Man, imagine how big this would be if it wasn't the worst kept secret in the history of gaming.
We want Joker for Sma-- oh.
What happened to the name?
Wasn't it P5 Scrambles: phantom strikers?
@Rhaoulos That's the Japanese name. The western name has been shortened to Persona 5: Strikers for awhile.
I bet that someone will bet that someone will beg for the Original Persona 5 on Switch then someone else will beg for Persona 5 Royal for Switch then it somehow starts a worthless argument just like all the other Nintendo Life articles, then an admin will delete every comment relating to the argument, and people get ready to argue in the next article.
Well its about time.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand Persona 4 Golden for Switch
Neat, same week as Bravely Default II! Late February is shaping up nicely I'd say.
This looks great, I played the demo on the JP eShop, it definitely more like an Action RPG, rather than a straight musou game.
Loved P5 and it will be great to continue the saga with these great characters!
Sad about waiting a year, but I want this so badly.
"Jump into the story whether you are a newcomer to the series or a longtime fan!"
This is true? I mean, it's a direct sequel.
It's the M rating my dad won't like
@Venus_Adept
No it’s not. Strikers is deeply rooted in the events of P5/R. No way can a newcomer enjoy its narrative.
Definitely day one on my Switch.
@AnnoyingFrenzy If persona 4 golden came to switch I could finally get rid of my ps vita
I will get this. I have learned the P5 storyline.
Look on the bright side. SMT is coming next year for us, so not having P5 isn't too bad.
Playstation can't play SMT V
Steam will also only get P5S.
I am also guessing there will be some references to the previous game but I don't think it matters.
As I have P5 on PS4 I will have to get this on PS4. My OCD won't let me split this series over multiple platforms unless my hand is forced.
@Rhaoulos I think after the mess that was
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE 's title, we can't blame the publisher to put the actual title of the series in the name, lol
Not every game series can pull off a "Hyrule Warriors"
@NESlover85 If P4G came to Switch you wouldn't hear from me on this site for while.
I finally accepted Persona 5 won't be coming to Switch so I started playing Royal on PS4 this week. It's so good! I'm about 10 hours in- just finished the first palace. I'd have preferred to have it handheld because of how long the game is but oh well.
What a surprise!... Still have no idea why they're bringing this over instead of giving P5/P5R a Switch version first.
Don't really care much.
While it is a sequel, it seems that it might not have references to the previous game.
Looking forward to SMT 3 and V.
@ianl579 pc won't be getting it as well. So we are not completely left out
Here I am just hoping that they managed to lock in the Japanese voice track option. Not that the dub for this is bad, but the original cast for the JPN dub is too good.
Who are the phantom thieves? Who is Joker? I don't have a PS4 or 5. There is a barrier between me and this Switch game that only a port of the original game can remove. 🙃
They could bring Persona 4 to Vita. They made a special version of 3 that ran on PSP, but it's too much to port a game to Switch?
I don't understand.
@doctorhino
It's a Sony exclusivity thing - not a capability issue.
@doctorhino Those games released on PS2, PS3, PSP, PS Vita.
The link is Sony, not computing power.
Edit: crudfish is faster with facts
@crudfish I guess I should have known it would have hit Xbox already if it wasn't locked down.
@crudfish P4G is on PC, so there is no Sony exclusivity.
P5S is essentially a sequel to P5 and its canon and its on switch and PC
@neufel @crudfish @doctorhino Is it actually an exclusivity business deal though? This strikes me as similar to how Monster Hunter was for many years on Nintendo...until suddenly World hits playstation. Spinoffs (like P5S) have gone to other systems, but other than the recent P4G port to PC mainline Persona has stayed on playstation. I suspect it has more to do with tradition than anything. Atlus is weird sometimes. And insular. I had hoped when SEGA bought them they'd be pushed a bit more, but not really so far.
@NoxAeturnus There's no proof on exclusivity, no open deal or anything like that.
It is possible that such a deal exists (and for example the Persona 4 deal expired before coming to PC) or, and I think it's more probable, there's just a strong relationship between Sony and Atlus just like you said.
Either way, if Persona 4 & 5 aren't on Switch right now it's very probably because of the history between Sony and Atlus and not the Switch's power.
@NoxAeturnus technically monster hunter tri was on psp
@NoxAeturnus MH world is on xbox one as well
@neufel Oh yes, totally agreed. Switch should be able to run P5. It's already handling more intense games.
@anoyonmus @doctorhino I did say similar, not exactly the same in all respects. My point was I don't think there's an actual deal keeping Persona on playstation. Just like there wasn't really a deal keeping most of the Monster Hunter games on Nintendo. I mean maybe there is, but I strongly suspect not.
@NoxAeturnus https://nintendosoup.com/persona-5-may-never-come-to-switch-as-the-series-playstation-exclusivity-is-important-to-sony/amp/
Still totally uninterested in playing the second half of a story without being able to play the first part on the same console.
On the bright side, this still hasn't reached the level of nonsense that Square Enix did with their Kingdom Hearts spin-offs, making each one of them exclusive to a completely different console. At least, with Persona 5 if you own a PS4 you can play every P5 game.
@GameOtaku Thanks for the confirmation.
Glad it’s official. Can’t wait for this one. I was more than happy with the performance of Age of Calamity, so I’ll likely grab Persona 5 Strikers on Switch instead of PS4. Either way, it’s a day one buy for sure!
@doctorhino
https://www.google.com/amp/s/gamingbolt.com/sega-hopes-to-release-more-atlus-ports-remasters-and-remakes-across-various-platforms/amp
Newer article that contradicts your older one. Atlus isn’t going to make surveys and tell fans to keep asking for a port if it’s exclusive.
@GameOtaku thx for clearing this up I was about to be a big dum-dum and get this game before I owned a PS4 or a copy of P5/R.
@GameOtaku so you think they need a survey to know it would sell like crazy on xbox and be easy to port?
I find it highly unlikely market research means they don't have a contract. Maybe it would cost x dollars to buy out of it. A lot of contracts are for console and pc still gets a port.
@doctorhino It's impossible to know for sure what is the strategy of Atlus.
It's possible that some people are very skeptical about going multi platform in the company, or that they believe the pool of potential customers is already touched with a single release and having more than one would mean dividing the sales, not multiplying it (for example).
@link3710 I guess I missed that info. It's an odd choice to change the title, but people are afraid of long titles in the West
@anoyonmus There's still console exclusivity for mainline Persona games. Sony seems to care less about PC. FFXVI, for example, is announced as a console exclusive PS5 release, but will also come to PC. Persona 5 Strikers is a spin-off, not a mainline game. That being said, I am hoping the exclusivity is a timed thing, and that Persona 4 and 5 will both come to Switch — maybe after 6 is announced for PS5?? Either way I'm pretty excited for Shin Megami Tensei III and V.
The reason why Persona 5 isn't on XBOX is more the fact the install base in Japan is fairly small, it's honestly shocking how great Persona 5 did overseas anyway (#1 best selling game here the week it came out) over COD etc.
Hard pass for me.
I can tell the difference with the art and graphics compare to the real P5. Not a huge huge change but l can tell this one is down graded a little bit. Gotta make space
@kuzronk And was about to be the game of the year in 2017 but everyone voted LoZ BOTW and that won the game of the year.
@doctorhino
But they wouldn’t ask (like in the last survey) if you’d be interested in ports of certain games (Persona series among other Atlus IPs were also included) if it were not possible. It’d be beyond lunacy to lead consumers along like this if there is absolutely no chance for it to happen.
@crudfish
Everyone seems to forget SMT 3 was PS2 exclusive. So I really don’t get how anyone can still claim SMT is Nintendo exclusive. Just like you can’t claim Persona is Sony exclusive since the port to Steam.
@GigaMermaid We knew it was coming either way. Atlus couldn't have just kept this a Japan exclusive.
@GameOtaku well thats why I said they might be able to buy out of their contract. And sales would need to be pretty high to make it worth it. Just a theory
@HotGoomba___Rebrand BRIE LAR (Comment edited by moderator)
@doctorhino
As far as we know there is no exclusivity contract.
@anoyonmus No it has major references to the first game.
I suggest you play P5 Royal first if you plan to play this
@HotGoomba___Rebrand Well it's kinda like hyping the release of Resident Evil 3 on a console that doesn't have RE1 or RE2.
Sure you could play it as a standalone game but there's ALOT that will not make sense out of context
P5S is canon and sequel. Its less of a spinoff
So I've heard that if you pre order the digital deluxe edition, you get the game 4 days early. Does anyone know if that's going to happen on switch too or is it only for steam?
idk. But the game isn't on the american eshop
@doctorhino the reason Persona 5, was still not released on Switch,is because Persona is a franchise exclusive to Sony consoles(mind,Persona 4 Golden to PC, just like Shin Megami Tensei is exclusive to Nintendo consoles), that why you never see a Shin Megami Tensei game in a Sony/Microsoft console or a Persona game in a Nintendo/Microsoft console.
"The Phantom Thieves are back!"
I don't know them because they aren't on Switch. So I don't plan on getting this game any time soon.
I mean, Hyrule Warriors 2, Inmortals and Doom Eternal just arrived, and they all look awesome. And Bravely Default and Mario 3D World are also coming in February, as well as Monster Hunter Rise in March...
@Giancarlothomaz SMT has been exclusive for Nintendo since IV, before that they came out in Sony platforms.
Strikers sounds much better than Scramble.
@Giancarlothomaz
SMT 3 nocturne was exclusive to PS2 and the remaster is being released on both Sony and Switch. Persona is also not exclusive to Sony for 2 reasons.
1. The P4G port to steam
2. If it was “exclusive” then spinoffs going multiplat would also be an issue.
