Re: Preview: Story of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive Town Is Not Quite As Pioneering As We'd Hoped

Oh no, I was really looking forward this, but hearing about the poor/lifeless character dialogue is the biggest bummer to me. Everything else I don't mind but I have to be able to fall in love ewith the characters to enjoy these kinds of games. Seeing in the other comment that they're working to supplement dialogue text, I wonder if it would improve? Or do characters get more development through story scenes etc? If they felt like they had some depth that way I could maybe put up with canned responses other times. Stardew Valley had that to some extent too.

Huh. I thought I'd be more interested in an open world Pokemon game. Wish they'd try something different with the combat instead of what looks like the exact same turn-based formula as before. And the world looks pretty barren here although since this is a very early glimpse I hope they'll add more interesting elements. My guess is, something I'll check out from the library but won't buy.

@DarkLloyd Once it's unlocked (after a certain event in-game), you have to pay nook miles to unlock each further landscaping ability but they're free to use endlessly after that. You start with dirt paths, each extra path type cost something like 1000-2000 nook miles each I think? And I think water & cliff landscaping were around 8000 each to unlock. Don't quote me on those though.

Re: Nintendo's Fitness Boxing Reaches 500,000 Worldwide Sales

I like this game but I like Ring Fit Adventure so much more. All Fitness Boxing has is a few unlockables, mostly clothes for the trainer, and new routines. But it's always the same featureless background, no story or real goals and not much actual variety. I found it hard to stay motivated to keep doing it. Whereas I'm having a ton of fun with RFA and find myself wanting to play it even when I need to take a day off to rest. Plus I like that RFA has more varied exercises. Fitness Boxing is not bad and I'd say it'd be especially good for someone who wants portable cardio since they don't have to take the big accessories with them. I played Fitness Boxing in tabletop mode a few times fine. But to almost anyone else I'd recommend RFA so much more now.

Re: A Jumbo Demo For Dragon Quest Builders 2 Is Now Available On The Switch eShop

@VR32X Yes, this is a longer one. The previous demo only let you play through to the first time you arrive on the Island of Awakening. This doesn't get through much of the story and doesn't introduce many new building tools. The new demo apparently lets you play through the entire first story island, so about 1/4 of the game. Way way bigger. Many people complained that the first demo stopped before things got interesting so they probably put this one out to entice more people to play.

@jobvd I had minor framerate stuttering a few times during the game but nothing major (didn't impact gameplay or detract from my enjoyment). The more serious framerate issues are when you visit another player's island online if they've packed it to the brim with objects. Even so, most online islands still work reasonably well. There were a few I visited that were really slow. Still recommend the game without hesitation.

Re: Review: Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns - A Worthy Upgrade Of A Solid Match-Three RPG

Never owned the original DS & am tempted. I tried out Gems of War on Switch, with reading this must have been inspired by this game, though I had never heard of this original. Really enjoyed the match 3 + RPG gameplay but quit playing when it reached the point where making progress in a reasonable amount of time was impossible without paying money. A game with similar gameplay for a flat price sounds nice. Don't like the sound of the buggy gameplay people are mentioning though.

The gyro controls look good for handheld mode, but yeah Labo support would also be neat. Though (not having played it) with people saying the VR and non-VR versions are different games with different levels & the non-VR one being longer, it seems less likely there will be Labo support.

Re: Dragon Quest Builders 2 Has Sold 1.1 Million Copies Worldwide

@Mr_Muscle I only played a little of DQB1 and have not played either of the original DQ games they spin off, but from what I played of DQB1, DQB2 is improved in almost every way. In terms of visuals, the detail/things to find/do of places you visit, characters & story, 2 is superior. When I played a bit of 1 it didn't really feel like any of the villager characters mattered. In this game there is a very strong narrative and lots of character bits. (I've heard some people dislike that because they only want to build and don't care about the plot but I loved it.) The plot is not extremely complex but it has a ton of heart and there were still a few moments in the game that totally caught me off guard, and I got very invested in one character in particular.

You also have a much better inventory system and many new building tools. 2 also changed how villager AI works so now they have a whole daily routine and seem to behave more like actual "people" (eating meals, using the bathroom, bathing, engaging in leisure activities and doing their jobs). Plus there are all the online features and multiplayer (though I haven't used the latter).

One possible negative difference I would say is I've heard the boss fights in 1 actually used the building aspect more than 2. The combat is not the series's strong suit and I did feel like especially the final boss was disconnected from the rest of the game. But I was so into the story at that point I didn't really mind. Terrific game overall.

Re: Dragon Quest Builders 2 Has Sold 1.1 Million Copies Worldwide

@spurryitboi Having played through the whole thing, performance is fine throughout story mode. I had a few times it slowed slightly but only for a moment. Bigger issues are in post-game if you either build your island with an incredible amount of detail or visit other player-made islands that do. (See what Ludovsky said above.) But I have visited a lot of player islands and most still perform ok. There have been a small number where the framerate is super low and you can tell why by the level of detail over their entire island (rather than number of buildings it seems to be object density to me). That said you can build/visit some incredibly detailed worlds that don't have issues, as the game gives you post-game options for making/sharing a smaller sized island too. I have visited some islands of this smaller size that were just as detailed as the ones that gave me a ton of issues but performed much better at the smaller size.

Anyway I'm still extremely happy with the game.
