Sun and Moon removed the PSS. Removed super training. Removed horde battles.
On top of the removal of good features, they were replaced with horrible ones. SOS battles are terrible by themselves, but locking certain species encounters to SOS battles is something unforgiveable. The Pokemon distribution is terrible, with Gumshoos, Raticate and Trumbeak even on the last island... Sun and Moon reintroduced the gen 5 exp system, which essentially just makes it hard to get exp. The level up move lists for Pokemon were also poorly done. Kadabra not learning confusion when it evolves from Abra at level 16, Alolan Marowak not able to learn its new signature move Shadow Bone naturally, and more. New Pokemon that require leveling up at a certain location are also a thing (who liked this mechanic, ever?). Having the route 1 bug not be able to fully evolve until the end of the game is dumb. Trials are just gyms that aren't called gyms in game, but have worse challenges. The Elite 4 is mostly trainers you have already fought and beaten before. The list goes on and on.
Maybe this some cultural difference, but this sounds idiotic to even suggest to me.
Talking about Xenoblade Chronicles, literally the series in which a Nintendo employee told fans to stop begging for Japanese games to get localized because the original Xenoblade Chronicles localization supposedly wasn't profitable... And that a game exceeds expectations they suggest taking the series in a different direction?
Planning on beating the main story of Dragon Quest 11 and then taking a break to play some other games. Might go back into Shadow of the Tomb Raider (it's been good so far) but I've really been on a Smash for Wii U kick lately so that will probably happen.
Been thinking about replaying Plague of Shadows in Shovel Knight. Might go for that this weekend at some point.
I find it hard to rank most of the Pokemon games against each other just because of how much the games change from remakes, re-releases and features that are added/removed (maybe this is Game Freaks plan all along).
But I can definitely say that Heartgold and Soul Silver are the best. Great sprites, music, Pokemon selection, and chock full of content. It also goes to show what happens when a game is made by people who are passionate and care about more than just maximizing profit. The director in an interview spoke about how they wanted it to essentially be the best game, and wanted to cram it full of amazing things.
In terms of worst Pokemon games, original Black and White, and Sun and Moon are about as bottom of the barrel you can get. These games suffered from bad mechanics within their own games, overly linear design compared to the rest of the series, and perhaps the biggest examples of games that lacked beloved features their immediate predecessor had.
@Cobalt Oh, so I'm not going crazy, there are others that notice it too?
In all seriousness, there's nothing wrong with waiting for a game to hopefully come to your system of choice, especially when it's a third party game that has no reason for being exclusive. But I'll admit, when I see certain users post a long list of old games they're excited to play on Switch, I can't help but roll my eyes. Especially when these same users claim to own all available game systems. Something about that just doesn't add up.
The Playstation Classic is definitely Sony copying Nintendo's approach to cash in on notstalgia and the lack of these retro games being readily available on the current generation game console.
This article is though, is a joke gone wrong at best. I'm more inclined to believe that it's intended effect was to get folks riled up.
Skepticism is healthy, but I'm willing to bet it really is just a case of publishers not wanting to use money on anything other than what they feel is a guaranteed gold mine. I think PS Plus helped them some, but it was also up to FuturLab to promote their game as an IP, which they may have neglected.
If you had a choice between the Zelda series as it currently stands, and the exact same thing but with developed lore, why would you choose not to have lore?
The real reason the Zelda series doesn't have chronological lore is simply because it takes time to come up with how things fit together. Nintendo would rather not spend the time and money, and obviously a lot of fans couldn't care less.
Didn't see the content in question, but my thoughts;
Sexiness shouldn't be considered bad, but Senran Kagura frequently takes what could easily be fun/sexy situations and turns them into a more exploitative nature, which I do have a problem with.
The content may or may not have violated Youtube's rules, but as is always the case with this type of stuff, it looks bad to crack down on some morally questionable content but not others.
I'm sure the Nintendo audience helped, but there was also widespread information about bugs in the PS4 version (well, more bugs than the Switch). The most serious bugs were not fixed on PS4 until the release of Mania Plus just recently, which is quite a terrible way to treat your customers.
Any discontent is probably just from wanting a steadier stream of the type of content most Nintendo console owners care most about; high quality 1st party content. The Switch's game library is definitely growing, but for some it's by being bloated with games they don't care about, which are often ports of old games, enhanced or not.
Definitely remember Mitsuhiro Arita, and I feel his illustrations have always been the best. Kagemaru Himeno and Midori Harada also had really good art. These artists were really the trifecta of my pokemon card collection.
Ken Sugimori cards were always boring to me. Just the official art pasted onto an abstract background. But, at least it wasn't claymation art...
I don't see how Nintendo thought they could reach non-gamers with Labo when the price of admission is so high. It's way beyond the casual interest impulse buy for most people. I would be surprised to learn of anybody that bought a Switch for Labo.
I'm sure I average at least 10 hours a week, but rarely 20 unless there's a special occasion. I do think that video games can be an addiction like any rewarding experience can be. I'm sure my love of video games has negatively impacted some parts of my life, but it has also positively impacted a lot, if for no other reason than doing anything always takes time away from other things.
Could I give up video games, completely? I honestly don't know. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that's able to give up something they are passionate about.
@scubydo That should be a perfectly good way to start. This seems to be a remake of 1 using Disgaea 5 engine with it's quality improvements to the series thus far.
Plus, in terms of story, Disgaea 5 is a prequel to the rest of the series.
@tekknik Despite the fingerpointing and vilification of Sony on this, none of the big 3 really want that. As direct competitors, none of them want your friends to be able to purchase a competing system rather than their own and be able to easily play online games with you.
And of the big 3, Microsoft probably wants it the least. With the smallest and least diverse catalog of exclusive content, they know who would be the odd man out in terms of losing sales to competitors since consumers wouldn't need to buy an Xbox to play with friends.
Cross platform play in its current state is a gimmick being used to paint Sony as the bad guy. In the case of Fortnite, with 2 million downloads already, does anyone really think they need to add randoms from other ecosystems to ensure they have an ample playerbase on Switch?
We went through this during last year's E3, right? It's crazy how so many have successfully been convinced that cross platform play is a wanted feature that supposedly is better for consumers.
It's not.
Want to play with friends? Play on the same ecosystem. Regardless of cross platform play, that's the requirement. You can't hop on with your Nintendo Network ID and create a lobby in a multiplayer game and invite your friend on Xbox Live or PSN. It just doesn't work that way.
So what people are really complaining about here is not being able to play with randoms on other platforms.
Smash Ultimate being a derivative sequel/montage of old content is fine, but the long, drawn out presentation of it shows that they felt the need to justify it.
Honestly, maybe they do. This is the kind of Smash Game I'd expect if it was 2016. 4 years after Smash 4 and the best we can get is 2 new characters, a clone character, and a mashup of old content returning, most of which (like characters) should never have been cut to begin with.
It's clickbait. Could've easily been titled "Create the most efficient build in Mario Kart 8", which would have perfectly captured the point of the statistical analysis, because most efficient does not automatically mean the best when not all stats are equally important.
And unless I'm mistaken, but it looks like this analysis doesn't include anything from outside the base Wii U game, meaning there could potentially be better combinations. Aside from the fact that this is also even more useless in the Wii U version as the acceleration stat functions differently than in the Switch version.
The correct response from retailers should probably be to not order from them. The re-release or updated edition or whatever next year seems like a safe game to bet against. Who really wants last year's game but "now it's ok, I promise"?
I think it'll be interesting to see how the games impact the Switch. As much as I liked the original Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, I don't think it really drove DS sales. Pokemon Rumble U definitely didn't do anything for the Wii U.
Aside from that though, I'm not interested in any. Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee have the best shot at success simply for cashing in on nostalgia (first time HD Kanto) and trying to reviatlize interest in Pokemon Go, despite there only being the original 151 monsters (and the first look at generation 8, probably). I think that's incredibly lame, but whatever pays Nintendo's bills... I just really hope that if Let's Go is so focused on casuals that generation 8 will bring back features for hardcore fans like gym rematches and battle frontier.
Does being cheaper than the competition really matter when it offers an inferior service and unlocks an inferior online experience? While $20 may not be much money, I'd much rather use that $20 on something actually good, like maybe a good downloadable game.
Lots of complaining from people who had no intention of ever buying the game in the first place once again. This is still an expanded re-release of a 2016 3DS game. If you were somehow excited about that back in 2017, why wouldn't you still be now?
Meanwhile World has already done far better than what many on this site predicted, so I guess the proof in the pudding.
@kobashi100 Sorry, "performance" was not the correct word I should have used. What I meant is that other versions of the game have better resolution at the same frame rate, especially compared to the sub HD resolution undocked, in addition to potentially offering better online stability (at least based on this review).
I quite like the Storm games, they've definitely benefited from years of improvement with subsequent sequels though. With that fact, and how late these games are coming to Switch, and at the performance cost, I can only imagine that someone would have to really value portability to make the purchase worthwhile. These are on sale all the time on PS4, including the newer and better 4.
Storm Revolution remains my favorite though. The most balanced mechanics and customizing character outfits with stupid accessories was fun. Ninja World Tournament was also fun for less competitive play. It's a shame it didn't make it to Storm 4 to make use of newer hardware to provide multiplayer in that mode.
@ALazyUsername128 I'm of the opinion that having them in the game at all only negatively impacts the experience. Why bother having natures and IVs at all if 99% of the time it's not what you would want? Creating a way to change these stats isn't the solution to the problem, but rather just another time sink that makes it harder to make competitive teams.
A good story would be welcome for the series, but I'd much rather have a minimalist story than one that is poorly made like in the Black/White and Sun/Moon series.
I also think that the game mechanics could use a good bit of simplification. For starters, trimming things like IVs and "natures" out of the game completely would remove a lot of frustration from building teams as well as make the barrier of entry for competitive playing significantly lower, while not negatively impacting the customization possible of Pokemon.
Amiibo aren't toys-to-life products. They dropped the ball on functionality as soon as they realized people would buy them anyways. In that sense, they weren't even competing in that market. They're basically just toys.
I'd legitimately like to know how much articles like this financially benefit @Nintendolife. I mean, they got me to click if only to voice how disgusting I think this level of journalism is. Speculation at best and blatant lies at worst being spouted as fact.
@Aurumonado At least it was a good fight? I don't watch the anime, but the impression I got from others is that XY anime was good (relative?) and Ash at least went down fighting in the league. I DO remember watching him lose in Sinnoh though and it really made me wonder how anyone could watch it. Just a completely demoralizing loss against someone with a Darkrai that swept most of Ash's team... And then Latios after that...
That's not a "Losing is ok" lesson for kids, it just teaches them that curb stomping people with uber legendaries is pretty easy.
I just want to continue making good progress in terms in character balance. Smash 4 was another step in the right direction with decent balance at the start and subsequent patches. Still, I feel the game could have easily been improved with some characters having literally useless attacks that have more recovery frames than hitstun, meaning successfully landing that attack on an opponent puts you in a vulnerable state, which is really bad.
@mateq I'm pretty sure Nintendo just didn't care about Wii U owners because they weren't making money off of us. That's what I'd call poor customer service.
Great for him. My only experience with Nintendo customer service was crap. I was told it'd be over $100 to repair my Wii U gamepad after the wireless range suddenly died. I had owned the console for 3 years, so of course my warranty was out, which apparently meant that despite being a lifelong Nintendo buyer, I was also out of luck. Guy on the phone even admitted it was a known defect.
@AlexSora89 Sorry you had people respond to you poorly over at pushsquare (yeah, I read them and the first two replies were pretty uncalled for). But are you really gonna chalk that up to "market leading mentality"? The same kinds of comments are made here just as often.
The art is amazing, but I'd be curious how the buttons actually feel. And despite how good the Breath of the Wild one looks, the lack of gyro functionality would probably make it poorly suited for actually playing that game.
Now HD rumble and NFC reader functionality being taken out to cut costs likely won't bother anyone.
Still the best Shantae game. Got it on Wii U in 2014 day one, and it was worth every penny. Agree with this review and wholeheartedly recommend to any Metroidvania fans.
This looks horribly ugly... really hope they decide to work on this more. The base game is high quality and releasing something like this will stick out in a bad way.
Looks like a Kirby game with none of the magic, possibly rushed out and hyped because it's first party and another exclusive for the Switch. The way they handled combining abilities speaks volumes. Come up with creative and surprising combinations? Nah, just add elemental properties to everything. It doesn't feel like this was made by people who really cared, and fan service character additions later on isn't going to change that.
Do video games have the ability to cause violent behavior? Before even coming up with a hypothesis for such a question you'd have to, at the very least, admit that each individual person is a unique case, and then you'd have to know, like definitively know, how easily that person is molded by media.
That brings up whole other questions about nature vs nurture, of which there is no definite answer.
So to me, it seems pointless to debate such topics. What you can do is hold people accountable for their actions, which is what the law in most developed countries already does. In the United States though, getting a firearm isn't too difficult, which is maybe a more reasonable place to start investigating rather than video games and psychology. But unfortunately, and I say this as a US citizen, it seems few people in leadership positions are willing to go that route.
If you're not willing to look at guns as the source of the problem with gun violence, you shouldn't be able to get away with trying to look somewhere else to theorycraft.
I wouldn't say that Nintendo "learned" from the Wii U's failure, but rather that they are capitalizing on it with a better made product. If the Wii U was successful, I doubt Nintendo would be able to so easily sell ports of Wii U games, and if they hadn't stopped supporting the Wii U very early on, games like Odyssey and Breath of the Wild wouldn't have happened in the 1st year.
Nintendo put all their eggs in this basket by taking them out of the Wii U's. I guess their bet paid off, but as a Wii U owner it's tough to feel anything but shafted.
Almost a year? Honestly that sounds totally reasonable if they were making it completely from scratch, but that just begs the question of why they would work like that. You don't have to reinvent everything every time.
I got a lot of Tearaway vibes from this. In that game, you could unlock blueprints of the characters and objects from the world and actually print them out to fold them and build them in real life. And like nobody actually did that...
Now this looks similar except it will cost much, much more, and be a much bigger struggle.
I disagree that the Wii U's failure was necessary in order for Nintendo to achieve success with the Switch, and not really sure how anyone could reason that. Right now, I'm not even sure that Nintendo has really learned anything from their failures.
The Switch being successful is great, and that is easily attributed to Nintendo providing a piece of hardware that actually has quality built into it, and a healthy library of games.
Hopefully this isn't the beginning of the downfall in real life timeline... If more freedom comes at the cost of less structure, what you will eventually get is little more than a tech demo in debug mode.

Re: Guide: The Best Pokémon Games - Every Mainline Pokémon Game Ranked
@Paddle1

This is why I got to Dualshockers a lot more.
Re: Random: As The Pokémon Anime Hits 1000 Episodes, One Thing Is Clear: Ash Sucks At Pokémon
Re: Feature: Here's What Pro Players Want From Super Smash Bros On Switch
I just want to continue making good progress in terms in character balance. Smash 4 was another step in the right direction with decent balance at the start and subsequent patches. Still, I feel the game could have easily been improved with some characters having literally useless attacks that have more recovery frames than hitstun, meaning successfully landing that attack on an opponent puts you in a vulnerable state, which is really bad.
Re: Random: Nintendo Fixed One Man's Out Of Warranty, First-Gen 3DS For Next To Nothing
@mateq I'm pretty sure Nintendo just didn't care about Wii U owners because they weren't making money off of us. That's what I'd call poor customer service.
Re: Random: Nintendo Fixed One Man's Out Of Warranty, First-Gen 3DS For Next To Nothing
Re: Spyro: Reignited Trilogy Is Finally Officially, But Switch Is Left Out In The Cold
@AlexSora89 Sorry you had people respond to you poorly over at pushsquare (yeah, I read them and the first two replies were pretty uncalled for). But are you really gonna chalk that up to "market leading mentality"? The same kinds of comments are made here just as often.
Re: These Officially-Licensed Switch Controllers Look Absolutely Stunning
The art is amazing, but I'd be curious how the buttons actually feel. And despite how good the Breath of the Wild one looks, the lack of gyro functionality would probably make it poorly suited for actually playing that game.
Now HD rumble and NFC reader functionality being taken out to cut costs likely won't bother anyone.
Re: Review: Shantae And The Pirate's Curse (Switch eShop)
Still the best Shantae game. Got it on Wii U in 2014 day one, and it was worth every penny. Agree with this review and wholeheartedly recommend to any Metroidvania fans.
Re: Video: Check Out Blastoise In Action In The Latest Pokkén Tournament DX DLC
This looks horribly ugly... really hope they decide to work on this more. The base game is high quality and releasing something like this will stick out in a bad way.
Re: Review: Kirby Star Allies (Switch)
Looks like a Kirby game with none of the magic, possibly rushed out and hyped because it's first party and another exclusive for the Switch. The way they handled combining abilities speaks volumes. Come up with creative and surprising combinations? Nah, just add elemental properties to everything. It doesn't feel like this was made by people who really cared, and fan service character additions later on isn't going to change that.
Re: The Games Industry Reacts To The White House's Violent Games Showreel
Re: This Faithful Fan-Made Brawler Is Mega Man Meets Smash Bros
Looks cool, and loved the gag voice line from the retro cartoon inserted.
"Now I've got yer power!"
Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Learned A Lot From Wii U’s Struggles During Its Own First Year
I wouldn't say that Nintendo "learned" from the Wii U's failure, but rather that they are capitalizing on it with a better made product.
Re: The Nintendo Switch News Channel Took Almost A Year To Create
Almost a year? Honestly that sounds totally reasonable if they were making it completely from scratch, but that just begs the question of why they would work like that. You don't have to reinvent everything every time.
Re: Sumo Digital Responsible For Porting PAYDAY 2 To Switch
I have no respect for Sumo, and the result of this port looks to only further solidify that.
Re: Nintendo Announces Labo, A Range Of Interactive DIY Toys For Switch
I got a lot of Tearaway vibes from this. In that game, you could unlock blueprints of the characters and objects from the world and actually print them out to fold them and build them in real life. And like nobody actually did that...
Now this looks similar except it will cost much, much more, and be a much bigger struggle.
Re: Soapbox: Switch's Rampant Success Is Proof Positive That You Should Never Write Off Nintendo
Re: Aonuma Wants to Keep Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Freedom in Future Games
Hopefully this isn't the beginning of the downfall in real life timeline... If more freedom comes at the cost of less structure, what you will eventually get is little more than a tech demo in debug mode.
