I have been preparing to dig into this series. I just started FC and was planning to play all 9, but these comments are making me reconsider. Are the characters really that bland? If I really like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will I like these games? XBC2 is full of anime tropes, but the world and friendship between the characters still won me over.

But do they all work? 😈

I would love to play all of these. I I hope they bring the Vita versions of the early games to Switch!

Why isn't Dragon Quest V on here? It is considered by many to be the best of the series.

I thought I disliked the character models, but seeing them in action in the demo I quickly came to like them. The monster designs are amazing. Music and environments are lively. Unfortunately my backlog of JRPGs is a couple of years long, so I probably won't be buying this for a while.

Dragon Quest III is a marvel of game design, and grinding is at its core. When it feels like a slog to grind the problem is often due to a poor combat system, uninspired character dynamics, setting, pacing, stakes, etc. When combat is actually meaningful and fun you forget you are even grinding.

Getting knee deep into No No Kuni on Switch this weekend! I have wanted to play this for years.

@anoyonmus There's still console exclusivity for mainline Persona games. Sony seems to care less about PC. FFXVI, for example, is announced as a console exclusive PS5 release, but will also come to PC. Persona 5 Strikers is a spin-off, not a mainline game. That being said, I am hoping the exclusivity is a timed thing, and that Persona 4 and 5 will both come to Switch — maybe after 6 is announced for PS5?? Either way I'm pretty excited for Shin Megami Tensei III and V.

It's a Sony exclusivity thing - not a capability issue.

Who are the phantom thieves? Who is Joker? I don't have a PS4 or 5. There is a barrier between me and this Switch game that only a port of the original game can remove. 🙃

You're going to get more than your money's worth if you see it all the way through. Be sure to load it up again after the credits role. You still have a whole third of the game left, and an awesome ending.

Uh, Green Lantern has been a very popular and successful comic series over the last decade, with multiple spin-offs. To say it won't be remembered for much is incorrect.

I still get sad whenever I think of the missed opportunity for an F-Zero X 3D for 3DS...

Still one the best, if not the best, dq games, and very worthy of a place near the top of the list.

I am closing in on the end of the post-game for Dragon Quest XI S — in Japanese! It has been a very rewarding experience advancing in the game and the language at the same time. Next will be 二ノ国 (Ni No Kuni). I am also hoping to squeeze in a little time with the New Horizons update, but I don't know if that will happen.

Trials of Mana 3 and Final Fantasy V but no Dragon Quest V or VI? Hmmmm. Not sure what to thing about this.

I have owned four Nintendo 3DSs. My favorite was a white New Nintendo 3DS. Via a bashed window it was stolen from my car, and the world didn't feel right again until I got a SNES themed New Nintendo 3DS XL to replace it. Thankfully NOA let me transfer my account to it and redownload all of my gamed, because I bought A LOT of digital software for that little console.

I just played it again! It was an excellent game. As I finished it I did wonder if we would see some DLC or a new edition with added content this holiday. We have had so little from Nintendo developers this year. I have been waiting for some solid announcements, but at this point I'm starting to wonder if there will be any big holiday games other than Hyrule Warriors this year. Still waiting to hear from Squeenix too! Unless FFXVI was their only announcement for this year.

Maybe Nintendo of America realized the villain of Mother 3 is Donald Trump.

I kind of want to double dip and buy this, but I also wish it had some more features, such as the option to play with original graphics and font, ability to change side bars, etc. Some of the warmth of the original is lost in this version. I wish Square-Enix did more to preserve and celebrate the heritage of their releases than just mediocre ports of the mobile versions. Collection of Mana was done well, and FFVIII is probably better than the original, but most of their other ports to Switch and PS4 feel like they are missing something. Also, if you're going update things, why not boost that frame rate?? Still, FFIX is an amazing game, and perhaps my favorite Final Fantasy.

I just completed Galaxy 2 for the first time. It is likely just that the Wii remote and nunchuck have really aged, but it felt like a slog, and much less exciting than the first Galaxy game. Hopefully it will be DLC for 3D All-Stars and I can get a better opinion of it. I'm enjoying Galaxy with the Pro Controller quite a bit! To me Galaxy 2 already felt a little like DLC... I don't know if I would rank as the 2nd best 3D Mario Game.

I got the US version. That label isn't impressive no matter where your cart comes from, but the games look amazing!

Nearly through a second playthrough of Super Mario Odyssey, but primarily with the Pro-Controller and on a TV this time (first time through was in handheld mold), and also in Japanese! The Switch is a versatile little system. Odyssey is definitely best on a TV; and playing with the Pro-Controller is a nice nostalgia booster to help get ready for replaying the games in 3D All-Stars collection.

That's great news for Xenoblade! I'm amazed that Breath of the Wild is still selling so strongly. Usually the Zelda games' sales taper off.

I was a backer for this. It took forever to get, thanks to covid, but yeah, it's pretty great, and has a finished, solid feel to it worthy of a Nintendo product. My only complaint is that the HDMI cable runs a little short for some situations. I travel for work. On one (and only one) occasion I had to bring the hotel TV down from its mount to make things work. Otherwise it is well worth it to not have to bring the regular dock!

This good news for everyone — more people will get to play it, and on their preferred platform. They should probably have put in the effort to offer the PS4 version plus the added content though...
Now give us a proper FFXV in return. Don't tell me it can't be done. I've seen the Witcher III on Switch.

Does this mean on my next playthrough I won't have to waste an hour or more trying to get past that damn lightening/wind wall thing? This stuff should have been fixed before the release.

I would love to see them continue the story of X, or maybe somehow merge the worlds of X and Xenoblade Chronicles? As far as a franchise's future goes though it might be best to do something different altogether for Xenoblade 3. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be great.

I remember seeing that one (Samus Returns). It looked amazing.

I played it on 3DS before, and it was great on that, so this will be quite the upgrage. I got my pre-order in for the Definitive Works edition. I wish our version of the collector's set was like your UK one. NOA could have at least included a steel book to go alongside XBC2.

I have a physical copy. The game loads much faster now, though still a little slow!

I ordered the Japan version from yesasia.com. No idea when I will get it... Hopefully soon!

Haven't people been clamoring for this game on Switch for a while now? I know I have. The only way I could be more ready to buy it would be to open a separate account and have the $60 ready to go for a pre-order...

FF IV — for the first time! Playing on SNES. I'm nearing the end. This might be my new favorite Final Fantasy.

I travel for work. I used to carry a 3DS and often a home console too. I'm glad those days are gone. For now it's either on Switch for me or I just won't get to play it.

That game keeps getting better!

I would love to be getting back into Tokyo Mirage Sessions (Loved that game on Wii U. Amazing end game and fantastic party line-up), but I'm still all in with Dragon Quest XI — I'm so grateful to have so many amazing JRPGs on Switch!

That fire emblem song... I watched it so many times.

This was the last game I played on Wii U, and I had a really good time with it. I wish Maiko, Tiki, and Barry were playable, and that it wasn't the censored version, but I will definitely buy this again to have it on a portable system.

Knee deep in DQ XI S, and it just keeps getting better!

Hey! Don't worry. You'll have fun. They're all three worth playing, and this is honestly the best way to play the second one. Just don't be afraid to glance at a walkthrough or look something up if you need help. I'm nearing the end of DQII right now.

For many the frustration is not about wanting to see more skin. The gravure model chapter was altered in a fairly lame way, rendering that part of the story almost nonsensical — also, where the costumes were altered they usually looked uninspired and dull. The game was still great fun though, and I will likely get it again for Switch. I'm sure someone will provide an unofficial patch if Nintendo fails to.

I still don't care for the character sprites, but I was much more forgiving of the monster drawings when I realized they were done directly from Toriyama's original concept art. I'm working through DQII now and having pretty good time.

11 is a for sure purchase (should I play with hard monsters Draconian quest??) but these versions of I, II and III look shoddy. Anyone enjoying them that has tried them out? Should I give them a try? I am only tempted to buy them as a means to redeem myself for illegally playing the roms of the sfc remakes.

I always had a hard time with the combat in Final Fantasy when I was growing up. I hated it... I'm OK with it now, but recently I started playing the DQ games, and surprisingly I really like the combat. It's static, like a series of mini chess games, meaning you can take as long as you want to make your moves, rather than the active-time battles in FF. And the DQ games are designed so that you really feel like you are accomplishing something with your battles. I don't know why that made the difference for me but experiencing DQ combat has helped me enjoy the combat more in other jrpgs. Definitely try out DQ8 on PS2 or 3DS, and or XI on PS4 or Switch. If you're not opposed to emulating the DeJap translation of DQ5 on sfc is excellent. For the early games I find that I actually prefer the NES versions. They're hard! Which makes them more engaging, and increases that sense of accomplishment.

This is cool... But I want the original NES versions too!
