Re: SuperData Says Nintendo Sold 2.4 Million Switch Consoles Worldwide in March

greengecko007

@JubilifeRival Because insecurity about buying a Switch is already setting in. For these people, anything that isn't completely rejoiceful of Nintendo may as well be a personal attack to them. It's quite disturbing, because it's easy for someone who is not attached to Nintendo like a dog on a leash, that these people are the ones instigating negativity and personal attacks. What's even more disturbing is the poor justification of it...

Re: Poll: Where Do You Currently Stand on ARMS and Splatoon 2?

greengecko007

@ballistic90 You must have quite a limited perspective if you truly believe that. Does my lack of experience with the game negate the fact that there were also things that looked good to me about the game?

You're free to disagree with me of course, it's all a matter of opinion. But to reply solely to dismiss my opinion? Laughably immature.

Re: Video: Get a Good Look at the Awesome Cast of Disgaea 5 Complete

greengecko007

The game is just simply a lot of fun, and an incredibly polished and well made package. There is no SRPG series that's more tactical than Disgaea. They give you so many options and avenues to create powerful strategies and characters that lead into a variety of play styles that nothing else even comes close. It doesn't hold your hand much beyond the first few tutorials, but grinding is also quick and easy if you feel like you have to fall back on that to progress.

Re: Realistic Puddles Are Reason #243 That Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Is Awesome

greengecko007

Nice I suppose, but I often felt that while I was playing, I wished less time and effort went into the physics and weather engine, and more time went into making substantial content. One thing they nailed though is the combat. Simple controls, but fun and very engaging, at least when the frame rate doesn't drop to single digits or halt altogether during more intense fights.

In short, realism isn't necessarily fun, and it's not like the game isn't full of unrealistic elements as well.

Re: Poll: A Month of Nintendo Switch - Do You Think It's Heading for Success?

greengecko007

Ah good, a chance for everyone to give their prediction for the future to come based off a few weeks of the Switch being out.

Personally, I don't think the Switch will do much to help propel Nintendo into a larger part of the industry. I think the current price point will prevent casual sales, but that can be rectified later. Nintendo is supposedly selling Switches for profit though, and that combined with game sales and paid online, I don't see how the Switch could not be successful.

Re: There's a Spring Event Coming to Fire Emblem Heroes

greengecko007

I don't mind sexy, and I don't mind sexy in games, but taking what was originally a mature fantasy strategy RPG and morphing it into more and more of a waifu/husbando dating sim is a slap in the face to many fans, and a company like Nintendo endorsing the sexualization of their characters, even in a spin off mobile game, just cheapens the series as a whole.

It'd be one thing if this was Bayonetta, or Senran Kagura. But this morphing of Fire Emblem is just sad.

Re: Nintendo Switch Hardware Sales Grow in Japan as Monster Hunter Stays at Number One

greengecko007

Awesome to see the Switch maintaining speed so far in Japan, as well as Monster Hunter and Zelda, and Horizon doing good. Nier looks to have seriously slowed down, but those total sales are nice for a console game in Japan.

What's less awesome is seeing such a blatant fanboy remark immediately upon getting into the comment section, and how so many seem to like it. It's a shame that video games make some people so insecure about their preferences that they feel the need to put down other games in order to justify their own opinions more.

Re: Talking Point: Defining a Sequel and How It Affects Games Like Splatoon 2

greengecko007

"Call of Duty was mocked for making so few changes to the core gameplay for a few years"

...By haters. Like or dislike CoD, a new release has always meant a new story campaign, new maps to play on, new game modes, new weapons, new mechanics, etc.

If Splatoon 2 offers a similar improvement, I see no reason it can't be called a sequel. If it's like Mario Kart 8, which has added a handful of new characters and a new game mode to what a package that is otherwise the same exact content in Mario Kart 8, it is a revised port.

Re: The 3DS is Six Years Old in the Americas, How Time Flies

greengecko007

After the large library of games I had for GBA and original DS, the 3DS has been pretty lackluster for me. I have greatly enjoyed Pokémon Y, Alpha Sapphire, A Link Between Worlds, Stella Glow, and Kirby Robobot, but that's really it. All of the other big games just seemed like budget versions of console games.

Re: Editorial: After The Bold Brilliance Of Breath Of The Wild, Where Can Zelda Go Next?

greengecko007

As much as I'm enjoying Breath of the Wild, I hope the next 3D Zelda is more linear and has a set of strong main dungeons.

So far, the huge world map of Breath of the Wild hasn't actually given me the impression that it is truly large, due to how much empty space there is. There are a lot of plains and canyons that seem to lack any meaningful content, and no, a hidden korrok seed every now and then isn't meaningful.

Combat is fun and I like how open ended the gameplay is. I just wish the freedom afforded by the gameplay was met with a more focused story and progression. The sense of discovery is great too in this game, but there are also play sessions where that feeling is too sparse.

Re: Ubisoft Wants Your Input On Future Nintendo Switch Software Support

greengecko007

Hopefully Switch owners will be more receptive to 3rd party games than Wii U owners. I remember every excuse in the book for why to not buy third party games on the Wii U. Complaining it didn't look as good graphically, didn't perform as well, didn't have all the DLC (which is because the game sold poorly in the first), didn't have online at launch (even though it was cheaper than all the other versions). It's like Wii U owners wanted superior versions on inferior hardware.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Upgraded Confidence in Switch is a Relief

greengecko007

@DanteSolablood Yeah, I really don't see it. I mean, sure, the idle animations for that beginning looked pretty bouncy, but nothing that looks bad to me. Looking more at the models themselves, the textures, and especially the effects of the Pokemon attacks, I think it looks quite well. When I think about other gamecube games like MK Double Dash, Kirby Air Ride, Smash Bros. Melee, Wind Waker, etc, I don't see anything that just makes Colosseum look sub par. XD they also improved the graphics across the board, so I'd honestly say it's one of the best looking gamecube games, right up there with Pikmin 2.

That said, you don't need to qualify and sugarcoat your opinion to me. I know what you mean, and there's no way it could be construed as disrespectful in anyway. No offense taken.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U)

greengecko007

"Some will say, not unreasonably, that as the Wii U iteration can't fully match the Switch version in visuals and performance it should be docked a point."

Actually, yes, this is unreasonable, and this is the same cancerous mentality that caused what little good third party support the Wii U had early on to flee. The Wii U version of Breath of the Wild has great parity with the Switch version in terms of visuals and performance. While the portability of the Switch could be a bonus for some, not having to buy another console right now is just as big a bonus for others, and these shouldn't be taken into account much.

Re: "Wouldn't That Be Wonderful?" - Reggie Fils-Aime on Cloud Services for Nintendo Switch

greengecko007

@flapjackashley2 If the Wii U came out late 2012, and good support stopped after late 2014, then that is 2 years of real support.

But I'd say even that is pushing it. What games came out after the Wii U's launch? Pikmin 3 was delayed 9 months, and it, Mario 3D World, and a few more annualized third party games like Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty all came out fall 2013. So if we go from late 2013 to late 2014, and compare it to the rest of the Wii U's life, we see about 1 year worth of consistent support for the system. 1 year... that's horrendous.

Re: Poll: One Week On - How Do You Feel About the Nintendo Switch?

greengecko007

Not the best time for this poll to be honest. 1 week in is not likely to change most people's minds, one way or the other. I remember it being a few months before some of the more Nintendo faithful were willing to admit that Star Fox Zero was a poorly made game. New toy syndrome is definitely a long lasting thing, and we will see how the Switch fairs more clearly after several months.

Re: Review: I Am Setsuna (Switch eShop)

greengecko007

I feel like this game deserves better from JRPG fans. It's not anything groundbreaking, but it isn't trying to be. At a $40 asking price, you have that is better than any JRPG on the 3DS in terms of production value, with its main draw being classic, comfortable, gameplay of the old style games.

Re: Review: Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment (Switch eShop)

greengecko007

I don't understand why this is available on the Switch first, if the game is finished for all platforms. But whatever, Horizon and Zelda will keep me plenty entertained until the Wii U version finally drops. Looking forward to it. I think this update was supposed to have gender swap mode too? So really, I'm going to be gearing up for 2 more playthroughs of Shovel Knight content.

Re: Feature: Some of Our Favourite Legend of Zelda Games

greengecko007

I think for the most part the Zelda series has grown well. I used to enjoy A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time a lot, but I have an incredibly hard time going back to these in any real capacity. They feel like they've aged so poorly to me, and the dungeon designs are obtuse or just outright boring compared to modern feats.

Wind Waker and Skyward Sword (unashamedly love the motion controls) are probably my favorites of the current series.

Re: Talking Point: Lack of Nintendo Switch Details Close to Launch Made Wobbly Cam 'Leaks' Inevitable

greengecko007

The lack of detailed information about the NS is frustrating for hardcore Nintendo fans, especially since Nintendo has a lot to answer for their fumbles with the Wii U. But most casual consumers aren't informed enough to really take on such information and understand it. I thought the leaks recently were interesting, but now that it's coming out that these were stolen devices rather than units that were sold early, it has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Could Revive Local Multiplayer

greengecko007

Sorry, that's a serious stretch. A simple google search for a sale on Amazon or Walmart is an easy and common practice. Buying used officially licensed controllers at GameStop? Happens all the time. You may as well say you don't care how expensive anything is because you could just steal it. Comparing past MSRPs is pointless when talking about whether or not something is expensive in today's market. Seriously reaching...

You seem really hung up on the tech inside these controllers. That may be enough to justify their price to you, but it is a fact that it costs much more to buy another controller for the NS then any other relevant game system. If I want to play MK8 with my friends locally, I don't care that the pro controller has an NFC reader and HD rumble. I care that I'm paying $70 for each pair of hands that I want to be able to play with me at the same time, and wondering what is wrong with the controllers I already own for the Wii and Wii U. That's insanely expensive for me.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Could Revive Local Multiplayer

greengecko007

@ThanosReXXX With over 100 million Wii consoles sold and millions of accessories, people already have Wii remotes and classic controllers and such. Even then, I just checked on Amazon, and found new Wii branded Wii remotes for $20. They're $25 at GameStop, and less than $20 on eBay. I've never seen the ps move controllers packed like that either, and definitely not for $99. So I'm really not sure where your prices are coming from.

But really, the point is simply that if you want any local multiplayer functionality on the NS, you're going to be paying quite a bit. At least $70 for a pro controller. Again, just did a google search, and a PS4 controller will run you $45 from Amazon, Walmart, and Target.

Re: Disgaea 5 Complete Gets A Solid Release Date For Nintendo Switch

greengecko007

@NEStalgia Chapter 2 of Disgaea 4 is very punishing for some reason. They throw a lot of geo effects at you in those fights that make it difficult to do anything other than the intended strategy. 5 is very flexible, and the intended strategies are easier to pick up on. Terrain effects like poisoning your unit if you end its turn in poisonous water, or standing on snow for some maps decreasing ice resistance.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Could Revive Local Multiplayer

greengecko007

Hard to envision the Switch championing local multiplayer when extra controllers are so expensive. With the Wii and Wii U, there was backward compatibility with the controllers, which kept the cost down for local play quite a bit.

You could say that the Switch has 2 joycons right from the start, but a single joycon looks incredibly uncomfortable. Like trying to play Runbow with just a nunchuk. It's functional, but not fun.

Re: Disgaea 5 Complete Gets A Solid Release Date For Nintendo Switch

greengecko007

@NEStalgia I like Disgaea 4 a lot, but I definitely noticed a difficulty spike in the game shortly after the tutorials and chapter 1.

I don't remember there being any difficulty spikes in 5, and due to the nature of 5 relying more on terrain effects rather than geo puzzles, the intended strategy for you to implement for each fight comes across much more clearly. For that reason, I'd say it's the easiest Disgaea ever, not that there isn't a pleasant degree of challenge.

Re: Disgaea 5 Complete Gets A Solid Release Date For Nintendo Switch

greengecko007

@HefHughner As far as a chronological time line goes, Disgaea 5 seems very much like a prequel to the rest of the series. You don't need any knowledge of past stories to understand 5, it's completely self contained. There are just some plot points that indicate the game takes place first in the series, due to the number of wars, etc.

Re: Poll: Does Nintendo Switch Need Streaming Apps and a Web Browser, Or Is It All About Games?

greengecko007

Having media streaming apps even exist is because of the value of convenience. Likewise, the Switch not offering these apps, even though plenty of other devices already do, displays that the Switch isn't convenient when you want to use these apps.

If I want to look up a quick game guide on YouTube, or pause my game and watch Netflix, it's considerably less convenient to have to use another device to do that.

Re: Pokkén Tournament and ARMS in the Running for Evo 2017 Player's Choice Spot

greengecko007

@ASonic3582 Unsurprising, seeing as it's a solid fighting game featuring characters from one of the best selling video game franchises, and was a new game. But I think it's kinda unfair to other really good fighting games to raise up games like Pokken, which wouldn't have proven how good of a fighter it was yet in addition to being considerably harder to set up. But I suppose popularity does have its merits for providing money and bringing in more players.

Re: Pokkén Tournament and ARMS in the Running for Evo 2017 Player's Choice Spot

greengecko007

I'm of a mind that Arms and Pokken shouldn't even be considered, but I'm sure they are simply to pull in money. Arms isn't even out. We don't know if it will be a good game, let alone a good competitive fighting game. Pokken is just too much of nightmare to set up. People don't want to play with the game pad and be forced to look at its smaller, lower quality screen, so two Wii U units are required to play a single 1v1 match.

Re: Switch Will Succeed By Offering Something You Can't Get On PlayStation Or Xbox, Says Randy Pitchford

greengecko007

@gcunit A game like Animal Crossing is best as a mobile game. You need to be able to play the game at any time to find time for certain events or activities, which works the best in a portable setting.

Something like Overwatch is going to be limited to home consoles or PC because of it's always online nature. The possibilities of playing such a game away from home are quite limited.
