres of games to have an easier time with with designing the UI so that it wouldn't look like crap and clutter up a small 240p screen, because they could fill an entirely separate screen. That is a problem that doesn't really exist on a larger screen with much higher resolution.
Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be a Single-Screen Experience
Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch May Divide Opinion, But It's Made a Splash
Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Nintendo Switch?
@Amrulez And 5 months later on Switch. Looked like NBA 2K17 was shown too, and that game came out a month ago.
Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Nintendo Switch?
The idea seems really good. But I'm not buying one any time soon because of Nintendo dropping the Wii U after barely even supporting it to begin with.
Time will tell, but I'm not banking on those 3rd party developers suddenly having success with porting old games to the Switch when it didn't work on the Wii U in the first place. It'll also be intetesting how many people are willing to buy another video game console when PS4 and Xbox One are going strong, especially at an odd time of year like March.
Re: Scizor Arrives in the Pokkén Tournament Arcade Very Soon
@shaneoh Even if it is very weak to fire, that's its only weakness, and when you only have one weakness, it's not that hard to get around, and even exploit for your own benefit. It's always been popular because of its design, and usefulness in battles.
